Meanwhile, the customization options allow you to tailor the slides to your desired aesthetic, content type, and audience, and you can create your presentation in 80 languages. The resulting slide decks are elegant, professional, and appropriate for any use case.

Plus AI is an affordable presentation maker, with pricing that starts at $10 per month with annual billing, or $15 when billed monthly. Each of the plans includes an AI extension for Google Docs; this feature helps you compose and edit text. If you’d rather not spend money without taking the tool for a test drive, Plus AI offers you a 7-day free trial.

Here are the key pros and cons of Plus AI — they should help you decide if this presentation maker is right for you:

Canva is a web-based template editor with graphics creation tools and a powerful presentation builder in its free plan. Canva offers you an array of slide templates designed for virtually any purpose, along with a suite of customization tools to tailor the presentation to your topic and setting.

Canva has made a noticeable effort to optimize presentations for the smartphone. The app’s most striking feature is its selection of mobile presentation templates, which don’t lag their desktop-based peers in either aesthetics or utility. But whether or not your presentation is designed for a mobile screen, Canva lets you run it right from your smartphone, with a presenter view that shows your notes and upcoming slides. The audience can likewise engage with your presentation from their mobile devices during Q&A sessions.

Depending on your use case, you may be able to get away with Canva’s comprehensive free plan. The free Canva has presentation creation and editing tools and gives you access to a huge selection of professional templates. However, it’s the $14/month Pro plan that lets you unlock all the premium tools and graphic assets. And if you need Canva to collaborate with teams, you’re looking at $29.99 per month for the first 5 users.

To help you decide whether Canva is worth trying out, we’ve made this quick summary of the app’s pros and cons:

  • Solid free plan with basic features and a large selection of graphic assets
  • Optimized for mobile presentations
  • Elegant templates for any use case
  • Intermediate design skills required
  • No direct integration with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 (possible through third-party apps)

3. Prezi — Best slide tool for creative users

best presentation web site

  • Web-based tool for creating presentations, videos, and infographics
  • Asset library includes templates, ready-to-use story blocks, and stock images from Unsplash and GIFs from
  • Integrates with Webex, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other video conferencing apps to show presentations and the presenter on the same screen

Pricing (all plans are billed annually)

  • For students/educators: $3-8 per month
  • For individuals: $7-19 per month
  • For businesses: $15-29 per month

Prezi is a web-based tool for creating presentations, videos, and infographics that are suitable for business and educational settings. The tool offers a wealth of image and icon assets, as well as templates to get you started on your slide deck. The templates do not constrain your creativity with linear slides the way PowerPoint does — you can create your presentations on an open canvas. Prezi even lets you import and customize PowerPoint presentations in its app. And, with the help of Prezi’s new AI tool, you can create and edit entire presentations quickly.

One of Prezi’s most defining features is its integration with popular video conferencing apps, such as Webex, Zoom, Teams, and Meet. Crucially, Prezi lets your slides appear on the same screen as your own video feed while you’re presenting.

Prezi offers three pricing tiers. Students and educators get the least expensive options, with plans that range between $3 and $8 per month. For individual users, plans cost $7-19 per month, while business users pay between $15 and $29 per month. All of Prezi’s plans are billed annually, but you can try the tool for 14 days without committing to a subscription.

If you’re not sure whether this presentation tool is right for you, consider Prezi’s pros and cons below:

  • Design freedom and for creating unique and attractive slides
  • Graphic assets are readily available
  • Integrates with video conferencing apps
  • AI assistant generates and edits presentations
  • Inexpensive plans for students and educators
  • Video and infographic creation part of each plan
  • 14-day free trial
  • Design skills required to create quality presentations
  • Lack of integration with Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • No monthly billing options

4. Visme — Best for graphics and special effects

best presentation web site

  • Tools for creating special effects and animating graphics
  • Ability to import and edit Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
  • AI designer helps create a presentation draft
  • Integration with Google Drive, DropBox, Mailchimp, Slack, and other apps
  • Presentation analytics tools
  • Basic package: $0/month
  • Starter package (individual): $12.25/month
  • Pro package (individual or team): $24.75-$79+/month

Visme is a web-based app for producing various types of visual content, including presentations. The app’s most distinct feature is its suite of special effects you can use to make the slides’ content and graphics more engaging. The app also lets you animate the images and insert video and audio features into the slides.

Visme integrates with a whole host of other platforms and apps. These integration options are largely designed to let you import content seamlessly into Visme. For example, you have the option of importing your PowerPoint files into Visme, enhancing them there, and exporting them back in the .ppt format if you like. That said, Visme does not work as an extension in popular slide makers, like Google Slides or PowerPoint.

You have three main pricing options with Visme. The Basic plan is free, but you’re limited in access to collaboration tools, assets, interactive, and AI features. The more comprehensive Starter plan costs $12.25 per month (billed annually), and equips you with Visme’s more premium tools. Finally, the Pro team plan sets you back $79/month for a team of 5 and lets you use Visme’s entire suite of interactivity and collaboration functions.

Here are a few vital pros and cons if you need help deciding whether Visme is right for you:

  • Vast selection of special effects
  • Ability to animate graphics on the slides
  • Simple file movement between different web-based apps
  • Free plan available
  • Free plans extremely limiting
  • No direct integration with Google or Microsoft slide tools

5. Powtoon — Best for slides with animation

best presentation web site

  • Templates with configurable graphics and animation
  • Customizable fonts, colors, and logos
  • Access to stock images, videos, and soundtracks
  • Lite plan: $50/month ($15/month when billed annually)
  • Professional plan: $190/month ($40/month when billed annually)
  • Agency: $117/month (annual billing only)

Powtoon is a visual web-based content creation platform with tools for making videos, animations, and presentations. The app’s presentation function lets you build slides using professional templates, in which you’re free to customize the fonts, colors, logos, and graphics. You can even animate the graphics and build custom avatars to present on your behalf — it’s one of Powtoon’s unique selling features.

Powtoon’s suite of slide tools includes a database of royalty-free stock images, video footage, and music. You can use all of these assets in your slides, or upload your own as you see fit. However, how much of these shiny tools you can use in your slide decks depends on the chosen plan.

There are three pricing plans available, and the discrepancy between monthly and annual payments is striking. Most presentation sites charge a few dollars more if you opt for monthly instead of annual billing, but Powtoon’s monthly prices easily triple and quadruple. For example, the Lite plan costs $15/month with annual billing, but $50 if you wish to pay every month instead. You get very basic features with this plan, especially as far as animation and interactivity are concerned. Likewise, the Professional plan jumps from $40 to $190 if you choose monthly payments. You get a bit more for your buck, but some rudimentary features are still absent (like font uploads). Meanwhile, the Agency plan costs a whopping $1400 annually (no monthly option), and this plan gets you all of the app’s bells and whistles.

Not sure if investing in a product like Powtoon is worth it? Consider its pros and cons below:

  • Comprehensive animation and video creation features
  • Graphic and audio assets available with subscription
  • Fonts and logos can be uploaded
  • Most customization, animation, and AI features only come with the expensive Agency package
  • Monthly payment options are not reasonable

6. Haiku Deck — Best site for image editing options

best presentation web site

  • Minimalistic interface
  • Graphic design tools for improving slide aesthetics
  • Pre-loaded templates and image assets
  • Cloud-based file sharing for team collaboration
  • AI presentation builder (Haiku Deck Zuru)
  • Pro plan: $9.99 per month billed annually, or $19.99 monthly
  • Premium plan: $29.99 per month, billed annually

Haiku Deck is a web, desktop, and mobile-based presentation builder with a significant focus on design aesthetics. The app’s design tools allow you to refine the graphics in the preloaded templates and images you’re using in the slides. You can source the images right from Haiku’s repository, which boasts over 40 million assets.

To help you create your slide decks, Haiku offers its AI assistant. The AI feature can create new presentations from your outline, or enhance your existing drafts. Since the AI learns from other Haiku users, its algorithms are now trained to outfit slides with contextually relevant imagery and graphics.

Haiku Deck’s pricing has two tiers: Pro and Premium. The Pro plan costs $9.99/month when billed annually and affords full access to the slide creation tools. Meanwhile, the Premium plan will set you back $29.99/month (again, billed annually), and equips you with features such as analytics, live web tracking, and priority support.

Here’s a summary of Haiku Deck’s most prominent pros and cons:

  • Visually appealing slides
  • Large database of graphic assets
  • Advanced tools for editing images
  • Capable AI-powered slide builder
  • No free plan
  • No integration with Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint

7. Zoho Show — Best presentation site for budget-minded users

best presentation web site

  • Clean interface with tools changing depending on the task
  • Library for templates, slides, and fonts to facilitate team collaboration
  • Over 100 templates
  • Imports/exports PowerPoint files
  • Presentations can be controlled from smartphone or smart watch
  • For individuals: Free
  • Professional Plan: $2.50/month and up (billed annually)
  • With Zoho Workplace Standard: $3.00/month (billed annually)

Zoho is a web-based suite of business tools, and Zoho Show is its slide creation app. Zoho Show is a straightforward, inexpensive, yet fully functional slide maker that offers most of the same features you’ll get from pricier presentation sites. You can build your decks using over 100 preloaded templates, work on PowerPoint presentations before exporting them to their original file format, and run your slideshow from a smart device. Show’s most unique feature is its clean, contextual interface that only displays tools that are relevant to your current task (whether that’s handy or limiting depends on your preferences).

Zoho Show’s pricing has three tiers. First, there’s the Free plan. This package lets you build basic presentations, but you miss out on key collaboration features and have limited access to graphic assets. Next, you get the more comprehensive Professional Plan, which costs $2.50; you must sign up for Zoho WorkDrive and have a team of 3 people to get this plan. Finally, you can get the entire Zoho Workplace suite for $3/month — this option unlocks the full functionality of the Show app and lets you use other Zoho tools, such as their Office Suite, Mail, and Workdrive.

Have a look at Zoho Show’s pros and cons below to see if this presentation website is right for you:

  • Interface automatically shows tools relevant to the task
  • Ability to add custom fonts and embed files into slides
  • Templates, graphic assets, and collaboration tools included
  • Supports PowerPoint file formats
  • Subscription to Zoho Workdrive or Workplace required to access paid plan — unnecessary if all you need is a presentation tool
  • Some plans require a minimum of 3 users
  • Free individual plan limits use of graphic assets, templates, and collaboration tools
  • No direct integration with Google Slides

8. Pitch — Best presentation site for use in business and sales

best presentation web site

  • Lets you build presentations with AI, from a template, or from scratch
  • Supports custom fonts and colors
  • Provides team collaboration tools
  • Allows you to embed presentations on the web
  • Offers engagement analytics tools
  • Pro plan: $25/month
  • Business: $100/month

Pitch is a web-based presentation maker designed primarily for business use. The app helps streamline slide deck creation with its AI tool, which generates a first draft based on your prompts and leaves your team with the task of refining the slides to your liking. The slides have shareable links, so your entire team can collaborate on the slide deck. You can even invite consultants from outside your workplace to edit the presentations.

Once your slide deck is complete, Pitch allows you to embed it on the web in your CMS — much like you’d do with a YouTube video. And to give you a feel for how audiences engage with your presentation, Pitch equips you with engagement and analytics performance tools.

There are three pricing options with Pitch. The free plan comes with all the presentation creation functions, but you get no tracking and limited collaboration tools. The Pro plan costs $25/month (or $22 per month when billed annually), and gives you more freedom to use Pitch in a team environment. Finally, the Business plan costs $100/month (or $85/month with yearly billing) and gives you access to the full suite of features.

Can’t decide if Pitch is the best presentation website for your team? Have a look at its most vital pros and cons:

  • AI slide creation feature
  • Performance analytics tools
  • Integration with various productivity and collaboration apps
  • Media asset library
  • Engagement tracking only available in paid plans
  • No integration with Google Slides or Microsoft 365

9. Beautiful.ai — Best site for no-frills AI-generated presentations

best presentation web site

  • AI-powered presentation maker
  • Slide creation from user’s prompts
  • Automated slide formatting
  • File sharing within the team (requires Team Plan)
  • Graphic assets database
  • Pro: $144 per year
  • Team: $40/month per user with annual billing ($50 with monthly billing)
  • Enterprise: Pricing available on request

Beautiful.ai is an AI-powered presentation builder that leverages full automation to make slide creation quick and easy. All you need to do is enter a prompt for your slide deck, and beautiful.ai will generate your first draft. These AI-generated drafts are quite simplistic in terms of both content and graphics, but they serve as a good starting point. Moreover, beautiful.ai’s presentations are formatted consistently, which should save you time as you edit each slide.

You get three pricing options with beautiful.ai — Pro, Team, and Enterprise. The Pro package is meant for individual use, and costs $144 per year (there’s no way to pay monthly). The plan equips you with the AI slide maker but limits your use of assets and team collaboration features. The Pro plan costs $50/month for each user, or $480 annual for each license you purchase. This plan affords access to more customization and teamwork functions and lets you use graphic assets. Finally, the Enterprise plan includes all the features of the Pro plan, but with more dedicated training and support for your team. You’d have to reach out to beautiful.ai’s sales team to get a quote for the Enterprise plan.

Beautiful.ai helps create slides quickly and with little skill. However, if you’re not sure this app is right for you, consider its most vital pros and cons below.

  • Quick way to create and format slides
  • Inexpensive plan for personal use
  • Elegant slide templates
  • No integration with Google Slides or Microsoft 365
  • Slide content is very basic
  • Limited customization and branding options

10. Google Slides — Best for Google Workspace Users With Basic Presentation Needs

best presentation web site

  • Basic presentation creation tool
  • Limited selection of templates, fonts, and colors
  • Supports import/export of PowerPoint files
  • Allows collaboration within the Google Workspace
  • Free with a Google account

Slides is the web-based presentation tool you get with your Google account. This rudimentary app features a limited library of templates, fonts, and colors, along with a basic suite of tools for formatting the text and graphics in your slides. You can insert your own image, video, and audio files into the slides, but there is no access to a library of royalty-free assets.

Despite its functional constraints, Google Slides is a useful app because it lets teams using Google Workspace collaborate easily on presentations. To get the most of Slides, though, you need to boost its functionality with a suitable extension. Google Gemini now works as an extension within the app, but for the $30 it costs you, the output is disappointing. All Gemini knows does is generate simple, low-quality images; it won’t help you produce, format, or edit presentations.

In contrast, an app like Plus AI leverages artificial intelligence algorithms to give Google Slides powers it lacks on its own. By using the Plus AI extension, you can create entire Slides presentations from a single prompt, automate slide editing and formatting, and access a rich library of templates and ready-made slide decks. Meanwhile, Plus AI’s customization features help you brand your presentations with custom fonts, colors, and your company logo.

Not sure if Google’s slide creation tool is right for you? Have a look at its pros and cons below.

  • Allows collaboration in the Google Workspace
  • Compatible with PowerPoint files
  • Supports AI-powered slide-creation extensions, such as Plus AI
  • Free to use with a Google account
  • Limited capabilities without third-party apps
  • No library with image, video, or audio assets

11. Microsoft PowerPoint — Best For Highly Skilled Presentation Designers

best presentation web site

  • Vast library of slide themes, variants, and layouts
  • Database of stock images and videos
  • Massive array of slide editing, formatting, and customization tools
  • Supports collaboration in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem
  • As a standalone product: $159.99 (one-time fee)
  • With Microsoft 365 apps, for home use: $6.99-$9.99/month
  • With Microsoft 365 apps, for business use: $6.00-22.00/user/month

PowerPoint is one of the world’s oldest presentation builders that’s been part of Microsoft’s arsenal since the early 1990s. To this day, PowerPoint has been the most commonly used presentation app. But there’s a reason we’ve ranked it last on our list. Buoyed by its popularity, PowerPoint hasn’t evolved much over time; you won’t get anything beyond the most basic and uninspired presentations out of it unless you’re an advanced user with lots of time on your hands.

The app’s user interface immediately overwhelms you with options and settings. Some of these seem similar in how they function, and you won’t know which tool to use until you’ve experimented with them all. Apart from the cluttered interface, PowerPoint disappoints with its simplistic selection of templates and designs.

You can use Microsoft’s Copilot to forgo the tedious task of creating your own PowerPoint presentation, but beware: like Gemini, Copilot is still limited in its slide-making abilities. You can get it to create a slide deck from a single prompt, but the output will feature basic and repetitive along with lifeless images.

PowerPoint’s pricing is a bit convoluted at a glance — you get different options whether you want the standalone product ($159.99) or the entire Microsoft 365 suite. If you choose the latter, the Home options range in price between $6.99 and $9.99 per month, while the Business plans cost between $6.00 and $22.00 per month per user.

We don’t believe that PowerPoint is worth your time considering the vast selection of more powerful and user-friendly presentation apps on the market. However, you can review the app’s pros and cons below and decide for yourself.

  • Massive selection of design and customization tools
  • Integrates with Microsoft Copilot
  • Lets team members using Microsoft 365 work on the same presentation simultaneously
  • Overwhelming user interface
  • Very basic templates and designs
  • Creating professional presentations is a challenge for novice users
  • AI assistant cannot produce elegant, content-rich slide decks

How we ranked the best presentation sites

To make your selection process simple and effective, we ranked the best presentation websites based on these vital criteria:

  • Functionality
  • Level of AI sophistication
  • Ease of use
  • Collaboration options

Integration with popular slide creation tools

Value for money, functionality .

The best presentation sites are loaded with handy functions that enable you to make visually appealing, info-rich, and engaging presentations with little effort and minimal editing. These include customization tools, templates, image assets, and graphics refinement features.

Level of AI sophistication

AI technology is at the forefront of slide makers’ drive to create the best product for their clients. AI-powered presentation sites save you from spending long hours on writing content, digging up graphics, and then formatting every slide — AI handles these tasks for you. But not all AI slide creators are made equal. Some leave you with rudimentary decks that feature repetitive content and unrelated imagery. Others give you a solid starting point for an informative and captivating presentation.

Ease of use

The best presentation sites greet you with an intuitive and uncluttered interface that takes you minutes (if not seconds) to master. But usability goes beyond navigating the UI. That’s why we also assess the simplicity with which you can actually produce presentations. Simply put, how easy is it to create and edit slides? Do you need advanced design skills to manipulate the graphics and give the slide deck your desired aesthetic ? The best slide makers take these questions into account, so that their product makes presentations a breeze. You worry about the content, and let the app do the rest.

Collaboration options

High-quality presentation apps allow team members to create, edit, and give feedback on presentations remotely. That’s because today’s business needs, along with hybrid work arrangements, mean that more and more teams are forced to collaborate electronically. Features such as cloud-based file sharing and integration with communication platforms help different members of your team work on the presentation from wherever they are.

Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint are the most commonly used presentation programs in the world. These two giants are the natural, go-to option for slide creation in the corporate, educational, and institutional world. Any presentation app that’s worth its salt should integrate with at least one of these tools. At the very least, a quality independent slide app should be able to import and export files that can be used in Google Slides or PowerPoint.

The best presentation apps are usually not free, but the money you pay for them should be worth the features and benefits you get in return. That’s why we’ve evaluated each of the slide makers above based on the balance between their price point and their offerings.

How to choose the best presentation website for your needs?

You can’t really go wrong by opting for any of the 10 presentation sites above; however, to get a tool that’s tailored to your use-case, you’ll have to do a bit more research and analysis. The four steps below should help you zero in on the optimal presentation maker for your needs.

  • Consider the purpose of the presentation. Some slide tools cater to sales teams (think Pitch), others to graphic-minded users (Haiku Deck comes to mind), while others, like Plus AI, are excellent all-rounders.
  • Decide on the level of customization you need. How concerned are you with personalizing and branding your slide decks? If a generic, templated presentation is all you need for a school project, investing in a feature-rich, customizable tool may be overkill. But if you need your slide decks to feature custom colors, fonts, and convey your brand identity, opt for a tool (and pricing package) that has this functionality.
  • Decide if you want AI help. Unless you’re a skilled designer with a passion for creating and formatting slides, AI can be incredibly useful. Consider this: would you rather spend hours on refining your slides and ensuring consistency, or have the AI tool produce a uniformly formatted first draft? Check out the best AI presentation makers here.
  • Factor in your budget. Most presentation sites have similar pricing, with monthly plans ranging between $0 and $40. However, some charge more — much more. Of course, the higher price points generally translate into richer offerings that may include other apps for visual content creation. Consider whether you need these extras or if a capable slide creation tool will suffice.

Even people with basic design abilities without substantial technical knowledge can create visually appealing presentations.
  • Compatibility with Popular Software: Most websites offering PowerPoint templates have built-in functionality for popular software applications, including Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides. This compatibility allows users to efficiently and comfortably edit and modify the templates to their liking, including their preferred software, adding flexibility to the service.
  • Real-time Collaboration: Real-time collaboration is supported by some platforms, allowing multiple users to create a presentation together effectively and version history. This feature fosters teamwork, and the presentation creation process is streamlined, allowing for easy revisions.

How to Choose the Right Presentation Website for Your  Needs

While looking for the right websites to make presentations, here are some crucial factors for you to consider:

interactive presentation websites

  • Assess your presentation needs

First things first—determine your presentation needs. What does your presentation want to accomplish? Determine whether you require a formal corporate presentation, a presentation for an educational setting, a portfolio of your artistic work, or any other particular presentation style.

  • Look into the features the website offers

Next, evaluate available features. Look for websites that offer customizable templates, multimedia support, collaboration features, integration with other tools, and data visualization capabilities. Research different presentation websites and compare what they offer to find the right fit for your requirements.

  • Ensure the website is user-friendly

Don’t forget to consider ease of use! The website should provide a user-friendly interface and intuitive design tools. Time-saving features like drag-and-drop capabilities, pre-made layouts, and various formatting options can make your presentation look professional while saving you time.

  • Check for multimedia support

Examine your alternatives when it comes to choosing a template and multimedia support. Ensure your chosen themes and templates are appropriate for your desired look and feel. Additionally, confirm that the presentation website can display multimedia components, including interactive media, audio, video, and photos. These can improve your presentation and keep your audience interested.

  • Ensure the platform allows collaboration

Collaboration and sharing options offer another critical consideration. If you plan on working with others on your presentation, look for platforms offering real-time collaboration or other features that make sharing and feedback easy.

  • Check for mobile optimization and device compatibility

One more thing to remember — with the increasing use of mobile devices, ensure that the presentation website is optimized for mobile viewing. Check if the software works well with your Windows, Mac, or tablet. It should provide responsive design and compatibility across various devices and screen sizes.

  • Review the privacy and security policy

Finally, review the privacy and security measures provided by the presentation website. Remember to consider cost when evaluating your options.

The art of digital storytelling: Engage and thrill on screen.

Genially in a nutshell

How do I make a presentation interactive and how does Genially work? Find the answers to all of your slide-related questions here!

What’s an interactive presentation?

Interactive slides contain clickable hotspots, links, buttons, and animations that are activated at the touch of a button. Instead of reading or watching passively, your audience can actively interact with the content.

Genially’s interaction presentation software allows you to combine text, photos, video clips, audio and other content in one deck. It’s a great way to condense more information into fewer slides.

If you’re a teacher, you can share multiple materials in one single learning resource. Students can create their own projects using digital media and online maps. For business or training, try embedding spreadsheet data, PDFs, and online content directly in your slides.

An interactive slide deck is more user-friendly than a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or Google Slides document. That’s because you can break information down into chunks with pop-ups, labels, voiceovers and annotated infographics.

The other benefit of interactive content is increased engagement. It’s easier to keep your audience’s attention when they’re actively participating. Try Genially’s presentation software and free slideshow maker to see how it’s better than other presentation websites. You won’t go back to standard presentation apps!

How do you make a clickable slide?

The best way to make slides clickable is to use Genially’s free interactive presentation program. Design your slide then apply an interaction. In a couple of clicks, you can add popup windows, hyperlinks, close-up images, games, animations, multimedia and other content.

The best presentation software in 2024

These powerpoint alternatives go beyond the basics..

Hero image with logos of the best presentation software

The latest presentation apps have made it easier than ever to format slides and create professional-looking slideshows without giving off a "this is a template" vibe. Even standard PowerPoint alternatives have updated key features to make it easier than ever to collaborate and create presentations quickly, so you can spend more time prepping for your actual presentation.

If, like me, you've used Google Slides unquestioningly for years, it's a whole new world out there. The newest crop of online presentation tools go way beyond the classic slideshow experience, with new features to keep your audience's attention, streamline the creation process with AI, and turn slide decks into videos and interactive conversations.

I've been testing these apps for the past few years, and this time, I spent several days tinkering with 25 of the top presentation software solutions out there to bring you the best of the best.

The best presentation software

What makes the best presentation app, how we evaluate and test apps.

When looking for the best presentation apps, I wanted utility players. After all, slideshows are used for just about everything, from pitch decks and product launches to class lectures and church sermons. With that in mind, here's what I was looking for:

Pre-built templates. The best presentation tools should have attractive, professional-looking templates to build presentations in a hurry.

Sharing and collaboration options. Whether you plan to share your webinar slides later, or you just want to collaborate with a coworker on a presentation, it should be easy to share files and collaborate in real-time.

Flexibility and customization options. Templates are great, but top presentation apps should enable you to customize just about everything—giving you the flexibility to build exactly what you need.

Affordability. Creating compelling presentations is important, but you shouldn't have to bust your budget to make it happen. With capable free tools on the market, affordability is a top consideration.

Standalone functionality. There's no reason to use multiple tools when one can do it all, so I didn't test any apps that require and work on top of another presentation app like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Familiar, deck-based interface. For our purposes here, I only tested software that uses slides, with the familiar deck-based editor you expect from a "presentation" tool (versus, for example, a video creation app).

Beyond that, I also looked for presentation apps that brought something unique to the table—features above and beyond what you can get for free from a legacy solution like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Here's what my testing workflow looked like:

I went through any onboarding or guided tutorials.

I created a new deck, scanning through all available templates, noting how well-designed they were (and which were free versus paid).

I added new slides, deleted slides, edited text and images, and played around with other content types.

I changed presentation design settings, like color schemes and background images.

I reviewed and tested the sharing and collaboration options.

I tested out presenter view (when available).

After my first round of testing, I went back into the top performers to test any unique or niche features, like AI, brand settings, and interactive content. With that, these are the best presentation apps I found—each one really brings something different or radically easy to the table.

Canva, our pick for the best free presentation app

Canva pros:

Excellent free plan

Tons of amazing templates for all use cases

Feature-rich

Canva cons:

The AI tools aren't groundbreakingly useful

Canva offers one of the most robust free plans of all the presentation apps I tested. The app delays account creation until after you've created your first design, so you can get started building your presentation in seconds. Choose from an almost overwhelming number of beautiful templates (nearly all available for free), including those designed specifically for education or business use cases.

Anyone who's accidentally scrolled too far and been bumped to the next slide will appreciate Canva's editor interface, which eliminates that problem altogether with a smooth scroll that doesn't jump around. Choose from a handful of preset animations to add life to your presentations, or browse the library of audio and video files available to add. And Canva also has a number of options for sharing your presentation, including adding collaborators to your team, sharing directly to social media, and even via QR code.

Present directly from Canva, and let audience members submit their questions via Canva Live. Once you share a link to invite audience members to your presentation, they can send questions for you to answer. As the presenter, you'll see them pop up in your presenter view window, so you can keep the audience engaged and your presentation clear. Alternatively, record a presentation with a talking head bubble—you can even use an AI presenter here—to share remotely.

Canva pricing: Free plan available; paid plans start at $120/year for 1 user and include additional features like Brand Kit, premium templates and stock assets, and additional AI-powered design tools.

Beautiful.ai pros:

True AI design

No fussing around with alignment

Still allows for customization

Beautiful.ai cons:

No free plan

If you're like me, editing granular spacing issues is the absolute worst part of building a presentation. Beautiful.ai uses artificial intelligence to take a lot of the hassle and granular design requirements out of the presentation process, so you can focus on the content of a presentation without sacrificing professional design. If I needed to make presentations on a regular basis, this is the app I'd use.

Many apps have recently added AI design features, but Beautiful.ai has been doing it for years—and they've perfected the experience of AI design, ensuring the tool's reign as the most streamlined and user-friendly option for AI design.

The editor is a little different from most presentation apps, but it's still intuitive—and you'll start off with a quick two-minute tutorial. When creating a new slide, scroll through "inspiration slides" to find a layout you like; once you choose, the app will pull the layout and automatically adapt it to match the design of the rest of your presentation.

With 10 themes, several templated slides, over 40 fully-designed templates, and more than 20 different color palettes to choose from, Beautiful.ai strikes a perfect balance between automation and customization.

While Beautiful.ai doesn't offer a free plan, paid plans are reasonably priced and offer sharing and collaboration options that rival collab-focused apps like Google Slides. And speaking of Google, you can connect Beautiful.ai with Google Drive to save all your presentations there.

Note: I re-tested the generative AI feature (called DesignerBot) this year. It's great for adding individual slides to an existing presentation—automatically choosing the best layout and matching the design to the rest of the deck—but as with most other apps, it struggled to pull in relevant images.

Beautiful.ai pricing: Plans start at $12/month for unlimited slides, AI content generation, viewer analytics, and more. Upgrade to a Team plan for $40/user/month to get extra collaboration and workspace features and custom brand controls.

Prezi pros:

Doesn't restrict you to standard presentation structure

Lots of customization options

Prezi Video lets you display a presentation right over your webcam video

Prezi cons:

Steep learning curve

Struggling to squeeze information into a basic, linear presentation? Give Prezi a try. Unlike nearly all other presentation apps on the market, Prezi Present doesn't restrict the structure of your presentation to a straight line. The editor focuses on topics and subtopics and allows you to arrange them any way you want, so you can create a more conversational flow of information.

With the structural flexibility, you still get all the same customization features you expect from top presentation software, including fully-editable templates. There's a learning curve if you're unfamiliar with non-linear presentations, but templates offer a great jumping-off point, and Prezi's editor does a good job of making the process more approachable.

Plus, Prezi comes with two other apps: Prezi Design and Prezi Video. Prezi Video helps you take remote presentations to a new level. You can record a video where the presentation elements are displayed right over your webcam feed. Record and save the video to share later, or connect with your video conferencing tool of choice (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet) to present live.

Prezi's generative AI feature works ok, but it's more useful as a wireframe. When I asked it to create a presentation about the Stanley Cup Playoffs, for example, the resulting content read a lot like a student writing a term paper in the broadest strokes possible to avoid doing any actual research.

Powtoon pros:

Timing automatically changes based on the content on the slide

Can toggle between slideshow and video

Can orient presentation as horizontal, vertical, or square

Powtoon cons:

Limited free plan

Powtoon makes it easy to create engaging videos by orienting the editor around a slide deck. Editing a Powtoon feels just like editing a presentation, but by the time you finish, you have a professional video.

You can edit your slides at any time, and when you hit play, a video plays through your deck—the feel is almost like an animated explainer video. Each slide includes the animations you choose and takes up as much time as is needed based on the content on the slide. Powtoon figures the timing automatically, and you can see in the bottom-right of the editor how much time is used on your current slide versus the total presentation. If you ever want to present as a slide deck, just toggle between Slideshow and Movie.

You'll likely need to subscribe to a paid plan to get the most out of Powtoon—like creating videos longer than three minutes, downloading them as MP4 files, and white-labeling your presentations—but doing so won't break the bank. Plus, you'll unlock tons of templates complete with animations and soundtracks.

One of my favorite Powtoon features is the ability to orient your video: you can choose horizontal orientation (like a normal presentation) or opt for vertical (for mobile) or square (for social media). When your presentation is ready, you can publish straight to YouTube, Wistia, Facebook Ads, and any number of other locations.

The best presentation app for collaborating with your team

Pitch, our pick for the best presentation software for collaborating with your team

Pitch pros:

Google levels of collaboration

Assign slides to specific team members

Excellent generative AI feature

Pitch cons:

User interface is a little different than you're used to

Need to collaborate on presentations with your team? Pitch is a Google Slides alternative that gets the job done. As far as decks go, Pitch includes all the beautifully-designed templates, customizability, and ease of use you expect from a top-notch presentation tool. But the app really shines when you add your team.

The right-hand sidebar is all about project management and collaboration: you can set and update the status of your deck, assign entire presentations or individual slides to team members, plus comment or add notes. Save custom templates to make future presentations even easier and faster.

You can also invite collaborators from outside your company to work with you on individual decks. And if you opt for a paid plan, Pitch introduces workspace roles, shared private folders, and version history.

Pitch also offers one of the most impressive generative AI features on this list. It still struggles to pull in relevant images, but I found the AI-generated written content and design to be top-notch.

Gamma pros:

Creates fully fleshed-out presentations from a prompt

Conversational chatbot-like experience

Can still manually edit the presentation

Gamma cons:

Not as much granular customization

I tested a lot of apps claiming to use AI to up your presentation game, and Gamma's conversational AI features were head and shoulders above the crowd.

Simply give the app a topic—or upload an outline, notes, or any other document or article—approve the outline, and pick a theme. The app will take it from there and create a fully fleshed-out presentation. It's far from perfect, but Gamma produces a very useful jumping-off point. (Last year, it was by far the best, but this year, other apps are catching up.)

Here's the key: Gamma is much more geared toward the iterative, chatbot experience familiar to ChatGPT users. Click on the Edit with AI button at the top of the right-hand menu to open the chat, and you'll see suggested prompts—or you can type in your own requests for how Gamma should alter the presentation.

Once you've done all you can with prompts, simply close the chat box to manually add the finishing touches. While you do sacrifice some granular customizability in exchange for the AI features, you can still choose your visual theme, change slide layouts, format text, and add any images, videos, or even app and web content.

Mentimeter, our pick for the best presentation software for audience engagement

Mentimeter pros:

Tons of audience engagement features

Simple for participants to interact

Mentimeter cons:

Less granular customizability

Bit of a learning curve

If you need to engage with an audience during your presentation, Mentimeter makes that easy. The app is designed around interactive elements like quizzes, surveys, Q&As, sliders, and more (even a Miro whiteboard!).

Each of these is included in a number of different, professional-looking templates, so you can build a fully interactive presentation super quickly.

When it's time to present, your audience members can scan the QR code with their phone cameras or type in the URL and access code to participate. There's one code per presentation (so they won't have to do this on every slide), which gives access to each slide as you move through the presentation.

There are two main drawbacks to this one, though. First, there's a bit of a learning curve and less familiar editing interface (but I found it pretty easy to learn with some practice). The other drawback is that you can't get as granular with the visual customization as you can with many other presentation tools.

Tome, our pick for the best presentation software for generative AI

Top-tier generative AI features

Simple, customizable templates

Intuitive doc-style editor

There's definitely a learning curve

Tome is one of the new additions to this list that I'm most excited about. If you're looking for generative AI that just genuinely works , it's definitely worth a look. The editor is a bit more stripped down than most presentation apps but intuitive nonetheless—it's almost a cross between your standard deck editor and a Notion-style doc.

To generate an AI deck, click Generate with AI in the top right, and either write your own prompt or choose from the example prompts that cover a handful of common use cases, like sales enablement and company pitches. Edit or approve the suggested outline, then generate the full presentation.

From there, you can edit each slide as a doc via the right-hand menu—without limits on how much information you can include. During the presentation, you simply size down any slides that take up more than the standard amount of space. It's super simple but somehow feels revolutionary in a presentation app.

What about the old standbys?

You might notice a few major presentation players aren't on this list, including OGs Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides. These apps are perfectly adequate for creating basic presentations, and they're free if you have a Windows or Mac device or a Google account.

I didn't include them on the list because the presentation space has really developed in the last several years, and after testing them out, I found these behemoths haven't kept pace. If they weren't made by Microsoft/Apple/Google, I might not even be mentioning them. They're pretty basic tools, they're behind the curve when it comes to templates (both quantity and design), and they don't offer any uniquely valuable features like robust team collaboration, branding controls, video, and so on.

In any case, if you're reading this, you're probably looking for an alternative that allows you to move away from one of the big 3, and as the presentation platforms featured above show, there's a ton to gain—in terms of features, usability, and more—when you do.

What about PowerPoint and Google Slides add-ons?

While I focused my testing on tools with full feature-sets—those that can serve as your sole presentation tool—there are a ton of add-on tools you can use atop big name tools like PowerPoint and Google Slides.

13 Best Free Presentation Websites Alternatives to PowerPoint in 2023

‍ What is a presentation website?

Presentation websites are applications created to present information as a slide show. Slideshows are presentations that comprise charts, images, videos, and the standard text. They ensure that data is displayed clearly, summarized, and readable to the audience.

Slideshows work best when presented on a projector or a big screen. Intermittently, some users might print out slide shows as documents, but this is ill-suited for that purpose.

Any presentation tool must have three fundamental functions:

  • ‍ A text editor: to input the contents of the presentation.
  • ‍ An import function: to insert and manipulate images and other content.
  • ‍ A slide-show or presenter mode: that displays the content in a nice, formatted way.

Slide shows often consist of a combination of text, video, images and charts. Their primary function is displaying clear, readable and summarized data to an audience.

Most presentations are shared and presented on a larger screen or through a digital projector. In rare occasions, slide presentations are printed out as a replacement for text documents, but this is a really inefficient way to review data, that Garr Reynolds calls ‘ PresDocs ’ (Garr Reynolds is the author of Presentation Zen, one of the most important go-to reference for successful presentations).

How do I create a presentation without PowerPoint?

Numerous alternatives to PowerPoint are on the Internet. The issue is not about creating a presentation without PowerPoint but getting that presentation tool or software that can help achieve your goal.

While many tools offer free accounts to peruse and utilize online and offline presentations, some do not. This does not mean the free tools are not good, rather, it is just a marketing idea.

What can I use instead of PowerPoint for free?

Here are some presentation tools you can make use of instead of PowerPoint;

WPS Office boasts functionality and a well-designed, along with offline document capabilities. Sometimes accused of having very similar features to Microsoft Office, users can efficiently work on PowerPoint files. It also offers many templates. However, collaboration might be a bit stressful.

WPS Office is available on Android, Web Windows, iOS, Linux, and macOS.

If there is one thing Canva has, it is templates. Canva makes PowerPoint look simple with a vast array of templates for every specification. If you have a problem with making decisions, do not use Canva.

However, that is its Achilles heel; many people find themselves scrolling for so long. Not all templates are free but, it helps narrow down your options.

  • Bonus Tool: InVideo

InVideo is considered a cloud-based online video editing tool with the feature of creating slideshow videos. it contains a huge selection of slideshow templates, stock footage, photos, and music to make great slideshow videos without a watermark. Although it is available for free, some features require a premium subscription.

Without a doubt, it can be stressful to get that one presentation software that can fit your exact specifications and give the required output. Although utilizing Slidebean can be very flexible, it can also be use to produce the best infographic presentation that compares data in an easily-understood manner.

5 Free Alternatives To Microsoft PowerPoint

M icrosoft PowerPoint has always been the default choice for creating professional meeting briefs or fun little project demonstrations in schools. Its inclusion as a free service for students or working professionals makes it a no-brainer to use. However, for the general public, it can get quite expensive to pay for a subscription just to be able to create simple presentation slides. Although you can subscribe to Microsoft's Office Suite and get more bang for your buck, the pricing still doesn't hit the affordable range for most.

Fortunately, completion has been growing, and a sea of strong contenders offer similar services to PowerPoint. After considering feature sets, here are five of the best free alternatives to Microsoft PowerPoint. At the end of the article, you can find a detailed explanation of why we've chosen the services, alongside useful comparisons that may help you make your decision easier.

Read more: The 20 Best Mac Apps That Will Improve Your Apple Experience

When it comes to productivity apps, Zoho makes some of the better ones in the market. Zoho Sheet, for example, is one of the best Microsoft Excel alternatives out there  —  owing to its extensive product catalog, there is a great way to view and edit presentations. The aptly named Zoho Show lets you design and demonstrate professional-looking slides, all without having to download the program.

Zoho takes a minimal approach to most of its services, and its PowerPoint application is no different. You'll find that most menus are contextually aware of what tasks you're currently performing, which helps keep unnecessary tools out of the way and bring the important ones in focus. There is also a huge library of customizable templates you can choose from, making it easier to kickstart your presentation work.

Zoho Show is completely free to use for individuals and offers unlimited cloud storage. No features are locked behind a paywall, and rest assured, you can fully rely on this online presentation-making tool for all your needs, be it for school or work.

Canva is a service that can easily climb up to becoming everyone's favorite once they start using it. While most applaud it for its graphic designing prowess, there are many other things Canva can do that you probably aren't aware of . Among them is the ability to craft beautiful slides for your presentations and projects.

By creating a free account, you can access thousands of templates on Canva. You can filter these by use case—maybe you need one for a professional business briefing or a casual one explaining why your pet dog is the best canine. There is a whole section of ready-to-use templates dedicated to mobile-friendly viewing as well, which is something you don't usually find to be as accessible with other tools.

Like most presentation apps, Canva lets you collaborate with your team members and work across devices seamlessly. The Canva app for mobile also lets you control your slides remotely during your presentation. Some menus also feature AI-featured tools to add one-click enhancements to your slides -- unfortunately, these are locked behind premium subscription tiers. However, for the cent percent of the population, Canva can be used without spending a dime to meet a plethora of creative needs.

Apple takes great pride in developing in-house solutions to meet every user requirement. While most of its products dominate the competition in popularity, the same cannot be said for Keynote , the company's version of Microsoft PowerPoint. The program was first released in 2003 with macOS Big Sur and has largely remained one of those icons you glance over and forget about.

However, recent versions of Keynote have made it a compelling alternative to PowerPoint. Not only is it pre-installed on every Apple device, including your iPhone, but it also works best with the iPad touchscreen. Keynote has a largely clean and professional approach to the built-in templates, but nothing is stopping you from going creative. Animations are one of Keynote's strongest suits, allowing you to create near cinematic-looking presentations with just a few clicks.

While you can still use Apple Keynote through iCloud on Windows devices, this alternative is clearly meant for people surrounded by the walled garden of Apple technology. It makes use of features like AirDrop, Live Photos, and VoiceOver  — all of which are technologies available across Apple devices. Using Apple Keynote is completely free, and the app has easy exporting tools that make working with Microsoft PowerPoint less of a hassle.

WPS Presentation

WPS Office makes some of the best solutions for creating and editing documents on smartphones , but their service offerings extend to Windows, macOS, and even Linux. WPS Presentation is perhaps the closest you'll get to Microsoft PowerPoint in terms of the user interface and how most tools are bundled in familiar locations.

This PowerPoint app offers real-time collaboration where you can invite your team members and work on the same document remotely. Like most collaboration tools, users can leave comments to suggest changes or add information for other people on the team.

WPS Presentation is not the only free product; you can utilize every app in the WPS Office suite. Unlike most competitors, you don't need to download or use a separate mini-app to make presentations. WPS Office has a document editor, PowerPoint creator, spreadsheet manager, and other tools all within its umbrella. Premium plans for this service exist, but they mostly cater to unlocking features for editing PDFs.

Google Slides

As a netizen, you most likely already have a Google account. Not only is it required to make any meaningful use of your Android phone, but popular services that we take for granted, like Gmail and Drive, all fall under Google's umbrella. One such free service that the tech giant has at its disposal is Google Slides . While the barebones UI might seem lackluster at first, Slides has nearly the same level of functionality as Microsoft PowerPoint and can even be supercharged by add-ons.

All of Google's workspace apps, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides, provide an intuitive way to work in a team. You can add comments, use annotations, and share the presentation with limited access to others. You can use one of the many predesigned Google Slides templates for simple presentations , or browse for templates that cater to specific needs. Being part of a bigger service catalog has its obvious advantages, such as seamless integration with Google Meet, Gmail, and other products from Google that you already use.

We recommend Google Slides to anyone who needs to create and edit PowerPoint presentations on the go and can't be bothered with working in a complicated environment. The service is also available as an app for Android and iOS, and you can export your presentations in a wide range of formats, including PPT, PDF, or PNG for individual slides.

To Pay Or Not To Pay?

You'll notice that all the services we've mentioned on this list are free to use. In fact, you can use Office 365 apps online for free   — including PowerPoint, which makes purchasing a standalone subscription to the Microsoft PowerPoint app quite redundant. However, nearly every free alternative here short of Keynote also offers premium plans, but should you consider buying one?

For the vast majority of people who are looking for a robust software to create, edit, and share presentations with  —  these free options deliver exceptionally well in every aspect. Some apps like Google Slides and Apple Keynote let you work in smaller teams with the free tier as well. Apps like WPS Office and Canva tend to lock new and exciting features like AI tools behind a paywall, and while these are nice to have, you definitely can do without them.

If you're looking for a presentation tool for a company with multiple people, you can scale up using any of the alternatives mentioned on this list. Both Google Workspace and Zoho offer reliable and enterprise-level plans you can upgrade to. For everyone else  — enjoy creating and demonstrating your PowerPoint presentations for free.

Let’s prepare to turn your local expertise into a global sensation.

What Are The Criteria to Consider When Selecting a PPT Submission Site

With so many PPT submission sites out there, it’s really hard to pick the right one for your needs. Let’s consider some key things:

Who is your target audience, and what is the purpose of your presentation?  While some websites target experts in certain fields, others are more widely accessible.  Consider the message you want to get out, then pick a website where people who are interested in your material are actively looking for it.

Can you picture creating a work of art that nobody will ever see? Select a website that receives a lot of traffic and has a strong online presence. This makes it more likely that people who are looking for relevant topics will come across your presentation.

Not every website is made equal. Select a presentation platform with a solid reputation.  To gain an impression of the site’s overall professionalism and quality, read reviews and look through the existing content.  Adding your work to a credible platform enhances your credibility as an expert.

Every website has different requirements for uploading and arranging presentations. Examine these rules thoroughly to make sure your PowerPoint satisfies their requirements. Take into account the features that the website provides as well. Select a platform with features that enhance your presentation and promote audience participation.

Sharing your work shouldn’t be difficult. Select a website that has an easy-to-use interface for uploading and navigating.  To promote your presentation and reach a larger audience, look for platforms that link with social media or other internet tools you use.

How to Determine The Relevance of a PPT Submission Site to Your Content

free ppt submission sites how to determine the relevance of ppt submission site

Choosing the right PPT submission platform matters. That’s why We’re going to explore simple strategies to ensure your presentations reach the right audience effectively:

Visualize the perfect audience for your talk. Does the website draw in readers with an interest in that subject? Take a few minutes to examine the website’s user base to see if it includes members of your target market.

Is there a central location for presentations like yours on the platform? Examine the website to see if the content already there relates to the theme of your PowerPoint. Picture a neatly arranged library; you want your educational and attractive PowerPoint presentation to be displayed among other top-notch presentations.

Do presentations of the highest caliber get priority on the website? Seek out platforms that have precise submission standards and a quality control procedure. This guarantees that there are presentations surrounding yours that are up to par.

Look for platforms with a robust user base where material is actively engaged with. Examine the website’s traffic and user activity to see whether a sizable audience may be reached by your material. This is an effective way to reach a wider audience.

Do you want to improve the search engine ranking (SEO) of your website? Seek out resources that provide dofollow backlinks to presentations that have been submitted. For search engines , these hyperlinks function as tiny votes of confidence.

What are The Risks of Submitting PPTs to Low-Quality Sites

free ppt submission sites what are risks of submitting ppt to low quality sites

Sharing your presentations online can be a fantastic way to connect with a wider audience. But choosing the wrong platform for your PPT submissions can have downsides. Here’s why it’s important to be picky about where you share your work:

Low-quality sites might have low traffic or poor search engine ranking. This means your fantastic presentation could get buried and never seen by the people who could benefit from it most. It’s like creating a masterpiece, only to have it hidden in a dark corner of a dusty library – that’s what submitting to a low-traffic site can feel like.

Submitting your work to a site with a bad reputation could potentially hurt your image as a professional. Think of it like associating your name with a disorganized community center. Do some research to make sure the platform is known for quality content and attracts viewers who value your expertise.

Some low-quality sites might be magnets for spam or irrelevant content. This can make it difficult for viewers to find your valuable presentation amidst the clutter. Imagine searching for a specific recipe on a website, only to find pages of unrelated ads and off-topic articles. The frustration of viewers trying to find your work in a low-quality site can be just as real.

Be wary of sites with unclear copyright policies. You want to ensure you retain ownership of your work and control how it’s used. Think of your presentation as your unique recipe. A good submission site respects your ownership and ensures you get the credit you deserve.

Spending time submitting your PPT to a low-quality site is wasted effort. It won’t get you the exposure or engagement you deserve. Opt for reputable platforms with a good audience and clear guidelines. This will maximize the impact of your presentations and connect you with the viewers who matter most.

The world awaits your knowledge! By considering these criteria and exploring the top sites, you can find the perfect platform to share your presentations. Remember, high-quality submissions and targeted platforms are key to maximizing your reach and establishing yourself as an expert. So, go forth and share your stellar slides, the world is ready to learn from you!

Why We Picked It

Weebly gets the top spot for one of the best website builders because of its low cost, flexibility and ease of use. In 2018, Square acquired Weebly, which combined the power of Weebly’s drag-and-drop editor for site building and Square’s e-commerce prowess. Now you have the option to create a small business website with Weebly’s popular editor or choose an online store and build it using Square’s no-frills e-commerce site builder.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, shared his opinion on Weebly: “I’ve had the chance to use Weebly a couple of times. Their interface is fairly intuitive, so it’s a pretty good tool for a small business owner or entrepreneur looking to build a website on their own. They do come a bit short in regard to how many payment gateways they can integrate with.”

General Features

I’d like to start with a mild warning: If you already have an account with Square or Weebly, you may have trouble signing up for a new Weebly account. I have used both Square and Weebly in the past, but I tried to start a Weebly account with my business email and was rejected because I already have an account. I tried all the standard troubleshooting methods and finally gave up trying another day. The next day, I had zero issues, so I guess it was on Weebly’s end.

There are many fans of Weebly and its site editor. You’ll have to choose the personal site option at setup to use it; otherwise, it suggests you use Square for e-commerce options. The themes that Weebly offers are clean but also a bit plain. On one hand, Weebly’s site editor is easy with its drag-and-drop functionality; on the other hand, it can be difficult to figure out where features are. For example, changing fonts and colors are all in the menus. And there isn’t much you can customize once you choose a theme. However, you can choose a different theme and keep your content, which saves a ton of time.

There’s a lot you can do with Weebly extras that come as add-ons or with high-tier plans, including adding an e-commerce element to sell physical or digital items, selling online courses and adding custom code while editing. One of my favorite options with Weebly is the app marketplace. I easily added a couple of plugins that are free to use to my site editor. With the vertical divider, I changed the look of my site and the text animation app let me create fun text blocks on my site.

Weebly is more affordable than many of its competitors. The free plan is only worth using if you want to create a personal site and share it with friends and family because you can’t change the branding on the footer. Paid plans range from $10 per month (billed annually) to $26 per month (billed annually).

It is possible to use the free or low-priced plan to sell products, which is uncommon among website builders. I added a shopping cart and set it up with a product page and connected my Stripe account.

I can tell you all about my experience using Weebly over the years, but I’m only one example. User reviews tell a different story. The mixed reviews include complaints about slow or non-existent support and bugs with the editor. However, there are also glowing reviews from long-time customers that praise the ease of use and low prices. Ratings range from 1.4 to 4.4, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll love or hate Weebly.

Standout Feature

If you decide you don’t like your Weebly theme, even after adding your own content, you can switch themes and your content stays. It’s an uncommon feature for most website builders.

Who Should Use It?

Weebly is one of the best website builders for small business, entrepreneurs, bloggers, creatives and e-commerce sellers. Put plainly: It’s a great choice for anyone—especially beginners. Its intuitive site editor takes little time to learn, and the themes it includes ensure your site will look like a pro designed it.

  • Easy to use
  • Affordable plans
  • e-commerce options available
  • Unlimited storage & bandwidth
  • Hundreds of free stylish themes
  • Limited customization
  • Limited live chat & phone support

Weebly’s free plan gives users a good way to test its site editor without the time constraints of a free trial. However, its free plan does not allow you to connect to a custom domain. Instead, sites on the free plan use a Weebly subdomain, such as yoursitename.weebly.com. While the $10 per month (billed annually) Personal plan allows users to connect a custom domain, it displays Weebly ads, so it is unsuitable for business use.

Those looking for a professional business website will need to choose the $12 per month (billed annually) Professional plan at a minimum. This allows you to connect a custom domain without Weebly ads. Although it’s more expensive than its Personal plan, it is competitively priced and provides a good value with a free domain name and several e-commerce features that are not widely available at such a low monthly price.

Best for Service Providers

GoDaddy

$10.99 per month

$20.99 per month

Designing a site with GoDaddy’s website builder requires zero technical skill—all you have to do is answer a few questions about the purpose of your site and you’ll get a prebuilt site that’s ready for customization. Or you can choose a template you like and start adding your content through the drag-and-drop editor. GoDaddy doesn’t offer as many design options as some of its competitors, but the templates are clean and professional.

I’ve tested GoDaddy multiple times over the years and it only gets better and easier to use. I tried out the prebuilt site, which is great to use as a jumping-off point, but I prefer to have a little more control over the look and feel of my website. This time, I used one of the templates to create a video game coaching site with the ability to accept online appointments. Each time I added a new section that required more setup, GoDaddy’s site builder sent me to the right area automatically.

Compared to other site builders, GoDaddy is as easy to use as its competitors. The main menu lives on the right side, but that didn’t derail me much. Changing navigation details such as my favicon or social media info all exist in the settings menu. Once I finished designing my site and adding my content, I decided I didn’t like the template (I can be fickle), so I swapped out the theme. Much to my relief, all my content remained. I also realized something that I take for granted: GoDaddy’s site builder auto-saves.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, sees room for improvement: “GoDaddy’s website builder is not my favorite because I feel it lacks in flexibility; however, it’s a great starting point to build your first website or re-vamp an old one, plus you can integrate it with a bunch of other GoDaddy tools and also third-party solutions.”

I already mentioned that you can build a site for accepting online appointments, but there are also options to set up an e-commerce site and restaurant reservations. As far as I could tell, the only way to set up subscriptions is via a third-party app.

Although we aren’t actively scoring AI assistance, I did test some of GoDaddy’s AI tools. The recommended professional description for a service I added was spot-on, though a bit generic. At the very least, it saved me a bit of time writing a full description. I tried some of the other voices offered and that’s when the AI tool kind of fell apart. The humorous option was way off base, while the encouraging one simply added an exclamation point to the professional option.

The cost of a GoDaddy plan is reasonable compared to other website builders. There’s a free plan, which is nice if you just want to test out the site builder and tools, but I’d never use it for an actual website because you can’t connect a unique domain name and GoDaddy ads are placed on the site. The introductory pricing for all plans is decent and good for the first year you sign up, but it’s most generous for the Premium plan (you save 34%).

If I were only going to create a website for personal use, the Basic plan would be enough for me. However, I like that GoDaddy includes email marketing tools and the best value for my money would be the Premium plan, which offers 25,000 email sends per month versus the Basic plan’s 100 sends.

GoDaddy has always received mixed reviews from users and experts alike. For years, the biggest complaints about GoDaddy have been poor customer service and hidden fees. In my experience, customer support was helpful but it can take a while (it took me 40 minutes from start to finish to get a refund). Ratings across several sites and forums range from 1.07 to 4.4 out of five stars.

GoDaddy website builder stands out for its appointment booking tool. This enables service-based businesses to accept online bookings easily. Plus, GoDaddy uses its technology to design a site based on your needs. It will even add stock images related to your site or business theme.

GoDaddy offers features specifically for small businesses and online stores. Many of the marketing and SEO tools are built into the editor or dashboard, but not all come with your monthly plan.

  • Low introductory pricing
  • Free 30-day trial
  • Very beginner-friendly editing interface
  • Built-in appointment booking
  • Modern themes
  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • 24/7 customer support
  • Built-in email marketing automation
  • Does not include a free domain name
  • Pricing increases upon renewal
  • Limited app market

GoDaddy’s feature-rich Basic plan is suitable for most businesses looking to build a professional website. The biggest difference between the plans is the number of emails you can send per month. All plans come with built-in email marketing that enables you to capture leads on your site and automatically send email campaigns. However, the Basic plan has a maximum of 100 email sends per month, whereas the Premium plan has a maximum of 25,000 and the Commerce plan allows for 100,000

IONOS

$1 per month for six months

(renews at $18 per month)

(depending on the add-on)

IONOS is better known as a web host, but its website builder MyWebsite competes with some of the most popular standalone builders. The interface is intuitive, and the drag-and-drop functionality makes it easy for anyone to use. New users get a deep discount on the first six months with IONOS, and renewals aren’t that pricey (starting at $6 per month, for the first six months and then $12 per month for the last six months).

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, enjoys IONOS as well: “IONOS is a great starting point for any small/medium business, I believe. Their interface is easy to digest and intuitive, and even though the builder has a couple of limitations when trying to design creative sections/containers, I think it’s still a pretty good option.”

I’ve used IONOS as a web hosting service and its website builder reminds me a lot of site builders used in conjunction with add-ons like Elementor. I tried to sign up for an account, but I got an error with my address multiple times. To test the website builder, I borrowed a login from a friend.

Starting a website with the MyWebsite Now from IONOS is easier than most website builders. I simply filled out fields, chose a theme I liked and the site builder populated a lot of the design for me. I replaced text and photos with my own content and that was it. Adding new elements was just a matter of pointing and clicking or dragging and dropping.

The biggest benefit to using IONOS for building a website is that it includes many of the features that would require plugins otherwise. For example, you have the option to create different kinds of content for different audiences that visit your website if you choose the Plus or Pro plan. There’s also an SEO “coach” feature that kind of mimics what Yoast does for WordPress users.

Although I found the website builder easy to use (it’s similar to Elementor, in my opinion), there are some trade-offs you might notice if you choose IONOS over other site builders. There’s no built-in email marketing tool and SEO tools are only available on higher-priced plans. I played around a little with IONOS’ AI tools and it works similarly to other site builders’ AI. I used different tones and chose the wording that best fit my site, but in the end, I edited it so much that I probably should’ve just written my descriptions from scratch to start.

Also, there are only a handful of integrations you can use with IONOS, which I think limits your abilities to personalize and monetize a website. There’s another limiting factor that I didn’t run into, but only because the account I was using was on the Plus plan: You can’t move elements around inside a section if you’re on the Starter plan.

If I could dock points to website builders that make their plan costs confusing, I would, but we don’t do that here. IONOS gives a hefty discount for all of its plans, but only for the first six months and then you pay the regular rate. Going from $1 per month for six months to $18 per month is a bit of a shock for your pocketbook. When you strip away the intro prices, IONOS is more expensive than some of the more popular website builders.

On top of the confusing pricing, IONOS also offers add-ons at strange introductory rates. For example, when I signed up for the Plus plan (for the website builder product), I got a free domain name (for one year) and I thought I would get the AI-assisted SEO “coaching” tool, but it’s actually $10 per month for six months and then $30 per month (oh, but the first month is free). My head was spinning and I think I wore out my calculator.

I can see why IONOS gets a grab bag of excellent, fair and poor reviews from customers. I contacted support via live chat to find out why I couldn’t sign up for an account, but the agent I spoke with was of no help; they gave me a phone number and told me to call support instead. And though no one was able to fix the issue I had, support was prompt, at least.

Ratings from users and reviewers range from 1.08 to 4.8, but IONOS is both a web host and a website builder. So, I dug deeper into user reviews to see what people really thought of the site builder itself. It turns out customers have mixed feelings about the user interface (UI); most users find it easy to use, while others say it’s confusing.

On IONOS’ Pro plan, you can create personalized content for specific visitors. So, first-time visitors will see something different than return visitors. Or you can set it up to display content differently based on sales, holidays or other specific events.

Though its entry-level plan isn’t suitable for professional use as it has a 10 web page maximum, its mid-tier plan is more affordable and feature-rich. For that reason, it’s a good choice for budget-strapped startups that need an easy way to quickly build and launch a new website.

Best for Creatives

Squarespace

$23 per month

Squarespace is one of the most popular and best website builders because it’s packed with useful features. You can create an online store, blog, portfolio site, a small business website or a membership site. The editor is user-friendly, but it may take a while to learn the location of menus and features. It’s kind of a cross between a drag-and-drop editor and a point-and-click editor.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, agrees that Squarespace is user-friendly: “Squarespace website builder has interesting features, it’s user-friendly and has been adding more and more features lately. It does have some limitations, especially in you’re on a basic plan, but I still believe it’s a great starting point for small/medium-size businesses.”

Squarespace is best known for its award-winning templates and easy-to-use site editor. I’m a fan of the clean and modern designs that Squarespace offers, though I can see how they all look a little similar and generic. As soon as I added my own logo and some images that made sense for my site, it felt more like my site.

I’ve used Squarespace to build sites before and the drag-and-drop editor is still intuitive to me. With that said, it requires multiple clicks to get to some features, so it can be a bit tedious to use. In a way, Squarespace’s builder reminds me of using WordPress with Elementor to build blocks, but Squarespace groups elements together so you aren’t building everything from scratch. For example, I was able to quickly add an appointment booking section without having to add all the fields one at a time.

I also had no trouble adding a blog or turning my site into an e-commerce store. It was simple enough to figure out where to add meta descriptions and titles for blog posts and, though it took a while for photos to show up, I was able to add some royalty-free images from the built-in Unsplash photo tool.

What I like best about Squarespace is that it’s an all-in-one website builder, so there’s little need to shop around for plugins and other tools to create and promote my site. I was able to create emails for my audience and set up automations with triggers so I could just set it and forget it.

Though there’s little need for other tools, I did like that I was able to add extensions (integrations) to Squarespace. I connected a product review app that can automatically collect reviews from customers. It was a one-click installation, so it should be easy for anyone to set these integrations up.

Adding a service-based section to require appointments was as easy for me as creating a website. I simply followed the prompts to set up my Acuity Scheduling page and noted that Squarespace let me use a copy button to set the same time for all the days I had availability.

Squarespace also includes tools for creating a members-only section and Tock, an addon for accepting reservations, which is vital for some restaurants. There’s also an option to find a professional designer to create a Squarespace website for you. I like that there’s an option for this, but I didn’t find it necessary because Squarespace is so easy to use.

Depending on which website builders you compare to Squarespace, it’s either on par with others for cost or far more expensive; I rarely find Squarespace the cheapest option. Website building plans range from $16 to $49 per month, billed annually. For professional design services, costs vary depending on the designer’s rate; membership sites range in price from $9 per month to $89 per month, billed annually; Acuity Scheduling costs $16 to $49 per month, billed annually; and Tock ranges from $99 per month to $899 per month, billed annually.

Looking at star ratings across the internet, it’s a mixed bag: Squarespace gets as low as 1.4 to mediocre at 3.5 and as high as 4.6 (all out of five stars). This is why I looked at individual reviews to get a sense of why users rate it so high or low.

While I personally like Squarespace, I admittedly haven’t run into the issues other users have. Many users have reported that canceling the auto-renewal of subscriptions on Squarespace can be challenging. Another common issue that users have is that Squarespace can be frustrating to use if you want full control. On the flip side, there are plenty of Squarespace user reviews that call out how easy and quick it is to get a website up and running.

Lauren Galvez, an SEO consultant, had positive things to say about Squarespace: “As a small business owner, I tested many CMSs before committing to one for my business, and I ultimately decided to go with Squarespace. I find the platform to be intuitive and easy to use for both building my website and making any necessary edits. I think their templates and design elements are aesthetically pleasing to easily create a beautiful and professional website. Their customer service has been responsive and helpful whenever I’ve had questions, and the online Squarespace community is an active and supportive place for me to learn from others about how to get the most out of the platform.”

Squarespace lets you enable accelerated mobile pages (AMP), which lightens the load of blog pages. Reducing the size of images, using a specific font and removing custom code speeds up loading time on mobile phones.

Squarespace is one of the best website builders for creatives—photographers, designers and other artists would do well with a Squarespace design. It’s also a good choice for an online store, especially with specialty features like the limited availability labels.

  • Transparent pricing that doesn’t increase upon renewal
  • Stunning, modern designs
  • User-friendly editor
  • AMP formatting available
  • Limited availability labels for e-commerce
  • Good amount of apps for added functionality
  • Limited customer support
  • Lacks design and customization freedom
  • More expensive than most website builders
  • Must upgrade to an e-commerce plan to sell online

Though Squarespace isn’t the cheapest website builder on the market, every plan is suitable for professional use. That said, many businesses will find that even its entry-level plan is a good value as it is packed with features from an extensive template library to a free domain and SSL certificate. Businesses looking to sell online will find its Basic Commerce plan worth the price as it has zero transaction fees, which can save a good deal of money.

Best for Simplicity

HostGator

$3.75 per month

(with three-year billing)

$4.99 per month

HostGator is one of the most affordable options of all the best website builders. The editor itself is simple to use. The true drag-and-drop editor is intuitive and allows you to drag an element anywhere on the page you’d like.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, shared his thoughts with us on the platform: “HostGator’s website builder is very similar to GoDaddy’s in regard to how much you can accomplish with their tools. I do like that you can always pay for add-ons, which is how pretty much every web platform works, but overall I feel it’s a bit limited.”

HostGator’s templates are generic but customizable, so you can change the look of your website to make it unique. I counted more than 200 themes, so there are a lot of options. In regards to the actual website builder, I’d say HostGator fashioned its app like other built-in website builders that web hosts use. To me, it’s a lot like Elementor, but with fewer options. I had access to elements such as buttons, text, images, video and maps.

As far as designing a website with HostGator’s editor, I had zero issues. The tutorial is fairly detailed, so I was able to follow along easily or venture out on my own. I added elements to a page and then resized as needed, which is nice for design freedom. With that said, I kind of like having a snap-and-lock style of editor because I’m not the best designer and if given full reign, I might not leave any white space on a page (for those who don’t know, that’s bad design).

While HostGator offers tools to help with SEO, email marketing, e-commerce and malware protection, they’re all add-ons that cost extra. In fact, the only thing you get that’s considered “extra” is the ability to add a blog to your site. I will say that HostGator’s add-ons are easy to install and use, but I just can’t get past how much HostGator nickels and dimes you for features and tools that are often included at no extra charge with other website builders.

HostGator’s introductory rates are meant to draw you in, but at checkout is when I realized just how pricey this option can be. The entry-level plan seems affordable at $3.75 per month, but you have to commit to three years and pay that up front, which is $135. After that, your rate increases to $9.99 per month on an annual basis, which is $119.88. Not bad at first glance. But I want site protection, backups and an SSL certificate, which all cost extra (a total of about $100 more per year). These “extras” are typically included in most competitors’ plans at no extra cost.

I want to mention that I spent so much time on HostGator’s site that it tried to entice me with an even better introductory rate: $2.75 per month (for a three-year contract). So, if you’re committed to using HostGator, try to get the lowest possible rate for your first long-term commitment. Also, finding the actual pricing for HostGator requires you to go through checkout, so it’s difficult to figure out what you’ll actually pay (read more on my experience with this frustrating design below). I had to use an incognito window to find out the actual pricing, by the way.

I want to start by sharing my own experience with HostGator to help explain why users give the host and site builder low ratings. I signed up for one month hosting ($11.95) and one domain name ($0.99). I didn’t add on any additional services, yet a hosting add-on was in my subtotal for $14.95. There was no explanation of what that was for and I triple-checked the services I chose; there was no $14.95 option. I tried talking to a live chat agent and one phone support agent and neither of them could help. It turned out the third person was able to point to a slightly hidden option of domain privacy that was selected under a different tab. So, HostGator’s UI is a bit confusing, but it seems the company is trustworthy at least.

HostGator’s reputation is a bit up and down. User and reviewer ratings range from 1.8 to 4.2, but overall it’s middle of the road. Lots of complaints are regarding iffy refund policies, deleted files, IPs on blacklist and unauthorized charges.

Peter Garcia Leets, a digital marketer and web specialist and one of our advisory board members, also hasn’t had a good experience with HostGator’s customer service. “If anything goes wrong with their tools, settings or account, then it become really complicated and time-consuming for them to actually fix it,” he shared.

On the flip side, there are user reviews that praise customer support and low prices.

HostGator includes a helpful tutorial to get you started using its editor. Although many other website builders have the same feature, HostGator’s is particularly detailed, so you likely won’t need to contact customer support.

We’d suggest HostGator for personal projects, blogs or a simple small business website. It’s affordable and offers an easy-to-use editor, but it’s lacking in template options.

Best For Code-Free Customizations

Wix

Wix is one of the most popular website builders because it offers something for everyone. You can use the free plan to create a website, but you’ll be on a subdomain and have Wix display ads. The lowest-priced plan is a bit limiting, but you have access to lots of free apps to extend your site’s functionality.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, shared his experience with the platform: “Wix has great tools to build visually appealing and creative web layouts. I love how it lets you go beyond the basics of web design. The only downside is that it’s not so easy (sometimes it’s not even possible) to integrate third-party tools with your Wix website.”

I used Wix a long time ago and as I recall, I liked the simplicity of its site editor. The dashboard and site editor have changed slightly since then, so it was like I was a new user all over again. In fact, it took me a while to realize the button I needed to press to get to the website editor was in the top right corner, which didn’t feel intuitive to me. But to be fair, I had previous experience and my expectations were wrong.

Wix now uses sections to help you design a website, which can either be helpful or annoying. Adding sections is as easy as choosing the category of section, such as a welcome message and then the style of section. After that, you just drag and drop it into a cordoned off area and fill in with your content. A separate box with settings opens where you can adjust font, text size and effects in a text box, for example.

There’s a point during setup where you can choose the type of website you’re building (portfolio, blog, restaurant, online store, e.g.) and the prompt tells you that it will personalize your dashboard to fit your website’s goals. I changed mine from portfolio to blog to restaurant and nothing changed.

A new feature for Wix is an AI generator for design. I tested a welcome message for a restaurant site (Medieval Meals). I added a few key notes that should be included and the AI sort of got it right, though the image it chose made zero sense and the text was a little odd, so I needed to adjust both. I don’t think I’d use it in the future because it didn’t save me much time, but as it gets better in time, it could be a helpful tool.

The sections Wix offers are generic and I was a bit disappointed, but maybe my expectations were too high. I still think Wix is a great option for restaurants to build their websites, but there were no sections specifically for creating a menu, which was surprising. I had to build it from scratch.

I think one of my favorite features is the AI image creator that’s built into Wix’s site editor. I described the type of image I wanted and it created precisely what I needed. I would argue that the image creator is better than the text generator. The only thing I don’t love (and this is probably because of the snap-to-grid style of Wix’s site editor) is that I can’t position anything where I want it, like slightly left of center.

Wix offers so many extra features that many of its competitors don’t. In fact, I’d say Wix is probably the best option for restaurants and hotels that need a website because it includes specific features for these types of businesses. As far as the standard extras that I typically look for in a website builder, Wix offers almost all of them. I could easily add meta descriptions and titles and there’s built-in email marketing included in all paid plans.

The only thing that I was disappointed to see was that I couldn’t swap themes and keep my content. Honestly, I expected Wix to have changed this feature to keep up with competitors that allow you to switch website templates any time.

I appreciate a few things about Wix’s pricing plans. First, the website builder offers a free plan, which is great for trying out the builder to see if it’s what you want. Second, pricing is fair given that the low-priced plan includes a free domain name for the first year, lead capture forms and email marketing features.

Although I would never choose the Business Elite plan, I appreciate that Wix includes so many features for development, e-commerce, data management and customized reporting tools. However, it’s $159 per month (billed annually), which is expensive for the industry.

Wix fares well in user and reviewer ratings: The lowest rating I found was 3.7 and the highest at 4.9 (out of five stars). Personally, I’m a fan of Wix and its support. I had no trouble contacting an agent when I needed help figuring out how to connect my domain (which is an easy process, but I needed to test support).

Wix offers one of the biggest template libraries for an all-in-one website builder. There’s more than 900 designer-created templates. Not all of them are winners—some look very dated—but most are modern and fit for multiple industries.

Who should use it?

Wix is a great option for new small business owners, especially those who want to try running an online store. Although the e-commerce plans seem pricey, Wix’s plans are comparable to competitors.

Best for Dropshipping

Shopify

$29 per month

Shopify is primarily an e-commerce website builder. All of the paid plans come with built-in shopping carts and marketing features to help you sell online. There are only nine free e-commerce templates from which you can choose. If you don’t mind paying, there are dozens of premium templates available, but they cost about $100 on average.

Our advisory board member Peter Garcia Leets also likes Shopify: “Shopify is a great option for small e-commerce or dropshipping businesses. It has hundreds of pre-built layouts and it has pretty much all you need to start selling online, including payment gateways that connect fairly easy to your bank account, etc. If you’re looking to build a more corporate, high-end website, this is not a great option. I completely agree with Shopify being the best option for dropshipping.”

Although it’s been a while since I last created an online store and website using Shopify, it was just as or even easier than I remember. I used the guided walkthrough to create my store and add products.

Adding a product is technically easy to do, but it’s a tedious process because of all the fields and options available. I spent about 30 minutes per product because I added a SKU, barcode, pricing, photos, description and category. After adding a few products, it got a little faster thanks to muscle memory. Shopify includes a preview of what your product page looks like when it comes up in search engine results, which helped me decide to edit the description to make it shorter. The only thing I wish Shopify would add is an autosave.

Although Shopify is easy to use, I found it less intuitive than other website builders. It wasn’t entirely clear where I should look for my actual website and the editor. I could’ve clicked on every option in the left-hand menu, but I saved myself time by searching the help center. I started by changing my theme (it was several years old) and that’s when I remembered that Shopify only offers about a dozen free themes. The best news is that I was able to swap my theme and keep my content.

Editing my site and store on Shopify became easier over time. I ran into a few errors (twice while trying to browse free images). A frustrating part of using Shopify’s site editor is that you have to create color schemes for your theme. I get why Shopify does this; forcing you to use a color scheme creates consistency across your site. Personally, I just want to change individual elements to slightly different shades of the same color sometimes and I couldn’t.

There’s no denying that Shopify is one of the best website builders for selling physical products, whether you’re shipping items yourself or dropshipping. One thing I couldn’t do on Shopify is sell subscriptions without using an app from Shopify’s marketplace, which costs extra to that third-party seller. Once upon a time, I wasn’t able to sell online courses through Shopify, but that’s an available feature now.

I’ll be the first one to point out that Shopify seems a bit expensive compared to other website builders, but you get a lot of value from each plan. It’s also worth noting that Shopify hasn’t increased its prices in years; the low-priced plan has been $29 per month (billed annually) for as long as I can remember. One of the biggest benefits of choosing a higher-priced plan is the discount you get on payment processing rates, but this is only relevant if you have a higher volume of sales. Other benefits are for businesses with multiple inventory locations and global sales.

With all that above being said, I’m a fan of the Shopify Starter plan. At $5 per month, I can add products and a buy button to my existing site, which is really all I need. I can also use the Shopify app to accept credit card payments when I sell my products in person.

Overall, Shopify gets excellent reviews for its site editor and features. It’s recognized as one of the pioneers of e-commerce and it remains high on many lists as one of the best e-commerce platforms . With that said, Shopify ranges in five-star ratings from 1.5 to 4.7.

Users mostly complain about slow responses from support and holds on funds. While I can’t personally check the validity of these complaints, I think it’s safe to assume that every service receives similar complaints. As far as praise goes, Shopify users say the platform is easy to use and offers good support when needed.

Shopify Starter costs $5 per month and allows you to add a buy button to a site you already own, your social media or sell in person with the Shopify point-of-sale mobile app.

Only serious e-commerce small businesses should consider Shopify. It’s meant for building online stores, not just websites. It’s an ideal solution for brick-and-mortar businesses that want to sell inventory online too.

Best for Affordability

Hostinger website builder.

Hostinger Website Builder

$2.99 per month plus three months free

(billed every four years)

$3.99 per month plus three months free

Hostinger Website Builder is a website builder with one of the lowest introductory prices we’ve seen. To take advantage of the low cost, you have to agree to a four-year contract. You’ll get your choice of at least 150 free templates to get you started on your website. The designs are clean and rely on hero images to anchor the designs.

Darryl Stevens, founder and CEO of DIGITECH Web Design, also likes the platform’s pricing: “[Hostinger is] a newer player in the market but stands out for its affordability and simplicity. It offers AI-driven tools such as content generation and image editing, which can be valuable for businesses looking to get online quickly and efficiently.”

I started by letting Hostinger Website Builder create my website based on a description and some keywords and I was mostly satisfied with the result. Not all the text was spot-on and the site it created was a bit generic, but I just modified what I didn’t like. This might seem like an odd thing to get excited about, but I was giddy about the ability to adjust the leading by dragging a group of text up or down in a text box. Typically kerning (spacing between letters) and leading (vertical spacing between sentences or paragraphs) is a style you can adjust by numbers. This small feature makes it easy for visual people (like me) to get everything right where you want it.

Hostinger includes SEO guidance in each page’s settings, which is a nice addition. After making changes to a page, the built-in guide let me know when I got it just right with my content length, keywords and image alt tags. With that said, it didn’t assess the quality of my content. I’m not sure writing about my Golden Retriever and Foxhound did much for the organic skincare website I was working on.

Overall, Hostinger’s website builder is easy to use. The AI tools saved me some time with design and I enjoyed the process. I feel like I could design a website I like with Hostinger, but other website builders tend to offer more elements and a little more freedom with design. Plus, I couldn’t swap out my AI-built theme for a pre-built one that Hostinger offers and keep my content.

Although I liked building a site with Hostinger, I didn’t get a chance to try all the features because I kept running into reloading errors and some sections didn’t load to begin with (more on that below).

Perhaps it was just server lag, but I couldn’t create my online store for at least a full minute. The site just hung, as though frozen, when I clicked “continue.” It finally finished loading and I was able to add products and fill out my shop. Once again, it seemed as though I’d run into lag issues, but it turned out I hadn’t scrolled down to add a price. Nothing indicated that I had unfinished fields until I scrolled. I’m going to chalk this up to Hostinger not being as intuitive as it usually is.

One of the newest features in Hostinger is built-in marketing. Naturally, I thought this meant email marketing tools, but no. It’s just integrations with social media channels for advertising. The closest thing you get to added marketing tools is a contact form and a subscribe button for lead generation.

To get the best value-to-cost ratio, I suggest you choose the longest-term plan available. It’s a little expensive on the front end, but you’ll get one of the best deals for a website and hosting available. Hostinger’s low-priced plan costs $2.99 per month if you choose a four-year contract, but you have to pay that total upfront. The month-to-month plan is standard for the industry at $11.99 per month, but it comes with a $4.99 setup fee, which makes it more expensive for the first month than most of Hostinger’s competitors.

It might be worth noting that Hostinger offers a discount if you meet all of its checklist requirements within 24 hours of signing up.

Hostinger Website Builder receives decent reviews that average around 3.75 on a five-star scale. To be fair, most of the positive user reviews came before Zyro joined the Hostinger team. A lot of the issues users seem to report on are regarding the changes that came after the fact, such as discontinued plans and features and lack of support. It’s still an easy-to-use platform and many users note that there are enhanced features.

Hostinger offers a tool that allows you to import an existing website to its platform. It’ll pull in the content from the site to its site builder, so you can essentially plug the content into a new design quickly and easily.

Hostinger Website Builder seems like a good fit for first-time website creators that don’t plan to add a lot of content. Its editor is very easy to use, and the price is attractive. However, it’s a long commitment to get the low price.

Best for Versatility

Wordpress.org.

WordPress.org

(web hosting and domain name not included)

First, we’d like to be clear that the WordPress we’re recommending here is the open-source free content management system (CMS) from WordPress.org, not the site builder of the same name at WordPress.com. The popular CMS is also one of the best website builders because of how much flexibility and freedom you get with the platform.

To start, I should tell you that I use WordPress for my personal website and it works well for my needs. I should also tell you that I hate building websites from scratch. Given that information, it would make much more sense for me to use Wix or Squarespace, both of which I enjoy using. However, it’s hard to ignore the freedom and flexibility I have with WordPress.

Using WordPress without any plugins is difficult if you have no experience building websites. I prefer to use it with Elementor, a plugin that gives you a drag-and-drop site editor. Without plugins, I get frustrated. Still, it’s possible.

Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member, also likes Elementor: “For WordPress, in my experience, the best options are Divi and Elementor, in that order. For their versatility, flexibility and scalability.”

I started by connecting my domain and installed WordPress (keep in mind that you need a web host for all of this). Then I chose a theme. WordPress offers seemingly countless themes you can use for free (and many more that cost around $100 each). I went with the basic Twenty Twenty-Four theme for testing purposes, but I suggest choosing one that’s tried and true (like Astra).

The standard editor isn’t true drag-and-drop, but you can drag elements onto a page you’re customizing. Mostly WordPress uses a point-and-click style of editing, which is still easy but tedious, in my opinion. A lot of page building in WordPress happens in the settings menu where you can add a site title, tagline and custom URL.

Perhaps the bit I like the least about building a website with WordPress is how exhausting it is. You have to remember to click save or you’ll lose work. I also have to bounce back and forth between creating pages, adjusting the settings, going to the appearance section and creating menus and so on. Blogging on WordPress, on the other hand, is very easy, but that makes sense because WordPress started out as a free blogging platform.

The extras in WordPress are really just the free themes that are packaged with the platform. For e-commerce, lead generation, email marketing and SEO tools, you’ll need to find plugins. The good news is there are a bunch of free plugins you can use to set up your site, but if you aren’t tech-savvy, it could prove difficult.

You can’t get better than free. As a website builder, WordPress is free to use. However, it isn’t free to get your site online. You’ll need to pay for hosting and premium themes or plugins to make building your site easier and better. Don’t forget to register a domain name and buy an SSL certificate. These extras may add up, but generally, it’s much cheaper to create a website this way than with an all-in-one website builder.

It’s difficult to tell you what the overall opinion of WordPress as a website builder is because it’s easy to confuse WordPress.org (the platform) with WordPress.com (the hosted site builder). Ratings tend to range from 2.5 to 4.9, but overall WordPress is a popular platform with professional website builders. Users who are new to website creation say it isn’t user-friendly and there’s no support. And the thing is, they aren’t wrong. I have lots of experience building websites and I won’t do it without plugins. Plus, there is no support beyond the community because WordPress.org is a free and open-source platform.

You won’t find a more customizable website builder than WordPress. The only caveat is that you may need to hire a freelancer to help code your website to make it do what you want or learn how to use the right combination of plugins to get what you want.

WordPress isn’t difficult to use by any means, but it isn’t as easy as the all-in-one website builders. If you have some tech know-how and you want a customized website with web hosting of your choosing, then WordPress is good for you—whether you want an info-only site or an online store.

WordPress is a free open source content management system (CMS); however, that does not mean it won’t cost anything to build and maintain a professional WordPress website. Not only do you need to secure web hosting from a third party, but you also need to purchase a domain name and an SSL certificate. Best for Agencies

Duda

$19 per month

$7.25 per month

Although Duda is an outlier in this list of the best website builders, it earns its spot with its simplicity, flexibility and unique features. The lowest-priced plan is $19 per month with no introductory discount. To add on an e-commerce store, you’ll pay an additional $7.25 per month, making this one of the pricer options of the top website builders.

Darryl Stevens, founder and CEO of DIGITECH Web Design, shared his thoughts on the platform: “Duda is focused on speed and design, providing templates that are optimized for performance and mobile devices. It’s particularly good for agencies that need to build multiple websites quickly and manage them from a single platform.”

To start, I find Duda one of the most intuitive drag-and-drop website builders around. I have minimal coding experience, so I appreciated that I could build a website easily with the templates and the WYSIWYG editor. I also liked that I had the option to customize my website with code, should I choose to go that route.

Given that Duda is meant for digital agencies, I was happy to see Duda includes a client management tool that allows you to bill clients as needed. There’s also a client portal, so clients can edit their own site (you get to control permissions) and view and pay their bill. I’d likely use Duda’s white labeling service to brand my platform to give it a more professional look too. On top of this, Duda offers packages with unlimited storage and bandwidth, which makes it ideal for those selling websites to businesses.

A unique feature of Duda is that it allows you to leave comments on pages. In my opinion, this is a helpful tool that acts as a sort of markup tool for teams. My colleague left a comment with a note to update the logo on the site, so I knew precisely what I needed to change before the site was ready to ship.

Duda isn’t the cheapest website builder around but it is well worth the cost for agencies that sell digital services to others. The cost ranges from $19 per month, billed annually, to $149 per month, billed annually. One of the highest-priced plans, Agency, gives you four sites to start with, making it a great starter option and it’s the one I would choose if I wanted to sell my services

It’s important to keep in mind that many user reviews come from people who are highly impressed or highly outraged by a service or their experience, so I don’t usually trust just a star rating. I checked Duda user reviews to see what the biggest complaints were to determine whether the star ratings were fair. Many users are frustrated with a lack of security features (it doesn’t offer multi-factor authentication), platform errors, slow support and difficulty canceling a subscription. A lot of the negative feedback is warranted but doesn’t speak to the quality of the service and platform.

Users who are happy with Duda understand what the service is meant for: digital agencies. It gets a lot of positive feedback about its ease of use, helpful support and client-centric tools. Ratings range from 2.5 to 4.8 on a five-star rating scale across multiple review sites.

Standout Features

You can create rules for visitors to your site and it gets fairly granular. For example, you can have specific content show for site visitors who are geographically near your business.  There’s also a content library that makes it easy for you to import content from a client’s existing website into a new design you’re creating.

Due to Duda’s unique website personalization feature, it’s a good choice for businesses with multiple locations and sites that need to present different content to different site visitors. It’s also a good option for marketing agencies, given its white label options.

To determine the best website builders for small businesses, Forbes Advisor considered more than 25 of the most popular providers in the space and narrowed it down to 15 to analyze across five primary categories, for a total of 27 different metrics. These were then weighted to favor features that small business owners find valuable in a website builder.

Here are the key metrics we analyzed:

best presentation web site

A website builder is a platform that offers a drag-and-drop interface that makes it easy to create a website for users with little to no coding experience. These platforms generally offer integrated storage for photos and videos, options for adding a custom domain, hosting capabilities, pre-built themes and more. Third-party integrations are often available as well, allowing you to add elements such as shopping carts and lead capture tools. Advanced plans may even include custom email addresses and SEO analytics tools for next-level marketing campaigns.

“One of the best features of website builders is that you can decide how each element behaves according to the screen size. In simple words, this means that instead of the desktop version adapting to mobile, you can now design for each screen size (desktop, mobile, tablet, etc.), which is pretty awesome,” shared Peter Garcia Leets, our advisory board member and a web specialist and digital marketer of 11 years.

Note: There are two different types of website builders—online and offline. An offline website builder is software that you download to create the website on your personal computer. Online website builders are web-based and allow you to create and edit your website directly on the company’s server. This article focuses on online website builders such as Squarespace, Wix and Weebly.

A website builder converts your drag-and-drop commands into code. Your website can either be hosted by the company or connect to your hosting provider. Most website builders offer a selection of themes or templates that are suitable for different types of websites. For example, a portfolio would use a different template than an e-commerce store. Once you select a template, you’ll be able to customize many of the features. Depending on the website builder, this includes elements like typeface, the layout and the size of the text and images. You may also be able to add contact forms and embed videos.

While coding is often not required for many of the most popular web builders, most platforms do allow users to customize HTML and CSS to suit their needs.

There is no magical one-size-fits-all approach to choose the best website builder. You need to find the right balance of cost and features to fulfill your needs.

Determine Your Needs

Ask yourself some questions to help narrow things down:

  • Do you just need to display information, or should site visitors be able to interact with the pages?
  • Are you planning to sell products or services, or capture contact information of potential customers?
  • Will you be managing your site yourself or working with a third-party service provider?
  • Are you willing to pay extra for more features?
  • How much customization do you want in terms of layout and design?
  • Do you need to create any unique functionality like quizzes, forms, or newsletters?

Consider these elements when comparing products and you’ll soon find a service that fits the bill.

Explore Key Features

A website builder makes many of the complicated aspects of running a website simple and intuitive. Here is a list of some of the most common features:

  • Drag-and-drop interface: Many website builders allow you to drag and drop the components of a web page to design it as if you are assembling a collage. This could include text, photos, video or any other component on your web page. Each website builder offers different flexibility for customization options. Some companies use themes that are harder to adjust, while others allow you to customize almost every aspect of the web page with no coding whatsoever.
  • Pictures and video storage: Website builders make it easy to upload pictures and videos. With Squarespace, for example, you’ll have access to an image gallery on your account. This way, you’ll be able to edit and remove photos and videos from different pages, but still store them and refer to them in the future. Storage capabilities generally vary by subscription plan.
  • Hosting and domains: When you’re building a website, you need two components other than design: a website host and a domain name (the URL used to navigate to your site). Many website builders offer all three services. If you already own a domain name but want to use a different website builder (for example, you purchased your domain name through GoDaddy but want to use Wix for design), you’ll have to migrate your domain to the new platform.
  • Third-party integrations: Website builders make it easy to integrate third-party applications like social media feeds or shopping carts. Lead capture forms are another commonly used integration, allowing potential customers/clients to provide their information and dump it directly into your preferred CRM or data repository.
  • Mobile compatibility: Because so many people browse the web, mobile compatibility is an important feature for any website. Many website builders integrate this feature automatically and allow you to view the mobile version of your website as you edit. Some can even automatically adjust the elements on your site so that a single design functions well on multiple devices.
  • Business email: Most website builders come with the ability to create an email address with your domain name as the extension. Some always charge extra for this feature while others offer one or two emails for free and charge for each additional email, so be sure to choose the best plan for your needs.
  • Analytics and reporting: While many people use Google Analytics to assess traffic, most website builders come with their own form of traffic analysis with easy-to-read reports that are best for beginners. This will give you information about which websites your traffic is coming from and how viewers found you. If you are actively trying to develop your SEO and expand the reach of your website, you may find the need to invest in specific software for analytics. However, for most individuals and small businesses, the insight available through their website builder is sufficient.
  • SEO functionality: For the most part, website builders add SEO functionality in small ways. For example, you should be able to add meta tags and meta descriptions to blogs, change titles of web pages and add image alternative text, all of which can help you rank content higher in search engine result pages (SERPs). The best website builders provide at least the basics for SEO and give you the power to modify your site as needed for SEO optimization.
  • Ease of use and customer support: To be fair, ease of use is a subjective topic, but there are some website builders that are objectively easier to use. Those that offer drag-and-drop or WYSIWYG editors and templates are great for beginners who aren’t familiar with bare-bones site builders. When you run into an issue with building a website, having live support is best, and most website builders offer phone or live chat assistance. At the very least, it’s important to choose a website builder that offers a comprehensive help center with answers to common questions (or a forum with an active community).
  • Transferability: Although you’re likely not thinking about site migration, it’s something to consider when choosing a website builder. What if you build a site you like, but the site builder makes changes to its platform you don’t like? Can you transfer what you’ve built to another site builder? You should be able to transfer domains, but you need to manually create a list of your page URL names, download your site images and copy your site’s content to create a new site. Templates and site structure won’t transfer automatically.

When building a website, choosing a platform is only one piece of the puzzle. You also need to consider hosting costs, domain names, SEO analytics, custom email options, graphic design and more. You may even want to hire a content manager to make sure your site is updated regularly, keeping it fresh for new visitors. You should research prices of all web design costs to get the full picture of how much your site will cost.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the cost to build a website:

Here are a few important tips to help you create a successful site:

Design for Desktop and Mobile Devices

A mobile-responsive site automatically adjusts images, text and design elements to show up quickly and appropriately for a mobile phone. According to Google Analytics stats, more than  60% of traffic is mobile  in the U.S., so it’s important that your site is mobile-responsive.

Most modern site builders are mobile-responsive, but even those that are may not be 100% perfect. Be sure to always preview your designs on both desktop and mobile screens of different sizes. If you notice any errors, you can adjust your designs by changing up element sizing or even removing certain elements on specific screen sizes.

Consider Prebuilt Templates and Themes

The terms theme and template are usually interchangeable. They are prebuilt page designs that usually include menu navigation with the most common pages (home, about, contact, blog), a header and a footer. Most themes will include sample imagery and text, which you can replace with your own content. You can often customize the global template to best meet your needs as well.

Most site builders will have a variety of free and premium themes to choose from. Using these can help you get a well-designed site up and running much faster than if you were to build the site from scratch yourself. That said, not all themes are created equal. Be sure to preview all your pages to make sure there are no inconsistencies or errors as you add your content.

Add an SSL Certificate

A secure sockets layer (SSL) certificate is a file that encrypts data transfers to and from a website. So, when someone visits your secure website or enters information in any fields on your site (forms, username, password, credit card details), the SSL certificate keeps that data private. It’s important to have that security on your site for the end user, and having an SSL certificate can also help to improve your ranking in search engines.

Monetize Your Website

There are multiple reasons why you would want to build a website: for information purposes, to direct local traffic to your brick-and-mortar business, to build a brand or to sell products or services. If you’re looking to make money with your website, there are just as many ways to do so.

  • E-Commerce . One of the most obvious ways to make money online is to sell products on your website. If you go this route, you’ll want to choose one of the best e-commerce platforms or pick a website builder that offers e-commerce templates and built-in shopping carts. Third-party plugins can provide what you need to build an e-commerce site and market your products online. You also need to find a wholesale supplier or producer for the products you plan to sell and ways to market your products and brand. You may want to consider selling on marketplaces, such as Amazon, eBay or Walmart.com, as well.
  • Affiliate Marketing . If you consider yourself an influencer in a particular industry and your website is aligned, you may want to look into affiliate marketing. You can review products or services and recommend your favorites on your site with an affiliate link. Companies with affiliate programs pay you for clicks or sales of their products or services.
  • Sell Online Courses . Another common way to monetize a website is to sell online courses or digital products. Often entrepreneurs offer courses, e-books and guides for a low price as a hook for prospects to then sell them a bigger package, such as a ticket to an in-person convention or a multi-course class. This works well if you’re an expert in your field and you can educate or coach others in the same industry. Alternatively, you could offer memberships to your site for ongoing advice or courses. If you go with the membership option, make sure you choose a website builder that allows you to create password-enabled pages and to process payments online.
  • Offer Ad Space . Selling space on your site for banner ads is something that will be more viable as your site matures. You need to grow your audience and page views before advertisers are willing to pay bigger bucks for real estate on your website. There are automated platforms you can use to offer ad space that advertisers bid on, or you can sell your site space directly to companies.

Don’t forget the importance of compressing your images before uploading them. Non-optimized images and videos—especially if they’re high-res—are usually responsible for a slow-loading website.

It’s best to consider the amount of copy you want to include on the homepage, which can often inundate the reader and distract from the actual meat and potatoes of the content you want to present. Be succinct and provide a nice symmetry of text and images, the latter of which is meant to draw in the reader.

Whether you’ve outgrown your current website builder or you’ve found a better deal elsewhere, you may find you need to transfer your domain name and website to another provider. The easiest site migration solution is if you use a commonly supported content management system (CMS), such as WordPress. Many website builders offer site migration services to move your entire site over to its servers.

Manually transferring a website from a DIY site builder is likely to fall on your shoulders and you may need to recreate your site from scratch with a new template. For example, if you build a website using Squarespace, you won’t be able to migrate your existing site and design to, say, Wix.

Follow these steps to transfer your site to a new website builder:

1. Sign up for a new web hosting provider or website builder 2. Download backup files (sitemap, images, etc.) 3. Create a list or take a snapshot of your website design for reference 4. Find a similar template or design your website from scratch on your new site builder platform 5. Transfer your email (if applicable) and domain to the new server and go live

It’s important to keep in mind that domain transfers can take days or even weeks. During this time, your website will be offline. Make sure you give your website visitors plenty of notice of this downtime and stay in touch with them via your social media channels. You can then turn the transfer into a bit of a grand reopening, if you’d like to boost traffic to your rehomed website.

If you want to create a website and don’t have experience coding, a website builder is the easiest way to do it. The other option is to build your website yourself, but this requires knowledge of coding or hiring a professional. The benefit of hiring someone is that you have complete control of how the website looks.

When you are working with a website builder, you will likely come across design challenges that the website builder does not support. For example, let’s say you want a drop-down menu, but the theme you’re using doesn’t offer that feature. Or, you may love a particular template but find you’re not able to change the color theme.

Each website builder and each theme within it has different limitations, and you often only learn what they are as you go. If you don’t need complete creative control, you’ll find that the best website builders offer more than enough features to build a professional website.

Forbes Advisor has compiled a list of other services that you may need in order to get your website off the ground and thriving. Check out these guides for more essential information:

How much should I pay for a website?

You can create a website for a personal project for free if you don’t mind a subdomain and display ads. To make a small business website , you should expect to pay about $200 to $300 as an initial investment, and maintenance will likely range from $5 to $50 per month, depending on whether you have an online store.

What is the best website builder today?

The top three web builders available today are Weebly , GoDaddy and Squarespace . These platforms feature prebuilt themes and drag-and-drop interfaces, making it easy and affordable to create a functional, well-designed website.

How scalable are website builders?

Website builders are highly scalable, and your plan can be modified easily to meet the needs of your growing team. If you outgrow even the top-level package of your service, many vendors offer enterprise-level functionality with customized pricing. It may be worthwhile to get in touch with your system’s customer service team to learn more.

Are website builders secure?

Because most website builders offer cutting-edge technology, they are usually ahead of the curve when it comes to keeping their sites secure. They do this by keeping their customers’ websites protected by using top-end technology. Because of this, most website building companies offer some of the best security options available on the internet.

Is there a free website builder?

Many website builders offer free plans. These include Wix, SITE123 and Ucraft. However, these free website builders do not allow you to create a website that only includes your branding. Their brand names, for example, may appear in the form of watermarks, in the free website’s domain or footer of the website. They also often have limited storage and other needed features for building a fully developed website. Learn more about the best free website builders .

How long does it take to build a website?

The time it takes to build a website varies depending on whether you’re using a website builder, creating it from scratch or hiring a professional site designer to create your website. On average, you can expect to go from ideation to creation in 10 to 14 weeks. If you choose a website builder with an easy-to-use editor, you can theoretically build a website in less than a day (if you have content ready to add to your site).

How do I build an e-commerce website?

To build an e-commerce website , you need to start by choosing a CMS that supports e-commerce sites or allows you to use shopping cart plugins and payment processing. Then build your e-commerce website with a theme, add products, test your links and finally launch your site.

How do I host a website?

Every website on the internet starts with a hosting service provider. To host your website , choose a CMS through a web hosting provider or a website builder and purchase the service. Many web hosts and website builders offer a free domain name for your first year, so you should be able to register a domain through your hosting service. Then, you simply connect your domain to your web host and build or migrate your website.

How do I get a domain name?

Once you’ve settled on a domain name (or a few, in case the one you want isn’t available), head to a domain registrar to register a domain name . You have many options from which to choose, but keep in mind that you may also be able to register a domain name through your web host. Purchase and register your domain, and then point your domain to the appropriate name server so your website appears with the proper web address.

Should I build my own website or hire someone?

If your budget allows you to hire someone to build your website and you have complex needs, then you may want to outsource the design of your website. However, building your own website is far more cost-effective and it’s easy to do with the help of a website builder. Plus, many website builders are all-in-one solutions that include domain registration, web hosting and a site editor with free themes or templates to get your design started and your site launched.
