Most high level positions in companies are filled by men, even though the workforce in many developed countries consists of 50 percent female workers. Companies should be required to allocate a certain percentage of management positions to women. Discuss, what is your opinion?

The inequality between men and women has always been a significant issue in society. , it is undeniable that most vital positions in companies are taken by males, not females. Therefore, that companies should allocate to women a certain number of these positions. However, I do not agree with this requirement completely.

On the other hand, the global economy is developing rapidly nowadays. In most corporations, distinguish men from women; they only focus on working efficiently. In this world, any employees who possess enough abilities and work in an effective way, be promoted to positions. Therefore, allocating the high level positions in companies to women is not necessary. Moreover, the instances of women in essential positions . Those women are very successful in their work and their lives.

In conclusion, although the inequality between men and women has reduced, it still is a social issue worth . Personally, in my opinion we should create as many opportunities for women to have an equal life as we can.

This essay needs some work. It has a good structure, the paragraphs are coherent, you are using enough linking words and the task is covered. On the other hand, the grammar needs much attention, the structure of the sentences should be worked on and there were some unclear expressions used. See comments underlined in blue for more details. IELTS Essay Ideas: Female Staff in Senior Positions

Here is an IELTS writing task 2 essay about management positions and gender with ideas given below.

Most high level positions in companies are filled by men even though the workforce in many developed countries is more than 50 per cent female. Companies should be required to allocate a certain percentage of these positions to women. To what extent do you agree?

Why companies should give a percentage of senior positions to women

  • equal rights and opportunities for men and women
  • it avoids discrimination
  • it creates a pleasant work environment to have a better balance of the genders in management and senior levels
  • it creates a supportive work environment for other female employees to know that a certain percentage of management is also female
  • women have valuable skills of communication and diplomacy for high level positions

Why companies should not give a percentage of senior positions to women

  • it is unrealistic to stipulate a certain percentage of one gender
  • companies cannot be sure that they will receive suitable female applicants to fill a certain percentage of senior positions
  • this forces companies to fulfill percentages even though it may be to their detriment

Although women take a higher percentage, more than 50% in a total workforce of industrialized countries, men are a dominant class by holding a certain number of senior positions in companies. to my point, i must say that key positions should be shared to both male and female, depending on their performances, not to make an equal proportion. It is undeniable that authorities play an essential role, and determine the future of its own companies, so there should be applicants who fit the positions validly in efficacy and proficiency. for example, what the products they mainly invest in, how much the budget will be spent on marketing, is decided by the CEOs of companies. hence, if these leaders appear without capacity and vision in this field, they will put an end to their factory’s lives. As regarding biological perspective, women are likely to be manipulated in feelings; therefore, emotional decisions are made instead of strict ones. obviously, either managing employee or negotiating with a partner, emotional influences can lead to a financial loss, by keeping ones that should be rejected or committing to unprofitable terms and conditions. However, giving women an opportunity to prove they qualified also bring a variety of benefits. for instance, varying the gender of the dominant class can offer companies diverse opinions and creative strategies for handling the challenges of the complicated economy. in addition, the female leader can also be ideal for negotiation due to their gentleness and flexibility to reach an agreement that harsh approaches are arduous to get. in conclusion, the distribution of gender across senior positions is unnecessary and should depend on individual efforts rather than on their gender, but each gender, both male and female have their own different talent.

### It is an undeniable fact that very few top positions in an organization are held by women, despite the reality that there are more female workers in the workforce compared to men. As a result, many argue that certain percentage of these positions needs to be reserved for women. While I agree that more women deserve to be in executive roles, I disagree with this idea of reservation based on gender. It is quite astonishing that even in the advanced countries, women are denied managerial jobs not because of their qualifications but due to their gender. However, reservation system is not the right solution, in a sense that companies sometimes might end up recruiting an unqualified candidate in a bid to fulfill the reservation category. Therefore, other efficient ways of dealing with this problem needs to be considered. One such way of resolving this issue is by introducing stringent company policies wherein a strict action including termination needs to be taken against those individuals indulging in gender biasing during the recruitment process. This way, a skilled and qualified candidate is appointed irrespective of their gender. Another way of overcoming this is by ensuring that the educational institutions incorporate this subject of gender equality right from the school curriculum. Even though this is a long term approach, it will make sure that future generation of recruiters will give importance to the required skill set, educational qualifications and other leadership skills rather than indulging in gender partiality. In conclusion, I strongly believe that instead of reservation, other realistic and more result oriented approaches needs to be considered to ensure proper talent is rewarded.

world has changed a lot than past, but men still hold the right to seize some higher level positions in almost every field some say this is hindering women’s success. some experts suggest that reserving certain job positions for women could make both gender have equal place in the world . for several reasons , I believe that this idea could have bad effect on some other experts male workers .

to begin , it is undoubtedly true that women have shown their worth in society by standing up for their rights , history has illustrates that there were numerous of women who fought for their nation with dignity and helped men to conquer our most intractable challenges . however , their willingness to put enemies down is still being admired by large number of men solders. this is why some people believe that women deserve same positions in high level jobs as men do.

Not to mention , it is not like there is not any women who is not selected as top supervisor in any company.Again it is up to the performance that they do during their whole life and in interview.

To conclude , i would like to say it again , work has nothing to do with gender , giving opportunities to women by saving some top jobs in mighty organization would make companies put better male workers down on the name of equalizing gender in the work place.

Female leadership is a better option for the society

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

If we look back at history it is seen that violence and conflict were evident under male leadership than female leadership. Does this suggest that female leadership is a better option? Would it ensure the peace and better growth in the society? What is your opinion on that?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer 1:

The history of world civilisation holds innumerable stories and sagas of brutal and terrifying battles. In the continuum of kingdoms, the number of male rulers outnumbers female rulers. And this fact aroused debatable though among people whether all the historical wars or disputes were a result of male dictatorship. Protagonists believe that female leadership is a solution to discourage such lethal trend to occur in future, whereas dissenters refute this idea. I am in consummate discord with the proposal that bringing female leadership in place is a solution to control those disasters.

In order to reinforce my view, a number of arguments could be presented. Firstly, a situation such as a war, dispute, and riot cannot be easily attributed to a gender of a leader. There are various agendas hidden behind such actions. For example, a country would engage in a war to retaliate its adversary. A tumult or riot could have engendered due to dissatisfaction or frustration of common public in the response to a governmental policy. The history has witnessed several male leaders who brought peace and freedom in the world, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela to name a few. History also has some examples where war was carried out under the leadership of female ruler. For example, the then Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher had to take an extremely difficult decision to announce for a war to reciprocate to an imminent danger. So, it can be seen that a leader, irrespective of its gender, has to undergo server decision-making process due to unavoidable circumstances.

However, talking about female leadership, a country could benefit from it to great extent. The reason behind it is that females bring a different perspective of thought and can analyse the matter from a different angle. They usually tend to be inclined towards improving the living conditions of citizens and empowering the women legion. A survey conducted by Harvard Business University reveals that female leaders possess higher Emotional Quotient (EQ) than their male counterparts. This could be one reason why female leader could make a difference in a society.

To sum up, after contemplating all the viewpoints of the topic at hand, I would reiterate that although female leadership has its own merits, but that cannot be the solution to eradicate conflict or warship from society or the world. On pragmatic cognizance, one can discern that in order to reinforce peace and wisdom, a true leader will have to stand with its people in solidarity and instil harmony in other parts of the world.

Based on the world historical events, it can be seen that there was more violence and confrontation under men’s leadership compare to the women’s. Some people believe that one of the solutions to world peace would be by appointing more women leaders. I personally disagree with the statement as I believe that gender does not affect to crime or conflicts, but it depends on the leader’s personality.

Many people think that there are more conflicts and wars under the leadership of men. History had shown that due to several male leaders’ ambition, some of the bloodiest war had happened. One of the examples is Adolf Hitler who had the ambition to conquered Europe. Due to his ideology, there were more than 10 million people died during World War 2. And in another case, Japan had lost so many lives, due to its dictator leader King Akihito, whereas Nagasaki and Hiroshima had been bombed by the American. Based on these historical events, some people have a conclusion that men have the tendency to use military force in their leadership which would trigger conflicts.

On the other hand, a group of people believe that conflict and confrontation are lower under women’s leadership, therefore there should be more women leaders in the world. However, some people disagree with it, since there were some women leaders who also had shown their strength and power. For example, the former Prime Minister of England, Margaret Thatcher had triggered the Malvinas war between Argentine and England. Many experts think that gender would have less correlation with conflict or violence. They believe that personal ideology, ambition and character are the factors that affect leadership style.

In conclusion, although history had shown that there were more wars and confrontations during male leaderships, some female leaders also showed their ambition and aggressiveness. I personally believe that the sex of leaders would not have significant effect on their leadership style, but it is their personality that affected their leadership style.

Some people think we need more female leaders to create world peace and reduce violence. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Recently, there have been more and more widespread debates about whether women should be appointed to important positions of governmental leaders in order to help in peace-making and reduce violence all over the world. However, I would argue that this is such a naive perception and we should spend time focusing on the root problems.

Obviously, this is a well-founded conclusion due to the apparent lack of female leaders in government worldwide. Women are certainly under-represented politics and we should definitely have more of them being involved in this field so as to keep sex discrimination at bay and see all the issues from many points of views. The second point to note is that women are believed to be capable of balancing between negative and positive points of any issues and bring all parties into peaceful negotiations with their kind-hearted personalities and soft skills.

On the other hand, I personally think that the thought of having more women taking leadership roles in government could change the world is fallacious. First and foremost, some current major problems like terrorism, wars, and violence are caused by much deeper reasons than just gender. To be more specific, the main matters are racism, poverty, religious tension and so on and these problems can take years or even decades to be handled appropriately. As a result, regardless of the number of female leaders, the question of peace will remain as a thorny issue and the threat of wars could not be eliminated completely. Moreover, male leaders seem to be more tough and aggressive in running a nation while it is commonly thought that women with their weakness and maternity instincts are not able to make important decisions.

In conclusion, from my instinct, I believe that change the genders of the components of government is not the perfect solution and we should find the ways to tackle the root problems

A recent and common viewpoint agrees that male dominance in leadership has often resulted in chaotic results and hence , it is more peaceful if women take the lead. However, I personally disagree with such a suggestion and my explanations will be expressed in this essay. 

The initial reason why I believe men can exercise more decent leadership is that they are less affected by emotion. In fact, scientists believe that male’s emotional cortex is less active, therefore they are hardwired to mental stability, leading to the ability to make more rational decisions. Women leaders, on the other hand, have expressed evident tendencies where their own emotional instability compromised leadership. Take the current series of US presidential debates as an example, in which male candidates build arguments on regulations, while female opponents tilted significantly towards raising awareness on aggressive language towards fellow females professionals and themselves, which is an indicator of emotions taking control.

In accompany with the said arguments, it can also be pointed out that the female’s physical limits in stress coping capacity acts as a deterrent for them to succeed at leadership positions. Biologically speaking, women’s physical capacity for stress endurance has been proven to be not as good as their male counterparts. Therefore, prolonged and challenging situations, which are a normal feature for any leadership role, demand equally persistent cognitive clarity that the female physicality is rarely able to handle. To be more specific, men often outnumber women in leadership positions which require the superior stress dealing physicality such as CEO or hedge fund manager. Also, it is an undeniable fact that during mankind’s history, the majority of leaders during chaotic periods are often men like George Washington or Winston Churchill.

To conclude, I strongly believe that the role of leadership should be more suitable for men as they are more logical at decision making and more resilient in coping with high and long tension.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Why I quit Goldman Sachs

I became a VP in six years. Then the 'boys only' culture drove me out.

Goldman Sachs has a problem.

Only 29% of the 2022 partner class was women — just slightly more than the previous two classes — and a flood of women leaders have recently taken their talents elsewhere . Dina Powell McCormick, head of sovereign business and sustainability efforts, left last year. Beth Hammack, a longtime partner, exited after she was passed over for the CFO role. Stephanie Cohen , once a likely CEO successor, left in March after 25 years. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that two-thirds of female partners had left or lost the title since 2018. The same was true for only 50% of male partners.

Two years ago, I joined the ranks of the women leaving Goldman. My career propelled me from an intern to a vice president in just six years, but it wasn't a walk in the park. I didn't feel like my innately feminine, sensitive self could cut it at Goldman, so I stashed her aside and stepped into an alternate persona. Under my desk, I would keep a pair of black pumps that I called my "Hollywood heels." When I put them on every morning, I channeled a thick-skinned character who thrived in a man's world.

It worked, but it was draining. Eventually, I decided I'd had enough; I left to write novels and build my own coaching and consulting business. It's been liberating to work in my authentic style, and it's made me realize how much of myself I was keeping small while at Goldman.

The lack of female leadership in the financial industry is nothing new, but many companies have been making strides. Citi has a female CEO and surpassed its 2022 goal to increase the number of women in leadership positions. Morgan Stanley has steadily increased its share of women in senior management. And two women are likely candidates to succeed JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. But at Goldman, the problem has only gotten worse.

In 2023, Goldman paid $215 million to settle a lawsuit filed in 2010 that alleged it had discriminated against thousands of female employees. Earlier this year, CEO David Solomon told the Journal: "Advancing women into our most senior ranks is an area where we have not accomplished our goals." But as I watch senior women continue their exodus from Goldman, I'm not sure the company actually wants to change.

Bringing women in the door isn't Goldman's problem — in its most recent hiring report, 50% of its entry-level analysts were women. The problem is that it can't keep women, especially those in leadership roles, around.

In my first role, I was the only woman on a team of 20 investors. Without role models to reflect different ways to be a leader, I felt like I had to mimic the masculine way to succeed. I wore a pantsuit and muted my personality; I played golf, talked football, and cried in the bathroom stall so I wouldn't be seen shedding tears at my desk. My out-of-the-box ideas were discouraged. I was told to stick to the Excel templates and precisely formatted PowerPoint decks, and to stop using exclamation points in my emails. My schedule was whatever the male leadership pushed: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week and long hours most weekends.

Many financial firms have a rigid culture, but Goldman's takes it to the next level — and women tend to bear the brunt.

When I took my first week of vacation after being at Goldman for over a year, my manager lectured me for not replying to emails or updating financial models during my personal time off. I told him that I had been hiking off the grid with my mom and hadn't had much cell service. "Next time, choose a vacation spot with better reception," he told me. Jaw clenched, I agreed.

Many financial firms have a rigid culture, but Goldman's takes it to the next level — and women tend to bear the brunt. Take the firm's strict return-to-office policy as an example. While many companies have modernized to embrace hybrid and remote work , Goldman has not. This disproportionately hurts women, as research has found women are more likely to thrive and stay at companies longer when they have hybrid and flexible working environments. In a 2023 survey by International Workplace Group, 72% of women polled said they would look for a new job if their company took away their option for hybrid work. And a recent McKinsey survey found that two of the top priorities for the women in the poll when picking a job were the ability to work remotely and control when they work.

Rather than changing its "be in the office every day and grind it out" culture to better suit women, Goldman puts the onus on us to change ourselves to fit the model.

Jacki Zehner, a former Goldman partner turned CEO of the women's networking platform ShePlace, recently wrote about the company on LinkedIn. The biggest reason women leave, she said, is "not feeling valued."

This resonated with me. Feeling — and being — undervalued means women miss out on promotions. McKinsey calls this the "broken rung": For every 100 men promoted from an entry level role to manager in 2023, only 87 women were promoted, according to their survey of 27,000 workers in the US and Canada. This disparity out of the gate creates a leadership-pipeline problem down the road.

While leadership styles vary from person to person, research suggests that women and men tend to lead differently. In her book, "When Women Lead," the CNBC reporter Julia Boorstin says women are more likely to lead with empathy, vulnerability, gratitude, communal leadership, and a greater sense of purpose. Boorstin's reporting found that women were more likely than men to invest in mentorship and have more diverse teams. The differences translate to financial results: In a recent study, McKinsey found that companies with at least 30% female leaders tended to outperform financially.

Goldman says it understands the importance of female leadership. "When women lead, everything changes," its corporate site says. The company offers a women's network, encourages male allyship, and talks a big game about diversity. But Goldman leadership seems to want the benefits of gender diversity without the hard work of supporting diverse leadership styles. For all the talk, I never noticed it trickle down to how it actually felt to work there. My female coworkers and I talked about it frequently — Goldman was squandering our talents by making us conform to the small box of how finance was supposed to be done. It felt like they were glad to have recruited such bright, multidimensional women but had no interest in empowering our gifts.

When we contemplated what it would take to rise into the senior ranks, we knew we would be compromising too much.

As I moved up at Goldman, I tried to incorporate more of my true self at work, whether that meant letting out my bubbly laugh or writing a "Goldman Sachs joy newsletter" to boost morale. Many colleagues appreciated my style, especially when I worked for a year in the London office. But in New York, I met resistance. When colleagues found my poetry on Instagram, they made negative comments to me about how emotional the poems were. When I brought in cookies for my team, I was told I should have been building financial models instead of baking.

These are small examples, but that's where bias often lives — in the million little ways women are told to tweak themselves to be more like men. The implication is that our way is lesser. I became a VP at 28, but I was burned out — not from the work itself but from the parts of me I had to dim along the way. The internal balancing act pushed me out.

Nearly two dozen of my women friends at the VP and managing-director levels have also left Goldman to join companies — or start companies — where they have more freedom, whether that means hybrid work, greater autonomy, or the ability to be promoted based on the quality of their work, rather than who they knew.

Goldman was a great place for us to start our careers, but when we contemplated what it would take to rise into the senior ranks, we knew we would be compromising too much.

From what I've seen, the C-suite men who reinforce Goldman's culture generally have good intentions. They assume that because their way worked for them, everyone else should follow suit. But when a woman doesn't fit the typical pattern or mold for CEO or partner, she's passed over.

As more women leave Goldman, the business itself suffers. Data shows that companies in the top 10% financially have more women in leadership positions. These companies excel because their women leaders act differently. Sometimes they see things that others miss. Just look at the 2008 financial crash .

If Goldman can manage to grow its ranks of women leaders, more women will follow. Deloitte found that for each woman added to a financial firm's C-suite, there's a positive, quantifiable impact on the number of senior women in levels just below the C-suite. We all need role models to show us what's possible. Women like Asahi Pompey and Yassaman Salas, Goldman partners whose commitment to being themselves radiates like a superpower, and Rebecca Anderton-Davies , a managing director who also shines as an author and yogi, show me there's hope.

Since I left two years ago, Goldman has been good to me. They bought copies of my book and hosted me to speak with interns. But when one intern asked how I "brought my full self to work" — one of Goldman's favorite slogans — I sidestepped the question. The truth was, I didn't bring my full self. Most of the time, I kept my feminine side tucked away, and I was rewarded for it.

Since leaving, I've been able to let my full self shine. I delivered a TEDx talk comparing Wall Street dealmaking to modern dating — something I would not have had the autonomy to do if I were still at Goldman. And rather than matching my schedule to Goldman's rigid model, I'm able to honor the natural ebbs and flows of my productivity. My feminine side is no longer a liability; it's an asset. I lead creativity and breathwork workshops, write women-centered novels, and mentor clients to help them build their dream careers.

I'm grateful to Goldman for launching my career, but it has a lot of room for improvement. And until it turns things around, don't be surprised when talented women keep walking out. We know there are other places we can go.
