She Played ‘Lisa E.’ for Two and a Half Years

lisa edelstein biography

“Lisa Edelstein, a nice girl from a New Jersey suburb, is explaining how she got to be Lisa E., New York’s reigning Queen of the Night, Girl of the Moment, new Edie Sedgwick and top ‘celebutante’ of 1986. ‘Being a celebutante means you’re famous for not really doing anything,’ the 20-year-old says. ‘You just try to get to know as many people as you can, so that you know everybody.’” — Maureen Dowd , “Lisa in Wonderland,” New York Times , 1986

I met James St. James in an elevator at the dorm at NYU in 1984, when I was a freshman, and I fell in love with him immediately. James and I were really on a mission to take ourselves from obscurity to having a presence in the world. He’d scour Details magazine cover to cover, memorizing who everybody was. Our first task was just getting into AREA. There were huge crowds outside, so we would just dress fabulously. Why were we picked out of the crowd? I can’t tell you, but we were. James had this whole thing where we’d go into a club, and we’d go in the opposite direction in a really crowded room, and we’d each ask if anybody had seen the other one. Nobody knew who we were — but we’d pretend they did know us, so we’d say, “Oh, did you see James? Did you see James?” And then we’d get to the other side of the room and we’d go around together and we’d be like, “Oh my God! Found him!” “I found her!” So that was his way of getting everybody to know our names. It was a very intentional experience. I was like a whirling dervish. Like, I didn’t know who anybody was. Really. All I remember is being shoved in this direction or that in very tight dresses and being super-enthusiastic. Boy George would be there or Madonna would be there or whoever.

Cover Story

A century of the new york ‘it’ girl.

  • 151 New York ‘It’ Girls
  • What Was (and Is) the ‘It’ Girl?

I had terrible clothes. I was still wearing stuff that I wore to synagogue when I was 15. I hit puberty on the club scene. I was an A-cup when I started and then I was a double D. All of a sudden, I had these big boobs and this big butt, and so I had three tight dresses that I wore over and over and over again.

Little by little, Patrick McMullan started taking my picture and putting it in the paper. Then we got on shorter and shorter lists in terms of the events that were happening, and we were used as a way to describe a party — like, we were on a list as part of a descriptive explanation of what happened that night. We were in the social columns. I didn’t even know NYU knew anything about it until The New York Times Magazine profile came out about me and the dean called me to his office to discuss my future.

After it came out, because my phone number and my address were in the phone book, I had about 40 men stalking me and jerking off on my tape-recording answering machine. So I’d be trying to get my messages, and I’d have to wait for somebody to come to just get to the next message. And, you know, I’m young. I had men just waiting for me in front of my apartment. I had men trying to marry me. All of it was very disgusting. And I didn’t have anybody to talk to about that stuff because I don’t come from a showbiz family. I just sort of held it in and got really depressed. The people in the club scene were really resentful, and I can understand why. I hadn’t earned the attention in their minds. They hadn’t seen me do anything. And I was in a community of people who were doing a lot of things, really interesting people. And a lot of really interesting people who were dying of AIDS, left and right. And what happened from the resentment was that people started making up stories about me. So I realized that with celebrity, you lose power over your own reputation. I learned that celebrity was not my goal. I learned that it was actually a place of less power in some situations. I also realized that the character “Lisa E.” that I had been playing for two and a half years, at that point — I needed to graduate from her. So I actually stopped going out. I mean I went out occasionally. Those were all the people I knew in the world. But I would take jobs where I would work in bars where I knew nobody went. I just wanted to retreat. I was always compared to Edie Sedgwick. And I was like, ‘But Edie didn’t make it.’ She had a very sad ending. And that’s what I mean! I think that ultimately that’s what it’s for — it’s not for happy endings.

An actress with a long history of activism, Lisa Edelstein organized her first protest at age sixteen as a cheerleader for Donald Trump’s New Jersey Generals, outraged that the cheerleaders were forced to flirt in bars. Edelstein studied theater at New York University and wrote, composed, and starred in the musical Positive Me, based on her experiences as a hospital volunteer for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis during the 1980s. After popular guest appearances on ER in 1997, Frasier in 1998, West Wing in 1999, and Ally McBeal in 2000, as well as film roles in 1997’s As Good as It Gets and 2000’s What Women Want , Edelstein landed the role of dean of medicine on the hit show House, which she played   from 2004 to 2011. She has since continued to play guest roles, most notably on The Good Wife in 2011, on Elementary in 2012, and on Scandal in 2013. She also played the lead role in Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce from 2014 to 2018; during this time, she won the Women’s Image Network Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series in 2015 and 2016. She also had recurring roles on Legend of Korra in 2013, The Good Doctor in 2018, The Kominsky Method from 2018 to 2021, and 9-1-1: Lone Star from 2021 to 2022. She is an ambassador of the Best Friends Animal Society and supporter of PETA, among other causes.

Biography by AllMovie

Upon her election by The New York Times as a "top celebutante" in 1986 (due to her popularity in N.Y.C.'s club scene), then-19-year-old Lisa Edelstein reportedly grew wary of "fame for fame's sake" and spent years grounding her celebrity in a series of well-respected, if minor, acting assignments. She made a small-scale debut in a prestigious film -- the role of the makeup artist in Oliver Stone's controversial Jim Morrison biopic The Doors (1991) -- and thereafter was often pigeonholed in sitcom appearances, typically as a comically eccentric girlfriend or wife. This typecasting characterized Edelstein's appearances on Seinfeld, Mad About You, Sports Night, Frasier, and a myriad of other programs. There were exceptions, though, as the actress also starred on the short-lived but critically acclaimed drama Relativity in the mid-'90s as Rhonda Roth, a lesbian whose complex, non-sensationalized portrayal marked a step forward for homosexual characters on network TV. Edelstein also garnered recurring roles on such series as The West Wing (playing a law student whom Rob Lowe's character romances until he finds out she moonlights as a call girl), Felicity, and Ally McBeal (appearing as a transsexual who dates a lawyer played by James LeGros).

Edelstein would score her biggest break to date with a lead role on the hit medical drama House in 2004. She would stick with the hugely successful show until 2011, in addition to roles on other shows throughout the 2000's, like American Dad!, The Good Wife, House of Lies and Castle.

TV star Lisa Edelstein captures her Jewish family in a solo painting exhibit

lisa edelstein biography

( JTA ) — Like many of us left without plans during the initial COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Lisa Edelstein spent some of her time rummaging through old family photographs. But instead of just basking in the nostalgia, she was also on the lookout for her next painting project.

Since then, the actress, known for her often Jewish roles on several hit TV shows — from “House” to “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” to “The West Wing” to “The Kominsky Method” — has been producing paintings that recreate old photos of her Jewish family. She is showing them at her first solo art exhibition, titled “Family,” at the SFA Advisory art gallery in downtown Manhattan through Jan. 25.

“I don’t think there is any way around my Jewishness being a part of what I do or make, whether or not I intend to make it a part of it,” says Edelstein. “Almost every role I get turns Jewish if it lasts long enough. I don’t think of myself as so obviously a Jew, but my name definitely gives it away and I don’t mind.”

Her Jewish identity comes through in her paintings, too. Like the photos they are modeled after, they capture family members in candid moments, often at group events. There are works of men in yarmulkes kissing family members on the cheek at a celebration, of a woman mid-phone call, of kids and adults stuffing their faces at a pizza parlor.

“What I’m looking for are those images that tell a more honest story, a caught moment, an odd angle, an awkward pose,” Edelstein said. “We don’t have images like that anymore, the world is too camera savvy and our phones are so high tech that we can just delete things that tell stories we’d like to forget or filter them into something else. Back when we took pictures on film, each photo took time, effort, and money to produce, so even if we hated it, we tended to keep it, at least in a box somewhere. Those are the ones I’m looking for.”

Edelstein, 56, grew up in Wayne, New Jersey, in a Conservative Jewish household observing all the holidays and Shabbat.

“Though I was raised with a healthy Jewish identity, it wasn’t without embarrassment and apologetics,” she said. It didn’t help that the local head of the school board, who later became mayor, published an article in a local paper telling people not to vote for the Jews for the school board because they would cancel Christmas.

“The way people talk about Jewish women in particular, with for example the word JAP [ a derogatory term used to describe young Jewish women], is really disgusting. On some level, I think there was a feeling that I needed to dissociate myself with that identity in order to not be that thing that people associated with that identity,” she said.

She did consider changing her name when she moved to Los Angeles in 1991, thinking it could help her career. But she said it would have taken away from any feeling of true success. It was letting Hitler win, she said.

She has since dealt with antisemitism in her career, from being lumped into a non-specific “ethnic” category at the start of her career, to not getting a job because they already had a Jewish actor — and two Jews were considered one Jew too many.

A few years ago, Edelstein posted an old photo of herself with her mother and two siblings on Instagram for her mother’s birthday, and it happened to be in front of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. She got death threats in public comments, which she deleted, on the post.

“And lately, just painting a yarmulke feels like a radical move, never mind painting an El Al logo or even just Jewish faces. It’s suddenly daring to just be publicly Jewish,” she said.

But she wasn’t afraid to put Jewish-themed art on display. She was more nervous about the entire project in the first place.

“Actresses are a breed that people love and they also love to hate, so you just don’t know what the public response is going to be. But I felt very supported within the art community, at least the one I’m in,” she said.

“Kids,” by Lisa Edelstein. (Courtesy of SFA Advisory)

Edelstein enjoyed drawing as a child and teen, but she didn’t continue with it after high school. It wasn’t until pandemic lockdown that she returned seriously to the art form. It started with buying adult coloring books to fill the time, but she didn’t like the images in them and decided to make her own. Her husband, Robert Russell, an artist himself, pushed her to do more, and the images got larger and larger, until she went from magic marker to watercolor.

Russell always encouraged her to make things — when they first started dating, he asked her to make him a drawing about a week into their relationship. Always a fan of using photography as a starting point for her work, she gave him a drawing of herself at four years old sitting on the beach holding a crab. (He had given her a painting of two doves on their second date.)

“Dessert,” by Lisa Edelstein. (Courtesy of SFA Advisory)

“Suddenly I realized I actually did have permission to do this stuff, not because he gave it to me, but because I always had,” Edelstein said.

She will continue to act, write and direct, but she wants to continue in her new career, too. Edelstein is toying with the idea of adding drawings to a Passover haggadah that she wrote for her family and updates every year. If she published the haggadah for public consumption, the drawings could turn the seder book into a coloring book of sorts for small children.

“I have a lot of energy, so I’m up for whatever,” she said. “And I think it’s important to view all of these things as one. They’re just different ways my body pushes out ideas. Each one feeds the other.”

Lowest Rated: 16% Say Uncle (2005)

Birthday: May 21, 1966

Birthplace: Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Brassy and beautiful actress Lisa Edelstein had been catching the eye of television audiences for the better part of the last two decades with brave and funny performances in a variety of network series ranging from "Seinfeld" (NBC, 1990-98) and "The West Wing" (NBC, 1999-2006), to her breakout role of tough hospital administrator Dr. Lisa Cuddy on the Fox medical drama, "House" (2004-12). Born in Boston, MA on May 21, 1966, Edelstein made a splash in New York in the '80s as a celebrated member of the city's nightlife scene (so much so that the New York press dubbed her a "top celebutante" in 1986). At the same time, Edelstein was also pursuing a degree in theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and used her training to co-write and produce one of the first AIDS-related musical productions, "Positive Me," which made its debut at La Mama in 1989. The following year, television viewers got their first look at Edelstein when she co-hosted MTV's ill-fated attempt at a morning program, "Awake on the Wild Side" (1990). The program lasted less than a year, and Edelstein quickly graduated to small roles in films like "The Doors" (1991) and "Love Affair" (1994). Her first attention-grabbing role was Karen, the risotto-loving girlfriend to George Costanza (Jason Alexander) in two 1993 episodes of "Seinfeld;" the turn (which continued to garner Edelstein praise through the years) was followed by nine episodes on the forgettable CBS comedy "Almost Perfect" (1995-96), which thankfully introduced her to TV producer, Thomas Schlamme, with whom she would work on several subsequent shows. A memorable turn as a lesbian on Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick's short-lived cult series "Relativity" (ABC, 1996-97) came later, as did an appearance as a documentarian on the 1997 live episode of "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009). Edelstein also branched out into voice-over work for the video game adaptation of "Blade Runner" (1997) and the highly regarded "Superman: The Animated Series" (WB, 1996-2000), for which she voiced Mercy Graves, henchwoman to Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown); Edelstein returned to the character for "The Superman/Batman Movie" in 1998, and several episodes of "Justice League" (Cartoon Network, 2001-06). Edelstein logged numerous episodic appearances for the next few years, as well as a few supporting roles in features like "As Good As It Gets" (1997) and "30 Days" (1999), before reuniting with Schlamme for writer Aaron Sorkin's criminally underrated comedy series, "Sports Night" (ABC, 1998-2000), in which Edelstein appeared twice as Bobbi Bernstein, a sports anchor with a perceived grudge against series regular Josh Charles. The collaboration scored again with Sorkin and Schlamme's next program, "The West Wing," in which she enjoyed several appearances as Rob Lowe's romantic interest, a law student who also moonlights as an escort. In 2000, Edelstein took on another challenging role, that of James LeGros' transsexual girlfriend on "Ally McBeal" (Fox, 1997-2002). The following year, Edelstein earned the wrath of "Felicity" (WB, 1998-2002) fans by playing Lauren, who lures away and becomes pregnant by Felicity's love interest, Scott Speedman's Ben. More episodic appearances followed, including that of James Spader's love interest on "The Practice" (ABC, 1997-2004), as well as features like "Daddy Day Care" (2003), before Edelstein landed on "House." The role of Cuddy was ostensibly that of foil to Hugh Laurie's eccentric and brilliant Dr. House, but Edelstein's particular knack with comedy granted the character a sharp wit of her own that gave their sparring a witty sparkle. And the show's creators wisely added a wrinkle to her character - that Cuddy wishes to have a baby so thus, seeks a sperm donor - which allowed for some likable romantic tension between these two ostensible foes. After "House" came to an end, Edelstein kept busy with short guest-star arcs on television series ranging from courtroom drama "The Good Wife" (CBS 2009-16) and romantic mystery-drama "Castle" (ABC 2009-16) to Seth MacFarlane's satiric cartoon "American Dad" (Fox 2005-14; TBS, 2014- ) and scabrous media satire "House of Lies" (Showtime 2012-16). Her next major TV role came as the star of the cable comedy-drama "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" (Bravo 2014- ), playing self-help author Abby McCarthy, whose divorce puts her life into an unexpected tailspin.

Quick Facts of Lisa Edelstein

I'm obsessed with broccoli, carrots, celery, string beans, snap peas, black kale, brussels sprouts, cabbage - I could go on! They used to call me 'rabbit' when I was a kid. I hate mushrooms, though. I apologize to fungi lovers, but this way, there's more for you!
I do think that people get really emotionally involved in the TV shows that they love and I think that is fantastic. Of course they are going to have opinions. The other thing is that people project onto their television shows. They see a character and layer on many traits that are actually their own or their idea of what that character is.
You can't do things unexpected in life if you're not willing to take a risk, and it's easier to risk your own life than it is for your parent to watch you take risks. It's very, very hard for parents to see children doing things that aren't a solid path. I've been through that.

Lisa Edelstein

Lisa Edelstein is headed to Canada to star in a homegrown indigenous drama, Little Bird , for local streamer Crave.

Edelstein, best known for playing Dr. Lisa Cuddy on House and more recently starring in Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce , will play Golda Rosenblum, the adoptive mother of the Little Bird series’ main character, Esther Rosenblum, played by newcomer Darla Contois.

As a powerful Jewish matriarch in Montreal, Golda eventually discovers the truth behind Esther’s adoption, that as 5-year-old Bezhig Little Bird she was forcibly taken from her birth-family on the Long Pine Reserve in Saskatchewan by the Canadian government. That journey leads to emotionally charged encounters between adoptive mother and daughter, where Golda slowly understands Esther, now in her 20s, longs for the family she lost and is led back to the Canadian prairies to rediscover her indigenous roots.

The six-part series is created and showrun by Jennifer Podemski, has Hannah Moscovitch as head writer and also stars Ellyn Jade, Joshua Odjick, Michelle Thrush and Blackstone star Eric Schweig. The drama is being shot in and around Winnipeg, with episodes directed by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers and Zoe Hopkins, who also writes three of the episodes.

Little Bird also comes in the wake of a national reckoning in Canada about historical residential schools for native Canadians run by the Catholic Church until the 1990s and funded by the Canadian state. That debate only grew after the discovery of unmarked graves for indigenous children across the country forced to attend the former residential schools after being removed from their families to erase their indigenous roots.

Crave is producing Little Bird in association with Rezolution Pictures, APTN and OP Little Bird, and Fremantle will handle international distribution. The producer credits are shared by Tanya Brunel, Jessica Dunn, Philippe Chabot and Ellen Rutter.

The series is executive produced by Ernest Webb, Catherine Bainbridge, Christina Fon, Linda Ludwick, Kim Todd, Nicholas Hirst, Jeremy Podeswa, Podemski, Moscovitch, Christian Vesper and Dante Di Loreto.

Biography [ ]

Early life [ ].

Edelstein was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Bonnie and Alvin Edelstein. Her father is a pediatrician at Chilton Memorial Hospital (since retired). The youngest of three children in a Jewish family, she was raised in Wayne, New Jersey, and attended Wayne Valley High School, graduating in 1984.

At 16, Edelstein was a cheerleader for the New Jersey Generals. Edelstein participated in a protest of poor working conditions. She said she felt they were treated "like hookers" and helped organize a cheerleader walkout.

She moved to New York City at the age of 18 to study theatre at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While living in New York, she became involved in the club scene (known there only as "Lisa E") and caused enough of a stir in the community to be dubbed New York City's "Queen of the Night" by writer and fellow celebutant James St. James, who briefly refers to Edelstein in his 1999 book  Disco Bloodbath .

After being dubbed a "celebutante" by  The New York Times  magazine during her club kid days, Edelstein used her new-found celebrity to write, compose and star in an original musical called  Positive Me  in response to the growing AIDS crisis of the 1980s. The play, performed at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York City, received many accolades. After an unsuccessful stint hosting  Awake on the Wild Side  for MTV in 1990, she appeared as a backstage make-up artist in Oliver Stone's Jim Morrison biography  The Doors , followed by guest roles on several popular comedies, including  Mad About You ,  Wings , and  The Larry Sanders Show . On  Sports Night , she played a sports reporter who claimed to be a former lover of Josh Charles' character whom he did not remember. On  Seinfeld , she played George Costanza's sexually frustrated girlfriend in the episode "The Masseuse",

Edelstein picketed during the 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike, which halted the production of  House .

Bigger roles in TV dramas soon followed, among them the lesbian sister on ABC's  Relativity  (1996); a high-priced call girl turned Rob Lowe's date on  The West Wing  (1999); an assigned male at birth (AMAB) transwoman on  Ally McBeal  (2000); and Ben Covington's (Scott Speedman) girlfriend on  Felicity  (2001). She also continued to land guest-star spots on such shows as  ER ,  Frasier ,  Just Shoot Me! ,  Without a Trace , and  Judging Amy , as well as small parts in the films  What Women Want ,  Keeping the Faith ,  As Good as It Gets , and  Daddy Day Care .

From 2004 to 2011, she portrayed her biggest and most notable role to date, Dr. Lisa Cuddy, the Dean of Medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital and frequent adversary, friend, and eventual girlfriend of title character Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) on Fox's TV series  House . Edelstein has often spoken fondly of her experiences on the show and fellow cast and crew, especially her friendship and strong working relationship with Laurie.

In May 2011, Edelstein announced that she would not return for the eighth and final season of  House . Starting in June 2011, she began an arc on  The Good Wife  as lawyer Celeste Serrano. She guest-starred in  Scandal  in 2013, and later three episodes of the ABC series  Castle .

She also starred as the lead role of Abby McCarthy in the Bravo series  Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce , an hour-long comedy-drama loosely based on the book series by Vicki Iovine and which premiered on December 2, 2014. In 2018, Edelstein joined the cast of ABC's  The Good Doctor  in season two as Dr. Blaize in a recurring role. This reunited her with  House  creator David Shore. Edelstein also plays a recurring character in  The Kominsky Method , a Netflix series that debuted in November 2018.

She has lent her voice to several animated programs, including  King of the Hill ,  American Dad! ,  Superman: The Animated Series  (as Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor's bodyguard, a role she later reprised in several episodes of  Justice League ),  Legend of Korra  (as Kya, Tenzin's sister) and the video game adaptation of  Blade Runner .

House Drops All 8 Seasons On New Streaming Platform

House is 1 of many shows impossible to revive after all these years, 10 best house episodes, ranked.

  • Cuddy left House MD after season 7 due to a violent end to her relationship with House, which resulted in a breakup and House driving his car through her dining room.
  • Lisa Edelstein chose to leave the show for career reasons and because she felt it was the best thing for her professionally.
  • Edelstein has had a successful career post- House MD , with recurring roles in several TV shows and upcoming projects in the works. A revival of House MD is unlikely, especially with Hugh Laurie's reluctance to return to the role.

Cuddy left House before the final season aired and didn't even return for the finale, and while it was shocking for viewers at the time, Lisa Edelstein has been open about why she left the show. Apart from Hugh Laurie's Dr. Gregory House, the genius Head of Diagnostic Medicine at a hospital in New Jersey, House MD featured a great supporting cast, including Lisa Edelstein's Dr. Lisa Cuddy. The Dean of Medicine at the hospital and Gregory House's boss throughout the show, Cuddy acknowledged the genius of her underling, but was regularly exasperated by House's frequent rule-breaking, lack of stricter, and disregard for even basic manners.

In spite of this, the pair formed a strong attraction, and fans shipped the couple as "Huddy," though it would be a long path to their inevitable romance, which came with obstacles like Cuddy being engaged to someone else and House moving on from his painkiller addiction. Their happily-ever-after never came though, so why did Cuddy leave House MD ? After the events of House MD season 7 , Cuddy and Lisa Edelstein left the show for good — and the narrative included a brutal breakup with House. The series came to an end in 2012 after House MD season 8, and while revival is always possible, bringing Cuddy back will be even trickier.

House has dropped all 8 seasons of the show on a new streaming platform, allowing its subscribers to watch the classic Hugh Laurie medical drama.

Why Cuddy Left House MD After Season 7

Lisa edelstein chose to leave the cast of house.

In the House MD , Cuddy moved away from New Jersey due to the violent end of her relationship with Gregory House . During House MD season 7 episode "Bombshells," Cuddy undergoes tests to find if she has cancer. It's revealed she has a benign tumor, but when she realizes House resorted to taking pain medication in order to support her, she breaks up with him. Naturally, House took the breakup poorly, and in the finale, drove his car through her dining room. Cuddy didn't die on House MD , but House MD season 8's opening episode reveals how Gregory went to jail for this violent act, and Cuddy resigned from her position and moved on.

In a way, it was entirely predictable a "Huddy" romance was doomed to failure, but Cuddy's abrupt departure from House MD season 8 felt like a glaring omission. The character didn't return for the finale either, despite pretty much every other major cast member making a cameo. This was partly down to Lisa Edelstein being busy on other projects, but the actress departed the show under less-than-ideal circumstances.

Lisa Edelstein left House MD to move onto the next stages of her career — and behind the scenes, a convenient opportunity to exit the show presented itself. Most of the actors' contracts ended with House MD season 7, and the network wanted to cut down on costs by bringing them back with pay cuts. Lisa Edelstein refused and decided to leave the show instead. This is likely another reason why Cuddy didn't return for the final episode (unlike fellow House MD departee Jennifer Morrison ). Edelstein has since revealed (via Digital Spy ) she has no regrets about not appearing, feeling that House ramming his car into Cuddy's dining room would be a very logical endpoint for their relationship.

The medical drama television series House ran for eight seasons before ending on May 21, 2012. Unfortunately, the show will likely never get revived.

What Lisa Edelstein Did After Cuddy Left House

The house md actress has had several prominent roles after playing cuddy.

Cuddy's House MD performance earned Lisa Edelstein the People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Drama Actress and the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film, which afforded the actor plenty of career opportunities following her exit. This includes recurring roles in The Good Wife, Castle, The Good Doctor, Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, and the critically acclaimed comedic drama The Kominsky Method.

Outside live-action series and a handful of films, Edelstein also provided the voices of several cartoon characters in shows like King of the Hill, American Dad , and most notably The Legend of Korra, in which Edelstein played Kya, one of Avatar Aang and Katara's children . Lisa Edelstein is currently slated to star in several upcoming projects, such as the miniseries Little Bird and several short film appearances .

Will House Ever Return To TV?

There are currently no plans for a house revival.

As with many popular medical series, House MD had (and continues to have) a loyal following. While many would be pleased to see the show rebooted, however, it seems very unlikely to happen, primarily because of star Hugh Laurie. While House was a huge role for his career, it was also far from his first incredibly successful venture, and Laurie is probably looking to move forward rather than backward.

This is especially true given that House MD apparently took a heavy toll on him. Laurie has said that " the repetition of any routine, day after month after year, can turn into a bit of a nightmare. I had some pretty bleak times. " (via Hello! Magazine ). With comments like these, it's hard to see Hugh Laurie returning to his role on House MD for a revival.

The House M.D. series wrapped over a decade ago, but the show is still one of the best medical dramas around, these are the best episodes.

What Lisa Edelstein Thought Of Her Final House Episode

The cuddy actress felt it may have been too extreme.

It was a shock for viewers when Cuddy left because she was so important to Greg House's story. However, Lisa Edelstein left House because she felt the time had come, and it was the best thing for her professionally. Edelstein had started to get a lot of calls after her role on House MD , and she said it felt like her career was finally starting to take off (via TV Line ) . She then chose to leave the show, turning in her resignation and allowing the writers to figure out the best way to write Cuddy out of the show. Her first job after leaving was a small role on The Good Wife .

"It was very sad and very disappointing and a really difficult decision to make. But ultimately I felt like it was the best thing for me to do for myself and for my business."

While she didn't feel the need to return to the finale because Cuddy's story with House had ended, she did have strong feelings about her last appearance on the show. Edelstein said that it was clear fans were " up in arms " and thought House was really trying to kill Cuddy. She called it homicidal, although she said it wasn't meant to be in the script since they had left the room. " In order to affect any kind of change for a character like that you have to go to extreme places, [but] maybe it was too extreme for the audience. It’s just not that kind of show, " Edelstein said about her final House MD episode.
