‘ജീവിതത്തില്‍ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകളും കഷ്‌ടപ്പാടുകളും വേണം. എങ്കില്‍ മാത്രമേ വിജയം നേടുമ്പോള്‍ അത് ആസ്വദിക്കാന്‍ പറ്റുകയുള്ളൂ’. ലോകമെമ്പാടുമുള്ള കോടികണക്കിന് ജനങ്ങളെ പ്രചോദിപ്പിച്ച, ഇന്ത്യയെ സ്വപ്നം കാണാൻ പഠിപ്പിച്ച സമാനതകളില്ലാത്ത വ്യക്തിത്വത്തിന് ഉടമയായിരുന്ന നമ്മുടെ മുൻ രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഡോ. എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുൾ കലാമിന്റെ വാക്കുകളാണിത്. ഒരു ജനതയുടെ വികാരമായിരുന്നു ആ മനുഷ്യൻ. രാഷ്ട്രത്തിന്റെ ഉന്നമനത്തിനായി തന്റെ ജീവിതം ഉഴിഞ്ഞുവയ്ക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം.

കാലവും തലമുറകളും മാറികൊണ്ടിരിക്കും പക്ഷേ, കലാം അഗ്നി ചിറകുകളുള്ള പക്ഷിയായി പറന്നു കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കും. രാഷ്ട്രത്തിന്റെ ഉന്നമനത്തിനായി ജീവിതം ഉഴിഞ്ഞു വച്ച ആ പോരാളിയെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ അറിയണം.  ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കരുത്ത് എന്താണെന്നു ചോദിച്ചാൽ അത് നിങ്ങളാണെന്ന് കുട്ടികളോടും യുവാക്കളോടും പറഞ്ഞ, രാമേശ്വരത്തുനിന്ന് രാഷ്ട്രപതിഭവനിലേക്ക് യാത്രനടത്തിയ അബ്ദുൾ കലാമിന്റെ ജീവിതം അറിയണം.

1931 ഒക്ടോബർ 15 ന് തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ രാമേശ്വരമെന്ന തീരദേശത്താണ് അദ്ദേഹം ജനിച്ചത്. ജൈനലാബ്ദീന്റേയും ആയിഷയുടേയും മകന്‍. അഞ്ച് സഹോദരന്മാരും ഒരു സഹോദരിയുമായിരുന്നു കലാമിന്. പിതാവിന് ഒരു ഫെറിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു, മോസ്ക്കിലെ ഇമാമുമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. എങ്കിലും കലാമിന്റെ ബാല്യം ദാരിദ്ര്യപൂർണമായിരുന്നു. കുട്ടിയായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ കുടുംബത്തിനായി പത്രവിതരണം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു കലാം. സ്ക്കൂൾ പഠന കാലത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം അത്ര മികച്ച വിദ്യാർഥിയൊന്നുമായിരുന്നില്ല, പക്ഷേ നല്ല കഠിനാധ്വാനിയും ബുദ്ധിമാനുമായിരുന്നു കുഞ്ഞു കലാം. പഠിക്കണമെന്ന അദമ്യമായ ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു കലാമിന്. മണിക്കൂറുകളാണ് കലാം പഠിക്കാനായി ചിലവഴിച്ചിരുന്നത്.

സ്കൂൾ കോളജ് പഠനശേഷം ഒരു ഫൈറ്റർ പൈലറ്റ് ആകണമെന്ന ആഗ്രഹം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് സാധിക്കാനായില്ല, എങ്കിലെന്താ, ഇന്ത്യയുടെ 'മിസൈൽ മാൻ' എന്ന എന്ന പേരിനോളം വരില്ല മറ്റൊരു പദവിയും. കലാം പോരാടി കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു, സ്വപ്നങ്ങൾ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഫിസിക്സും എയ്റോ സ്പേയ്സ് എൻജിനിയറിങ് പഠിച്ചതും പിന്നീട് ഐഎസ്ആർഒ യുടെ തലപ്പത്തെത്തുന്നതും. ഇന്ത്യ തദ്ദേശീയമായി വികസിപ്പിച്ച സാറ്റലൈറ്റ് ലോഞ്ച് വെഹിക്കിളിന്റേയും, ബാലിസ്റ്റിക് മിസൈലിന്റേയും വികസനത്തിനും ഏകോപനത്തിനും കലാം  വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകളാണ് നൽകിയത്. പിന്നീട് ഇന്ത്യയുെട ആണവ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾക്കു നേതൃത്വം നൽകി ഈ മഹാപ്രതിഭ. 2002 ജൂലൈ 19ന് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ 11–ാം രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി അബ്ദുൾ കലാം തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 2007 ജൂലൈ 27 ന് കാലാവധി കഴിയുമ്പോൾ ഇന്ത്യ കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും ജനപ്രിയനായ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയെന്ന ഖ്യാതിയും അബ്ദുൾ കലാം നേടി.

രാഷ്ട്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാവിയെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യക്തമായ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്. 2020–തോടെ ഇന്ത്യയെ ഒരു വികസിത രാഷ്ട്രമാക്കി മാറ്റാനുള്ള മാർഗ്ഗങ്ങളും ദർശനങ്ങളും തന്റെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളിലൂടെ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ കരുത്തിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഓർമപ്പെടുത്തി കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. കൃത്യമായ ലക്ഷ്യം നിശ്ചയിച്ച് ആ ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രയാണം ചെയ്യുകയെന്നതായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രീതി. രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ എത്തി വിദ്യാലയങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിച്ച് അവിടത്തെ വിദ്യാർഥികളുമായി സംവദിക്കുക എന്നത് കലാം ഏറെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. 2015 ജൂലൈ 27 ന്  ഷില്ലോങിലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്മെന്റിൽ പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്നതിനടെ കുഴഞ്ഞു വീണ കലാം പിന്നീട് കണ്ണ് തുറന്നില്ല. രാജ്യം കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ധൈഷണികശാലികളിലൊരാൾ തന്റെ അഗ്നിചിറകുകൾ വിടർത്തി പറന്നു പോയി.

‘ഉറങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ കാണുന്നതല്ല സ്വപ്‌നം; ഉറങ്ങാന്‍ അനുവദിക്കാത്തതാണ് സ്വപ്നം’ എന്ന കലാമിന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ മക്കളോടു പറയണം. പത്രം വിറ്റും കക്ക പെറുക്കിയും പഠിക്കാൻ പണം കണ്ടെത്തി ലോകത്തിന്റെ ആദരം നേടിയ ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജീവിതം മക്കളെ ഓർമിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കണം.

എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുൽ കലാം ജീവചരിത്രം (APJ  Abdul Kalam )

1931 ഒക്ടോബർ 15-ന് തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിലെ രാമേശ്വരത്താണ് അബ്ദുൽ കലാം ജനിച്ചത്. ബാല്യകാലത്ത് പത്രവിതരണക്കാരനായി ജോലിചെയ്ത് ഇന്ത്യൻ പ്രസിഡന്റ് വരെയായ ഒരു ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് ഡോ.എ.പി.ജെ.അബ്ദുൽ കലാം. സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസക്കാലം മുതൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വായനാശീലമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. രാമേശ്വരത്തായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം. തുടർന്ന് ഷ്യർട്സ് സ്കൂളിൽ സെക്കന്ററി വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി ട്രിച്ചിയിലെ സെന്റ് ജോസഫ് കോളേജിൽ ചേർന്നു. അവിടെനിന്നും ഇന്റർമീഡിയറ്റ് കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഊർജ്ജതന്ത്രത്തിൽ ബിരുദവും നേടി. ചെന്നൈ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് ടെക്നോളജിയിൽ നിന്നും എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് ബിരുദമെടുത്തു. തുടർന്ന് ബാംഗ്ലൂരിലെ ഹിന്ദുസ്ഥാൻ എയ്റോനോട്ടിക്സ് ലിമിറ്റഡിൽ പരിശീലനം നേടിയശേഷം പ്രഗത്ഭനായ ഒരു എയ്റോനോട്ടിക്കൽ എൻജിനീയറായി. തുടർന്ന് DRDO-ൽ മുതിർന്ന സൈന്റിഫിക്‌ അസിസ്റ്റന്റായി ജോലി ലഭിച്ചു. എയർക്രാഫ്റ്റ് & ആർമെമന്റ് ടെസ്റ്റിങ് യൂണിറ്റിൽ പരിശീലനം നേടി, എയ്റോനോട്ടിക്കൽ ഡെവലപ്മെന്റ് എസ്റ്റാബ്ലിഷ്‌മെന്റിൽ നിയമിതനായി. 1964-ൽ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തുള്ള ഐ.എസ്.ആർ.ഒ യിൽ ചേർന്നു. നമ്മുടെ രാജ്യത്തിൻറെ റോക്കറ്റ് പര്യവേഷണത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം വലിയ പങ്കുവഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫൈബർ ഗ്ലാസുകൾ കൊണ്ട് റോക്കറ്റ് മോട്ടോറുകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നതിന് വളരെയധികം വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകി. S.L.V പ്രോജക്റ്റ് ഡയറക്ടറായി 1973-ൽ നിയമിതനായി. അഗ്നി, പൃഥ്വി എന്നീ ഇന്ത്യൻ നിർമ്മിത മിസൈലുകളുടെ ശില്പി, ശേഷം ഡിഫൻസ് റിസേർച്ച് ആൻഡ് ഡെവലപ്‌മെന്റ് ഓർഗനൈസേഷന്റെ (DRDO) ഡയറക്ടർ, തുടർന്ന് സമഗ്ര മിസൈൽ പദ്ധതിയുടെ മേധാവി, രാജ്യരക്ഷാമന്ത്രിയുടെ ശാസ്ത്രകാര്യ ഉപദേഷ്ടാവ്. രാജ്യത്തിന് നൽകിയ സമഗ്ര സംഭാവന മാനിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് രാഷ്ട്രം പത്മഭൂഷൺ, പത്മവിഭൂഷൺ, ഭാരതരത്ന, ആര്യഭട്ട അവാർഡ് എന്നിവ നൽകി. 1997-ലാണ് ഭാരതര്തനം ലഭിച്ചത്.

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മിസൈൽ വികസന പദ്ധതിയുടെ പിതാവ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഡോ.എ.പി.ജെ അബ്ദുൽ കലാം 2002-ൽ പതിനൊന്നാമത്തെ ഇന്ത്യൻ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി. തന്റെ എതിർ സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥിയായിരുന്ന കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ ലക്ഷ്മിയെയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. 2002-2007 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. രാഷ്‌ട്രപതി പദവിയിലെത്തിയ ലോകത്തെ ആദ്യത്തെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ കൂടിയാണ് അബ്ദുൽ കലാം. ജനകീയ പ്രസിഡന്റ് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് അബ്ദുൽ കലാമാണ്. അമേരിക്കയിൽ നൽകപ്പെടുന്ന ഹൂവർ അവാർഡ് നേടിയ ആദ്യ ഏഷ്യക്കാരനാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. 

2008 മുതൽ 2015 വരെ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ വലിയമലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് സ്പേസ് സയൻസ് ആൻറ് ടെക്നോളജിയിയുടെ ചാൻസലർ ആയിരുന്നു എ.പി.ജെ.അബ്ദുൽ കലാം. 2015 ജൂലൈ 27-ാം തീയതി മേഘാലയയിൽ ഷില്ലോങ്ങിലെ ഐ.ഐ.എം-യിൽ പ്രസംഗിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നതിനിടയിൽ കുഴഞ്ഞു വീഴുകയും മരണം സംഭവിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അഗ്നിച്ചിറകുകൾ അദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആത്മകഥയാണ്.

ഡോ. എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുള്‍ കലാം. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മുന്‍ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയും ബഹിരാകാശ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനുമായിരുന്ന പ്രതിഭ. അവസാനശ്വാസംവരെ തന്റെ കര്‍മ മണ്ഡലത്തില്‍ സജീവമായിരുന്ന വ്യക്തിത്വം. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ തൊണ്ണൂറ്റിയൊന്നാം ജന്മവാര്‍ഷികദിനമാണ് ഒക്ടോബര്‍ പതിനഞ്ച്. ഇന്ത്യാമഹാരാജ്യം എക്കാലത്തേക്കുമായി സുവര്‍ണലിപികളാല്‍ കൊത്തിയിട്ട ആ പേരിനുപിറകിലെ അധ്വാനം എന്നത് കലാം പറയുന്നതുപോലെ സ്വപ്‌നവും കഠിനാധ്വാനവും തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. സ്വപ്‌നത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ലക്ഷ്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും കലാം ഇനിയുള്ള തലമുറയ്ക്കായി പറഞ്ഞുവെച്ച വാചകങ്ങള്‍ വായിക്കാം.

സ്വപ്നം കാണാന്‍ പഠിപ്പിച്ച കലാം...

കുരുന്നുകളെ സ്വപ്നം കാണാന്‍ പഠിപ്പിച്ച ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞന്‍. ഇന്ത്യ കണ്ട എക്കാലത്തെയും എളിമയുള്ള ദീര്‍ഘവീക്ഷണമുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രപതി. അങ്ങനെ വിശേഷണങ്ങള്‍ അനവധിയാണ് എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുൽ കലാം എന്ന പ്രതിഭാ സമ്പന്നന്. 

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാമത് രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായിരുന്നു(2002-2007) 'അവുൽ പകീർ ജൈനുലബ്ദീൻ അബ്ദുൽ കലാം' എന്ന 'ഡോ. എ.പി.ജെ. അബ്ദുൽ കലാം' (1931 ഒക്ടോബർ 15 – 2015 ജൂലൈ 27). പ്രശസ്തനായ മിസൈൽ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാവിദഗ്ദ്ധനും എഞ്ചിനീയറുമായിരുന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം.

ഇന്ത്യ തദ്ദേശീയമായി വികസിപ്പിച്ച സാറ്റലൈറ്റ് ലോഞ്ച് വെഹിക്കിളിന്റേയും, ബാലിസ്റ്റിക് മിസൈലിന്റേയും വികസനത്തിനും ഏകോപനത്തിനും മറ്റും അബ്ദുൾകലാം വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മിസ്സൈൽ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംഭാവനകൾ കണക്കിലെടുത്ത് 'ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മിസ്സൈൽ മനുഷ്യൻ' എന്ന് കലാമിനെ വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. പൊക്രാൻ അണ്വായുധ പരീക്ഷണത്തിനു പിന്നിൽ സാങ്കേതികമായും, ഭരണപരമായും കലാം സുപ്രധാന പങ്ക് വഹിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

ഇന്ത്യന്‍ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി....  

2002-ൽ അന്നത്തെ ഭരണകക്ഷിയായിരുന്ന ഭാരതീയ ജനതാ പാർട്ടി-യുടെയും പ്രധാന പ്രതിപക്ഷകക്ഷിയായിരുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷണൽ കോൺഗ്രസ്സ് (ഐ)-യുടെയും പിന്തുണയോടെ ഇദ്ദേഹം രാഷ്ട്രപതിസ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു.തന്റെ ജനകീയനയങ്ങളാൽ, "ജനങ്ങളുടെ രാഷ്ട്രപതി" എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രശസ്തനായ അദ്ദേഹം 2007 ജൂലൈ 25-നു സ്ഥാനമൊഴിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടമേഖലകളായ അദ്ധ്യാപനം, എഴുത്ത്, പ്രഭാഷണം, പൊതുജനസേവനം തുടങ്ങിയവയിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചു.

ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്മെന്റ് അഹമ്മദാബാദ്, ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്മെന്റ് ഇൻഡോർ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ധ്യാപകനും, തിരുവനന്തപുരം ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് സ്പേസ് സയൻസ് & ടെക്നോളജിയുടെ വൈസ് ചാൻസലറുമായിരുന്നു.

അഗ്നി ചിറകുകളിലേറി...

2020 ൽ ഇന്ത്യയെ ഒരു വികസിതരാഷ്ട്രമാക്കി മാറ്റാനുള്ള മാർഗ്ഗങ്ങളും ദർശനങ്ങളും ഇന്ത്യ 2020 എന്ന തന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു.അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യാവിദഗ്ദ്ധൻ മാത്രമായിരുന്നില്ല രാഷ്ട്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാവിയെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യക്തമായ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുള്ള രാഷ്ട്രതന്ത്രജ്ഞൻ കൂടിയായിരുന്നു.

വിവിധ വിദ്യാലയങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിച്ച് അവിടത്തെ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുമായി സംവദിക്കുക എന്നത് കലാമിന് ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള കാര്യമായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രസംഗങ്ങൾ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് വളരെയധികം പ്രചോദനം നൽകുന്നവയാണ്. 

ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന സ്മരണകളില്‍ കലാം...

[email protected] എന്ന തന്റെ ഇ-മെയിലിൽ എല്ലായ്പ്പോഴും സജീവമായിരുന്നുകൊണ്ട് അദ്ദേഹം ആളുകളുമായി, പ്രത്യോകിച്ച് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുമായി, നിരന്തരം സംവദിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. അഴിമതി വിരുദ്ധ ഇന്ത്യ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുവാനായി യുവജനങ്ങളെ ബോധവൽക്കരിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒരു ദൗത്യവും അദ്ദേഹം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു നടത്തുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2015 ജൂലൈ 27 ന് 84-ാം വയസ്സിൽ അദ്ദേഹം അന്തരിച്ചു. ഷില്ലോങ്ങിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്‌മെന്റിൽ പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്നതിനിടെ ഉണ്ടായ ഹൃദയാഘാതത്തെത്തുടർന്ന് കുഴഞ്ഞുവീഴുകയായിരുന്നു. ഉടനെ അടുത്തുള്ള ബഥനി ആസ്പത്രിയിൽ എത്തിച്ചെങ്കിലും രക്ഷിക്കാനായില്ല.

1960-ൽ ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം കലാം, ഡയറക്ടറേറ്റ് ഓഫ് ടെക്നിക്കൽ ഡെവലപ്പ്മെന്റ് ആന്റ് പ്രൊഡക്ഷൻ (എയർ) എന്ന സ്ഥാപനത്തിൽ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായി ജോലിക്കു ചേർന്നു.ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പ്രതിരോധ മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ളതായിരുന്നു ഈ സ്ഥാപനം. പ്രതിരോധ മേഖലയ്ക്കായി സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയും ഉപകരണങ്ങളും വികസിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു കേന്ദ്രമായിരുന്നു ഇത്. ഇന്ത്യൻ സൈന്യത്തിനു വേണ്ടി ഒരു സൂപ്പർസോണിക്ക് ടാർജറ്റ് എയർക്രാഫ്റ്റ് നിർമ്മിക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ഒരു ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ എന്ന നിലയിൽ കലാമിന്റെ ആദ്യ ദൗത്യം . ഈ ഉദ്യോഗത്തിൽ കലാം പൂർണ്ണ സംതൃപ്തനല്ലായിരുന്നു.

ജലത്തിലും കരയിലും ഒരുപോലെ സഞ്ചരിക്കാനാകുന്ന ഹോവർക്രാഫ്ടിന്റെ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യ വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു കലാമിനെ ഏല്പിച്ച അടുത്ത ദൗത്യം. ദിവസവും പതിനെട്ടു മണിക്കൂർ ജോലിചെയ്ത് മിഷൻ 'നന്ദി' അദ്ദേഹം പൂർത്തിയാക്കി.

പ്രതിരോധമന്ത്രിയായ [[വി.കെ. കൃഷ്ണമേനോൻ]നന്ദി യെ കാണാൻ വന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നന്ദിയിൽ പറക്കണമെന്ന ആഗ്രഹം തോന്നി. മാത്രമല്ല കലാം തന്നെ അത് പറപ്പിക്കണമെന്നും മന്ത്രിക്ക് നിർബന്ധമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കലാം മന്ത്രിയേയും കൊണ്ട് സുരക്ഷിതമായി പറന്ന് തിരിച്ചെത്തി. സാങ്കേതികമായി നന്ദി വിജയിച്ചെങ്കിലും സാമ്പത്തിക കാരണങ്ങളാൽ പദ്ധതി നിർത്തിവെച്ചു. തന്നെ ഒരുപാട് വേദനിപ്പിച്ച സംഭവങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി കലാം ഇത് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാമത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രപതി...

കെ.ആർ.നാരായണനുശേഷം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാമത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായിട്ടാണ് കലാം രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യയുടെ മുൻനിര രാഷ്ട്രീയകക്ഷികളായ ഇന്ത്യൻ നാഷണൽ കോൺഗ്രസ്സും ഭാരതീയ ജനതാ പാർട്ടിയും ഒരേ പോലെ പിന്തുണച്ച ഒരു സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥിയായിരുന്നു അബ്ദുൾ കലാം. തന്റെ എതിർ സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥിയായിരുന്ന ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ ലക്ഷ്മിയേക്കാൾ 815548 വോട്ട് അധികം നേടിയാണ് കലാം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാമത് രാഷ്ട്രപതിയാവുന്നത്. 

10 ജൂൺ 2002-ൽ അന്നത്തെ ഭരണകക്ഷിയായിരുന്ന ഭാരതീയ ജനതാ പാർട്ടിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള ദേശീയ ജനാധിപത്യ സഖ്യം പ്രതിപക്ഷപാർട്ടിയായിരുന്ന കോൺഗ്രസ്സിനോട് തങ്ങൾ രാഷ്‌ട്രപതി സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് അബ്ദുൾ കലാമിനെ പിന്തുണയ്ക്കാൻ പോകുന്ന കാര്യം ഔദ്യോഗികമായി അറിയിച്ചു. സമാജ് വാദി പാർട്ടി കൂടി കലാമിനുള്ള പിന്തുണ അറിയിച്ചതോടെ ഒരു രണ്ടാംവട്ടം സാധ്യത കൂടി കല്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കെ.ആർ. നാരായണൻ താൻ ഇനി രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി മത്സരിക്കാനില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞ് കലാമിനുള്ള വഴി സുഗമമാക്കി.

ജൂലൈ പതിനെട്ടിനായിരുന്നു വോട്ടെണ്ണൽ. കലാം ഏകപക്ഷീയമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അബ്ദുൾ കലാം ഇന്ത്യയുടെ പതിനൊന്നാമത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയായി മാറി. ഭാരതരത്ന പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിക്കുന്ന മൂന്നാമത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രപതി എന്ന ബഹുമതി കൂടി അബ്ദുൾ കലാമിനുണ്ട്. ഡോക്ടർ.എസ്.രാധാകൃഷ്ണനും ഡോക്ടർ.സക്കീർ ഹുസ്സൈനുമായിരുന്നു കലാമിനു മുമ്പ് ഈ ബഹുമതിക്ക് അർഹരായവർ.ശേഷം പ്രണബ് മുഖർജിക്കും ഭാരതരത്ന ലഭിച്ചു.

ലാളിത്യം മുഖമുന്ദ്ര...

രാഷ്ട്രപതി സ്ഥാനത്തെത്തുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞൻ കൂടിയായിരുന്നു കലാം. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലും വളരെ ലാളിത്യം നിറഞ്ഞ ജീവിതമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം പിന്തുടർന്നു പോന്നത്. രാഷ്ട്രപതിക്ക് നിയമം മൂലം അനുവദിച്ചുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്ന പല സൗജന്യ സഹായങ്ങളും സ്വീകരിക്കുവാൻ കലാം തയ്യാറായിരുന്നില്ല.

പാദരക്ഷകൾ പോലും സ്വയം അണിയുകയും അഴിച്ചുമാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഇത്തരം കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാൻ രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിൽ ജോലിക്കാർ ഉള്ളപ്പോളായിരുന്നു ഇത്.ഭാരതത്തിന്റെ ഭാവിതലമുറയെ വാർത്തെടുക്കേണ്ട കുട്ടികളുമായി നിരന്തരമായി സംവദിക്കാനും, സല്ലപിക്കുവാനും കലാം സമയം കണ്ടെത്തിയിരുന്നു. കുട്ടികൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ചാച്ചാ കലാം എന്നു വിളിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.

രാഷ്ട്രപതി സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് ഒരു രണ്ടാമൂഴത്തിനു കൂടി കലാം തയ്യാറാണെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രപതി കാലാവധി അവസാനിക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് ചില മാധ്യമങ്ങൾ റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.എന്നാൽ താൻ ഇനിയും രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലേക്കില്ലെന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ഈ പ്രസ്താവനയെ കലാം തന്നെ പിൻവലിച്ചു. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലേക്ക് രണ്ടാംവട്ടം എത്തുന്ന കാര്യം പറയുമ്പോൾ, കലാമിന് മുൻനിര രാഷ്ട്രീയപാർട്ടികളിൽ നിന്നും വേണ്ടത്ര പിന്തുണ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ലായിരുന്നു.

കലാമിന്റെ പിൻഗാമി, പ്രതിഭാ പാട്ടീലിന്റെ ഭരണകാലഘട്ടം അവസാനിക്കാറായ സമയത്ത്, കലാമിന്റെ പേർ വീണ്ടും സജീവമായി ഉയർന്നു വന്നു. കലാം രാഷ്ട്രപതിയാവാൻ വീണ്ടും തയ്യാറാണെങ്കിൽ പിന്തുണ നൽകാൻ തയ്യാറാണെന്ന് ചില രാഷ്ട്രീയപാർട്ടികൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ അറിയിച്ചുവെങ്കിലും, ഊഹാപോഹങ്ങൾക്ക് വിരാമമിട്ടുകൊണ്ട് താനിനിയും രാഷ്ട്രപതി സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് മത്സരിക്കാനില്ലെന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് കലാം തന്നെ രംഗത്തെത്തി.

അംഗീകാരങ്ങൾ...

മുപ്പതോളം സർ‌വ്വകലാശാലകളിൽ നിന്നും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഓണററി ഡോക്ടറേറ്റ് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മാത്രമല്ല ഭാരത സർക്കാർ രാജ്യത്തെ പരമോന്നത സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതികൾ നൽകിയും ഡോ. കലാമിനെ ആദരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. 1981ൽ പദ്മഭൂഷൺ, 1990ൽ പദ്മവിഭൂഷൺ,1997ൽ ഭാരത രത്നം  എന്നീ ബഹുമതികളാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്.

വിഷൻ ഇന്ത്യ-2020

2020 ൽ ഇന്ത്യയെ ഒരു വികസിത രാഷ്ട്രമാക്കാനുള്ള ഒരു പദ്ധതി കലാം സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടിരുന്നു. വിഷൻ-2020 എന്ന തന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തിലൂടെ ഈ ചിന്തകൾ അദ്ദേഹം ഭാരതത്തിലെ ജനങ്ങളുമായി പങ്കുവെക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

അതുപോലെ ആണവായുധ രംഗത്ത് ഇന്ത്യ കൈവരിച്ച നേട്ടം ഭാവിയുടെ വൻശക്തി എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലേക്ക് ഇന്ത്യയെ കൂടുതൽ അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം ഉറപ്പിച്ചു.

സൗരോർജ്ജ പദ്ധതികൾ

സൗരോർജ്ജത്തിന്റെ അളവറ്റ ശക്തിയെക്കുറിച്ച് കലാം ഏറെ ബോധവാനായിരുന്നു. സൗരോർജ്ജത്തെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ബഹിരാകാശത്തുള്ള ഊർജ്ജപ്ലാന്റുകൾ എന്ന ആശയത്തെ ശക്തമായി പിന്തുണക്കുന്ന ഒരാൾ കൂടിയായിരുന്നു കലാം. 2012ൽ കലാമിന്റെ ചൈനാ സന്ദർശനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, ഇരുരാജ്യങ്ങളും ഒത്തു ചേർന്ന് ഒരു സൗരോർജ്ജം കൊണ്ട് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഉപഗ്രഹം നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പദ്ധതി ആരംഭിച്ചിരുന്നു.

സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ

ശാസ്ത്രസാങ്കേതികരംഗത്തെ മറ്റ് മേഖലകളിലും അതീവ താല്പര്യം പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അബ്ദുൽ കലാം സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്വെയറിനെ പിന്താങ്ങുകയും വൻതോതിലുള്ള സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയറിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം കൂടുതൽ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് വിവരസാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യ കൊണ്ടുള്ള പ്രയോജനം ലഭിക്കാൻ കാരണമാകും എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

പ്രഭാഷകൻ, അധ്യാപകൻ

പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെ ശാസ്ത്രഉപദേഷ്ടാവ് എന്ന സ്ഥാനത്തു നിന്നും രാജിവെച്ചതിനു ശേഷം കലാം ഏതാണ്ട് ഒരു ലക്ഷത്തോളം വരുന്ന സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുമായി സംവദിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.അവരുടെ സൗഹൃദം എനിക്കിഷ്ടമാണ്. നാളെയുടെ ഇന്ത്യയെക്കുറിച്ച് അവർക്കുള്ള സ്വപ്നങ്ങളെ ഉത്തേജിപ്പിച്ച് അവരെ അത് നേടിയെടുക്കാൻ പ്രാപ്തരാക്കണം. ഇത് എന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യത്തിലൊന്നാണ്. ഇത്തരം സംവാദങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് കലാമിന്റെ അഭിപ്രായമിതാണ്.

രാഷ്ട്രപതി കാലയളവിലും, അതിനു ശേഷവും നിരവധി ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹം വിസിറ്റിംഗ് പ്രൊഫസർ ആയിരുന്നു. രാഷ്ട്രപതി സ്ഥാനത്തു നിന്നും വിരമിച്ചശേഷം തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തുള്ള ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് സ്പേസ് സയൻസ് ആന്റ് ടെക്നോളജി എന്ന സ്ഥാപനത്തിന്റെ ചാൻസലർ ആയി കലാം സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചുവരികയായിരുന്നു.

2005 ജൂലൈ 28-ന് കലാം കേരള നിയമസഭ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരുന്നു. കേരള വികസനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യക്തവും യുക്തിഭദ്രവുമായ 10 പദ്ധതികളുടെ 52 മിനിറ്റ് നീണ്ട പ്രഖ്യാപനം ഇദ്ദേഹം നടത്തി. ഇരു രാഷ്ട്രീയമുന്നണികളും സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്ത ഈ പദ്ധതികൾ പത്ര മാധ്യമങ്ങൾ ഏറെ പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

എഴുത്തുകാരൻ

നിരവധി കൃതികൾ അബ്ദുൾ കലാം രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മലയാളം അടക്കം വിവിധ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭാഷകളിലേക്ക് ഇവ പരിഭാഷ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. അബ്ദുൾ കലാം രചിച്ച പുസ്തകങ്ങൾക്ക് ദക്ഷിണ കൊറിയയിൽ ധാരാളം വായനക്കാരുണ്ട്.. അഗ്നിച്ചിറകുകൾ ആണ് കലാമിന്റെ ആത്മകഥ.

കലാം സ്‌മാരകം

അബ്‌ദുൽ കലാമിനെ കബറടക്കം നടത്തിയ തങ്കച്ചിമഠം പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ പേക്കരിമ്പിലെ ഒന്നരയേക്കർ ഭൂമിയിൽ സ്‌മാരകം നിർമ്മിക്കാനുള്ള പ്രാഥമിക നടപടികൾ ആരംഭിച്ചു. മധുര–രാമേശ്വരം ദേശീയപാതയിൽ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ, പാമ്പൻപാലം കടന്ന് 10 കിലോമീറ്ററിനുള്ളിലാണ് കലാം അന്ത്യവിശ്രമം കൊള്ളുന്ന ഭൂമി. കലാം ഡെൽഹിയിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന രാജാജി നഗറിലെ വീട് കുട്ടികളുടെ മ്യൂസിയമാക്കണമെന്ന നിർദ്ദേശം മുന്നോട്ടുവന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. കലാം അന്ത്യവിശ്രമംകൊള്ളുന്ന ഭൂമി ഒറ്റ രാത്രികൊണ്ടാണ് ജില്ലാഭരണകൂടം ഏറ്റെടുത്തത്. ബസ് ഡിപ്പോയ്‌ക്കായി പഞ്ചായത്ത് കണ്ടുവച്ചിരുന്ന സ്‌ഥലമായിരുന്നു അത്.

His father, Jainulabdeen, was a boatman and his mother, Ashiamma, looked after her five sons and one daughter. Although money was a scarce commodity in the household, APJ Abdul Kalam’s parents ensured that their children received a proper education. Kalam’s father had a lasting impact on his young mind and taught him the value of hard work and discipline. His mother also instilled values like honesty and dedication in all her children. Abdul Kalam started supporting his family at a very young age. He was only ten when he began working as a paperboy for his elder cousin and paying his tuition fees. These experiences shaped APJ Abdul Kalam to be the great man that he was.

APJ Abdul Kalam did not let his humble beginnings come his way. In one of his books, he says that he did not have the brightest mind, but he made up for it with his hard work and dedication. Kalam’s teachers ignited his passion for knowledge, and after finishing school, he got admitted to the prestigious Madras Institute of Technology. It was also the leadership and guidance of Abdul Kalam that made the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear testing a success. People’s President

APJ Abdul Kalam was also elected as the President of India from the year 2002 to 2007. During his tenure as the President, he brought about several reforms and policies that helped bring down corruption and create new opportunities for India’s citizens.
