My Village:

I am a villager and my village’s name is Mohonpur. It is located in Bihar. It’s a big village with around 4000 people. It’s my native village and all of my ancestors are from this place. We moved to Mumbai a long time back, but we returned here a few years ago. 

We have all the relatives and family friends here. We are having an amazing life. There is a beautiful river beside my village. It’s really fascinating for me. I love to swim there. Our village has two schools and a college for education . 

People are very aware of education. They send their kids to school and colleges. We don’t need to go far for better education. Even lots of students come here from different nearby villages. We have a big village market too. 

People come here to buy and sell their products. Overall life is pretty amazing here. We have better roads and transportation services for moving one place to another. We don’t have traffic jams, electricity problems, or environmental issues. The air is very fresh here. 

Advantages of Village Life: 

There are lots of advantages of village life. The village people are very friendly. It’s easy to make a friend. They will find time for you. They love to chat and hangout. When you greet people in a good way, they will respect you a lot. 

Life is very simple and peaceful there. You can live without any hassle or problems. The food is amazing there. You will find every type of fruit, vegetables, fishes, or meat and they are fresh. I love to eat village vegetables. When I stay there, I go to a different village garden to buy vegetables. 

It’s so relaxing. The fishermen are catching fish from the river and you can get completely fresh fish from them. The environment is great. You can take a long and deep breath on pollution-free air. Overall there are tons of advantages of village life and I can’t complete writing here. 

Disadvantages of Village Life:

Along with lots of advantages, there are some disadvantages too. Some villages are very unprivileged. They don’t have electricity, gas, or a proper education system. I can tell you about some neighboring villages. 

They don’t have electricity and that has made their life very hard. It’s a fault of the system and government. We need to make our village able to live for everyone. The migration problem is getting huge in our country for fewer facilities in villages. 

People have a high intention to move to the cities. But we can make our villages amazing. The village has less opportunity for making a job or working space. If you want to get a better job, then you need to go to the city for sure.

That’s all about village life. Village life is perfect for lots of people. You can match there too if you want to lead a simple and easy life. The government should invest in villages to make jobs there. It could change the entire country.

The honking of cars, pollution, traffic, work stress, etc is very stressful to deal with whereas in village life things are more simple and sorted because there is no chaos and people share a bond of brotherhood. 

The major section in India is dependent on agriculture for livelihood so they live in villages. Agriculture is a tough job and living in villages is also quite a challenge but people in villages lead a peaceful and simple life.

Village life is simple and economical. Owing to less industrial pollution in villages, the village environment is full of fresh air to breathe. Children can play freely and people share the feeling of brotherhood neglecting the religious boundaries.

The simplicity, peace and purity of a village is wonderful and unbeatable. I come from a small Himalayan village, Lamahatta, popularly known for its beauty. The name of my village is Lamahatta. It is a small village present in the outskirts of North Bengal. I was born and brought up in Lamahatta. Lamahatta is well known for its lush pine forests, vast stretches of Darjeeling tea garden and the views of the snow-capped mountains. It is also a tourist destination. My village remains cool all through the year. The number of people residing in Lamahatta is not more than 1000. The villagers are very helpful. The majority of the women are tea-plantation workers whereas men work in construction. A pucca road runs through the entire village with small decorated houses on each side of the road. I love my village and its people.

I come from a village named Lamahatta. The village is located at a very high altitude nearly about 5000 feet above sea level. Lamahatta is a very small village of only 1000 residents. My village has become one of the tourist destinations because of its pleasant climate and natural beauty. Lamahatta has vast stretches of tea plantations and beautiful pine forests. These forests smell refreshing and sweet due to the presence of terpenes on them. My father used to take me to the village every year during my school holidays. I used to spend the entire holidays amidst the silence of the pine forests in a little concrete house with my mother, father and my brother.

The chirping of birds all throughout the day, and the light cool breeze used to amaze me and freshen up our minds. Here in my village, the houses are beautifully decorated with orchids and other flowers. Life in a village is very different from that in urban cities. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Lamahatta has always been peaceful. The people of my village are very helpful and lovable. In the evening, after the completion of work, every woman in the village meets in a small community hall where they have a small get-together. We celebrate each and every festival with great enthusiasm.

Everyone loves their native birthplace and so do I. I was born in a village named Lamahatta located at an altitude of 5000 feet near Darjeeling, the Queen of Hills in North Bengal. 'Lama' in Lamahatta stands for a Buddhist monk and 'Hatta’ means a hut. So basically Lamahatta means a monk's hermitage. Lamahatta is an offbeat location known for its lush green pine trees and large stretches of tea gardens with a beautiful view of the mountains. Due to this, my village has become a famous tourist destination mainly during the summers and the springs.

Life In A Village | Life in my village is quite different from that in urban cities. Here, it is slower and more peaceful. People live together and lead very simple lives. We mostly stay away from the continuous hustle and bustle of urban life. My village is greener and one can feel the freshness of the air.

About My Village

The people of my village are generally tribals belonging to the Sherpas, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas . They work hard every day in order to make Lamahatta a clean, simple place and attractive place to live in. I belong to the Bhutia tribe. In my house, I have my parents and my small brother. My mother works as a tea plantation worker whereas my father works at a construction site. The occupations of the people in my village are plantation workers, homestay caretakers, dhaba managers and construction workers.

Places Of Attraction | My village people, along with the support of the government, have made this an eco-tourism place. Lamahatta contributes a good amount to North Bengal tourism. People from other countries often visit my village during the summer. Besides the natural beauty, the pleasant weather makes Lamahatt a dream place and an ideal place to live in. There are many exciting places for sightseeing here. We have the Lamahatta Eco Park , a roadside garden, monasteries among the woods, trekking facilities to Sacred Pond, the Gari Danda Fort and most importantly the huge tea plantations. My village serves as the connecting route between Darjeeling and Kalimpong . We also have ‘machan’, a wooden watchtower from where we can view the entire Lamahatta. The Eco park consists of about hundreds of colorful flags. My father says that the wind blowing through these flags is considered to purify the souls and minds of the people.

Christmas Celebration in Lamahatta

We celebrate all the festivals in my village but Christmas is specially celebrated with huge pomp and gaiety. Each house is decorated with lanterns and lights. All the kids have Christmas tree decoration competitions among themselves where the best tree decorator is awarded fancy gifts by the other villagers. On Christmas eve , all the villagers meet at a common place near Eco Park where we dance and dine together. I love my village because it is peaceful and serene. Lamahatta holds a number of my childhood memories. Living here makes me relive all those magical moments. It feels good to stay here. The natural beauty of my village always amazes me.

Another advantage of living in an urban area is that there is a huge number of jobs available and many multinational companies, small companies, big companies are present in the big cities. There are centers of trade and commerce and it is very easy for a person to find a job in the urban areas. On the other hand, villagers mostly do farming and the jobs are limited to seasonal jobs.

Though in terms of the technical factors the city life is way ahead of the village life, yet people consider village life more peaceful. The customs of Real India are reflected mostly in the villages where people have not left their cultures and still follow the Indian traditions. India has a vast variety of cultures which is visible only in the villages.

The urban areas are fully man-made while on the other hand villages are self-created and are very natural which is one of the reasons why people from cities travel to villages in order to seek peace and enjoy nature. The wide species of birds, different varieties of flowers, scenic views, and all the things related to nature is the beauty of the villages.

The villages feed and clothe the people while the city provides learning and culture. In rural areas, however, most of the people depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Poultry farming proves to be a lucrative business for them. In the past, villagers used to meet their daily needs by exchanging gold-grown crops with their villagers. But as urbanization increased, these same people started selling the goods in the towns. 

India is blessed with a great tradition. In terms of tradition and culture, villagers seem to have retained the old tradition. Villages are the best place to live comparatively, as hygiene food and calm environment with peace. The village is in dire need of education. Primary education can be easily acquired in villages too. However, for secondary education, one has to move towards cities. The variety of facilities available in the cities reduces the scarcity of educational staff. People used to migrate towards cities or smart cities, to get benefited from lots of job opportunities, stable income, and better life stability.

The picture in the city is completely different; here agriculture is basically a side business of the citizens. Where precious diamonds in the form of cultivation are grown in the village, the skyscrapers stand on the same farm in the city.  Cities have well-structured transport systems, which connect all the remote areas in urban centers. The leading role of transport is played by rail, road, and the air. The city livers possess various alternative options when it comes to transportation. Underwater excavation reveals human resilience through neolithic-period climate change.

Around 6,200 BCE, the climate changed. Global temperatures dropped, sea levels rose and the southern Levant, including modern-day Israel, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon, southern Syria and the Sinai desert, entered a period of drought. 

Previously, archaeologists believed that this abrupt shift in global climate, called the 8.2ka event, may have led to the widespread abandonment of coastal settlements in the southern Levant. In a recent study published with the journal Antiquity , researchers at UC San Diego, the University of Haifa and Bar-Ilan University share new evidence suggesting at least one village formerly thought abandoned not only remained occupied, but thrived throughout this period. 

“This [study] helped fill a gap in our understanding of the early settlement of the Eastern Mediterranean coastline,” said Thomas Levy, a co-author on the paper, co-director of the Center for Cyber-Archaeology and Sustainability (CCAS) at the UC San Diego Qualcomm Institute (QI) , inaugural holder of the Norma Kershaw Chair in the Archaeology of Ancient Israel and Neighboring Lands in the Department of Anthropology, and a distinguished professor in the university’s Graduate Division. “It deals with human resilience.”

Signs of life

The village of Habonim North was discovered off Israel’s Carmel Coast in the mid-2010s and later surveyed by a team led by the University of Haifa’s Ehud Arkin Shalev. 

Prior to its excavation and analysis, there was scant evidence for human habitation along the southern Levantine coast during the 8.2ka event. The dig, which took place during the COVID-19 lockdown and involved a weeks-long, 24/7 coordinated effort between partners at UC San Diego and the University of Haifa, was the first formal excavation of the submerged site.  

Led by Assaf Yasur-Landau, head of the Leon Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies at the University of Haifa, and Roey Nickelsberg, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Haifa, the international team excavated the site using a combination of sediment dredging and sampling, as well as photogrammetry and 3D modeling. Team members uncovered pottery shards or “sherds”; stone tools, including ceremonial weapons and fishing-net weights; animal and plant remains; and architecture. 

Using radiocarbon dating, the researchers tested the recovered bones of wild and domesticated animals; the charred seeds of wild plants; crops like wheat and lentils; and weeds that tend to accompany these crops. Their results traced these organic materials back to the Early Pottery Neolithic (EPN), which coincided with both the invention of pottery and the 8.2ka event.

Habonim North’s pottery sherds, stone tools and architecture likewise dated activity at the site to the EPN and, surprisingly, to the Late Pottery Neolithic, when the village was thought to have been abandoned.

As for how the village likely weathered the worst of the climate instability, the researchers point to signs of an economy that diversified from farming to include maritime culture and trade within a distinct cultural identity. Evidence includes fishing-net weights; tools made of basalt, a stone that does not naturally occur along this part of the eastern Mediterranean coast; and a ceremonial mace head.

“[Our study] showed that the Early Pottery Neolithic society [at Habonim North] displayed multi-layered resilience that enabled it to withstand the 8.2ka crisis,” said Assaf Yasur-Landau, senior author on the paper. “I was happily surprised by the richness of the finds, from pottery to organic remains.” 

Through 3D “digital twin” technology and the Haifa – UC San Diego QI collaboration, the researchers studying Habonim North have been able to recreate their excavation, virtually, and 3D-print artifacts, opening the path to further study. The team previously received an Innovations in Networking Award for Research Applications from the non-profit organization CENIC for “exemplary” work leveraging high-bandwidth networking during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Shifting the focus to resilience

Although scientists debate the cause of the 8.2ka event, some speculate that it began with the final collapse of the Laurentide ice sheet, which shaped much of the North American landscape in its retreat from modern-day Canada and the Northern United States. 

As it melted, the ice sheet would have changed the flow of ocean currents, affecting heat transport and leading to the observed drop in global temperatures. 

For the authors behind the study, the discovery of lasting and evolving social activity at Habonim North through this period of climate instability indicates a level of resilience in early Neolithic societies. Many of the activities uncovered at the village, including the creation of culturally distinct pottery and trade, formed the basis for later urban societies. 

“To me, what’s important is to change how we look at things,” said Nickelsberg. “Many archaeologists like to look at the collapse of civilizations. Maybe it’s time to start looking at the development of human culture, rather than its destruction and abandonment.”

Witness says Alaska plane that crashed had smoke coming from engine after takeoff, NTSB finds

The National Transportation Safety Board says a witness saw smoke coming from one of the engines of an old military plane that crashed last week shortly after taking off on a flight to deliver fuel to a remote Alaska village

JUNEAU, Alaska -- A witness saw smoke coming from one of the engines of an old military plane that crashed last week shortly after taking off on a flight to deliver fuel to a remote Alaska village, according to a preliminary crash report released Thursday.

The witness said that shortly after the plane took off from a Fairbanks airport on April 23, he noticed that one of its engines wasn't running and that there was white smoke coming from it, the National Transportation Safety Board report states. When the plane turned south, he saw that the engine was on fire, it says.

Not long after that, the 54D-DC airplane — a military version of the World War II-era Douglas DC-4 — crashed and burned, killing the two pilots.

Before the crash, one of the pilots told air traffic control that there was a fire on board and that he was trying to fly the 7 miles (11 kilometers) back to Fairbanks.

Surveillance video showed white smoke behind the engine, followed by flames, the report states. Seconds later, “a bright white explosion is seen just behind the number one engine followed by fragments of airplane wreckage falling to the ground,” it says.

The roughly 80-year-old airplane then began an uncontrolled descending left turn, with the engine separating from the wing.

The plane landed on a slope above the Tanana River and slid down to the bank, leaving a trail of debris. The engine, which came to rest on the frozen river, has been recovered and will undergo a detailed examination, the report says, noting that much of the plane burned after the crash.

The probable cause of the crash will come in a future report.

The plane was carrying 3,400 gallons (12,870 liters) of unleaded fuel and two large propane tanks intended for the village of Kobuk, a small Inupiat community about 300 miles (480 kilometers) northwest of Fairbanks. Earlier reports said the plane was carrying 3,200 gallons (12,113 liters) of heating oil.

Air tankers deliver fuel to many rural Alaska communities, especially those off the road system and that have no way for barges to reach them.

The state medical examiner’s office has not yet positively identified the two people on board, Alaska Department of Public Safety spokesperson Austin McDaniel said in a Thursday email.

The plane was owned by Alaska Air Fuel Inc., which did not offer immediate comment Thursday.

Jack Nicklaus changes 16th hole at Muirfield to make life easier on PGA Tour players

Jack Nicklaus got the message loud and clear. And the Memorial Tournament host and founder has acted upon the criticism he heard by changing the 16th hole at Muirfield Village Golf Club into something less detestable to PGA Tour players. 

“The guys kept talking to me about it, and I sat down with Jordan Spieth about it and maybe (Justin Thomas)," Nicklaus said Wednesday at the Legends luncheon that raised $1.43 million for the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation and Nationwide Children's Alliance. "And we sat down, and I said, ‘Guys, you’re only playing an 8 or 9-iron into ( a 220-yard par-3 ).' Then I looked at the stats. And 36% of the guys hit the green on Saturday and 28% hit it on Sunday.”

Those low numbers told the Golden Bear he needed to make another change to a hole that has seen plenty of alterations through the years.

“I said, ‘It’s not shame on you, it’s shame on me,” Nicklaus said. “If the course is not playable from that standpoint, for an 8 or 9-iron to only hit the green a third of the time the last two rounds, that’s not them. It’s me.”

It didn’t help the hole’s high Sunday scoring average (3.39) that a strong northeast wind made for only three birdies on the day. (There were only 21 for the entire tournament.) But wind or no wind, Nicklaus knew something had to be done.

The Upper Arlington native decided to make 16 play more like No. 16 at Augusta National, home of the Masters, where the pond punishes players only when they hit a really poor tee shot. Nicklaus moved the tee box 30 yards to the players’ right, which straightens the hole and takes the pond more out of play. He also removed the bunker from the front right of the green and replaced it with a slope to the green.

“I’ve given them the opportunity to play into the front third of the green without any problems,” he said. “But if they want to challenge the back pin placements, then they’ve still got a challenge to do that. I haven’t changed that.”

The 16th has received strong criticism since 2011, when Nicklaus redesigned the hole to include a lake guarding the left side of the green and bunkering behind the green.

Phil Mickelson soured early on the par-3, complaining that as a left-hander he had to draw his tee shot over the pond to a green that did not hold. Bubba Watson, another lefty, despised the hole, saying it did not fit aesthetically with the other 17. 

The criticism reached a crescendo last year when Westerville resident Jason Day called No. 16 a “stupid hole,” while Thomas said it was “not a great hole in pretty much everyone’s opinion that’s playing today.”

One caddie bluntly summed up the situation: “It was a crap hole before, and it’s a crap hole now.”

Nicklaus no fan of name, image, likeness

Nicklaus watches Ohio State play football on TV every chance he gets, but don’t ask him how good the Buckeyes will be next season. 

“I have no idea what you have for a football team this year with NIL,” he said, shaking his head. “I don’t like NIL at all. I think it’s horrible for college sports. It makes them all professionals.”

Nicklaus said his opinion was informed by conversations with his grandson, Nick, who coaches tight ends at Florida State as a consultant. 

“Recruiting trips are no more fun,” Nicklaus said. “He says, ‘You used to talk to a kid about what the school can do for you and why you’d want to come to Florida State.’ Now it’s, ‘Go talk to my dad and see how much money we can get.’ ”

Despite his frustration with NIL , Nicklaus remains a fan of the Buckeyes.

“Other schools are doing exactly the same thing, and Ohio State has a lot to offer,” Nicklaus said. “You’ve got a great program and a great coach in Ryan Day and all the tools to have a great team.”

Nicklaus agreed that his NIL value would have been high when he played for Ohio State (1958-61).

“I suppose so, but my belief in college sports is the kid should get a stipend, whether that’s $12,000, $15,000, $20,000, whatever it is. Today, without that, the kids can’t go home, can’t take a date out. It’s always worrying about who’s going to buy you lunch. You’re always worried about NCAA rules. So to have a little bit of independence, and they can do that in college sports pretty easily.”

Smaller Memorial field coming June 6-9

As a signature event, the Memorial will see a reduced field, from 120 to between 70-74 players, which Nicklaus said will offer some flexibility with weather. The smaller field, which will be further reduced to the top 50 and ties, or those within 10 shots of the lead after the cut, also means players will go off in twosomes so the TV broadcast can extend until about 6 p.m.

Tournament director Dan Sullivan likes the idea of all players teeing off on No. 1, instead of split tees on No. 1 and No. 10, which means the back-nine will be packed with spectators later in the day.   

Nicklaus wouldn’t mind seeing more than 74 players in the field, but thinks the tour is on the right track with offering opposite-field events the same week as some of the signature tournaments.

“What the tour has done … is really good,” he said. “That gives an off tournament an opportunity to have some really good players and develop their own stars.” 

Nicklaus shot 269 at Augusta 

After the Masters ended, Nicklaus stuck around to play the course over three days.

“I shot 88, 90 and 91; that’s a 269 for three rounds, which is a pretty good four-round score,” he quipped. “That’s what I play anymore. They don’t have any forward tees at Augusta. I can’t play 6,400 yards. I hit the ball 190 yards anymore, if I kill it. I played once last year, once the year before, and I’ve played four times this year already.
