Canvas Rearranges Design Elements when Uploading

If you are a college student and you create a PPT on Mac and you save and then upload itt as an assignment on Canvas, a lot tof tthe design elements get moved around and it makes a mess of the presentaion. pics and texts boxes are no longer where you placed hem, so your design looks bad. What I have to do no is export the presentation to a PDF an dupload that as the assignment, and then email the instructor to tell them that Canvas is wrecking my presentaion so I sent a pdf instead. My college moved from Moodle to Canvas last year and I have had this trouble ever since. When the PPT presentation is saved as a PDF, you lose all the extras you added like voice narration and sound effects, music, notes, etc.

You're getting better but the product still has many frustrating parts. For instance the open folder is now gone on this version and on other versions I use with different customers, it's there and useful. The library of icons and art that you can use is also lacking. Why don't you allow all the types of icons that Visio uses? It would make it usable. Also, the section part is great but it's clumbsy and when you open you always have to collapse. Why can't you select a flag that lets you open collapsed. that would make the tool much more usable. Integration with teams is still terrible and with email if the product is open, you can't send the file. Why? just version it and send. Theres' much more but it's useful but not a product that has the power of things like Lucid, or visio, but it could be much more usable, so you get a three for teasing me with function and ideas, then falling short when I try to use it my way as the main unit. It's keeping this type of work, design and developent documentation, a dark art...who knows maybe AI might help you.

Printing Slides is a Joke

To my knowledge, this is mainly an issue with PowerPoint for Mac as my colleagues who use PCs don't have this issue. When you go to print the slides, they look fine if there are multiple on a page or if you print the notes version, but if you try to print 1 slide per page the images blur when printing! And not just a little fuzzy, they turn out with lines going through them and just look like they never completed loading. This also happens when exporting to a PDF. The PDF looks fine on the screen, and then as soon as you go to print it, a random image will blur out like that. Is it the same image everytime? NOPE! It picks and chooses which image it wants to blur out each time it prints. There is no rhyme or reason to this issue. I exported to PDF, Exported each slide to jpeg, even took screen shots as a last resort and had to just deal with the fact that the color was completely different on the printed screen shot slides. This has been an issue for MONTHS and is all over every forum - the fact that this hasn't been addressed by the MS team is unacceptable! If I'm printing client copies of proposal presentations it shouldn't take me all day due to troubleshooting!

Once you have organized your content and graphics, writing and designing the PowerPoint will be easier. If you’ve got a solid outline, you’ll essentially be transferring it into your slides. Think about the type of speech you’re going to give. Is it informative, persuasive, or to commemorate a special occasion? Most scenarios will either be an informative or a persuasive speech. Although it’s possible you’ll make a speech paying tribute to a person or event, the main function of your speech is likely to provide information or present an argument.

Step 2: Introduce your topic

A strong introduction should show your audience what you’ll be covering and how the presentation will flow

After you create a title slide, your next slide should introduce your subject matter and thesis. Introduction slides provide a basic outline of your chosen topic and how you intend to present supporting information. Keep in mind that you probably have one to two slides to introduce your topic and your main point. Ultius recommends using an informative tone in the introduction. Save any persuasion for the main content or concluding remarks.

Step 3: Main content

Ensure the slides you use doesn’t deviate from the point, and that the presentation really drives home your point

The introduction and conclusion are between the slides that elaborate on your main point.

Try to vary your slides to keep your audience engaged. Use a variety of slides by rotating ones with text only, graphics and text, and charts.

This is where you’ll need to ensure that you’re sticking to your length requirements. Since your introduction and conclusion will consist of one or two slides each, the remaining length visualizes your supporting information. Use your best judgment on when to switch and how many graphics to use because the importance of the information you’re trying to communicate should balance out how you’re communicating. Approach the content as if you’re telling a story and not just reciting facts or opinions.

Step 4: Conclusion

A strong conclusion should contain a summary of the presentation’s key takeaways and a strong closing statement

The conclusion should contain the information contained in your introduction, but it should not be communicated in the same way or verbatim. Leave your audience with a feeling the learned new and important information. They should leave feeling inspired to act or a desire to learn more. Your conclusion should use language that will make an impact. Use a separate slide to list your sources and give credit to other information you used in the presentation. This includes the creators of the graphics and where you found them and any quotes or other information not directly created by you. If you don’t know how to create a citation page or are unsure of what needs to be cited, refer to common style guides to help prevent plagiarism and copyright infringement.

M icrosoft PowerPoint has always been the default choice for creating professional meeting briefs or fun little project demonstrations in schools. Its inclusion as a free service for students or working professionals makes it a no-brainer to use. However, for the general public, it can get quite expensive to pay for a subscription just to be able to create simple presentation slides. Although you can subscribe to Microsoft's Office Suite and get more bang for your buck, the pricing still doesn't hit the affordable range for most. 

Fortunately, completion has been growing, and a sea of strong contenders offer similar services to PowerPoint. After considering feature sets, here are five of the best free alternatives to Microsoft PowerPoint. Zoho Show is completely free to use for individuals and offers unlimited cloud storage. No features are locked behind a paywall, and rest assured, you can fully rely on this online presentation-making tool for all your needs, be it for school or work. 

Canva is a service that can easily climb up to becoming everyone's favorite once they start using it. While most applaud it for its graphic designing prowess, there are many other things Canva can do that you probably aren't aware of . Among them is the ability to craft beautiful slides for your presentations and projects. 

By creating a free account, you can access thousands of templates on Canva. You can filter these by use case—maybe you need one for a professional business briefing or a casual one explaining why your pet dog is the best canine. There is a whole section of ready-to-use templates dedicated to mobile-friendly viewing as well, which is something you don't usually find to be as accessible with other tools. 

Like most presentation apps, Canva lets you collaborate with your team members and work across devices seamlessly. The Canva app for mobile also lets you control your slides remotely during your presentation. Some menus also feature AI-featured tools to add one-click enhancements to your slides -- unfortunately, these are locked behind premium subscription tiers. However, for the cent percent of the population, Canva can be used without spending a dime to meet a plethora of creative needs. 

Apple takes great pride in developing in-house solutions to meet every user requirement. While most of its products dominate the competition in popularity, the same cannot be said for Keynote , the company's version of Microsoft PowerPoint. The program was first released in 2003 with macOS Big Sur and has largely remained one of those icons you glance over and forget about. 

However, recent versions of Keynote have made it a compelling alternative to PowerPoint. Not only is it pre-installed on every Apple device, including your iPhone, but it also works best with the iPad touchscreen. Keynote has a largely clean and professional approach to the built-in templates, but nothing is stopping you from going creative. Animations are one of Keynote's strongest suits, allowing you to create near cinematic-looking presentations with just a few clicks. 

While you can still use Apple Keynote through iCloud on Windows devices, this alternative is clearly meant for people surrounded by the walled garden of Apple technology. It makes use of features like AirDrop, Live Photos, and VoiceOver  — all of which are technologies available across Apple devices. Using Apple Keynote is completely free, and the app has easy exporting tools that make working with Microsoft PowerPoint less of a hassle.

WPS Presentation

WPS Office makes some of the best solutions for creating and editing documents on smartphones , but their service offerings extend to Windows, macOS, and even Linux. WPS Presentation is perhaps the closest you'll get to Microsoft PowerPoint in terms of the user interface and how most tools are bundled in familiar locations.

This PowerPoint app offers real-time collaboration where you can invite your team members and work on the same document remotely. Like most collaboration tools, users can leave comments to suggest changes or add information for other people on the team.

WPS Presentation is not the only free product; you can utilize every app in the WPS Office suite. Unlike most competitors, you don't need to download or use a separate mini-app to make presentations. WPS Office has a document editor, PowerPoint creator, spreadsheet manager, and other tools all within its umbrella. Premium plans for this service exist, but they mostly cater to unlocking features for editing PDFs. 

Google Slides

As a netizen, you most likely already have a Google account. Not only is it required to make any meaningful use of your Android phone, but popular services that we take for granted, like Gmail and Drive, all fall under Google's umbrella. One such free service that the tech giant has at its disposal is Google Slides . While the barebones UI might seem lackluster at first, Slides has nearly the same level of functionality as Microsoft PowerPoint and can even be supercharged by add-ons. 

All of Google's workspace apps, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, provide an intuitive way to work in a team. You can add comments, use annotations, and share the presentation with limited access to others. You can use one of the many predesigned Google Slides templates for simple presentations , or browse for templates that cater to specific needs. Being part of a bigger service catalog has its obvious advantages, such as seamless integration with Google Meet, Gmail, and other products from Google that you already use. 

We recommend Google Slides to anyone who needs to create and edit PowerPoint presentations on the go and can't be bothered with working in a complicated environment. The service is also available as an app for Android and iOS, and you can export your presentations in a wide range of formats, including PPT, PDF, or PNG for individual slides. 

To Pay Or Not To Pay?
