How to write Personal Covering Letter For Schengen Visa

Last updated: May 29, 2024 - Written By: Schengen Travel - Filed Under: Schengen Visa , Visa Documentation -

What is a P ersonal Covering Letter for Schengen Visa ?

A personal covering letter for Schengen Visa is a mandatory document you need to attach to your visa application every time you apply for a Schengen visa. Having to write a personal covering letter for your Schengen Visa Application may feel like a daunting task, and many find it hard to begin writing it because they are unsure of what they need to include and how to write it.

At Schengen Visa Flight Reservation  we offer authentic and cancellable flight itinerary and hotel reservations for your visa application, in addition to collecting information about the various visa processes and requirements, so that the entire visa application process will be as smooth as possible for our readers and clients.

In this article we will tell you exactly how you can write the best possible personal covering letter for Schengen Visa application .

The personal covering letter for your Schengen Visa Application is a way to explain your purpose for visiting Europe and the Schengen areas to your visa officer, and assure the governing officials that you will only good, touristy things. It also gives a quick break-down of your intended itinerary so that the embassy can see that you have a plan you intend to stick to.

If you DON’T want to make set plans, remember that you can make all of your flight and hotel bookings through Schengen Visa Flight Reservation  that are authentic, but also fully cancellable (we will cancel your bookings unless you tell us to proceed with the booking) so that you can make a temporary itinerary that you are free to change later , after you have obtained your visa. You also can read why our itineraries are best as well as verifiable on airlines websites.

What to Include in Your Covering Letter for Schengen Visa :

Q: First things first; is the covering letter for the Schengen Visa Application necessary?

Answer: YES.

There is no getting around it, and your visa application will be rejected if you don’t add it.

So, with that little detail sorted out, the next step is to uncover what the covering letter needs to… cover ?

To make sure your covering letter is as kick ass as possible, it must contain two important things:

  • The purpose of your stay/trip to Europe
  • Your planned itinerary, in details

There are different ways to write your covering letter for Schengen Visa . In general we recommend KISS (Keep It Short and Simple). The visa officer is in no way interested in hearing the detailed story about how you met your current German boyfriend that you now want to visit, or the family history of your Dutch roots from 200 years back, that you now want to learn more about. Writing that you are going to visit your boyfriend or girlfriend, or to learn more about said country’s culture, is more than sufficient!

Different Ways to Write Your Covering Letter for Schengen Visa :

Luckily the internet is flooded with covering letter samples, that all have mostly the same layout.

The first paragraph and intro outlines your purpose of the visit, whereas the next part is a bullet point list explaining your detailed itinerary. Below are some samples of covering letters for Schengen visa:

As you can see, the covering letters are straight and to the point, with no unnecessary information. Step 9: Sign off Formally

Additional Tips:

  • Clarity and Conciseness : Keep your language clear and concise. Avoid overly complex sentences.
  • Customization : Tailor your cover letter to reflect your specific situation. Avoid generic phrases that make your letter sound impersonal.
  • Proofreading : Always check for grammatical errors or typos. A well-written letter makes a better impression.

SCHENGEN VISA via GREEK EMBASSY: Requirements, Appointment, Application

SCHENGEN VISA via GREEK EMBASSY: Requirements, Appointment, Application

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Last updated: 2020 • 3 • 8

This post is about how to apply for a Schengen Visa via the Embassy of Greece in Manila for the purpose of tourism. You’ll find the list of requirements and detailed information about the application process from securing a schedule to the actual interview. If you’re applying as a worker or as a seafarer, I’m afraid this post isn’t for you.

Greece just got closer to the Philippines.

Low-cost carrier Scoot , a Singapore Airlines subsidiary, now flies nonstop to Athens from Changi Airport. And because Scoot also directly connects Singapore to many Philippine destinations, this new route opens another avenue for Filipinos to reach Europe much more easily and more affordably.

But because Greece is part of the so-called Schengen Zone, Philippine passport holders will need to secure a Schengen Visa first. It is a travel document that will allow you to enter any of the 26 European states that are part of the Schengen Agreement, including Greece.

If you’re flying to Greece and you’re also planning on visiting any of the Schengen countries, you only need one visa. You don’t need to apply for each of the countries in your itinerary individually.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

WHO CAN APPLY AT THE EMBASSY OF GREECE?

The Greek Embassy in Manila also processes applications on behalf of the Portuguese government, so this post also applies if you’re traveling to Portugal.

Apply at the Greek Embassy only if ANY of the items below is true:

  • You’re going to Greece ONLY or Portugal ONLY and will not visit any other country.
  • You will visit two or more Schengen countries but you will stay the longest in Greece or Portugal.
  • You will visit two or more Schengen countries but the main purpose of your trip is in Greece or Portugal. (Example: you will attend a conference in Greece but you plan on going out to other Schengen countries while you’re there.)
  • You will stay in multiple Schengen countries for exactly the same number of days, but Greece or Portugal is your point of entry (first in your itinerary).

If you’re sure that the Greek Embassy is the right place to lodge your application, it’s time to get started. Here’s how to apply, as we experienced first-hand.

We were also able to arrange a special rate for The Poor Traveler readers, as long as you book on the PGA Sompo website and use the promo code: WORTHIT .

Possible Additional Documents

When I applied, the documents below were required, but they no longer appear on the website’s new list of requirements, so I’m not sure if these are still necessary.

  • A photocopy of all the requirements. I still recommend that you produce photocopies especially of all pages on current and previous passports that have visas or stamps, for good measure. If they don’t need it, at least you have an extra copy that you can bring with you during the trip. It’s good practice to have photocopies of your important documents when traveling abroad, anyway.
  • Accomplished Self-Check List . When I applied, this was a requirement. I’m not sure if this is still the case now. But this is simply a checklist enumerating all the requirements with important reminders about the application. Download it here .
You can get FLIGHT RESERVATIONS, HOTEL RESERVATIONS, and TRAVEL INSURANCE online! We got in touch with Gazelle Travel and Tours, a DTI-registered DOT-accredited travel agency so they could easily offer these services to our readers. For the rates and more info, read: FLIGHTS AND HOTEL RESERVATIONS

How to apply for a greek schengen visa, 1. schedule an appointment by email..

There is only one way you can request for an appointment: by email. You can’t simply walk in or call the embassy. I repeat, it has to be done by email.

The email address is [email protected] .

You have to strictly follow a specific template depending on whether you’re applying individually or as a group. You will find the format here:

———————————– PREFERRED DATE: {DD MONTH YEAR} Name of Applicant: {LAST NAME, FIRST NAME} Passport No: Contact Tel.: Type of Visa: {SCHENGEN/SHORT TERM or NATIONAL/LONG TERM} Main Country of Destination: Expected Date of Departure: {DD MONTH YEAR} ———————————–

Some important notes:

  • Once they receive your request, you will get an acknowledgment reply within the next 24 working hours.
  • If you need to change anything, you may email them at least 24 working hours before your appointment date.
  • If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so by emailing at least 2 working days before the schedule given to you.
  • That email address is only for visa appointment only. Don’t send your inquiries or other messages to that address.

Actually, items #1 (schedule) and #2 (requirements) of this process are interchangeable. But we choose to prioritize the scheduling because sometimes, the earliest available slot is over a month away. For example, in our case, we emailed in October 25-ish and the earliest free slot was in late November. Thankfully, two earlier slots opened and we were asked by the Embassy if we wanted to take them. We did! Lucky, lucky!

2. Complete the Schengen Visa requirements.

While we were waiting for our appointment date, we gathered all the required documents as listed above.

Some important notes .

  • The documents must be arranged in the same order as the list above. Even the photocopies of your stamps and visas must be in the same order as they appear on your passports.
  • Place all the requirements in a long brown envelope. Write your last name, first name and contact number in bold capital letters on the upper left corner of the envelope.
  • The original copies will be returned to you on the same day of application.

3. Submit the requirements at the Embassy of Greece.

On the day of the appointment, submit the requirements in person . Personal appearance is mandatory because you might be interviewed by the consul. Failure to show up means forfeiture of your appointment slot.

Prior to last year, most applicants were interviewed. But starting this year, it is no longer the case. They only interview applicants when they have additional questions or clarifications. Most applicants will not be required to undergo an interview anymore.

The address of the Embassy of Greece is this:

EMBASSY OF GREECE Unit 701 7F SEDCCO I Building Corner Rada and Legazpi Streets, Legaspi Village Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines 1229

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Show up at the lobby of the building 5 minutes before your schedule . This gives you time to register, deposit your ID, and climb to the 7th floor. If you arrive earlier, the guard will not let you in until 5 minutes before your schedule.
  • Once inside the Consular Office, approach the desk right away to register. You will have to write down your name and sign the reg sheet. This sheet also determines who gets entertained first. After registration, take a seat.
  • Once your name is called, submit your documents. Again, they must be in the same order as the checklist and must be in a long brown envelope. If they have questions, answer promptly and respectfully. You will be asked to take a seat as they check your docs.
  • Once they see that your docs are complete, you will be called again . You will be given a deposit slip. Fill it out with the provided details. (It’s also displayed on the corkboard in one corner of the room.)
  • Pay the visa fee at the BDO Branch in the opposite building. There is a report that visa fees across all Schengen embassies have increased to EUR 80 per applicant, but I haven’t confirmed this yet. Either way, you will be paying this in pesos. (When I applied, it was only EUR 60 or P3600 .) There should be four copies of the transaction slip. One will be left with the bank, two will be submitted to the embassy, and the final copy is yours to keep.
  • Go back to the Embassy and submit your deposit slips.
  • You will be called again to take your biometrics (photo and fingerprints) . After that, await further instructions.

Normally, there will be no interview. But if they need more information, they may invite you to an interview. The interview is done in a separate room, away from other applicants. If you apply as a group, there’s a chance you will be interviewed together, but not always. You will be asked about why you will be traveling and whom you will be traveling with. You will be asked about the details of your itinerary so make sure you know it by heart. The interview is short and straightforward. Be confident when you answer. Don’t be nervous. The Embassy is strict and firm, but they are very respectful and pleasant.

After the interview, you may still be required to submit more documents if they feel that your pile is insufficient.

Once everything is done, you will be given a slip with the date when you can pick up your passport. Take note of the time too!

That’s about it!

4. Claim your passport and visa.

Show up at the embassy again on the date and time of the release of your passport (the date indicated on the note given to you after submitting your documents).

When I applied the releasing period was Monday-Friday 1pm-2pm. But according to one of our readers, it is now 2:30pm-3:30pm. To be sure, make sure you take note of it or ask when you submit your application.

The date of release is usually 1 to 2 weeks from your submission date.

No need for an appointment when claiming. Just register at the lobby of the building, go to the consular office, register at the window, and wait for your name to be called. Claiming is fast and easy.

GREEK VISA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. how long does the whole greece visa application process take.

Hard to tell because it really depends on how early you can schedule for a visa appointment. The season is a big factor too. Some months are just busier than others. In my case, the whole thing — from scheduling to claiming — took almost a month.

Here’s my visa application timeline.

  • October 26 : We requested for an appointment via email. We were told that the earliest slot is on November 29. Later, we were told that 2 slots for November 2 freed up. We replied that we would take it.
  • November 2 : Our visa appointment date. Submission of docs to payment to interview took a couple of hours.
  • November 6 : Our visa was issued.
  • November 15 : Our passport/visa was ready to be picked up. But we weren’t in Manila at the time so we had to claim it a week later.
  • November 21 : We claimed our passport and visa. Took 15 minutes.

If we were able to claim our passport on the day it was ready, the whole process would have lasted only 20 days (15 working days).

Sometimes, the earliest available appointment date is 3 or 4 months later. I guess it’s best to schedule as early as you can.

2. How early should I apply for a Greek Schengen visa?

At the very least, secure an appointment with the embassy MONTHS IN ADVANCE . Lately, we’ve been getting messages from readers who applied recently and who were given a schedule months ahead. They also said that it took weeks for the embassy to reply to the appointment request.

In our case, we emailed in October 25-ish and the earliest free slot was end of November. Thankfully, two earlier slots opened and we were asked by the Embassy if we wanted to take them. We did! Lucky, lucky!

But to be on the safe side, get an appointment as soon as you can.

3. How long is the validity of the Schengen Visa?

Depends on the itinerary you submit. The Embassy will decide based on your itinerary so take it seriously. Don’t make dummy itineraries. Make sure it’s really your plan.

I submitted an 11-day itinerary and I was allowed to stay for 11 days, no more, no less. The visa is valid for 15 days, though. But each stay should last no more than 11 days.

4. Should I apply for a single-, double-, or multiple-entry visa?

Again, it depends on your itinerary and flight reservations. If your itinerary/flight reservations entail going out of the Schengen area once and coming back, then apply for a double-entry visa. If you will be flying our of the Schengen area multiple times, then go for the multiple entry visa.

Please take into consideration all your connecting flights . For example, if aside from Greece you will also be visiting Malta (which is a Schengen state) but you’re flying via Istanbul (which is outside Schengen), you will need to count that as “going out” of the zone.

Don’t apply for a multiple-entry visa if you intend to stay in Greece the whole time. There is no need for your visa to be multiple and will probably just raise more questions.

5. How much money should I have in the bank to get approved?

No one knows exactly. But remember this: You will be submitting hotel reservations (that you haven’t paid for yet) and a detailed day-to-day itinerary. So make sure that your bank has enough funds to cover the cost of the flights you submitted and the EUR 60 per day of your stay.

What’s the EUR 60 per stay? Think of it as your pocket money. Some embassies require EUR 45 per day, some EUR50, some E55. To be on the safe side, use EUR60 per day.

My personal rule is P10,000 per day of stay + airfare + cost of accommodations. That’s my MININUM. I say minimum because the embassy should be convinced that you could still live comfortably after you return from the trip. Otherwise, they might find it hard to believe that you’re willing to burn all your life savings on a trip.

6. What are the reasons why my Schengen visa application would be denied?

This applies not just to the Greek Embassy but also other Schengen embassies:

  • You can’t prove that you intend to return to the Philippines . You probably don’t have a stable job at this point, newly employed, or newly resigned, and it’s giving the impression that you plan on staying longer than your declared duration.
  • You can’t prove that you can financially afford this trip. You or your sponsor may not be in a good financial standing.
  • You seem to not know the details of your trip . You may have appeared as though you’re not really doing what you declared you would be doing, which may raise some red flags.
  • Your purpose in Greece or Europe is unclear or dubious . This is why it is best to be specific when you’re detailing the reasons for your visit.

7. What does a Greek Schengen Visa look like?

sample cover letter for schengen visa greece

8. Do I really need plane tickets before applying? What if I get denied? Sayang the pera.

Nope ! Like I said before, you don’t need to purchase flight tickets. What you need are “ flight reservations .” It’s not the same as actual tickets. “Reservations” are just proof that you have blocked these plane seats, and you can cancel these in case your application is denied. Some airlines can hold the booking for you.

Travel agencies can also issue flight reservations. If you don’t have time to go to a travel agency, you can have it reserved online. When we apply for hard-to-get visas like Canada and Schengen, we hire Gazelle Travel and Tours , a DTI-registered and DOT-accredited agency. We created a form here so you can contact them completely ONLINE:

Hi Sir, I am currently working here in Thailand. We are planning with my boyfriend that i will visit him in Greece. Which is better, sponsored or not sponsored. Thank you so much. Godbless.

Yosh Dimen

We got our Pacific Cross insurance from Gazelle Travel and Tours. More info here: http://www.thepoortraveler.net/2017/06/flight-hotel-reservations-visa-application/

Teemee

Hello, It’s been six business days since we email the embassy for an appointment schedule. No feedback yet. Is this normal?

Yep, it’s normal. It really takes some time.

Lirk

In your case, How many days did they respond? Cause I’ve been waiting for their response for 5 days now.

Just a couple of days. We emailed them October. Marami yata nagaapply ngayon.

Aizzel

Hi, Good Day!

I am now thinking of changing all my plans of applying from France embassy to Greece embassy since I will be staying here the longest. Just to confirm, I need to apply for a Greece Schengen Visa if I will be staying her the longest even if my entry point is France? I plan to stay in :

Paris 1 day Amsterdam 2 days Zurich 1 day Italy 4 days Greece 5 days

So I need to apply with Greece even if my entry point is France, tama po ba?

Another questions po, since ang pag claim ng passport eh sa Manila and Im from Cebu and you mentioned youre not sure if meron courier option, can someone else claim it for me?

I’m hoping for your response po, you’ve been a great help to everyone Thanks :)

Yep. Even if France ang entry point mo, kung Greece yung longest na stay, sa Greece yung application. 3x na ako nag-Europe and 2x dun, iba ang entry point ko sa pinag-applyan ko ng visa. (I applied for a French visa before pero Netherlands entry point ko. Then I had a German visa pero France ang entry country ko.) Note though na ang kina-count nila ay hindi days, kundi nights.

james seraspe

hi sir good day… can i ask what kind of epidemiological certificate do i need to comply in applying visa to greece? and ehere to get this kind of certicate .. thank you … for the response….

CANDY

hello po. good day. where can i find the template to request change for appointment? can i request po in my email. thank you in advance po.

Hi Candy, in our case, we just replied to their email and they accommodated naman.

According to their website din, just reply to their confirmation email explaining that you want to change it to a new date. Make sure you mention the new date you want to book.

Jeff

GoodDay po you said in your blog .. Nov 2 was ur Interview … Then Nov.6 you found out was release … how do you know ur Visa was Release that so Early . THANKS….. Jeff

The date of issue was written on the visa. To clarify, that is not the date of release, that’s the date the visa was issued. They released the passport exactly 14 days after the interview.

Ah Okay , Thanks :-) so malalaman ko nalang kung kailan ini-ssued once we Pick up , so 3 to 4 days lng ung process nila pero ung realising is would run 2 weeks. But this time they advice applicants only 7working Days to release the passport… 8 to 9 days to for us to be sure … Thanks Again :-)

farah

hi po, if invited by someone do i need to provide bank statements? or the other party bank statement? thank you

Yep, you still need to provide yours. And the inviter must provide the ff:

– photocopy of the inviting party’s passport/ID – a signed original invitation letter. Must be addressed to the Consular Section of the Embassy. Must state guarantee of repatriation and coverage of travel, accommodation and medical expenses. – solemn declaration (“Υπεύθυνη Δήλωση”) with authenticated signature, if the inviting person is a Greek national

AROTRIS

I’m a Greek, living in Greece and I want a help, if it’s possible. As it’s not totally clear, in Greek Embassy’s list about the requirements and also in the similar list in this site here, as indeed it’s the same… In the case of invitating a Philippine citizen by a Greek, about the accommodation, it must be only at the place of the person who invites, only in a booked place by rental, such a hotel or a pansion room, could be the one or the other choice? Perhaps, as being the provider and inviter in this case, do I have the absolut right to take any choice without any more declaration? And in case of rental room, doesn’t it affect or added in the total account and budget of the invited person? So many questions on uncleared written requirements at the lists As an inviter, can I make any choice free? Please help, because we’ve been stuck on it, due to the so many different and confused information all around, in order to be more sure that the demand for tourist visa by an invitation, will have positive end. Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Arotris,

Apparently, the Greek Embassy has very recently updated the list of documents so I’m resending my reply with edits.

It is the INVITER/GUARANTOR that has to provide these requirements and give those to the person you are inviting so they can submit to the embassy.

And yes, as the inviter, you are free to choose the accommodations. But you need to express that you will shoulder the accommodations (among others). But make sure you include your personal details.

However, if the applicant will be staying at a hotel and you will pay for it, you will need to provide proof of hotel reservation too.

Thank you very much!!!! You really helped a lot!!!!

No problem!

riza

“If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so by emailing at least 2 working days before the schedule given to you. But you will need to follow another template, which can be found on the same webpage I indicated above. If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so by emailing at least 2 working days before the schedule given to you. where is this template po? can’t find it. TY

Hi Riza, unfortunately, when the Greek Embassy updated their website recently, they removed the procedure and template for rescheduling. My advice is to just reply to the original email.

M Frances

I sent them an e-mail on 26 March 2018 but they did not reply. Is there any other way to set an appointment or do I just try again?

Des

Were you able to get a sched? I sent mine 2nd wk of april, till now wala padin sched from them

PattyV

were you able to email and send them an appointment request? I am having the same problem

Hi guys, wala namang changes sa embassy website. It’s still [email protected]

Hmmm. I wonder what’s up. Did you guys receive an error message? Nag-bounce ba? If so, could you send us a screenshot so we could get in touch with the embassy?

Khay

My first attempt to schedule an appointment I didn’t get a response probably because I did it on Friday evening. So I tried again on a weekdays and I got a reply the following day.

Maybe because it was Holy Week last week?

As far as I know, this is the only way you can set an appointment. If there’s still no response until now, I would try again if I were in your shoes. :)

Patty

I had the same experience. I tried sending an email to [email protected] but the email is bouncing back. Failure to send

Chris

I called the greek embassy apparently they have a problem with their visa scheduling. Its frustrating and the people accepting the call weren’t helpful AT ALL, the person even told me that they dont care about my application and that i should apply with other schengen states! Did someone get an ‘emergency’ schedule? This is what they’ve told me. They hate being rushed.

Aj

Does the bank certificate and statement of acct really have to be explicitly addressed to the greek embassy? I got my bank certificate from bpi and they only gave me a generic/templated bank cert with receipt and told me to print my statement of acct from the online banking.

Hi AJ, ang BPI daw talaga, generic lang.

Eddie C. Agbayani

I have been trying to contact the Greek embassy for the processing of my Portugal Schengen Visa through. I am not getting any reply from the Greek embassy.v

Hi Eddie, yeah, andami ngang ganyan yung sentiment lately. But wala namang update or announcement sa website nila if may new email address. Same pa rin. So I don’t know how to approach it.

I had my interview yesterday morning and i was given a letter with instruction to pick up my passport next week. Does that mean my application was approved or denied? Or do they give back your passport at once pag denied ka? Sana po positive result po. Thinking about it is an ordeal for me. Di ako mapakali while waiting for the result

Hi Khay, there’s no way of telling until pick up na. Kahit denied or approved kasi, iki-keep muna talaga nila ung passport while they’re assessing the application.

Good luck with your application! Wag mo muna isipin masyado. :P

Camille

When was your travel date (date of departure) for your Greece trip? I’m really worried now because I sent them an email today asking for an appointment (preferred date: 12 July 2018). My date of departure is October 9, 2018 (about 4 months from now) and the schedule they gave me was September 27, 2018! It’s probable that I will only be able to get my passport days after that appointment. I’m not sure how possible it is to finalize all my airline / airbnb bookings in that short time or request for reconsideration just in case we get denied. I replied to their email asking for an earlier schedule but I’m not sure if they will be able to grant it.

Jojee M.

Hi Camille! Did they grant your request for an earlier appointment? They gave me an appointment 10 days before my travel dates :( huhu ang mahal na ng tickets by then. Hopefully magreply sila.

K-anne

Hello how long did you wait for their email reply? I sent kasi mine but it’s more than 24 hours wala paring reply.

You can ask them to let you know if slots open up. That’s what happened to us. We were scheduled at a later date, but when some slots opened, we were informed and we grabbed it.

But of course, you can’t count on it coz that’s leaving it up to chance. Another workaround is to apply via another embassy, but you should consider staying in that country the longest.

Mai

Hi! Do they also have courier service like the German abd French embassies? I’m living in the province kasi and I’m thinking it’s too much if a hassle to book another flight to Manila just to claim thr passport, worse if denied pa. Triple gastos! Hehe. Thank you!

May Legaspina

Iam x abroad from greece but I stay as illigal now my previous employer wants me to return back she s willing to help me what should I do

Hi Mai, di ko matandaan if may ganung option. Pero parang wala. :(

It’s been two weeks now and i still havent received any reply from the embassy. I sent it again after a week. Is there any other way to apply for a greek schengen visa?

Hi K-anne, still no update on their website :(

Have you tried calling them?

Not yet. Will try tho. My travel date is on nov 2, still enough time but it’s making me worried still. Thanks!

Medyo andami ngang nagkakaproblema about it lately. I wonder what’s up. Hindi kasi kami nagka-problem nang ganyan when we applied.

Hello! I got an appointment already. I need to confirm within 72 hours by replying to their email, but the email won’t send. I get a failure notice. Is it because it’s a saturday and i need to reply during their working hours?

Juds

Hi K-anne, did you call the embassy to try to follow up with a request for an appointment? I sent an email requesting for an appointment but only received an automated response that they received my email. No response about when my appointment will actually be. What did you do with yours? Thanks!

Hi K-anne, we haven’t tried emailing them on weekend so di ko sure. But I suspect it’s a technical issue on their side. Just try again tomorrow. :)

Crunch

I sent an appointment request last August 1, 2018, that’s 1 week already and wala pa rin silang reply for my request. I requested for a September 25 appointment. Should I email them for a follow up with my request or call them? My departure is on October 29 pa naman for a sports event.

Try calling, Crunch, if wala pa rin talagang reply.

Renz

Hi! Our travel date is October 26 and the appointment date we got was October 17. You mentioned that it will take them 14 days for the passport to be released. If that’s the case, di kami aabot sa trip.

Would it be possible for them to release the passports (assuming walang problem) before 26th? I also confirmed and requested them to place us on earlier appointment dates should slots free up. Thanks!

hi Renz! Did the embassy give you an earlier appointment? Did they reply agad to your message? I have the same case kasi on March and I’m worried the 10-day allowance is cutting it too close. Hope you reply din. Thanks!

Hi Renz, oh wow, super tight ng timing.

Ito ung naaalala ko when we applied sa Greek embassy. We were told that we must pick it up at least 14 days after. BUT the staff also mentioned that we can request for an earlier release nung passport/visa if kailangan.

Sadly, di na kami nag-ask ng more info about dun sa earlier release kasi di naman kami nagmamadali nun. Pero I remember clearly that they mentioned it.

Yen

Hi, if in case the application for visa denied, how long can reapply?

Hi Yen, ang alam ko wala namang wait period. Not sure but I think you can apply again anytime as soon as you have new docs to submit. If same set of docs pa rin, it will be denied pa rin.

You can also try applying via another embassy but syempre, iba yung rules and process nila.

Thank you so much for the info!

Jennifer

Do I need to go to Manila to apply for a visa? Is there an accredited agency is Cebu?

Arvin

ok lang ba walang business financial statement kapag freelancer?

Hi Arvin, not sure how strict sila ngayon. But if may kulang, be prepared lang to submit other supporting documents as alternative to prove income and employment.

Hi! For the sss contributions in the requirements part, how many months should it cover?

Hi K-anne, wala silang sinabi kung ilang months, pero 6 months probably is ideal.

Kamela

Hi! would like to ask if may papakita bang proof na appointment date mo yun? i mean may confirmation or letter that i should print once i confirm the appointment date?

Hi Kamela, we printed ung email convo namin with them, but they didn’t check. We just showed up at the time we were told and registered on their log sheet.

K-anne

I already did my interview October 18, 2018. The consul told me he’d give me the visa. I hope he’s telling the truth hehe. So i was told to claim it after 7 days. Is it 7 days or 7 working days??

Hi K-anne, yep, if sinabi sayo na approved na, approved na yan. :)

Working days ung sabi sa amin dati. :D

Carla

Hi. For that date of departure is that from the philippines or when leaving greece?

Departure from PH.

If I’ll be leaving on Sept 9, 2019, and is granted an interview on June 15, 2019, when do you suggest should I reserve for my plane tickets and hotel using the agency you mentioned?

A week before your interview. And ask them to send you the flight reservation the day before the interview.

Thank you so much!

Rex Wong

Hi, napaka helpful ng blog niyo. Very informative. We just lodged our application last week. 8 po kaming lahat. We were expecting for an interview pero sabi ng tumanggap ng documents namin na “no need to interview”. Does it mean na ok na po documents na pinasa namin and our application for visa is approved?

Hi Rex, naku, di ko alam. Lahat kasi nung kasabayan namin nag-apply, nag-interview. :(

tin

hello po. do i need to personally claim my passport if visa is granted? or pwd ba thru courier like?

Hi Tin, naku, sorry, di ko na matandaan if may courier service sila. :(

tacs

mandatory ba ang travel insurance?

Abbey C.

Hi. We’re planning a Rome-Greece trip on April. Our first destination is Rome (4days) then fly to Athens after. Is it correct that we should lodge our visa application through Greek Embassy, since it is where we will be staying the most, even if our point of entry is in Rome, Italy? Is it also okay if we fly out from Singapore to Rome via major airlines? Thanks in advance. Glad to have discovered your site, as this is quite helpful for me in planning our trip. Thanks again!

Hi Abbey, yep, if you’re staying longer (most number of days) in Greece, you should apply at the Greek Embassy.

Yep, okay lang to fly from Singapore. For our Athens trip, we flew from Singapore too. :D

Hi Yoshke! I’ve been invited by a Portugese company to attend a workshop in Portugal on March 17, 2018. So I emailed them last week as soon as I received my invitation letter to set an appointment for submission of requirements. They just replied today. Problem is, the set date for me is on March 7, 2018. Isn’t that cutting it too close? Plus ang mahal na kumuha ng flights that close to the travel dates, if ever maapprove. Although, mejo confident naman ako sa pag-apply dahil this is my second time applying for a schengen visa through an invitation from a Schengen-state company and nakarami naman na akong visa from G20 countries. Pero, nakakastress parin. Would it be ok if I request them to move up my schedule?

Hi Jojee! Yep, it might be too close.

In our case, when we applied dati, we politely asked them to consider moving us up in case a slot reopens. Thankfully, may nag-open nga ng slots so we were able to have an earlier appointment.

JOjee

hayz, sana nga may mag-open ng slot. But I did email them back already requesting for an earlier slot. Huhu. Thanks ulit!

Kristine

Hi! how early can you apply for a schengen visa with the Greek embassy? our trip is on nov 21, 2019. our first stop is greece then we will exit via istanbul, turkey. we will only be visiting greece and turkey. can we apply 6 mos before the trip? Thanks.

Hi Kristine, I think 6 months before is okay because it’s hard to get an appointment these days, so the earlier the better I think.

Ok. Thanks! By the way, for the required docs, i guess if you only have an ATM savings account you just need to present the bank cert and bank statement, right? since there was no passbook issued?

Yep, kung wala ka namang passbook talaga. Explain mo na lang dun or sulat ka ng explanation letter.

Ok, thanks! Another question, regarding the request for appointment. Would you know how early you can request for an appointment? For example, your preferred schedule is April 30. Can you email the embassy at least 3 months before like on Jan 30 to request for an appointment? Just to make sure it is available.

Hi kristine, yes, 3 months before the trip isn’t too early considering that the appointment slots fill up fast lately. So yep, it’s okay.

yor

hi. pwd po bang by mail ang pagblik ng passport back to the applicant or thru s representative?

Ang tanda ko, pick up lang. Pwede yata representative pero di ko alam ano requirement. Authorization letter siguro and ID.

Jojee here again. When you asked about an earlier appointment how long did it take for them to reply for an opening in an earlier sched? I’m really worried about my application date as my flight dates are on March 17 and they gave me March 7 as appointment. :( I accepted the date but requested that I be moved up the calendar just in case a slot opens.

less than 1 week. Nagkataon lang yata na may nag-cancel ng appointment.

Grace

I have an upcoming trip to Portugal and I was invited by a friend. My friend sent me a termo de responsabilidade through mail, but it arrived later than my appointment schedule, and so I had to cancel my appointment. The thing is that the travel dates indicated in the termo de responsabilidade could not anymore be accommodated due to the changes in the appointment. My question is if I can still use the termo de responsabilidade provided to me, or do I need to request another one indicating the new travel dates. If you have any idea on this matter, it will be very helpful. Thanks so much!

Hi Grace, I don’t know for sure, but if I were in your shoes, I would ask for a new one from my friend.

Hi! Thank you for your reply. The embassy accepted the Termo de Responsabilidade as it was stated in the invitation letter the reason of the change of travel dates. However, my application was denied (over the phone) for the reason that I do not have an ITR although I provided a copy of my certificate of registration. I registered as a professional Feb 2019, and the earliest ITR I can get will be on April for the first quarter of the year. My supposed travel date will be on the 27th of March :(

Should I make an appeal stating the facts that I will have an ITR not earlier than April 2019, or do you think I should just accept the rejection and reapply?

Thanks so much!

Hi Grace, I think the problem that they saw was that your “business/employment” is too young. You said you only registered February this year? It gives the impression that you only registered for the purpose of visa application, which is a big red flag.

What was your work before you became a registered professional? Did you have other employment history? In 2017-2018, did you have work? And if you did, where?

I started working part time jobs online after 2014. For the years 2017 to early 2018, I was employed full time by an Australian company – home based yung work. I changed company June of 2018 which is also my present employer.

Big factor for registering as a Professional was for the visa application talaga :( In this case, do you think I should re-apply as soon as I filed my first ITR on April 2019 as a professional?

Hi Grace, in my opinion, even if you have an ITR in April, I don’t think it would change their minds because it will still appear that you registered just to apply.

If you decide to apply again, what I think you have to establish is that you have been working a long time. For that, you would need to present proof that you have been working, even if it’s online. Get certificates of engagement/employment from your clients abroad, copies of your invoices, and copies of your contracts with them.

It doesn’t guarantee anything, but that would address your employment issues.

But again please note that they’re tougher on applicants invited by someone na hindi immediate family. Doon pa lang, medyo malabo na yung case mo. That’s why most people who can support the trip financially apply as tourists kahit na invited sila. It’s safer kasi and less complicated.

Rachel

Hi ..i am employed in a private school and my salary is low and my bank statement is zero balance..But i have an investment but effectively last 2 months not saving enough money but i request to the Manulife for visa application for my document it is enough for my financial documents and i have a sponsor he send me the invitation letter and his id but his bank statement not send me he say that its ok for invitation letter only coz he write the letter all expenses he shoulder..its ok that invitation letter and id came from the sponsor.

Hihingin pa rin nila yung sarili mong financial docs kahit may sponsor ka. Saan ba based ang sponsor mo? And how are you related?

Hi…he is a Portuguess….pano yon if zero balance need q p rin ba kumuha ng bank staement ..

Malabong malabo po kayo na maapprove pag ganyan.

Hi..sorry im here again.ok lng po ba magdeposit ng money this month and after i get the bank statement before the interview .thank you..

Hi Rachel, if bigla kang nag-deposit ng malaking pera, the embassy might find it suspicious kasi lalabas yun sa bank statement mo. Hindi rin maganda yun sa paningin ng embassy. The reason they need to check the bank statement is to see if you’re financially capable and stable.

Baka makatulong na basahin muna itong post na ito lalo na yung #3 and #6: https://www.thepoortraveler.net/2018/08/visa-denied-reasons/

arjaytan

Hey! I just followed your IG! :)

I’m planning a Portugal trip… how soon should i process my visa? Will they approve if let’s say i process my visa this April but my trip is in Sep?

You can request for a schedule in April. If hindi naman possible, they will let you know. Pero try mo na lang din, kasi last year, sobrang ang bilis napuno nung calendar nila.

Rich

Gene

Hi. This is regarding the payment process for the Greece Schengen visa.

I’m from Cebu, can I pay the 60 EURO at any BDO branch in Cebu City?

What was mentioned in your blog:

Pay the visa fee at the BDO Branch in the opposite building. Visa fee is 60 EURO, but you will be paying this in pesos. (When I applied, it was P3600.) There should be four copies of the transaction slip. One will be left with the bank, two will be submitted to the embassy, and the final copy is yours to keep.

Still related to visa payment, can you also please give some information as to the name that should be written on the BDO deposit slip?

Hoping to hear fro you the soonest.

But are you applying in Manila? I think it’s best to just pay at the BDO branch in front of the embassy because the bank staff knows the process already. They will automatically give you four copies instead of the usual 2 copies.

I don’t remember the account name and number. But it’s posted on the bulletin board at the embassy.

It’s me again! Is it ok to staple documents that are grouped together? Or better na unstapled ang docs? The ITR submitted should be original? Or pedeng photocopy as you said ibabalik naman the copies? Will be applying for my Portugal-Schengen Visa this coming week. Sana maapprove agad as my training is just two weeks away :( yun kasi ang schedule na binigay huhu

Hi Jojee, yung sa amin ay unstapled ang docs.

Yung ITR na sinubmit ko ay original tapos binalik lang. Dalhin mo na lang yung original para macheck nila.

RN

Dear Yoshke,

I would like to thank and commend you for the article you wrote on the application for a Schengen visa from rhe Embassy of Greece in the Philippines. All the information was on point! It was super informative and helpful . Becaue of your pointers, my family’s application went smoothly.

Regards, RN

Yay! Thanks, RN! Approved na kayo?

Just wanted to update you! I got my visa today after only 5 working days. Napamahal lang ako ng onti sa tickets dahil malapit na ang alis. :) I’m leaving on Sunday! Thank you for all the tips and prompt replies!

Yayyy! Ang bilis nga!!! Congrats!!! :D

Johanna

Hello Yoshke,

Thank you for your information above.

I am planning to go to Greece for company event 23 May -entry date. I sent/ emailed my appointment request last 04 Mar then re-sent 11 Mar but I haven’t got their reply. Is it too early or would you know why there’s no response?

Thank you in advance for any input you have. God bless!

Hi Johanna, it really takes time for them to reply. :)

marie

Hello Sir Yoshke!

Thank you for your helpful blog. I just want to ask if how did you make your itinerary? because I also get my ticket reservation and travel insurance from Gazelle as you recommend them but they said that I can get my ticket night before my visa appointment. I am just worried how to make the itinerary possible since I do not know my lay over/s going to Portugal and I might be rushed if I make the itinerary night before my visa appointment. Hoping for your reply. Thank you! :)

Hi Marie, you can choose naman na the flights early tapos they can send the reservation the day before. Pero pwede ka na pumili ng flights in advance para makagawa ka na ng itinerary.

Trish

Good day! What if you do not need Hotel reservations anymore and you are staying with a friend? What do you submit to prove that you do not need hotel reservations anymore?

See documents under “12. If applicant is invited by someone in Greece” above. Alisin mo lang yung proof of hotel reservation kasi di nag-aapply sayo.

Do I also submit the original documents in the long brown envelope during the interview or photocopies only?

Hi Trish, in my experience, I put both original and photocopies in an envelope. The staff collected then assessed all of it, then when we were called, they returned the original copies of some documents. I think for documents like business registration or land titles, they’ll just check if the photocopies match tapos ibabalik din talaga nila ung original.

May Legaspina

Hello I am x abroad from grece for 6 yrs but I stay there illigal my previous emplyer wants me to go back is there a prossible to go back thank you

Hi May, di ko po alam. Pero baka mahirapan po kayo if may record na kayo.

bem

Hello, Do I need to provide a detailed itinerary if I will be staying in Greece for 3 months-sponsored by my partner. or its not applicable. Also, does he need to provide bank statement too?or tax declaration form would be okay?

BTW,my last ITR was for 2017 because since last year I am working online and I don’t have the latest ITR,would that be okay? I’m confused. Please help..Thanks

Thanks for the reply Yoshke,i sent an email for my application and still waiting for their reply. Which insurance company would you recommend for a three months stay?

Hi Bem, I can’t really recommend an insurance company because, thankfully, we never had to use it or file a claim. But we used Pacific Cross for our application.

That’s what we used but I can’t really say I recommend it because the most important part of insurance is the ease of claim.

Bem

Thank you Yoshke, another question please.haha,i have this bank account for almost ten years now, same account for my other visa applications..but i stopped working as of 2017 and the funds are not the same as before. i started working again 2018 until now but its not as much as i had before..do you think they will question my account balance? Again, this account is active ever since and there’s transaction every now and then.. thanks so much for answering all my questions.

Normal lang naman na nababawasan ang account. If sufficient pa rin naman ung funds, pwede pa rin naman.

Mutya

Hi, i will be travelling solo. Will it be a red flag? I can provide all the requirements. I’m also currently employed for 13yrs in the same company. I’m just anxious if a female, flying solo will be a red flag. I plan to go to Greece and Netherlands.

Hi Mutya, if you can prove your rootedness, you can prove you can financially support the trip, and you don’t know anyone in Europe, there’s still a good chance of approval. :)

Emy Lee

hello po.. ask q lang po if pano po kung not employed aq then my bank acct aq dati nung my work pko but its almost 5 mos ago.wala n kc aq work now then wla aq bank acct now.pero all expense nman is from my greek friend.possible po b un na maapprove aq??

Hi Emy, red flag sa kanila kapag unemployed tapos sponsored by someone in Europe. :S

Ericka

Hi Yoske, thank you for this aricle! It is very informative :) I have a question tho, do you think it’s okay if we apply for our visa via the Greek Embassy because its our point of entry but we’re going to stay the longest in France? Thanks :)

No po. If you’re staying the longest in France, sa French Embassy dapat.

Thank you, I guess we’ll tweak our plan na lang because we prefer sana yung may interview for visa so we can explain things. Thanks, again! Your blog has been very helping for planning our trips :)

Okie! Good luck, Ericka!

Aly

Hi Yoshke. I sent an email for an appointment schedule last March 29, but I didn’t get a confirmation or acknowledgment that it was received. I waited a few days before making a follow up last April 9, but then I got an auto reply saying that they will reply to my request as soon as possible. It’s almost a month since my first email but they still haven’t replied to me with an appointment date. How long did you wait before they came back to you with a set date? Anyone here also experiencing the same recently? My flight is on June 15 and the nearer the date gets without any response from them, my anxiety is getting worse too. What if I only get a response from them in May or early June saying that they couldn’t accommodate me and it would be too late to change our itinerary and try another embassy :(

Bem

Same issue here Ally.still waiting for their reply. :( I sent my second request after two weeks of waiting. I’m planning to leave on June 15th too. Please post any update if you get any reply from them..thanks!

Hi, Bem. They sent me an email yesterday. I guess May slots aren’t really filled up after all. My appointment is Friday next week so I have 1 week to prepare. When did you send your request?

I sent my first email April 2 for May 10th schedule..i haven’t heard from them til now.

Lee

Hi, Any update on this one? Nagreply na po ba sila regarding sa appointment? I also have same issue here, I emailed them May 16, until now no updated for my appointment huhu. I’m planning to leave also on June 15 :(

I hope they responded to you with an appointment date by now. I was there last Friday and I think 20-25 applicants lang talaga kaya nila per hour.

Hi Aly, ours only took a few days. But it was in October, so baka mas konti ung applications nun. Peak season na rin kasi.

I dunno how to help you though. :(

You can try posting sa Support Group namin, baka may iba pang applicants who have experienced the same: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thepoortraveler/

Thanks for replying. So, I called them today. Apparently, they’re still reading emails from March 1 that’s why they still haven’t replied yet. They also said April and May schedules are full. I think it’s impossible now for me to get a slot before my June 15 flight. :(

Hi Aly, In your email requesting for an appointment, what did you put in the SUBJECT? I just stated “VISA APPOINTMENT REQUEST.” Then this morning I found a blog saying that you should indicate the surname of the applicant like if it is individual, “INDIVIDUAL SANTOS.” Or if it is a group, the surnames of the applicants in the group, “GROUP SANTOS; CRUZ.”

Hi Aly, that’s too bad. But thanks for sharing this.

You can apply through another embassy, but you need to adjust/change your itinerary.

Hi, Yoshke. They replied finally and the earliest sched they could give me is Friday next week! It was 27 days of waiting, so patience nga talaga kailangan during peak season. Thanks for this blog! I think I read everything more than 3 times just to be sure I didn’t miss anything.

Yay! Finally! Make sure you have all the requirements and answer their questions during the interview consistently and confidently. Good luck!

Hi, was wondering what if you don’t have a PH passbook? I only have PH debit cards but no passbook. Can I just submit a bankbook and bank certificate?

Also, I have a passbook but it’s from my Taiwan Bank Account. Can I also use my Taiwan Bank account as one of my financial proofs?

Hi Eunice, I think it’s okay if you really don’t have passbook. The bank statement shows the same content anyway.

Thank you Yoshke, another question is: I’ve been denied of a Schengen Visa 2 years ago but I applied in a different embassy (Denmark/Sweden). I am a little bit worried that my previous rejection will affect my new application.

Also, I just got back from Taiwan (I have TW tax Certificate for the year 2018-2019) and I’ve been relocated back here in PH but in a different company –sister company of my former company in TW, so my tenure is retained and I’ll make sure that it will be stated in my COE. Will this be okay? I am just worried they might have a lot of questions regarding my employment.

Regarding previous denial, there’s a chance of it affecting your application, but I know some people who were denied before but were granted a visa the next time. Just don’t make the same mistakes and make sure you have a stronger case this time.

Regarding employment, I dunno. :(

sorry, I meant “can I just submit a bank statement and bank certificate?”

hi. do you have idea about connecting flights in Athens, different airlines. is visa required?

Hi Yor, if need mong mag-exit ng immigration, like in most cases pag magkaiba ng airlines, you need a visa.

marie

May I ask if you were interviewed? Because earlier, I came from the Greek embassy to complete my papers that they asked to pass asap since I forgot to pass the residence visa of my cousin living in Portugal with my appointment (April 23). And then I told that I haven’t done with the interview yet, then the employee said “Maam, iniinterviewhin lang po kayo pag questionable or may kulang po sa requirements niyo. Balik ka nalang po sa date na binigay namin for releasing the visa”. I am just confused with NO INTERVIEW huhu I doesn’t know if that’s possible. I hope you can lighten me up hehe thank you in advance!

Hi, Marie. Same! I also got confused why they didn’t interview me. I was reading this blog and the experiences of others, too. Lahat sila, they mentioned an interview. Maybe they don’t require it if you’re applying for Portugal? But it’s good to know I’m not alone. :)

Hi Marie, I was interviewed. Maybe they don’t interview everyone anymore because of the volume of applications? I dunno.

Aileen Tan

many thanks for the detailed info! very helpful. by the way, 2 days after receiving the acknowledgment for the visa appointment email there is no further response from the greek embassy. It means I have to continue waiting until they confirm what date I can go to them, right? Or, does it mean I should be at the embassy on the preferred date I put in the email to them? pasensiya kung makulit. :) worried lang talaga. thank you in advance!

I think you should wait for a confirmation. Pero ano bang sabi dun sa acknowledgment message nila?

Lee

Hi. Usually ilang days po bago sila magreply ng schedule ng appointment? 7 days na po yung sken pero wala pa din po silang update.

Marco

Hi there a couple of questions to this forum. I worked in Singapore for 8 years then did a 6 month holiday in South Africa. I came back to Philippines in Jan 2019 and am leasing a business in Siargao Island. My contract is till January 2020 and is renewable. So here are my questions.

1. Financial means – can it be a Singapore bank account or must it be a Philippines bank account? 2. Financial means – what exactly is required for the formal bank certificate addressed to the consular section? 3. Financial means – what if I use my Singapore bank account which does not have a bank book. Does that matter? 4. Financial means – what if I do not have an ITR? Can I say its because I have not been back in the Philippines for a full financial year yet? 5. Employment status – I do not own the business so am I an employee or am I self employed? I could get things like the business permit, company registration, GIS and company ITR from the owner but not sure if this is all relevant. You also mention a company financial statement is needed but the Greek embassy does not seem to ask for it

We sent a message to the website asking for an appointment but one week later we do not have it yet. We will also spend time in Netherlands so we could split our trip between Netherlands and Portugal differently if it is easier to apply at the Dutch embassy. What do you think?

Hi Marco, I don’t know the answer to your questions. :( I think if you are to use a foreign bank account but you must explain it in a letter so it’s clear. But i don’t know for sure.

I haven’t tried applying via the Dutch embassy, but from what I heard from friends and members of our support group, it’s easier.

Ellen

HI. My boyfriend and I, with his brother and sister will be travelling to Athens this July 19. Iisponsor sana kaming tatlo ng sister ng bf ko. She is a US Passport Holder. Okay lang ba yun? Hindi Greek Citizen ung sponsor? We have already traveled to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong, Macau and Japan. Sya lahat nagsponsor and kasama namin sya palagi. Sa Japan Visa namin, bank accounts, ITR and other documents nya sinubmit namin. Ang problem ko po yung bank account ko kasi 7k to 15k lang po ang laman nito. I can provide Income Tax Return and COE, Credit card statements, investment, etc. Okay lang ba na hindi na ko magpasa? My bf and his brother can provide naman ako lang talaga hindi. Pano po kaya ito? Thank you very much!

Hi Ellen, naku, di ko po alam ang mga rules nila kapag sponsored po ang trip. :(

Hi. I emailed the Greek embassy last May 28. I immediately got an acknowledgment email from them saying they will.reply to me the soonest. Haven’t heard from them since then. In your opinion, how many days should I wait before I call the embassy or send a follow up email? Also, in their acknowledgment email they said that i should not send the same email twice to help them decongest their email.

Hi Kristine, hard for me to say. It seems like ang dami kasi talagang nag-aapply sa kanila lately. When we applied kasi, within the week may schedule na kami.

Finally they replied! I called them this afternoon and mabait naman nakausap ko. She said that i give them until monday to reply. Pero after a few hours nag email na and yung date na nirequest namin ang binigay. I think recommended na request for an appointment at least 3 months before your preferred date para yun ang ibigay at di din gahol sa oras. I emailed them may 28 for an aug 29 sked. :-)

Thanks for sharing, Kristine! Buti naman ok na. Good luck with your application!

Mary Ann

Hello Yoshke and Kristine.

Thanks for your concern.

Yes, my son and his companion were given a JULY 4 interview sked. I requested for an earlier slot but the embassy didn’t reply anymore.

We requested the organizing committee for the Lisbon Meeting to send an email directly to the Greek Embassy, and they did. Hopefully, plus factor un for visa approval.

ETD of my son is JULY 22. OMG! Ang airfare! Anyways just praying lumabas ng maaga visa nila.

Balitaan ko kayo what will happen next.

By the way Yoshke, mine is for Portugal visa application. If ever this will come out successful, I will surely share it with you.

Thanks, Mary Ann! Yes, please share para makatulong din sa ibang magbabasa. :)

Thanks! magshare uli ako after our interview and after we get our passports (with visas hopefully). sana naman ok kasi this is my 3rd schengen visa if ever.. i hurdled france twice naman so sana di ako pahirapan ni greece. :-) and hopefully we get a longer validity. but that may not be possible kasi sa mga nababasa ko usually enough for the travel lang ang binibigay. :-P

P.S. comic sans talaga ang font ng application form nila??? haha

Hi Kristine, yayyy! please share your experience after para may insights din for other applicants. ☺️

And yeeepppp! Comic sans talaga!

Another issue, the list of the supporting documents found on the embassy website is just a list. Unlike the one in the link for self-checklist you provided which requires a signature at the bottom. I am not sure now which to attach to my application.

by the way, it has been a week since I got the auto-generated acknowledgment email and they have not yet emailed to confirm my appointment request. :-(

Same situation here. Nag email ako May 16, got the acknowledgement email the day after. Hanggang ngayon wala pa din appointment na binibigay. Tumawag ako kahapon, at parang di pa din nila nababasa yung email ko kasi hahanapin pa daw nila. :(

Ok yung nakausap ko when i called… she noted my name and i guess hinanap nya kasi after a few hours nag email na… sabi pa nga nya that i give them until monday to reply (thurs na). And they gave me the date i requested kasi it is for august pa naman so madami pa slots.

Hi Mary Ann. Were you able to contact the embassy? what did they say?

Hi Krisitine. Hello Yosh.

Same here. Emailed them for days, received the acknowledgment email right after and that is it. Haven’t heard from them since then.

Can you please kindly give me the contact number of the Greece Embassy? I will try to call them to follow up on my son’s application.

My son requested for a June 20 application date. And that is already next week ! It is very important for him to get a schedule because he must depart Manila before July 25 to attend a conference organized by the Phythochemical Society of Europe. He and his prof received an invite to present their thesis.

Hope makahabol ang visa coz this is a once in a lifetime experience for my son. He really worked hard for it. Sayang if he can’t attend.

Thank you so much. Thank you Krisitne. Thank you Yosh.

Hi Mary Ann,

Here’s their number: (02) 817 4444

Parang kinakabahan din ako for you kasi malapit na yung trip. :S Good luck!

Hi! About the self-checklist, while the link you provided can still be clicked, I can’t seem to find it the same list in the embassy’s website… in the checklist, it requires photocopies of all documents… but in the website, it does not seem to be a requirement… the link found there is only a plain list unlike the self-checklist….so I am not sure now if I need to attach a self-checklist and one set of photocopies. here’s the link: https://www.mfa.gr/missionsabroad/en/visas.html?mission=mnl&mis=philippines

if you click the link in the “supporting documents” portion under ‘”LODGING OF VISA APPLICATION,” the list is not the same list as that in the self-checklist.

i am now confused.

Hi Kristine, as mentioned in the post, I’m not sure if photocopies are still required. Like you said, it is no longer in the list, but it was when I applied. However, I still recommend that you produce photocopies especially of your visas or stamps, for good measure. Better have it and not need it, that don’t have it then need it. Or call the embassy na lang ulit.

I rearranged na lang the post and explained it better to clarify. :D

Ok. Thanks! Better to be ready with them in case the embassy requires them… Thanks again!

Let us know rin if hiningan ka or hindi na para ma-dagdag din dito sa post. Thankkk youuuu! :)

I agree with Kristine. The updated requirements in the Greek Embassy website are much simpler than the ones on the checklist.

Yosh, about the photocopies of old passports, visas and stamps. My son has 4 old passports and a lot of visas and stamps. Does that mean we need to photocopy ever page?

What are those stamps? Are those the Entry and Exit stamps?

Hi Mary Ann, yes, photocopy of stamps and visas. We were even instructed to make sure that the photocopies were in the same order as they were in the original passport.

Best to just call the embassy to ask if they still require it.

Dany Neil P. Alejandro

Hello po I’m a fan from IG. Is it possible to call the Greek Embassy regarding an earlier appointment available? I requested last June 13 for a July 08 appointment but was given August 28 as the earliest. However I have a friend who just requested last week for an August 08 appointment and she got the exact date she requested while I was stuck waiting for two months before my appointment. The reason I wanted an earlier date is because of the free cancellation date of one of my hotel bookings (Aug 26) and my travel date is on September 24.

Hi Dany, yes, you may call naman. Baka may nag-free up lang na sked after mo magpa-sked so your friend was able to get an earlier slot.

Hi again. Tumawag ako sa embassy kanina, and nabigyan na din ng appoinment and the earliest daw e July 4. 1 month of wating. Buti nalang din tumawag ako kasi wala tlga sila update. Nagbakasakali lang din tlga ako knina.

Hi Lee! Hindi ka talaga nabigyan ng appointment through email kaya nung tumawag ka sa call ka nadin binigyan ng schedule? I saw in your previous posts na June 15 dapat ang intended departure mo, does that mean you changed your plans because of the visa appointment? I emailed them kasi on July 17 tapos July 31 na sila nagreply at ang earliest appointment daw is October 2! Eh ang departure namin Oct 13. :( I’m so worried and we’re thinking sobrang tight na yun at wala na yung free cancellation ng hotel bookings namin by Oct 2 which means kung ma-approve, sobrang mahal na nila. Huhuhu… hoping you can share your experience and ilang days until nareceive mo ang passport. Thanks!!

Hello po Magtanong lang opo sana ako about travel insurance.Kasi i have invitation letter already from my sponsor and letter for sponsorship to prove na sagot nya lahat. What if like me have sponsor about my travel, and all my expenses, foods and accomodation all are covered sa sponsor KO.do i need to have that travel insurance in my bank account during my interview for applying schengen visa?

Hi Liez, I’m not sure I understand your question.

But if you’re asking kung need ba talaga ng travel insurance, yes, need talaga ng travel insurance. Mandatory un. Pero di naman yun nilalagay sa bank account.

Be warned though na sponsored applications have greater risk of denial. Read more here: https://www.thepoortraveler.net/2019/07/visa-immigration-boyfriend-girlfriend/

Donna

Hello! I would like to ask what if it will be my first time to travel internationally and it will be a Schengen country which is Greece, is there a high possibility that my visa will be denied if I apply? I wanted to visit Greece without having to travel 3-4 countries sana.

It can raise some questions, but it depends on the circumstances like what the purpose of your trip is and who you will be traveling with.

Jamison Gerrity

Can you recommend a travel agency to help with my visa application?

Hi Jamison, try Constellation Travels in Makati. Their Head of Visa Operations used to work as a Visa Officer at a Schengen embassy, so they’re very familiar with what to watch out for.

Cec

Hi! For the flight reservations, will they verify the bookings online?

Hi Yoshke! Were you informed by the embassy that your visa was approved hence the timeline that includes visa issuance? Or did you only get that information on your visa after they’ve returned your passport? Thank you!

We only got that info after we claimed our passport. Although we received a message saying that our passport was ready for pick up, they didn’t mention the result.

Our appointment is next week. We are booked as a group (group of 2). However, my companion has not started preparing her requirements so she thinks she might not be able to submit on our appointment date.

I hope the embassy will accommodate me even if it is only me who will show up. What do you think?

Hi Kristine,

I think they will still accommodate you. But you can call them to confirm.

Sheryl M.

Konti lng pala un requirements para sa minor na mag ta travel here in Greece. Are ghe requirements need to be authenticated?

Hi ! As promised, I will share my schengen visa application with the Greek Embassy.

As I previously shared, I emailed the embassy around 3 months from my preferred appointment date which was August 29 (around 3 months from our departure date on Nov 21). I emailed them twice actually. The first was in the last week of May to which the embassy replied with an acknowledgment. The subject of the email is VISA APPOINTMENT REQUEST. Then I read a travel blog saying that the subject of the email should indicate the surnames if it is a group booking, So I emailed them again on June 4 with the subject indicating our surnames. Again, an acknowledgment email was sent to me.

Since I was anxious, I called the embassy on June 6, The nice girl from the embassy noted our surnames and promised that she will look into our email. Within a matter of hours, I got an email saying that the earliest available appointment schedule is August 29, 11 am. And that I have to confirm within 72 hours otherwise, our slot will be forfeited. I immediately confirmed our slot.

On August 29, we went to the embassy. Upon entering the visa section, you need to log in. The log in sheet will serve as the sequence for acceptance of application. The Filipina girls receiving the application were all nice and friendly. Unlike some Filipinas receiving the application at the VFS France. Snooty yung iba. Hehe… They were polite and courteous to all applicants.. After receiving our documents, they provided us a deposit slip (4 copies) for the visa fee to be paid at the BDO branch across SEDCO bldg,

After submitting the deposit slip, we waited for our turn for the photo and biometrics, I thought they were not taking our biometrics since they were taken within the last 5 years.

After a few minutes, we were given our visa application receipts with a note that our passports will be ready for pick up on September 6.

Releasing of passports is strictly from 230 pm to 330 pm. So on Sep 6, I went to the embassy a few minutes before 230 pm. Apparently you can go up to the visa section much earlier because they were already at least 10 people waiting there when I arrived. I finished a little past 3 pm.

For my 4-day Greece trip ( we will go to Turkey after), I was given a 28-day multiple entry with no more than 13 day-duration per stay.

Yes, it is 28 days, not 20, not 30. And it’s 13, not 10 not 15. Haha! I don’t know what’s the basis of the random numbers.

Thanks Yoshke and all the other travelers for your tips and insights! I hope my experience can help others too.

Thanks for sharing, Kristine! I took note of the changes din.

This will surely help other applicants! :)

April

Any idea if pwede representative ang mag claim ng passport/visa? thanks

yup pwede pa din. authorized representative should just bring an authorization letter, photocopy of the applicant’s ID and the rep’s ID and of course the application receipt. :-)

Nung time namin, we were told na pwede basta may authorization letter, copy ng ID, and ung claim slip. Di ko lang alam ngayon. You may call them to check.

Jill

If you’re planning to stay in multiple Schengen countries for exactly the same number of days rin lang and you can apply from other embassies na member ng Schengen, I’d rather not go sa Greek embassy. In my opinion, they’re very unorganized and most staff were rude, especially the guard. A friend even had to sleep sa car (galing siyang province) kasi kahit may appointment siya, hindi nila in-accomodate. Same thing with what happened to me.

Mern

Hello! I sent email last October 10 for schedule got a confirmation reply pero wala pa din schedule until today October 19 :(

Hi Mern, have you tried calling the embassy for follow up?

I call yesterday afternoon to follow up, nag reply na sila ng gabi December 10 pa yung available slot.

Pat

I wanted to share my experience applying for a visa recently in hopes it would help others as this blog has done for me.

Aug 7, 2019 – Sent appointment request for a Nov 5, 2019 departure Aug 23, 2019 – Received confirmation for an Oct 21 appt which was the earliest one available. Accepted schedule but requested an earlier appt. Sep 30, 2019 – Received email with an earlier schedule for Oct 18 and accepted. Oct 12, 2019 – Received another email rescheduling appt for Oct 24. The old appt referenced was Oct 21. Clarified that I accepted the latest appt for Oct 18 and didn’t readily accept the schedule change. Almost 72 hours after and no reply, I accepted the Oct 24 appt anyway.

Oct 24 – Submitted requirements at the embassy. They took my picture. No interview and biometric collection. Paid 3,420 (latest rate) at the BDO branch across the street. Was asked to submit a copy of my payslips for 3-6 mos either the next day (Oct 25) or Tue (Oct 29). They were closed on Oct 28 (Greek holiday). This was my 3rd Schengen application but 1st time applying through the Greek Embassy and I’ve never had to submit a copy of my payslips prior. Release date was Oct 31 with a note indicating there was no guarantee that my passport would be available by then. The lady said to try again on Nov 4 in case they’re unable to release my passport by Oct 31. Nov 1 was a holiday.

Oct 30 – The embassy called me past 2pm asking if I was around the area so I can pick up my passport as they will be closed the next day. There was no prior advice about this so I assumed it was a last-minute change. Business hours was until 5pm. Fortunately, I happened to still be in Makati and immediately rushed to the embassy.

Was granted a single-entry visa good for 15 days upon entry. My itinerary is for 12 days.

All in all, I was concerned with how close my departure date was in relation to the appt I was given even though I requested an appt with an almost 3-month lead time and the no-guarantee release date being a couple of days away from when I’m supposed to leave. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end.

Thanks for sharing, Pat!

We’ll update the rate na rin dito sa post!

MM

I have two questions to ask:

1) Is it really hard to get through their contact number in the Greek embassy? I’ve been trying to reach them but all I get are recorded operators and when I finally dial 11 to connect to a staff it just keeps ringing and the call gets hung. What are your experiences calling their contact number?

2) I wanted a follow up regarding my request appointment because it had been two weeks already and I’ve received no confirmations yet. Approximately how long does it take to receive their confirmation?

The most recent account that we had was from the previous commenter. (See the comment just above yours.)

She shared her application timeline. It also took them over 2 weeks to reply to her.

Cha

I asked regarding my appointment date before here buti nalang I called them like what you told me and the earliest possible interview date na binigay sakin was December 5. Thank you!

I have a question again since I don’t have my ITR because I am new to business (well actually GRAB business kasi need sa LTFRB iregister) and I know I need to make a cover letter for this. My problem is I can only provide 3 months of my bank account statement since I just recently registered to BIR and decided to open a new bank account together with my savings. Do i need to make a cover letter for that explaining why not 6 months of my bank statement? or should i just put it in one cover letter like sa ITR explanation ko? I just wanted to be ready on the December 5. Thank you again for the help. After this I can share experience with you. I am actually going to Portugal so I hope it will help others as well.

You can explain everything you need to explain in one letter.

But if may hindi ka masasatisfy, make sure you make up for it by providing other supporting documents (other proof of income). Hihingin kasi nila yun. Might as well come prepared na. To be honest, pag may kulang pagdating sa bank, nasa disadvantage ka talaga so dapat may iba ka pang bala.

Your recommended agency is not that helpful at all. Well replying must be so hard for them. I am not sure after they got the money and done with the services tapos na sila sayo. I was asking for a small help and advice since It’s my first time. Yun nga No repy. I mean late reply is not a problem at all. I went to another agency which is so helpful kahit nag bayad pa ako ulit. I am also not sure if it depends on the person handling kasi i talked with 2 people. Anyway. I would really not recommend it to other people.

Thanks for raising this. We’ll share this feedback with them.

Hi thank you for this! I actually got the 15 days visa and I just got back from my trip from Porto, Portugal.

I want to share my experience with you because your blog helped me a lot since first time ko lang mag apply.

-I have no ITR (made a letter explaining why i don’t have it since bago lang business ko) -3 months bank account with just 100k ang laman for 15 days without flight ticket eh that was December 13 and my flight is on the 21st. Lol -I am self employed. I think being self employed is in favor with the consul because he emphasized it that its good that i have a business (kahit nga new business lang yun). I also showed all the assets that I have. -I also had an interview with the consul. I think depende sa pag usap niyo ng consul. I was making chika to him it doesn’t feel like an interview and you have to be really just confident with all of your answers. He didn’t even asked me a about my papers nag browse through lang siya. It was a fun interview! He made sure I will get the visa on that day. I was so happy!

Sharing this as well when I was waiting at the embassy. The lady started talking to me maybe shes in her 50s, 60s and shes going on a trip with 2 girls like same age as me in their 30’s. They are going on a package tour Greece-France-Italy i think for 15 days. Kwento niya they were interviewed altogether pero yung ininterview that time are the 2 girls only. Both have work with 200k in their bank. The consul questioned the money they had. Hindi daw kaya yun for that trip. After 3 days balik ulit siya to claim the passport yun nga sabay kami. The lady got the visa the 2 girls got denied.

In my conclusion I think it depends for example if you are working make sure you have money like malaking pera sa bank. if you are self employed I am not sure if i was lucky or its just that i have assets to show as well. Yung talaga ipapakita mo na babalik ka ng Pinas and yun ang pinaka importante talaga.

Anyway thank you again for this blog Yoshke!

Congrats sa trip! Di kami natuloy sa Porto, sayang! Nagstay kami sa Lisbon and Sintra lang.

Thanks for sharing, especially dun sa nakasabay mo. Yeah, for me rin, maliit yung 200K for 15 days for visa application. (In reality kayang kaya pagkasyahin yung 200K sa 15 days but the embassy needs to be convinced that the applicant will still be able to live comfortably after the trip. Mahirap paniwalaan na uubusin ang pera sa isang trip lang.)

Also, I think combination sya talaga ng maraming factors. Sometimes they can give a pass sa mas maliit na funds if impressive yung other requirements (rootedness, travel history, employment). Pero if sakto lang lahat, dapat yung funds malaki talaga. And nagmamatter din yung transactions sa bank statement na sinubmit nila. Pwedeng 200K nga yung laman pero may questionable deposits pala.

Thank you sa advise! Kailangan ko nga siguro ng more explanation at extra bala, Salamat

eugene david

good day sir. how can we apply for an appointment as a family at the greek embassy? do each family member make a separate appointment or could we just indicate at the email that we are four persons applying and just put the name of the lead applicant? thank you for your response.

Hi Eugene, pwedeng one appointment lang as a group. Yung ginawa po namin, inenter namin ung mga required details ng lahat in one email. Parang ganito:

(Applicant 1) PREFERRED DATE: {DD MONTH YEAR} Name of Applicant: {LAST NAME, FIRST NAME} Passport No: Contact Tel.: Type of Visa: {SCHENGEN/SHORT TERM or NATIONAL/LONG TERM} Main Country of Destination: Expected Date of Departure: {DD MONTH YEAR}

(Applicant 2) PREFERRED DATE: {DD MONTH YEAR} Name of Applicant: {LAST NAME, FIRST NAME} Passport No: Contact Tel.: Type of Visa: {SCHENGEN/SHORT TERM or NATIONAL/LONG TERM} Main Country of Destination: Expected Date of Departure: {DD MONTH YEAR}

Grace

Hi! Sir, we sent our email for appointment last Jan 20, 2020. They just send acknowledgement but still no email for the schedule. For 2 weeks now, pwede po kaya kaming tumawag for follow up? Departure po is Apr 03.

Yep, you may call them.

Ray

My daughter and her 3 kids were invited by her employer’s husband in Portugal. Complete na lahat ng papers at sinamahan ko na sila sa kanilang appointment with the Greek Embassy last Feb. 3. After that may ibinigay na note to pick up the passport on Feb. 11.

Hi Cristina,

A part of me wants to just wait since they have been updating you naman. But since your travel date is drawing near, I think it’s okay to call. :)

Hello Yoshke, My friends already got an appointment with the embassy this March 10. Naka group yun application nila and I just decided last week na sasama ako sakanila. I already e-mailed the embassy for schedule ng application. Travel date namin is April 1. Question lang po: 1) Since mejo late ako nagdecide, mejo worried lang ako kung aabot un visa application ko before April 1? 2) Next, since hahabol lang din ako sa group trip, paano po un proof of accommodation, how can I say na shared with friends yun? Kelangan po ba ng cover letter? 3) Is it true na mas mataas ang chance maaprove pag group kayo nag apply ng visa?

Thank you po!

1. Have your friends tried to email the embassy to include you in their appointment since group kayo? Ang positive thing about Greek Embassy’s appointment system is it’s manual. I don’t know anyone who has made this request before pero baka pumayag naman sila since magkakasama kayo.

2. Best to submit a cover letter to explain it. Another option is to book hotels with free cancellation para nakapangalan sayo. Pero for me, mas okay yung totoo which is kung ano ang binook ng friends mo.

3. It helps kasi it shows purpose of travel, but your application will still be assessed on its own.

Question about this po.

For example you intend to travel to Greece “AND” Portugal. the scenario is, point of entry is Greece BUT I will stay longer in Portugal but will return to Greece to fly back to Manila.

Should I still apply in Greek Embassy since it is point of entry? Also are Greece and Portugal sister countries?

If you will be staying longer in Portugal, you should apply for a Portuguese Schengen Visa. But both Portuguese and Greek Schengen visas are processed by the Greek Embassy. :)

Nabago na po ba talaga yung earliest date that you can apply for a schengen visa? Parang I saw kasi an announcement na, together with the visa fee increase, schengen visa applications are allowed na 6 months before the trip instead of the usual 3 months. Totoo po ba ito for all schengen countries, especially the Greek Embassy in Manila?

Sarah Marco

hello sir ,

thanks so much for this information. it shows that you applied for a visa in the pandemic so open naman si Greece to all travelers? i sent them an email and they said they never stopped applications for “essential” travelers ..but upon clarifying this with a travel agent, she said that essential pertains to only those who are working in the country like mga OFW or have some sort of emergency po. So I kind of need to clarify this. I also sent an email to clarify this with the Greek embassy. But maybe you can clarify this also. I am hoping to visit Greece sana by August so I am hurrying as you stated it takes at least a month to get a Schengen.

This post was last updated before the pandemic pa. Not sure what their rules/restrictions are now.

Hello, I am a World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 delegate from Philippines.
