Check for my essay about my holiday trip to Singapore

windcloud232 1 / -   Oct 22, 2008   #1 Hi, I need help for my paper. Please help me to check the grammar and anything wrong on my essay. Thank to spend your time to read it...^^ I have heard much about the beauty of Singapore, one of four remaining true city-states in the world and one of the most famous cities in Asia. It is the smallest nation in Southeast Asia that is made by many wonderful islands. Last summer, I and my friends decided to visit Singapore, the Lion Island. Singapore, a small island, lies at the southern and of West Malaysia. A long and narrow piece of land joins Singapore with Johore Hahru, the southern-most town of West Malaysia. Singapore is now an independent state. The city of Singapore is extremely beautiful. It is well known for its centers of business and other activities. There are many places of interest, such as, the Tiger Balm Garden, the Botanical Gardens and Raffles Museum. There are also many important centers of learning such as the University of Singapore, Science Centre, the Nanyang University and the Polytechnic. Being a famous city, hundreds of people come every day from various parts of the world to do business or to enjoy the sights of the city. Singapore therefore has large and beautiful airports and its harbors are full of ships. There are many night schools where people who cannot go to the day schools for some reason or other can continue their studies. And, the government of Singapore is still doing its best to make further improvements in the city for the benefit of the people. During my stay in Singapore, I went out every day with my friends to see the beautiful and interesting places and things in the city. One day we went to the Tiger Balm Garden where I saw several statues of people, animals and other strange creature beautifully made and kept. The sea near this garden makes it a pleasant place to visit. We spent almost half of the day at this place. Another day we visited the museum where I saw hundreds of curious things preserved for scholars and others. It was indeed an education to see all those things. There is so much to learn here that every visit by any person is sure to add to his knowledge. I also visited some of the harbors and saw the large ships anchored there. The sight of the ships aroused a desire in me to cross the oceans and go round the world. I was indeed deeply impressed by activities at the harbor. Then every night, I went round the town and visited some of the parks and other places of interest. The numerous lights and the constant stream of traffic kept the city alive. I visited a few of the cinemas as well. In short, I enjoyed every moment of my stay in this famous city of Singapore. This trip gave us some experiences about Singapore, a neighborhood of my country. I took many pictures everywhere I came. It is helpful for young people like me, who want to travel around the world to study more about the cultural of different countries.

Essay on “Holidaying in Singapore” for School, College Students, Long and Short Paragraph for Class 10, Class 12, College and Competitive Exams.

Holidaying in Singapore

  • My first trip abroad.
  • Visit to Cinemania
  • Visit to Ming village.
  • Visit to NTUC Lifestyle world.

My trip to Singapore was my first trip outside India. The people were charming and welcoming.

Our first visit was to ‘Cinemania’, Singapore’s simulation theatre. The theatre has an amazing sound system and a huge screen. Surround sound and computer synchronized motion seats combine with real wind to create an incredible ride.

Our next stop was the Ming village. It is known for its porcelain. We got to watch the craftsmen at work. Mom purchased a beautiful porcelain tea set.

In the evening we went to the NTUC Lifestyle world. This place had everything; food, drinks, shopping and entertainment. We visited the Escape Theme Park first and then took the Flute Ride and the 360-degree Cadbury Inverter. After that we decided to have dinner. Although we were spoilt for choice we selected Malay and had a sumptuous spread. I was so exhausted I couldn’t sleep that night. The next day, we did lots of shopping and the day after we returned. It was the most amazing holiday, I have ever had.

My Singapore Travel Experience

My Singapore Travel Experience

Travel makes you a storyteller. Every time you travel, you keep getting a premise to build a story on. Being in the tourism industry, I am fortunate to have travelled to a few places. Every time, each trip has given me memories to tell stories. In August of 2019, my friends, my sister and I decided to go to Singapore to take a break from our daily routine.

We started the planning to book our Singapore Tour Package . It was very shaky, uncertain. It came to a point where our trip almost didn't happen. But, determined and persistent, we kept planning. The plan was finally on. For some, it was the first-ever flight, whereas, for others, it was their first international flight. Personally, it was my second time travelling to Singapore. To say we were excited would have been an understatement.

The visa documentation, the bookings and reservations were all happening enthusiastically. The tour was for 5 Nights and 6 Days. We booked the flight tickets, accommodations, tickets for selective sightseeing in Singapore and did the visa procedure from Veena World. And the team gave us the best help. We were going to manage the internal travelling and the remaining sightseeing on our own on arrival in Singapore. And just like that, on August 21st 2019, we were on our way to the 'Lion City'.

Once we landed at the Singapore Changi airport, we went to the travel help desk to understand how things work and things to do in Singapore . They suggested we take the Singapore Tourist Pass, also known as the STP. The STP enabled us to use all public transport systems, including the bus and the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT). MRT is their underground train tube line that connects every corner of Singapore through a network.

Singapore at night

We were staying at a hotel on Rangoon Road near Little India. It was the best decision. Since we were close to Little India, we could easily access the MRT stations or buses and travel all through Singapore. And boy, did we make full use of it! We used to spend the whole day exploring and having fun. And even though it was a customized tour, and we were on our own, never once did we feel unsafe or uncomfortable. From strolling at the banks of the Singapore River eating the Bingsu (shaved ice with syrups on it), going on a heritage walking tour to Chinatown and visiting the only water well in Singapore, we did many offbeat activities. We used to plan the day to do the decided sightseeing and then later explore random places. One of the best experiences was watching the light-and-sound shows at the Marina Bay Waterfront, Gardens by the Bay and Sentosa Island, respectively. We also took a Bum Boat ride from Marina Bay Waterfront to Clarke Quay. Clarke Quay is one of the most happening places, especially if you love good food, good music and chilling by the riverfront. They also have some amazing Asian dishes from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and more. Honestly, the food in Singapore is so good, you just want to keep eating. As an amusement park lover, going to Universal Studios made me the happiest. The roller coasters, the food and the overall experience never fails to make me feel like I am at the top of the world. Speaking of the top of world experiences, Marina Bay Sands Sky Deck was one of the most memorable experiences. The Marina Bay Sands is an icon of Singapore. And going on its sky deck and getting a bird’s eye view of the stunning city was a surreal experience. To keep the spirits high, we also had the famous Singapore Sling. Even to this date, I sometimes reminisce about the wonderful experience and long to go back. We decided to stay on Sentosa Island for one night. And for the whole day, we went to do several activities like the Luge Ride, Cable Car Ride, exploring the Madame Tussauds Museum and more. The stay in Sentosa where our hotel was facing the beach and we got a beach view from our rooms is a picture I want to treasure forever.

Gardens by the Bay

I still remember the last evening that we had at Sentosa Island. We had just finished watching the spectacular light&sound show, had stuffed ourselves with delicious food (I had the best Korean Fried Chicken and Singaporean Curry) and were almost on the verge of sleeping. But since we didn't want the time to go to waste, we decided to take a stroll on the beach. It was probably one of the best evenings of my life. The beach was full of people yet somehow it didn't seem crowded. Since the weather was amazing, some people were having late-night picnics. And then there were some with their families and some were by themselves. There was music coming from some speakers at a distance, the refreshing breeze was blessing everyone after a hot day. I was surrounded by the chatter and laughter of my favourite people and also many strangers. It is a feeling that I could probably never describe in words but all I knew was at that moment, I was the happiest. I realised how wonderful travelling to different places is. How enriching it is to our soul. We were all unaware of the future, but we were all very hopeful about life always taking us on many such wonderful journeys.

Singapore Streets

During the walking tour, we literally walked ¼th of the city. Interacting with locals, getting to know their stories and experiences gave us insight like no other. One of our walking Singapore tour guides told us that she feels sad that Singaporeans are often perceived as rude people even when they are not. And I totally agreed with her. We had several experiences where the local people have been very sweet and helpful. They are passionate about their country and their culture. And I will forever be thankful for those people who made the holiday more memorable than we ever expected.

The return was with a heavy heart! But Singapore being the generous host it is, did not let us go without showing us one of the most breathtaking sites - The Jewel Waterfall at Changi Airport. For probably the billionth time, I was awed by the beauty of this jewel. There is so much to speak about this holiday and fitting it in just one blog is not possible. Maybe one day, I will be able to do it!

Jewel Changi

A part of my heart will always be in Singapore. In just 2 different trips to this Garden City, I saw such varied sides of it. And for this wholesome experience, I will always be grateful! Singapore is a place that stays with you long after you have returned home. I like to say that even after you leave Singapore, Singapore never leaves you.

  • Our Family Vacation In Singapore Was An Adventure Packed Thrill-Ride!

27 Mar 2023

On a 6 nights/7 days family vacation in Singapore, Harsh and his family marveled at the spectacular sights and sounds the tiny island nation had to offer. From futuristic entertainment parks to nature-loving gardens, their incredible journey had plenty to feel ecstatic about.

Since my family and I get to travel only once a year, I had to make sure of leaving no stones unturned for our vacation. In the recent past, we had been to a beach destination and a hill station. Therefore this time, we wanted to explore something more modern, entertaining, and luxurious.

That left us with two options- Singapore and Dubai. On asking our friends, we got an overwhelming response for a family vacation in Singapore. A week-long trip looked like a sufficient timeframe to fully enjoy all the sightseeing there are to see.

Day 2: Adventure Safaris of all kind!

The second day of our family vacation in Singapore started with sightseeing at 9 am. After having quick breakfast, the first place we visited was the Singapore Zoo. Witnessing the Polar Bear at the Singapore Zoo was one remarkable experience. We followed that with visiting the River Safari at 4 pm and the night safari at 8 pm. It felt incredible and thrilling going into the jungle at night when the animals have their hunting instincts at their peak.

Afterwards, we proceeded for dinner at a restaurant near our hotel. Despite being vegetarian, it was easy to find good food to eat. This was another reason why we opted for a hotel near Little India so that every night we could eat dinner outside without having to struggle much.

Day 3: Incredible sightseeing at Sentosa Island

The next morning, post breakfast, we started for our sightseeing tour of Sentosa Island. During the day, we covered incredible places like Butterfly Park and the Insect Kingdom, S.E.A. Aquarium , Madame Tussauds, Images of Singapore, and Wings of Time.

With so many amazing sightseeing places, Sentosa Island felt like a shopping mall of attractions where we saw some incredible place to visit at every step of our way. After ending sightseeing on the third day of our family vacation in Singapore, we returned to the hotel for the night.

Day 4: Universal Studios- The land of dreams!

This day, after breakfast, we began for our Universal Studios Singapore to Sentosa Island. The only positive about having to travel daily to Sentosa was the Cable Car ride we took from Mount Faber in Singapore. The breathtaking views had us in awe and amazement.

Universal Studios is a place I didn’t feel like going out of. There are so many fascinating rides and so much to do that an entire day just went by like a flash. Battlestar Galactica, The Revenge of the Mummy and Transformers were the rides we enjoyed the most. Out of all the zones, the Sci-Fi Zone is one place that must not be missed.

Finally, we saw an incredible 4-D show in the evening at Far Far Away Castle. I have seen a few 4-D shows back in India, but those were not even close to this one in terms of quality. After a wonderful day at Universal Studios, we returned to the hotel at 10 pm for the night.

Day 5: The traditional sightseeing in Singapore

After having a delicious breakfast, we started with our half-day city tour of Singapore. During the day we visited places like Singapore Flyer, Merlion Statue and Park, Fountain of Wealth, and Orchard Road.

After the sightseeing tour, we checked out from Parc Sovereign Hotel and moved to the Village Hotel Albert Court which was just across the street. Our hotel change was preplanned and it just happened because we thought that staying at the same hotel for 7 days would be boring. Around 4.30 pm we got ready for a visit to the Gardens by the Bay- a huge 250-acre theme park dedicated to all kinds of plants and trees. Over there, we found the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome as the best attractions in the nature park.

Day 6&7: Stories of science and incredible birds

This day wasn’t planned for us, so we decided to visit the Science Center Singapore by ourselves. Being a doctor, this place was even more fascinating for me as they explained the formation of life right from a single cell to a celestial object as big as our planet Earth. Afterwards, we visited Chinatown around 3 pm to buy some souvenirs and gift items for our friends and family.

The final day of our family vacation in Singapore started with sightseeing at Jurong Bird Park. It was a really enjoyable experience and I would’ve preferred a full-day tour of the same. However, since our flight was supposed to leave at 10 pm, we left Jurong Bird Park around 3 pm to pack our bags and check out from the hotel.

At first, I wasn’t sure if 7 days for a family vacation in Singapore would be too much. However, I was pleasantly surprised as we spent each and every day totally engrossed in the natural and man-made wonders Singapore. A city that is well ahead of our time with a futuristic vision, unlike any other destination I’ve seen before.

Best Experiences For Couples On A Trip To Singapore

High points:

  • S.E.A. Aquarium and Wings of Time were the best attractions we visited on Sentosa Island.
  • My daughter simply loved the visit to Jurong Bird Park more than anything else.
  • Despite so much traffic, it was nice to see that every driver followed the traffic rules very seriously.

Low points:

  • The third and the fourth days were spent sightseeing at Sentosa Island. TravelTriangle could have arranged a stay in Sentosa for the third night in order to avoid the daily commute from Singapore to Sentosa Island.
  • Butterfly and Insect Kingdom could’ve been excluded from the itinerary as we found that place to have nothing special.

A modern mecca of innovations and endless possibilities awaits you. Book your Singapore family package and take holidaying to another level!

my holiday trip to singapore essay

Sustainable Travel, Sustainable Lifestyle

My Dream Trip to Singapore..

After overdoing the  New Year trip to Goa , I had pledged to limit all future trips for this year. But as they say, “A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.” 🙂

I am traveler at heart and reveler by choice. So when I saw pics of my friend’s recent trip to Singapore, the Columbus in me bounced back.

That night I saw a dream about winning a jackpot of Rs. 1 Lakh. I had always wanted to go on a holiday to Singapore with my dear husband and this jackpot gave  us the apt chance.

My husband and I were elated & excited to go on this trip after so many months. As we were traveling to Singapore for the first time, we wanted to travel safe & wished to  #travelsmart. As regular travelers, we never prefer packaged tours for travelling to new destinations. So for us, to travel is like a dream, but to plan it is a nightmare. We were worried about the flight & hotel bookings since we need to check many websites before finalizing these and booking. Sometimes it also happens that till the time we narrow down to the best option available, the flight or hotel is already booked. 🙁

This is when a genius travel wizard, ‘Skyscanner’ almost magically came to our rescue out from internet. He told us that he knew about the best air ticket prices for travelling there and return. He pulled out his laptop and almost instantly showed 265 flight results with the most affordable rates at the top. Through this we easily booked our return flight  tickets from Delhi at just Rs. 27075 per person.

Then he asked us where we would be living in Singapore for which we had no answer. He offered his help in this too. He started to ask us few basic questions about our hotel preference. Whether we wanted to have a five star, four star or a three star hotel accommodation? At what location we wanted the hotel to be situated, other facilities etc.? We gladly replied to all queries of this fairy Godmother in disguise. He then showed us the brightest of the hotels fitting in our budget and preferences with complete details like customer reviews, photos, ratings etc. He asked us to make sure everything was as per our choice which we agreed upon. He navigated to a site where we easily booked the hotel room for six days in a meager amount of Rs. 34776.

We both were so glad that due to ‘Skyscanner’, our travel wizard friend, out of the one lakh rupees I had won, we had managed to save some bit of money too!

He came to drop us at airport but then it was time for us to say good bye to him and proceed for our holiday.

Sitting inside the aeroplane, me and my husband spoke about why Singapore was our holiday pick. I replied to him that “Singapore is an  awe-inspiring city which is multi-cultural and is a foodie’s paradise”. But actually the thing that made my heart skip a beat about this cosmopolitan city was its “Never Sleeping” lifestyle. I wouldn’t tell this to my husband as he hated missing his sleep. 🙂

It was a picturesque flight with some great views of the pristine blue water and small islands. We visited  a lot of amazing places in this trip of ours.  We visited Marina Bay Sands, the iconic Singaporean statue of Merlion and Singapore Flyer that gives a 360 degree view of Singapore. For fun activities we visited Resort World Sentosa, Universal Studios, Marine Life park and Jurong Bird Park.

Shopping for me has always been a pleasure and pain for my husband. So in Singapore we experienced mixed feeling. 😉 In this sweet little destination dream of mine I shopped a lot from China town, Little India & few malls also.

Lastly it was time for us to leave this beautiful Little Red Dot and come back home. I remembered and once again thanked my magical travel wizard friend, ‘Skyscanner’ for the amazing flight bookings and comfortable hotel bookings without which our trip could have easily been spoiled.

When I woke up in the mornings I was happy thinking of the fabulous travel dream trip and narrated it to my husband. Then silently made a wish, if only I could fulfill this list. Skyscanner my magical friend, if only you were truly there, then take me there, take me there!

Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

Narrative Essay on How I spent my holiday

Narrative essay generator.

Holidays hold a special place in everyone’s life, offering a respite from the routine of daily tasks and providing an opportunity to explore, relax, and create unforgettable memories. This year, I decided to spend my holiday in a way that was both enriching and exhilarating. I ventured on a journey to a small coastal town, renowned for its pristine beaches, rich culture, and vibrant local life. This narrative essay unfolds the experiences, discoveries, and personal growth I encountered during my holiday.

The Journey Begins

My adventure commenced with the excitement of traveling to a place I had never visited before. The anticipation built up as I packed my bags, ensuring I had everything needed for a week of exploration. The journey to the coastal town was a scenic delight, with winding roads flanked by lush greenery and the occasional glimpse of the ocean’s horizon promising a serene escape.

Exploring the Coastal Town

Upon arrival, the beauty of the town exceeded my expectations. The air was filled with the salty breeze of the sea and the streets buzzed with the energy of daily life. My first day was spent wandering through the town, taking in the sights and sounds. I visited local markets, where I marveled at the craftsmanship of the artisans and indulged in the town’s culinary delights, tasting dishes that were a fusion of traditional recipes and the bounty of the sea.

The Heart of Nature

The following days were dedicated to exploring the natural wonders surrounding the town. I embarked on hikes through nearby trails, each revealing breathtaking views of the landscape. The highlight was a trek to a secluded beach, accessible only by a narrow path through the cliffs. The effort was rewarded with a serene beach, untouched by the hustle and bustle of tourist spots. Here, I spent hours swimming in the clear waters, reading under the shade of palm trees, and reflecting on the simple pleasures of life.

Cultural Immersion

My holiday was not just about relaxation but also about immersing myself in the local culture. I attended a traditional dance performance, where the rhythmic beats and expressive movements of the dancers told stories of the town’s history and folklore. I also participated in a cooking class, learning to prepare local dishes that combined fresh seafood with exotic spices, gaining not only culinary skills but also insights into the lifestyle and traditions of the people.

The Bond of Friendship

One of the most unexpected and rewarding aspects of my holiday was the friendships I formed. Whether it was conversations with local residents, sharing stories with fellow travelers, or the camaraderie with the host of my accommodation, these connections added depth to my experience. Through these interactions, I gained a richer understanding of the world from different perspectives, reminding me of the value of openness and the universal language of kindness.

Reflections and Realizations

As my holiday drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the journey. Beyond the relaxation and enjoyment, it was a period of personal growth and learning. I had stepped out of my comfort zone, challenged myself to try new things, and embraced the unfamiliar. This holiday taught me the importance of slowing down, appreciating the moment, and the joy of discovering new places and cultures.

My holiday in the coastal town was more than just a break from routine; it was a journey of discovery, connection, and personal growth. It reminded me of the beauty of our world, the diversity of its people, and the shared experiences that bind us. As I returned home, I brought back not only souvenirs and photographs but memories that will last a lifetime and a renewed sense of adventure, ready to explore what lies beyond the horizon.

Tips for Writing a "What I Did on Vacation" Essay

  • Writing Essays
  • Writing Research Papers
  • English Grammar
  • M.Ed., Education Administration, University of Georgia
  • B.A., History, Armstrong State University

Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

Summer Job Essay Topic Ideas

Not everyone gets to spend the summer having fun; some of us have to work for a living. If you spent your summer at a job, chances are you met a lot of interesting characters, dealt with complicated situations, or even saved the day once or twice. Here are some ideas for summer job topics:

  • The Boss's Day Off
  • The Customer From Hell
  • What I Learned from My Customers
  • Why I'll Never Go Into the ___ Business
  • Six Things I Learned on the Job

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

It's weird how August has been one of my favourite months in the year 2013 (and it isn't even my birthday month!); it's because of the holidays of course! With holidays, come opportunities to travel and well, who doesn't like travel?

Though, St.August and his holidays have blessed us and gone, there are still more holidays to come, so start planning! I was thinking...Singapore (that’s where I was holidaying in August)…..

This beautiful island country in South East Asia has something to offer to everyone. A trip to Singapore guarantees a whole lot of fun and most importantly a unique experience! Here are a few places that will make your trip a memorable one -

For Thy Amusement

Universal Studios, Resorts World Sentosa, Sentosa – They call it ‘one of a kind theme park in Asia’ and they’re absolutely right! With seven different theme zones surrounding a lagoon, you’ve got shopping, delicious food, movies and some crazy roller coasters and rides (I could spend an entire day here!).

Attend the ‘Hollywood Dreams Parade’, eat at KT Grill in the New York zone or head to fairy god mother’s potion shop in ‘Far far away’; its all here!

Note to self; Do not eat before going on the ‘Jurassic Park rapids Adventure’.

singapore amusement park

Singapore Zoo, Mandai – Called the Mandai Zoo, this exhibit has kangaroos and lemurs, flamingoes and polar Bears, all in spacious enclosures. The zoo also organises animal shows that are a delight to watch! With ‘Breakfast with Orangutan’, one can interact with orangutans. ‘Splash safari’ showcases seals and sea lions performing tricks, pelicans catching fish. ‘The Animal Friends’’ shows dogs and parrots up to their usual antics.

singapore zoo

Night Safari, Mandai - The world’s first nocturnal zoo, it is an open air zoo mimicking a humid tropical rainforest. It opens only at night. One can explore the area, either by foot or by tram. From rhinoceros to tarsiers, discover these rare, almost magical creatures! Later, you could dine on the move with the Cocktail Safari Express and Gourmet Safari Express. You might even get the chance to watch the zesty tribal dances and fire eating acts!

Note to self; Hold mummy’s hand while walking in the night safari; there’s nothing scarier than a walk in the ‘rainforest’ at night.

singapore night safari

Orchard Road, Singapore – It’s true, not shopping at all when on a vacation almost qualifies as a sin! So head to Orchard Road, Singapore’s answer to all things chic, expensive and international!

Note to self; Do not carry all the money here; high chances of returning home with none….

Breathe In Some Art, History And Culture

Maritime Experiential Museum and Aquarium (MEMA), Resorts World Sentosa – This museum promises to take you back to a different era!  Learn about the reconstruction and historic voyage of the Jewel of Muscat or take a stroll in the ancient markets at the ports along the Silk Route. With life sized replicas of famous people from our history books, one is truly transported back in time!

Note to self; History could not get any more fun! Plan a visit here for certain, and try to learn as you explore. Nothing better than getting to know more about ‘how it all began’...

Chinatown, Singapore - It’s the ethnic neighborhood, having distinct elements of the Chinese culture.  Composed of various precincts, a trip to china town is pleasing to the palate as well as the eyes with the astonishingly beautiful mix of baroque and Victorian architecture.

Note to self; Eat fishball noodles and Char Kway Yeow

Little India - Across from  Chinatown , located west of the Singapore river, is ‘Tekka’, a neighborhood where the majority of the residents are Tamil. The main area of attraction here would be the many Hindu Temples and mosques.   Sri Vadapathira Kaliamman Temple , Jalan Mosque, and the Central  Sikh   Gurdwara are the well known ones here.

Note to self; Shop from the Indian Arcade here for some cross cultural items ( mix of Singaporean and Indian) and well, when in Little India, no harm in having some spicy curry!

Explore and More…

Mount Faber – Accessible by road and with several footpaths leading up to the summit, Mount Faber is quite the tourist spot in the central region of Singapore. A hill of about 345 feet, the hill summit provides a panoramic view of the harbour front.

Note to self; Carry camera!

River Cruise - The cruise begins where Sir Stamford Raffles first stepped foot on Singapore and travels along the different quays of Singapore; namely the Boat Quay, Clark Quay and Marina Bay. Discover the contrast between the rich, ancient architecture and the modern skyscrapers and the exquisite bridges- including the Cavenaugh Bridge and the Anderson Bridge.

Note to self; Keep eyes open for historical landmarks such as The Merlion, the Raffles Landing Site and the Esplande!

From trips to learning new hobbies and visiting grandparents to playing sports, kids have so much to share. It will be a good writing exercise for kids as they write an essay on their holiday fun.

All kids love to talk about how they spent or will be spending their holidays. However, they may struggle with how to write an essay on their holiday. Here are some key points to make it easier to write an essay on holiday:

  • Give a brief introduction about holidays.
  • State the importance of holidays.
  • Write what all things or activities the kid will or can do in the holidays.
  • Write about all the fun they’ve had during the holidays.
  • Conclude briefly by expressing joy for the holidays.

Writing an essay for classes 1 and 2 on the holidays may sometimes be a bit of a struggle. Here are 10 lines to help kids write:

  • Holidays are the happiest time for everybody, especially students.
  • Students get a break from their regular school hours.
  • Holidays are a time when they can pursue hobbies, learn new sports and relax.
  • They also spend more hours playing with their friends.
  • We visit our grandparent’s or relatives’ homes during holidays.
  • We have a lot of fun at our grandparent’s or relatives’ home, since we eat delicious food and have our cousins over.
  • Some families go for trips to hill stations or beaches.
  • Students also complete their school assignments during holidays.
  • Some students go for extra classes to do better in academics.
  • Holidays are the time to enjoy, relax, learn good things, and cherish good times with close family members.

Holidays are the most joyous time for every student. Let’s relive the joy through this short paragraph:

Everyone loves holidays, whether they are for one day or one month! Students especially look forward to their annual school vacation. They love that they don’t need to get up early for school and can get extra sleep hours. It’s a healthy break from a routine. Kids plan so many things for their holidays; some want to spend it with their cousins in their grandparent’s or relatives’ house. Some plan for a family holiday where they visit and explore new places. It is also a good time to learn new things or pursue new hobbies. Holidays are magical days full of fun and enjoyment.

Kids love to talk about their holidays. Therefore, writing a holiday essay for classes 1, 2 and 3 kids is a joy. Here is a short essay on holidays for children:

Routine life is boring, especially for kids. Holiday is the magic word that gives them a break from their school routine. Whether it’s a short break or the annual holidays, every student eagerly waits for them. Holidays are the time when they can sleep late, wake up late and spend hours playing. Parents won’t rush them to complete homework. Nor would their parents stop them from playing extra hours. Some kids even invite their friends for sleepovers or movie nights. Most kids don’t get enough time to learn new sports or hobbies during school days. So, the holidays are the perfect time to learn how to play the guitar or go swimming or even join that reading club. Most families plan a get-together during long holidays. It is the time to visit new places and enjoy yourself with family. Holidays give us a break from everyday life to relax and rejuvenate.

Here is a long holiday essay for class 3 students. Kids can read and learn from it to write a long essay on holidays for their school assignments.

One thing that never fails to make us smile is the word holiday. Whether we are young or old, we all look forward to holidays. They are the perfect time to relax and take a break from our daily routine. Our days of leisure, are the most important and memorable days of our lives. Let’s understand how important are holidays and ways to enjoy them the most.

Importance of Holiday For Students And Working People

Everyone loves holidays. However, they hold a different level of importance for different people. For students, holidays are the time when they can do extra things apart from their studies. In their daily school lives, students don’t get much time to pursue their hobbies or interests. During holidays, they can explore a new interest or get themselves enrolled to learn new sports. Trying new things is important for a kid’s overall development. Kids also get more time to spend with their families and friends. So, holidays give them the perfect opportunity to do things they cannot do during school days.

Working people equally love holidays as young kids. Their long working hours and hectic lifestyle don’t leave them much time to relax or enjoy their hobbies. So, during the holidays, they relax and rejuvenate. They sleep in late, wake up late and enjoy the whole day with the family. During holidays, they can go on trips with family or friends to rejuvenate.

How To Make The Most Of Your Holidays

To fully utilise the holidays, one should list what they want to do or don’t get to do on their normal days. It could be spending time with friends, learning a new hobby, or sleeping late. Then, as per the time and number of days, start ticking things off the list. A new hobby or sport can be learned if you have long holidays. For a short holiday of a few days, a family trip can be planned. Just remember your holidays are the time to enjoy, relax and have lots of fun.

An essay on ‘holiday’ is a great way to teach your child the importance of relaxing, unwinding and doing better in our lives. Through this essay, they will also learn about various things they can do during holidays. While writing an essay on holidays, kids will learn the value of playing sports and learning new hobbies to become active and smart.

Some noteworthy points about holidays:

1. Why Is A Holiday Important?

Holidays are important as they give us time to relax and rejuvenate. During holidays we get more time with our near ones and can pursue our hobbies.

2. How One Can Spend His/Her Holiday?

One can spend their holidays in numerous ways. They can pursue their hobbies, learn new interests like singing, dancing, sports or arts, spend time with friends or go on a trip. The list is endless.

Holidays are best enjoyed when they are spent doing things we like or with people we love. They are the ideal time to learn or do extra activities, spend time with family and relax. Writing an essay on holidays will allow kids to explore their thoughts and desires related to this beautiful topic.

Essay on My Summer Holiday

Students are often asked to write an essay on My Summer Holiday in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on My Summer Holiday

Introduction to my summer holiday.

My summer holiday was a time of joy and fun. I spent two whole months away from school, enjoying the warm weather and free time. This essay will share the best parts of my vacation.

Playing with Friends

During the holiday, I played a lot with my friends. We rode bikes, played soccer, and had picnics in the park. It was great to spend so much time outside.

Family Trip

My family went on a trip to the beach. The sand was hot, and the ocean was cool. We built sandcastles, swam, and ate ice cream. It was a happy time with my family.

Learning Something New

I also learned to fish. My grandpa taught me, and I caught my first fish! It was exciting and something I’ll always remember from this summer.

In conclusion, my summer holiday was full of adventure, family, and new experiences. It was a break I cherished and will look back on with a smile.

250 Words Essay on My Summer Holiday

My summer holiday was a time filled with joy and new experiences. As the school year ended, I felt a wave of excitement thinking about the days ahead without homework or tests.

Visiting My Grandparents

The first part of my vacation was spent at my grandparents’ house in the countryside. Their home is surrounded by green fields and tall trees. Every morning, I would wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of fresh pancakes made by my grandma. I helped my grandpa in the garden, and we would pick ripe fruits and vegetables.

Learning to Swim

During my stay, I also learned to swim. My uncle took me to a nearby lake where the water was clear and cool. At first, I was scared, but with practice, I started to enjoy moving through the water. By the end of my visit, I could swim across the lake without stopping.

Fun with Friends

When I returned home, I spent lots of time with my friends. We rode our bikes, played soccer in the park, and had picnics with sandwiches and lemonade. Laughing and running around made the days fly by.

Reading Adventures

I also read many books, which took me on adventures without leaving my room. I discovered magical lands, solved mysteries, and met interesting characters. Reading before bed became my favorite part of the day.

My summer holiday was a mix of outdoor fun, learning new things, and enjoying quiet moments. It was a break from school that gave me happy memories to keep me smiling through the year.

500 Words Essay on My Summer Holiday

Summer holidays are the best part of the year for every student. It is a time when school is out, the sun is shining, and there are no homework or tests to worry about. I always look forward to summer because it means I can relax and do all the fun things I’ve been dreaming about during the school year.

Planning for the Vacation

Before the summer began, my family and I sat down to plan what we would do. We decided to visit my grandparents who live in a small village by the sea. I was excited because I love the beach and I don’t get to see my grandparents very often. We packed our bags with summer clothes, swimming suits, and games to play with my cousins.

Traveling to the Village

The journey to the village was long, but it was worth it. We traveled by car, and I could see the landscape changing as we moved from the busy city to the quiet countryside. The fields were green and full of flowers, and I could feel the fresh air through the car window.

Days at the Beach

Most of my summer days were spent at the beach. The sand was hot under my feet, and the sea was cool and refreshing. I built sandcastles, collected shells, and learned to swim better. My family would often have picnics on the beach, and I loved eating sandwiches and fruit while listening to the sound of the waves.

Time with Grandparents

Staying with my grandparents was special. They have a small farm with animals that I don’t usually see in the city. I helped them collect eggs from the chickens and feed the goats. My grandmother taught me how to bake bread, and my grandfather told me stories from when he was a boy. These are memories I will always cherish.

Learning New Things

Summer is not just for play; I also used the time to learn new things. I read books that I had no time to read during school days. I also started learning how to play the guitar. It was hard at first, but I practiced every day, and by the end of the summer, I could play a few songs.

Friendship and Fun

I made new friends during the holiday. Some were from the village, and others were visiting like me. We played soccer, went fishing, and explored the woods near the beach. We shared stories and laughed a lot. These friendships made my summer even more enjoyable.

Conclusion: The End of Summer

As the summer ended, I felt both happy and sad. I was excited to go back to school and see my friends, but I knew I would miss the beach, my grandparents, and the carefree days of summer. However, I returned home with a heart full of joy, a mind full of new knowledge, and a promise to myself to make the next summer holiday just as amazing. Summer holidays are a magical time, and I can’t wait for the next one!

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Narrative Essay: My Trip to South Korea

I had always wanted to visit South Korea and I recently had the chance to spend a week in this amazing country. Unlike its northern neighbor which is pretty much closed to visitors, South Korea is a welcoming and hospitable country. It is an interesting place with a unique culture and a highly developing economy.

I flew into the capital Seoul. On arrival in the city, it was the marked contrast between modern skyscrapers and high design shopping malls and shanty towns that was immediately striking. Wide streets lined by fancy boutiques lead to a labyrinth of narrow alleyways with tiny traditional shops and eateries and there is a clutch of great tourist attractions.

My tour itinerary began on Seoul’s main boulevard, Sejongro, because I wanted to see the Royal Palace (Gyeongbok), the President’s residence, known as Cheongwadae or the Blue House, and the American Embassy. From here it’s a fairly short walk to Bukchon where there is the city’s largest collection of privately owned traditional wooden houses. It’s a charm with beautiful architecture and small courtyards, with the houses interspersed with quaint cafes and art galleries.

Taking the same route the next day, I took a trip into the mountains that peak behind the President’s House, and climbed the one known as Bugaksan. This affords the opportunity to pass through the Sukjeongmun Gate and through the city’s ancient fortress wall. From here the Seoul Fortress is easily accessible and there are also amazing views of Seoul.

Shopping in the Orient is an amazing experience so I made sure to pay a visit to the Shinsegae downtown department store. This huge emporium sells probably everything you can imagine and is a complete charm in the way the bottom floors sell all the basic staples of daily life – including the ubiquitous kimchee (fermented cabbage) and are frequented by Korean housewives while the upper floors cater to the well-heeled and brand conscious. As fascinating as it is, the new rooftop garden is a welcome respite. But, if you are going to shop in Seoul, it’s a must to visit the street stalls and hawkers of the Namdaemum Market where the wares seem to be spread out in a blanket of never-ending stalls. Be prepared to be seriously jostled by the crowds, but it’s also the chance to feast on the best street food.

One of the most surprising sights and a rue delight is the Cheonggyecheon Stream. Running for just under 4 miles through the city, the stream is remarkably quiet given its location, because it is 15 foot below street level. The serene setting, accentuated by waterfalls and bridge is a favorite strolling spot for romantic couples.

With a flying visit to Itaewon, the popular ex-pat neighborhood near to the main US army base, my time in Seoul came to an end. I was enthralled and captivated and hope I get to return one day.
