Tax preparer resume tips and ideas.

Tax preparers are responsible for  overseeing all tax-related issues for their clients . Not only are they responsible for timely tax filing but also for collaborating internally with departments, as well as keeping up to date with tax regulation knowledge. They also help their clients reduce the amount of tax paid and efficient record keeping.

Naturally, tax consultants are expected to have  great analytical and critical thinking skills.  A tax preparer’s resume often includes computer proficiency, strong communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team in the skills section.

Candidates applying for tax consultant jobs are expected to have a  graduate degree in Finance or Accounting.

Crafting and designing a great tax preparer resume can be challenging if you haven’t updated your resume in a while. The competitive job landscape is challenging, and writing a unique and professional resume gives you the  best chance to stand out from the crowd , create a strong impression in your hiring manager’s mind, and  land you a job interview.

We’ve compiled the following tips as a guide to writing your resume. T o take the guesswork out, you can check out our  online resume builder  and create your resume within minutes.

Simply choose from one of the pre-formatted resume layouts and fill in your information in the relevant sections!

Chronological Format

  • Simple – Minimalist
  • Proper use of spacing
  • Sections and Headings
  • Avoid graphics
  • Avoid multiple colors
  • Contact Details
  • Resume objective

Work experience

  • Qualifications/Education
  • Additional Certifications
  • Volunteer – Pro Bono Cases

Resume Length

One Letter page size – 8.5” x 11”

Choosing the right resume format is an important decision when writing yours. If you have been in the field for several years, we highly recommend choosing the reverse chronological format  to write your resume. In this format, after opening with a resume objective or a strong summary statement , you  list your work experience in reverse chronological order.

This gives your employer an idea about your capabilities and achievements  at previous workplaces and  highlights the value you can bring to the table .

Make sure that you list tangible business results such as KPIs that you helped your previous clients achieve.

People who are just starting out in their career may want to try the combination format , as it emphasizes both your skills as well as your work experience.

Designing a tax preparer resume can be hard work, especially if you are not a designer. As a tax preparer, your best bet is to keep the look and feel very neat , with proper spacing so that the resume reads well. You can use one of our pre-formatted  resume design templates  to get the job done in minutes.

It is not recommended to use a photo on your resume . Hiring an individual on the basis of their appearance is discrimination and is illegal in the United States.

If you are applying outside of the U.S., please check the legalities and regulations according to the country first.

Sections of a Tax Preparer Resume

Sections help to clearly separate information and guide the reader’s attention from start to end without losing interest. Otherwise, you would end up with a lot of information crammed up without any identification. As you can imagine, that wouldn’t be too reader-friendly.

To make a professional tax preparer resume, the following sections are a must-have:

Make sure that each section has a  heading in bold  to help the reader find relevant information they are looking for easily.

If you design your resume carefully or use one of our resume templates, you should be able to fit all the relevant information into a page or two. The optimum and standard length for resumes is one page.

You should try not to let your resume run over a one or two-letter page size 8.5” x 11”

Only in the case of applying for senior positions with decades of work experience, should you consider adding another page to your resume.

Tax Preparer Resume Section Headings

The following tips will help you fill the most important sections of the resume in a way that most strengthens your resume and increases your chances of getting the interview call!

The main difference between a resume objective and a professional summary is that in the former, articulate your motivation and why you are the best person for the job.

The latter basically summarizes your professional experience to demonstrate how many years of experience you have , your past achievements , skills, and other qualifications .

Many people only list their work experiences along with the dates and duration of employment and the designation they held at most. This is a mistake as they are missing out on a great opportunity to explain what you were able to achieve in your previous workplaces and for your previous clients.

Tangible business results are exciting and impressive from a potential employer’s perspective. Quantify or explain in detail what you were able to do for previous organizations and clients to show what you could potentially do for your new employer.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
