In 2013, UPSC changed the syllabus-pattern of Mains examination and the number of general studies papers were increased from two to four. Out of them, GS Paper-I deals with History, Culture, Society and Geography. Overall breakup looks like this

GS1 Syllabus Topic: Salient aspects of Art, Architecture, literature from Ancient to Modern Times

How will you explain that medieval Indian temple sculptures represent the social life of those days ? (स्पष्ट करें कि मध्यकालीन भारतीय मंदिरों की मूर्तिकला उस दौर के सामाजिक जीवन का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है। )

Tips for UPSC Essay Paper from ClearIAS.com

Do keep in mind the below-mentioned tips. Following these strategies can make a huge boost in your Essay Paper marks .

• Try to write a few essays in full during your preparation, simulating the environment in the examination hall.
• Familiarize yourself with previous essays asked by UPSC so that you will have a clear picture of the type and standard of questions to be expected.
• UPSC/the examiner normally gives credit to new perspectives and fresh analysis.
• Avoid verbosity and flowery language. Use a simple style instead.
• You may use relevant quotes to reinforce your arguments. But never try to alter the quotes of great personalities.
• Good handwriting is always an asset. If your handwriting is not legible, put some effort into that area.
• Make your statements precise. Avoid guesses.
• The introductory paragraph should have clear indications about what you are going to write in the essay.

यूपीएससी पाठ्यक्रम सामान्य अध्ययन 1 (GS-1)

UPSC CSE प्रीलिम्स सिलेबस के सामान्य अध्ययन 1 में मुख्य रूप से इतिहास, भूगोल, राजनीति, अर्थव्यवस्था, पर्यावरण और पारिस्थितिकी, विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी, सामान्य विज्ञान और करंट अफेयर्स आधारित कार्यक्रम शामिल हैं। यूपीएससी सामान्य अध्ययन प्रारंभिक पेपर 1 पाठ्यक्रम को निम्नलिखित व्यापक श्रेणियों में वर्गीकृत करता है:

यूपीएससी सिलेबस मुख्य भाषा पेपर

इन प्रश्न पत्रों का उद्देश्य गंभीर गद्य को पढ़ने और समझने के साथ-साथ प्रासंगिक भारतीय और अंग्रेजी भाषाओं में स्पष्ट और सटीक तरीके से विचारों को व्यक्त करने के लिए उम्मीदवार की योग्यता का मूल्यांकन करना है। इन पेपरों में प्राप्त अंकों का उपयोग रैंक निर्धारित करने के लिए नहीं किया जाएगा। ये पेपर केवल क्वालिफाइंग नेचर के हैं (प्रत्येक पेपर में न्यूनतम 25% अंक)।

इस UPSC Mains भारतीय भाषा के पेपर में प्रमुख विषयों को शामिल किया गया है जैसे की कॉम्प्रिहेंशन पैसेज, संक्षेपण, सटीक लेखन, शब्द प्रयोग, शब्द भंडार और शब्दावली, लघु निबंध, अंग्रेजी से भारतीय भाषा में अनुवाद और भारतीय भाषा से अंग्रेजी में अनुवाद।

यूपीएससी पाठ्यक्रम मुख्य: अंग्रेजी पेपर

UPSC सिलेबस मेन्स इंग्लिश पेपर: अंग्रेजी का पेपर भी एक क्वालिफाइंग पेपर होता है जिसमें मुख्य रूप से कॉम्प्रिहेंशन पैसेज, संक्षेपण, सटीक लेखन, शब्द प्रयोग, शब्द भंडार और शब्दावली, लघु निबंध शामिल होते हैं।

उम्मीदवारों से विभिन्न विषयों पर निबंध पूछे जाएंगे और उनसे अपने विचारों को व्यवस्थित करने कीअपेक्षा की जाएगी। निबंध उन पेपरों में से एक है जहां उम्मीदवार बेहतर स्कोर कर सकते हैं और सावधानीपूर्वक अपनी रैंक में सुधार कर सकते हैं। निबंध के पेपर को दो खंडों में विभाजित किया गया है और प्रत्येक खंड में 4 विषय हैं। निबंध पेपर कुल 250 अंको का होता है जिनमे से प्रत्येक निबंध 125 अंक का होता है।

UPSC पाठ्यक्रम वैकल्पिक विषय: पेपर 6 और पेपर 7 वैकल्पिक विषय के पेपर हैं जो अनिवार्य पेपर होते हैं। ये पेपर उन पेपरों में से एक हैं जिनमें उम्मीदवार अच्छे अंक प्राप्त कर सकते हैं क्योंकि ज्यादातर मामलों में ये विषय या तो स्नातक विषय होते हैं या उम्मीदवारों के रुचि क्षेत्र के विषय होते हैं।

UPSC 2021 Syllabus in Hindi: Syllabus for Hindi Compulsory Paper and Optional

UPSC believes in breaking the linguistic barriers and at the same time celebrates India’s inherent diversity. Candidates can choose to give their exams in any of the Indian languages that are part of the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India apart from English. Many candidates choose to give their exams in Hindi. With the net year approaching aspirants have started to prepare for UPSC 2021. The UPSC Prelims Syllabus and UPSC Mains Syllabus 2021 is out now.

UPSC IAS Syllabus for 2021

The syllabus whether it be in whatever language always remains the same. The UPSC question paper provides the questions in both English and Hindi and the students can use whatever medium they wish to utilize. The only difference would be in the syllabus of the compulsory paper and the optional paper if the candidate chooses Hindi Literature as their optional subject.

Hindi Language Paper Syllabus

• Nibandh: Hindi Essay: 2 essays (no choice in the topics) each for 50 marks totalling 100 marks.
• Gadyansh: Reading comprehension: 12 passages each for 5 marks totalling 60 marks.
• Sankshepan: Précis writing: Here you have to condense a piece of prose given, for 60 marks.
• Anuvad: Translation: From English to Hindi (20 marks) and Hindi to English (20 marks) totalling 40 marks.
• 10 marks questions: Muhavare; Shudhi; Paryayavachi; Yugm (totalling 40 marks)

• Bachelor's degree from any recognised college.
• Age between 21-32; with some relaxation for reserved categories.
• Citizen of India ora subject of Nepal/ Bhutan or Tibetan refugee who came to India, to permanently settle here before January 1, 1962, or People of Indian origin who migrated from Uganda, Burma, Pakistan, Zambia, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.

Read the complete UPSC CSE Mains Indian Language Hindi syllabus paper 1 and 2 in English. The qualifying paper on Indian Languages will be of Matriculation or equivalent standard. In IAS Mains Indian Languages, The marks obtained in this paper will not be counted for ranking. The aim of the Indian Languages paper is to test the candidates’ ability to read and understand serious discursive prose and to express his clearly and correctly, in English and Indian Language concerned. In Optional Languages the Minimum marks needed is 30%. (Union Public Service Commission Commonly Known as UPSC says, the papers of Essay, General Studies GS and Optional Subject of only such candidates will be taken cognizance who attain 30% marks in Indian Language and 25% marks in English as minimum qualifying standards in these qualifying papers.)

• Grammatical and applied forms of Apbhransh, Awahatta & Arambhik Hindi. II. Development of Braj and Awadhi as Literary language during the medieval period. III. The early form of Khari-boli in Siddha-Nath Sahitya, Khusero, Sant Sahitya, Rahim etc. and Dakhni Hindi. IV. Development of Khari-boli and Nagari Lipi during 19th Century. V. Standardisation of Hindi Bhasha & Nagari Lipi. VI. Development of Hindi as a National Language during the freedom movement. VII. The development of Hindi as a National Language of Union of India. यूपीएससी पाठ्यक्रम सामान्य अध्ययन 1 (GS-1)

यूपीएससी सिलेबस 2023 मुख्य परीक्षा

यूपीएससी सिलेबस मुख्य भाषा पेपर

इन प्रश्न पत्रों का उद्देश्य गंभीर गद्य को पढ़ने और समझने के साथ-साथ प्रासंगिक भारतीय और अंग्रेजी भाषाओं में स्पष्ट और सटीक तरीके से विचारों को व्यक्त करने के लिए उम्मीदवार की योग्यता का मूल्यांकन करना है। इन पेपरों में प्राप्त अंकों का उपयोग रैंक निर्धारित करने के लिए नहीं किया जाएगा। ये पेपर केवल क्वालिफाइंग नेचर के हैं (प्रत्येक पेपर में न्यूनतम 25% अंक)।

UPSC सिलेबस मेन्स इंग्लिश पेपर: अंग्रेजी का पेपर भी एक क्वालिफाइंग पेपर होता है जिसमें मुख्य रूप से कॉम्प्रिहेंशन पैसेज, संक्षेपण, सटीक लेखन, शब्द प्रयोग, शब्द भंडार और शब्दावली, लघु निबंध शामिल होते हैं।

यूपीएससी मुख्य पाठ्यक्रम निबंध पेपर

उम्मीदवारों से विभिन्न विषयों पर निबंध पूछे जाएंगे और उनसे अपने विचारों को व्यवस्थित करने कीअपेक्षा की जाएगी। निबंध उन पेपरों में से एक है जहां उम्मीदवार बेहतर स्कोर कर सकते हैं और सावधानीपूर्वक अपनी रैंक में सुधार कर सकते हैं। निबंध के पेपर को दो खंडों में विभाजित किया गया है और प्रत्येक खंड में 4 विषय हैं। निबंध पेपर कुल 250 अंको का होता है जिनमे से प्रत्येक निबंध 125 अंक का होता है।

यूपीएससी मेन्स पाठ्यक्रम सामान्य अध्ययन

UPSC पाठ्यक्रम वैकल्पिक विषय: पेपर 6 और पेपर 7 वैकल्पिक विषय के पेपर हैं जो अनिवार्य पेपर होते हैं। ये पेपर उन पेपरों में से एक हैं जिनमें उम्मीदवार अच्छे अंक प्राप्त कर सकते हैं क्योंकि ज्यादातर मामलों में ये विषय या तो स्नातक विषय होते हैं या उम्मीदवारों के रुचि क्षेत्र के विषय होते हैं।

यूपीएससी परीक्षा की तैयारी के टिप्स

किसी भी माध्यम (अंग्रेजी / हिंदी / अन्य भाषाओं) के उम्मीदवारों के लिए यूपीएससी सीएसई 2023 को पहले प्रयास में उत्तीर्ण करने के लिए, उम्मीदवारों से आग्रह किया जाता है कि वे यूपीएससी पाठ्यक्रम को पूरी लगन से पढ़ें और उसके अनुसार अपनी अवधारणाओं को स्पष्ट करने के लिए जरुरी पुस्तकों / संसाधनों को पढ़ें। उम्मीदवारो को यह सुनिश्चित करना चाहिए कि आईएएस पाठ्यक्रम में शामिल सभी विषयों का एक बार अच्छी तरह से विश्लेषण हो जाना चाहिए ताकि अंतिम समय में कोई भी समस्या ना आये। IAS परीक्षा के लिए, आपके द्वारा चुने गए संसाधनों और आपकी तैयारी के दौरान किए गए संशोधनों पर बहुत अधिक निर्भर करता है।

UPSC Mains Syllabus

Upsc mains syllabus for ias exam.

The IAS mains exam comprises nine theory papers and marks in seven of those papers are taken into consideration for preparing the final merit list. The other two papers, English and Indian Language, are qualifying in nature (candidates have to score 25% or above to be eligible for selection). The candidates who score above the cut-off in the first stage (Prelims) of the IAS exam  only will be eligible for the Mains. While only objective-type (MCQs) questions are asked in Prelims, the subjective Mains exam requires a deeper understanding of the topics.

Serious IAS aspirants must already be aware that UPSC Civil Services Exam 2024 calendar (latest) states that the Prelims will be held on 26th May 2024, and the Mains will commence from September 2024, onwards. However, the UPSC Mains 2023 were held from 16th September 2023, onwards. This gives enough time to prepare the comprehensive exam syllabus.

The purpose of this stage of the UPSC exam is to test the understanding of the candidates and to check whether they have the intellectual capacity to present the answers in a clear, concise and coherent manner in the given time frame.

Language Papers (Indian language and English)

Although both these papers are only qualifying in nature, candidates should not be complacent as if they fail to score below 25% in either of them, their remaining answer sheets won’t even be evaluated. Both the papers follow a similar pattern of questions as given below.

• One essay question for 100 marks – candidates have to select one out of a few given topics
• Reading comprehension and related five-six questions for a total of 60 marks
• Precis writing for 60 marks – the answer sheet will have a separate grid structure where this has to be written
• Translation from English to chosen language for 20 marks
• Translation from chosen language to English for 20 marks
• Grammar and basic language usage such as synonyms, sentence correction etc. for a total of 40 marks

UPSC Mains paper gives an opportunity to candidates where can opt for subjects under a few sections. This acts as an advantage for the aspirants can they can pick their strengths and increase their overall scores. The UPSC mains syllabus does not have any prescribed syllabus for the essay paper as such. As per the UPSC, “ Candidates are expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in an orderly fashion, and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression .”

Candidates are required to write two essays from a list of given topics for a combined total of 250 marks.

Optional Subject (Two Papers)

A candidate has to choose one optional subject (out of a total of 48 options). There will be two papers for a combined total of 500 marks. The IAS mains syllabus is comprehensive and the questions asked in the CSE require not only a certain depth of understanding but also the ability to present the answers in a coherent manner. The syllabus of UPSC mains comprises both static and dynamic aspects. Hence, it is essential for the IAS aspirants to track and sort the current affairs under appropriate papers/headings as per the UPSC mains syllabus.

The Mains exam is for a total of 1750 marks (7 papers * 250 marks) and, the aspirants who clear the stage reach the interview (UPSC Personality Test). What are the indian languages in IAS mains?

There are two papers but only on one subject. So you got to choose only one subject for UPSC. Get the list of optional subjects in the linked article.

Do the students from the northeast have to appear in only paper B (english) for the qualifying as they are exempted from paper A? , or is there any alternative paper they need to give for that. Also how is the marks calculated in that case ?

Hi Yes, they only have to write English language paper. Since both the language papers are of qualifying nature, marks are unaffected by this exemption provided to candidates hailing from the north-eastern states of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland

Hi, One can give IAS Interview in any one of the official languages of India, other than Hindi/English. One has to mention the language medium of the interview while filling the DAF .

UPSC Syllabus 2024: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Civil Service Examination (CSE), which is the most prestigious examination in the country. Every year, lakhs of candidates fill out the application form to compete for approximately a thousand posts. UPSC has released its UPSC CSE 2024 notification on February 14, and prelims are scheduled to be conducted tentatively on May 26, 2024. UPSC Syllabus 2024

The purpose of the UPSC syllabus is to evaluate candidates' knowledge, aptitude, and analytical skills. The UPSC IAS Prelims syllabus of General Studies (GS) Paper I consists of subjects such as Current events of national and international importance, history of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, and Economic Geography of India and the World, Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights, Issues, etc., Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc. General issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity, and climate change that do not require subject specialisation and general science. 

UPSC IAS Prelims General Studies II

The UPSC IAS Prelims syllabus of General Studies (GS) Paper II, generally known as CSAT, consists of subjects such as comprehension, interpersonal skills, including communication skills, logical reasoning and analytical ability, decision-making and problem solving, general mental ability, basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc.) (Class X level). The CSAT paper is also qualifying in nature, in which candidates need to score a minimum of 33% marks.

UPSC IAS Mains Syllabus 2024

The UPSC mains syllabus is the written exam which consist of 9 papers including essay, general studies paper and an optional subject. The mains exam evaluate deep understanding of candidate on particular topic and candidate's ability to articulate their understanding within the given time frame. The examination will consists of  nine papers, including two qualifying papers of 300 marks each in any Indian language and English. Candidates must score at least 25% in both qualifying papers for their Essay, General Studies, and Optional Subject papers to be considered for evaluation.

UPSC IAS Mains Essay 2024 

The UPSC IAS Essay is also known as Paper I where candidates are required to write an essay on the given topic. The candidates will be asked to write and organise their thoughts in an orderly manner. The more score will be given to candidates who have written in a precise and effective form,

UPSC IAS Mains General Studies 2024

The UPSC IAS Mains General Studies consists of 4 papers on General Studies, i.e., General Studies I, General Studies II, General Studies III, and General Studies IV. The topics that are covered in each paper are listed below:

• GS Paper I consists of Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society
• GS Paper II consists of Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations

NEW DELHI: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Examination preliminary exam 2024 will be held on June 16. The UPSC CSE admit card 2024 is expected to be issued soon at the official website, upsc.gov.in. The commission has announced that the UPSC IAS recruitment 2024 aims to fill around 1,056 vacancies, which include 40 posts reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) category.

“The e-Admit Cards to these candidates will be available for downloading from the UPSC's Website along with other eligible candidates of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024, around one week before the date of Examination,” the UPSC said.

Candidates who have completed the UPSC one-time registration (OTR) before the deadline will be able to download the UPSC CSE 2024 admit card. They will have to key in their registration number and password generated during registration to download the e-admit card.

“The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website, upsconline.nic.in, for downloading by candidates. No Admit Card will be sent by post,” it said.

UPSC CSE prelims exam pattern

The UPSC civil services prelims will consist of two papers of objective type questions carrying a maximum of 400 marks. This is the screening test to shortlist candidates for UPSC CSE Mains 2024 exam.

The commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for IAS Main exam based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in general studies paper-II of Civil and total qualifying marks of general studies paper-I of prelims exam. Both paper 1 and 2 will be held for two hours duration each and will be in English and Hindi medium.

UP Board Class 11 English Syllabus 2024-25 : The Uttar Pradesh Board has published the 2024–25 syllabus for Class 11 English. Four sections will be there to test reading, writing, grammar, and literature learning. The highest weightage is given to the literature section (Section D).
