Why it’s important to avoid using PRO registered music for presentations

A Performing Rights Organization (PRO) manages the rights of music creators, such as songwriters and composers, by licensing their music and collecting royalties for its public performance.

If you play PRO-registered music in a public setting like a presentation without the proper licenses, you (or your employer) could potentially face legal issues and financial penalties.

Use royalty free music not affiliated with any PRO to ensure compliance.

10 handpicked background music tracks for presentations

All music in this playlist can be legally used in personal and commercial presentations, including PowerPoint slides, business project presentation, educational or historical presentation, real estate, architecture, technology, awards, and many more types of presentations.

How to Add Background Music in PowerPoint for All Slides

A laptop with a powerpoint presentation open

Adding background music to a PowerPoint presentation is a fantastic way to add a professional and engaging touch to your work. The right music can enhance the overall impact of your presentation while capturing the attention of your audience. It can also create a relaxed atmosphere and make it much easier to engage with your potential clients or audience.

Table of Contents

Why Add Background Music to Your PowerPoint Presentation

Music has a way of evoking emotions and influencing moods. When you add background music to your PowerPoint presentation, you create an atmosphere that helps your audience focus and remember your message. It also adds an emotional connection to your presentation, making it more memorable and impactful.

In addition, background music can also help to cover up any distracting noises in the environment, such as people talking or doors opening and closing. This can help to keep your audience engaged and focused on your presentation, without any external distractions. However, it is important to choose the right type of music that is appropriate for your presentation and audience, and to ensure that the volume is not too loud or distracting.

Understanding the Importance of Music Selection for Your Presentation

Choosing the right music for your presentation is vital as the wrong choice could distract your audience or send the wrong message. The music should be relevant to the topic of the presentation, the mood that you want to set, and the nature of the audience. It should be in line with your brand and work within the context of your presentation.

Additionally, it’s important to consider the legal implications of using music in your presentation. You should ensure that you have the necessary licenses and permissions to use the music, especially if you plan to share the presentation publicly. Using copyrighted music without permission can result in legal consequences and damage to your reputation. Therefore, it’s always best to use royalty-free or licensed music to avoid any legal issues.

Choosing the Right Music for Your Audience and Topic

Before selecting the right music for your presentation, you should have a clear understanding of your target audience and their preferences. A good way to do this is to conduct a quick research on the types of music that your audience is most likely to respond to. This way you will ensure that your playlist will appeal to the majority of your audience rather than alienating them with unfamiliar tunes.

Additionally, it’s important to consider the topic of your presentation when selecting music. If your presentation is about a serious or somber topic, upbeat or lighthearted music may not be appropriate. On the other hand, if your presentation is meant to be fun and engaging, choosing music that matches that tone can help keep your audience interested and energized. Remember to always keep your audience and topic in mind when selecting the right music for your presentation.

Where to Find Royalty-Free Music for Your PowerPoint Presentation

Using licensed music in your presentation could be a significant infringement on the copyright holder’s rights. It is essential to use royalty-free music in your presentation to avoid violating any copyright laws. Fortunately, there are plenty of online platforms where you can get access to a wide range of royalty-free music, such as YouTube Audio Library, AudioJungle, and NoCopyrightSounds.

One of the best places to find royalty-free music for your PowerPoint presentation is the YouTube Audio Library. This platform offers a vast collection of free music tracks that you can use in your presentations without worrying about copyright issues. You can search for music by genre, mood, instrument, and duration, making it easy to find the perfect track for your presentation.

Another great platform to find royalty-free music is AudioJungle. This website offers a vast collection of high-quality music tracks that you can purchase at an affordable price. You can search for music by genre, mood, and tempo, making it easy to find the perfect track for your presentation. Additionally, AudioJungle offers a licensing agreement that allows you to use the music in your presentations without any restrictions.

How to Download and Save Music Files for Your Presentation

Once you have selected the right music for your presentation, it’s time to download and save the files to your computer. Most online music catalogs offer mp3 or Wav formats, so make sure you choose the right format depending on your preference. You can then save the files to a folder on your computer or an external drive.

It’s important to note that some music files may be protected by copyright laws, so make sure you have the necessary permissions to use the music in your presentation. You can check the terms and conditions of the music catalog or contact the artist or publisher for permission.

Another tip is to organize your music files in a clear and easy-to-access manner. You can create separate folders for different presentations or categorize the music by genre or mood. This will save you time and make it easier to find the right music for your future presentations.

Adding Audio Files to Your PowerPoint Slides

Adding the audio files to your PowerPoint slides is a straightforward process. Start by opening your PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide where you want to add the music. Click on the Insert tab, select the Audio button, and choose Audio on My PC/Picture. Find the folder where you saved your music files and select the one you want to use. You can also adjust the playback options of your music on the same tab.

Once you have added the audio file to your slide, you can further customize it by adjusting the volume, trimming the audio, or adding fade-in and fade-out effects. To do this, click on the audio file and select the Audio Tools tab. From there, you can make any necessary adjustments to the audio. It’s important to note that when adding audio files to your PowerPoint presentation, you should always consider the file size. Large audio files can slow down your presentation and cause it to lag or freeze. To avoid this, try to compress your audio files before adding them to your slides. You can do this using a variety of free online tools or audio editing software. By compressing your audio files, you can ensure that your presentation runs smoothly and without any technical issues.

Creating a Playlist for Your Background Music

Once you have added all the audio files to your presentation, it’s time to create a playlist that will play automatically throughout your presentation. To do this, click on the Audio icon to reveal the Audio Tools tab. Select the Playback tab and check the ‘Loop until Stopped’ option.

It’s important to choose the right type of music for your presentation. Consider the tone and mood of your presentation and choose music that complements it. For example, if you’re creating a presentation about a relaxing spa, you may want to choose calming instrumental music. On the other hand, if you’re creating a presentation about a high-energy workout, you may want to choose upbeat, fast-paced music.

Another tip is to make sure the volume of your background music is not too loud or too soft. You want it to be just loud enough to enhance the presentation, but not so loud that it distracts from the content. Test the volume in advance to ensure it’s at the appropriate level for your audience.

Adjusting the Volume and Duration of Your Background Music

To ensure that the music doesn’t overpower your presentation, you can adjust the volume level of the audio files to your preference. You can also set the duration of each song by selecting the Audio icon, clicking on the Playback tab, and choosing the ‘Fade in’ and ‘Fade out’ options, which will ensure that the music flows smoothly throughout your presentation.

In addition to adjusting the volume and duration of your background music, you may also want to consider the genre and tempo of the songs you choose. For example, if you are presenting a serious topic, you may want to choose instrumental music with a slower tempo to create a more calming atmosphere. On the other hand, if you are presenting a more upbeat topic, you may want to choose music with a faster tempo to energize your audience.Another important consideration when using background music in your presentation is to ensure that you have the necessary permissions and licenses to use the music. Using copyrighted music without permission can result in legal issues and fines. There are many websites that offer royalty-free music that you can use in your presentations, or you can create your own original music using software and instruments. By taking these steps, you can enhance your presentation with background music while avoiding any legal issues.

Adding Sound Effects to Your PowerPoint Slides

You can add sound effects to your presentation to create a more immersive experience. You will need to follow the same process as adding background music, and the sound effects should be relevant to the content displayed on your slides.

Tips and Tricks for Using Background Music in PowerPoint Presentations

When using background music in your presentation, it’s essential to keep a few things in mind. Firstly, ensure that your music choices are relevant to your topic and audience. Secondly, a little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it by adding too many songs to your playlist. Lastly, ensure that the music is not overpowering your voice or content on your slides, otherwise it will become a distraction.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Adding Background Music to Your Presentation

The most common mistake that people make is choosing music that is too loud or too distracting. This will cause your audience to lose focus and ultimately impact the effectiveness of your presentation. Other common mistakes include using copyrighted material or not setting the music to play throughout the entire presentation.

Testing and Troubleshooting Audio Issues in PowerPoint Presentations

Before finalizing your PowerPoint presentation, make sure to test it thoroughly to ensure that there are no audio issues. You can also use headphones to see how your presentation sounds and adjust the volume as necessary. If there are still audio issues, you may need to check your sound card driver or reinstall it.

Sharing and Exporting Your PowerPoint Presentation with Background Music Included

Once you have confirmed that your presentation is working correctly, it’s time to share it with your audience. You can export it as a video or send it as a PowerPoint file. Make sure to include instructions on how to view the presentation, especially if you’ve used audio files. It’s always a good idea to give a brief intro about the music and how it adds value to your presentation.

5 ways to add music to PowerPoint

Depending on the type of slideshow you’re creating in Microsoft PowerPoint , music might be the perfect addition to the show. You may want a fun upbeat song on a slide or a soft subtle melody throughout the presentation.

Upload a song from your computer

Download free music, record music while creating the slideshow, add an offscreen video, play the song or use as background music.

We’ll show you how to add music to PowerPoint a few different ways and then use a single song on a slide or play background music from start to finish.

What You Need

Microsoft PowerPoint

Probably the easiest way to add music to your slideshow is to upload a song from your computer. This can be a tune you’ve saved and listen to often or one from a playlist.

Step 1: Open your PowerPoint presentation and select a slide to add the music.

Step 2: Go to the Insert tab and choose the drop-down arrow for Audio on the right side of the ribbon.

Step 3: Pick Audio on my PC , browse for the music file, and select Insert .

Step 4: You’ll then see an audio icon on your slide for the song.

Step 5: Use the Play button to listen and the Playback tab to adjust the playback options.

Maybe you have the type of song in mind you want, but don’t have a copy saved to your computer. There are a few online resources for obtaining royalty-free songs for presentations at no cost.

Fesliyan Studios Inc. : Choose a genre at the top such as commercial, happy, sad, or relaxing. Press the Play button to listen, then check out alternate versions where available. Choose Download to get the song.

Chosic : You’ll see a slew of songs for presentations from upbeat to soft. When you hear the song you want, select Download > Free Download .

SoundCloud : If you’re already a SoundCloud listener, this is a good option for presentation music. Type “free downloads” or similar into the search box and review the results. When you find the song you want, select More or the three dots to download the tune.

If you can find royalty-free music on YouTube as well, there are a number of ways to download MP3s from YouTube .

Once you download one of these songs, save it to your device and simply upload it to the slideshow as described above.

If you’re lucky enough to be gifted with musical talent, you can use your skills to record a song directly in PowerPoint. Warm up your vocal cords or grab your guitar and make your own presentation music.

Step 1: Open your PowerPoint presentation and select a slide to record the music.

Step 3: Pick Record audio . Note: You must have either a built-in or external microphone for your computer.

Step 4: When the Record Sound box appears, select the red, round Record button to start recording.

Step 5: Press the square Stop button when you finish. To listen to the recording, press the green Play button.

Step 6: When you finish, select OK to insert it onto the slide.

Step 7: You’ll then see the audio icon just like with an inserted audio file. Press the Play button to hear the recording.

Sometimes the ideal song for a situation is attached to a video. While you can’t currently just play the audio and you probably don’t want the video as part of your presentation, there’s a workaround to get that tune in your show.

Step 1: Open your PowerPoint presentation and select a slide to add the video.

Step 2: Go to the Insert tab and choose the drop-down arrow for Video on the right side of the ribbon.

Step 3: Pick This Device , Stock Videos , or Online Videos and follow the prompts to insert the video.

Step 4: When the video appears on the slide, drag a corner or edge to make it smaller and then drag it off of the slide to one of the sides.

This allows you to play the video to hear the audio but not see the video in your slideshow.

Step 5: Select the video and use the Playback tab to adjust the options for playing it when clicking the slide or automatically.

Once you add the music to PowerPoint, you can set it to play on a single slide or last the duration of the presentation.

Step 1: Go to the slide containing the music and select it.

Note: If you want the music to play in the background throughout the slideshow, you’ll likely want the file on the first or second slide per your preference.

Step 2: Head to the Playback tab and choose to play the song with the slide or as background music.

Step 3: To play the song only on that slide, choose the Start drop-down box in the Audio options section of the ribbon and pick how you want the music to begin. You can select In click sequence , Automatically , or When clicked on . When you advance to the next slide, the song stops playing.

Step 4: To play the song throughout the presentation, select Play in background in the Audio styles section. This automatically checks the boxes for Play across slides and Loop until stopped . You can also choose an option in the Start drop-down box for how to begin playing the song.

Keep in mind this only works with audio files, not the video file method described above.

Step 5: Adjust any other options on the Playback tab per your preference. You can increase or decrease the volume, rewind the song after it plays, or add a fade in or out effect.

Remember to practice your presentation after you add the music to make sure it sounds the way you want. You might also consider adding closed captioning for the hearing impaired.

If you're using Microsoft Office on your Windows PC, then you might want to keep your eye out for potential new security issues.

Microsoft has just backtracked on a decision it made earlier in 2022, and will no longer be blocking Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros in Office files by default across Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Visio.

Whether you’re presenting a slideshow to your executives, clients, or peers, you want to convey your message clearly and successfully. Unfortunately, many mistakes can be made when creating PowerPoint presentations.

From hard-to-read fonts to colors that hurt the eyes of your audience, here are some best practices to keep in mind for your next PowerPoint slideshow. Choose the fonts wisely Using a fancy, dramatic, or even whimsical font can be tempting. But you must consider the readability of the font. You want your audience to easily see your headings and bullet points. Consider the two basic font styles: serif and sans serif.

Microsoft PowerPoint offers many features for creating slideshows. Some of those features go a bit unnoticed but can be useful when building your presentation.

Before you create your next PowerPoint, take a look at these tricks. They can save you time, let you customize the show, and stay organized from start to finish. Save time by reusing slides You may not realize it, but you can reuse slides from other presentations to save time. You might reuse a slide with your company mission, contact information, or details of all your locations.

Adding music to your presentation.

There are many ways to improve your PowerPoint presentation---adding animations to objects, customizing slide transition styles, and using interesting themes to name a few. In addition to all that, you can also add music to your presentation.

PowerPoint makes it very simple to add music to your presentation. Adding music to your presentation may be a great idea, but there are also cases where it may be considered unprofessional. We’re not here to tell you when to do it, just how to do it, but make sure it’s appropriate for the situation.

Switch to the "Insert" tab and then click the “Audio” button.

A menu will appear, giving you the option to either upload music from your PC or record your own audio track.

If you’d like to record your own audio, select “Record Audio,” and the “Record Sound” window will appear. Go ahead and give your audio a name, then click the “Record” icon when you’re ready to start.

After the “Record” icon is selected, a timer will start which gives you the total length of the sound being recorded. Once you’re ready to stop recording, press the “Stop” icon. To listen to your recording, you can press the “Play” icon. If you’re happy with what you're recording, select “OK” to insert it into your presentation.

If you prefer to upload music from your PC instead, go back to the audio options menu and select “Audio on My PC.” This will open your PC’s directory. Locate the audio file you’d like to use, then select “Insert” at the bottom-right of the window. PowerPoint supports several popular formats, like MP3, MP4, WAV, and AAC.

Now you’ll see a speaker icon appear in your presentation. Here, you can play the audio, control the volume, and move the audio back or forward 0.25 seconds.

Additionally, the “Playback” tab appears in the ribbon. By default, the “Audio Style” is automatically set to “No Style.” This means that the audio will only play on the slide where you insert it, the icon will appear in the presentation, and the audio will only begin once you click that icon.

But you can change all that. You can use the options here to adjust the default playback volume, choose whether the music starts automatically or on a click, whether it plays across other slides, whether it loops until you stop it, and so on.

We’re going to change this by selecting “Play in Background” in the “Audio Styles” section.

There are a few other options available to you, as well. You can add (or remove) bookmarks for specific times in your audio clip, trim parts of the audio, and give your audio a fade in/out effect.

Use these tools to customize the perfect audio for your presentation.

Artificial Intelligence Computing Leadership from NVIDIA

Press Release Details

Nvidia nim revolutionizes model deployment, now available to transform world’s millions of developers into generative ai developers.

  • 150+ Partners Across Every Layer of AI Ecosystem Embedding NIM Inference Microservices to Speed Enterprise AI Application Deployments From Weeks to Minutes
  • NVIDIA Developer Program Members Gain Free Access to NIM for Research, Development and Testing

TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 02, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- COMPUTEX -- NVIDIA today announced that the world’s 28 million developers can now download NVIDIA NIM ™ — inference microservices that provide models as optimized containers — to deploy on clouds, data centers or workstations, giving them the ability to easily build generative AI applications for copilots, chatbots and more, in minutes rather than weeks.

These new generative AI applications are becoming increasingly complex and often utilize multiple models with different capabilities for generating text, images, video, speech and more. NVIDIA NIM dramatically increases developer productivity by providing a simple, standardized way to add generative AI to their applications.

NIM also enables enterprises to maximize their infrastructure investments. For example, running Meta Llama 3-8B in a NIM produces up to 3x more generative AI tokens on accelerated infrastructure than without NIM. This lets enterprises boost efficiency and use the same amount of compute infrastructure to generate more responses.

Nearly 200 technology partners — including Cadence, Cloudera , Cohesity , DataStax , NetApp , Scale AI and Synopsys — are integrating NIM into their platforms to speed generative AI deployments for domain-specific applications, such as copilots, code assistants and digital human avatars. Hugging Face is now offering NIM — starting with Meta Llama 3 .

“Every enterprise is looking to add generative AI to its operations, but not every enterprise has a dedicated team of AI researchers,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Integrated into platforms everywhere, accessible to developers everywhere, running everywhere — NVIDIA NIM is helping the technology industry put generative AI in reach for every organization.”

Enterprises can deploy AI applications in production with NIM through the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform. Starting next month, members of the NVIDIA Developer Program can access NIM for free for research, development and testing on their preferred infrastructure.

40+ NIM Microservices Power Gen AI Models Across Modalities NIM containers are pre-built to speed model deployment for GPU-accelerated inference and can include NVIDIA CUDA ® software, NVIDIA Triton Inference Server ™ and NVIDIA TensorRT™-LLM software.

Over 40 NVIDIA and community models are available to experience as NIM endpoints on ai.nvidia.com , including Databricks DBRX , Google’s open model Gemma, Meta Llama 3, Microsoft Phi-3, Mistral Large, Mixtral 8x22B and Snowflake Arctic.

Developers can now access NVIDIA NIM microservices for Meta Llama 3 models from the Hugging Face AI platform. This lets developers easily access and run the Llama 3 NIM in just a few clicks using Hugging Face Inference Endpoints, powered by NVIDIA GPUs on their preferred cloud.

Enterprises can use NIM to run applications for generating text, images and video, speech and digital humans. With NVIDIA BioNeMo ™ NIM microservices for digital biology, researchers can build novel protein structures to accelerate drug discovery.

Dozens of healthcare companies are deploying NIM to power generative AI inference across a range of applications, including surgical planning, digital assistants, drug discovery and clinical trial optimization.

With new NVIDIA ACE NIM microservices , developers can easily build and operate interactive, lifelike digital humans in applications for customer service, telehealth, education, gaming and entertainment.

Hundreds of AI Ecosyst em Partners Embedding NIM Platform providers including Canonical , Red Hat , Nutanix and VMware (acquired by Broadcom) are supporting NIM on open-source KServe or enterprise solutions. AI application companies Hippocratic AI , Glean , Kinetica and Redis are also deploying NIM to power generative AI inference.

Leading AI tools and MLOps partners — including Amazon SageMaker, Microsoft Azure AI, Dataiku, DataRobot, deepset , Domino Data Lab, LangChain , Llama Index , Replicate , Run.ai, Saturn Cloud , Securiti AI and Weights & Biases — have also embedded NIM into their platforms to enable developers to build and deploy domain-specific generative AI applications with optimized inference.

Global system integrators and service delivery partners Accenture, Deloitte, Infosys, Latentview , Quantiphi , SoftServe, TCS and Wipro have created NIM competencies to help the world’s enterprises quickly develop and deploy production AI strategies.

Enterprises can run NIM-enabled applications virtually anywhere, including on NVIDIA-Certified Systems ™ from global infrastructure manufacturers Cisco, Dell Technologies , Hewlett-Packard Enterprise , Lenovo and Supermicro, as well as server manufacturers ASRock Rack , ASUS , GIGABYTE , Ingrasys , Inventec , Pegatron , QCT, Wistron and Wiwynn. NIM microservices have also been integrated into Amazon Web Services , Google Cloud , Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure .

Titans of Industry Amp Up Gener ative AI With NIM Industry leaders Foxconn, Pegatron, Amdocs , Lowe’s, ServiceNow and Siemens are among the businesses using NIM for generative AI applications in manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, retail, customer service and more:

  • Foxconn — the world’s largest electronics manufacturer — is using NIM in the development of domain-specific LLMs embedded into a variety of internal systems and processes in its AI factories for smart manufacturing, smart cities and smart electric vehicles.
  • Pegatron — a Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company — is leveraging NIM for Project TaME, a Taiwan Mixtral of Experts model designed to advance the development of local LLMs for industries.
  • Amdocs — a leading global provider of software and services to communications and media companies — is using NIM to run a customer billing LLM that significantly lowers the cost of tokens, improves accuracy by up to 30% and reduces latency by 80%, driving near real-time responses.
  • Lowe’s — a FORTUNE ÂŽ 50 home improvement company — is using generative AI for a variety of use cases. For example, the retailer is leveraging NVIDIA NIM inference microservices to elevate experiences for associates and customers.
  • ServiceNow — the AI platform for business transformation — announced earlier this year that it was one of the first platform providers to access NIM to enable fast, scalable and more cost-effective LLM development and deployment for its customers. NIM microservices are integrated within the Now AI multimodal model and are available to customers that have ServiceNow’s generative AI experience, Now Assist, installed.
  • Siemens — a global technology company focused on industry, infrastructure, transport and healthcare — is integrating its operational technology with NIM microservices for shop floor AI workloads. It is also building an on-premises version of its Industrial Copilot for Machine Operators using NIM.

Availability Developers can experiment with NVIDIA microservices at ai.nvidia.com at no charge. Enterprises can deploy production-grade NIM microservices with NVIDIA AI Enterprise running on NVIDIA-Certified Systems and leading cloud platforms. Starting next month, members of the NVIDIA Developer Program will gain free access to NIM for research and testing.

Funeral For A Friend to replace Bad Omens at Download Festival

The Welsh post-hardcore band will headline the second stage on the Friday of the rock festival

Funeral For A Friend will be replacing Bad Omens at Download Festival next week.

  • READ MORE: Download Festival boss on gender-balanced festival line-ups: “All festivals need to look at how diverse they are”

Bad Omens were supposed to headline the second stage on the first day of the Donington Park festival but announced on May 23 that they were pulling out due to frontman Noah Sebastian suffering from “extreme burnout”.

“While all the touring and work that we’ve put into this album cycle the last several years has been so rewarding and gratifying, it has also pushed me to the limits of my mental bandwidth,” he said in a statement. “Putting my mind and body in conflict with one another in ways that are becoming detrimental to my health on the road.”

“This decision is in the best interest of my health and wellbeing, and of the long term sustainability of Bad Omens.

“We need to protect and restore all of the energy that will be demanded of us again soon as we transition into the next chapter.”

Now, it has been confirmed that Funeral For A Friend will be taking their place. Last month, they performed for the first time since the departure of vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye at Newport’s Corn Exchange and Slam Dunk Festival with Lucas Woodland of Holding Absence on vocals. He will be joining them again for Download and will perform with Holding Absence the following day.

“So it seems like folks quite enjoyed seeing us last weekend with @Lucaswoodland on the microphone,” the Welsh post-hardcore band said on social media. “So much so, that we’ve been asked to do it again, this time at @DownloadFest, headlining the Opus Stage on Friday night June 14th!

“We were blessed enough to play the very first Download Festival back in 2003, so to be invited back over 20 years later for such a prestigious slot is pretty incredible. We’ll make the most of it.”

We were blessed enough to play the very first Download Festival back in 2003, so to be invited back over 20 years later for such a prestigious slot is pretty incredible. We’ll make the most of it. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, head to the Download website to grab ‘em. — Funeral For A Friend (@ffaf_official) May 31, 2024

In other news, Download boss Andy Copping revealed last week that a “big band” will perform a surprise set at this year’s edition of the festival.

Copping recently hosted an hour-long show on  Planet Rock  called  Andy Copping’s Secrets of Download during the bank holiday (May 27), where he revealed that fans should look out for a secret set this year.

“One thing’s for sure, you’ve got to keep your eyes and ears peeled for this year at Download because, yes, we have an another band coming in doing a secret set. Something very, very special. Big band. So look out for that.”

The music festival will return to Donington Park for its 21st edition from June 14-16. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased  here .

Generative Parables: AI as an Artform

There used to be only two things an individual could count on for sure: death and taxes; but there seems to be a third in our modern era and that is technology advancing at a rapid rate. With these advancements come new tools, methods, and of course questions. The recent introduction of artificial intelligence to the public has been no exception. Whether it is ChatGPT writing blog posts or MidJourney creating images of unreal places, AI has begun to seep into many aspects of our lives. One field that this phenomenon has started to deeply impact is the world of art. Many artists will ask whether this introduction is good or bad, but few have asked the question of whether AI can truly be considered art. Can images or assets made with artificial intelligence be defined as art? Or are they merely remixed versions of other artists work in which they were trained in? I sought to answer this question through two methods, experience and comparison. I first created my own artwork using various AI models to understand the tools themselves. I then researched similar advancements and how they were received by the community. Finally, I asked the question of what is the definition of art and whether AI art could safely fit within the boundaries. In my findings I found that AI is merely another tool in the artists toolbelt and that just like each advancement from the past, the community would adapt and change accordingly. But most interestingly, I learned that art is all about the process. The tools used to create matter less than the artist using them in the process. I believe this changes our perception of art as a whole and should encourage us to view every aspect of our lives as art.
