TECHNOLOGY: A BOON OR A CURSE?

  • TECHNOLOGY: A BOON OR A CURSE?

Our Schools

Technology is a major factor in the lives of millions of students. Wherever we go, we see technology improving the lives of students. However, as useful as technology is, it has a dark side that affects students in a dangerous and bad way. So, this leads us to the controversial question:Is technology a boon or a curse?

Technology has made significant positive changes in the society. Schools, with the help of modern technology such as computers, interactive T.Vs and platforms like power school, google classroom and BYJUs, are capable of providing practical learning to budding students. With the help of technology, students understand what they are taught and can apply it in real life easily. Thanks to technology, school has become a place where students love to go.

Even outside the classroom, students can share notes online, research, annotate, collaborate on work, have study groups, share courses and create virtually creative content online with the help of apps like google drive.

Even social media platforms like facebook and twitter are places where students can connect with each other to share ideas, articles and other resources with each other.

However there’s always a catch. Wrong utilization of technology can cause a lot of distress in the society. Constant addiction to video games, Facebook, Instagram, etc leads to inactiveness which can cause many health issues such as brain and heart diseases, high sugar, obesity and in extreme cases , mental problems, depression, death, accidents, destructive behaviour and suicide.

As students, we need to have a strict routine which balances fitness, studies and fun equally. Due to addiction to mobile phones and other browsing devices, there is an uneven pattern emphasizing more on convenience and satisfaction rather than outdoor and studying activities.

Technology is like a double-edged sword and we must utilize it properly. We must restrict gaming and browsing to certain hours of the day to avoid addiction. We must keep a balanced lifestyle with equal hours for studying, playing and browsing.

Common Mistakes When Making A Class Presentation

Not doing your research, not making a proper introduction, lack of preparation for the presentation, confident body language, not being engaging, inconsistent slides.

  • Overcrowding the slides: It is one of the most common presentation mistakes often committed by students. You need to understand that for presentation “less is more” fits perfectly. Instead of too much text, visuals should be used. Instead of paragraphs, pointers should be used. Using different colours also makes the presentation interesting.
  • Reading directly from the slides: Reading directly from the slides only projects you as underconfident and unprepared. Although it might seem a little tempting and an easier option, the best is to make small pointers of important topics on which you want to talk.
  • Complicated data: Data should be presented in a way that the written content becomes more understandable. For this Pie charts or bar graphs in different colours can be used.
  • Not maintaining the hierarchy: Arranging the slides haphazardly
  •  only confuses the students. It will distract them as there will be less clarity regarding the points.

AI Workshop Intel Ai-Thon – AI4YOUTH

technology boon or curse essay pdf

  • Data Science - Science that deals with manipulation of data. This was explained through ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, which was played against the computer. The computer analysed our previous moves in order to beat us.
  • Computer Vision - Process of a computer using input from a camera to recognize its surroundings. We learnt this concept by playing ‘Emoji Scavenger Hunt’. In this game, the computer would show us an object (Ex: Phone) and we had to find the object and show it in front of the screen within a time limit so that the computer could check whether or not the object was the same.
  • Natural Language Processing - Process of a computer recognizing human speech, similar to how Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri work. We had to ask questions verbally to the computer in order to guess a previously selected animal. It was a game very similar to ‘20 Questions’. This was an example of NLP as the computer had to recognise our voice and then process the question that we asked in order to answer it.  We created graphs in Python using various sets of data. Data Science programming was really hard but fun and interesting. We also were able to change the colour scheme of a picture, make the AI recognize certain parts of the picture etc. We really enjoyed CV Programming as we were able to manipulate the picture to morph into another picture. We also explored many online chatbots such as Cleverbot, Eliza, Jabberwacky etc. The final day was actually the most fun as we were able to see the projects related to AI done by the students of some other schools in Bangalore. We were able to see the real-life applications of AI. Then we were asked to come up with our own ideas and pitch it to Mr. Chawla. Some of the ideas that were pitched included Farming using AI (Using AI to calculate the amount of water to be used in irrigation, using AI in irrigation and pest prevention, so as to remove human error), Fitness app based on AI and Reminder app that reminds people who are suffering from chronic illnesses to take their medicine. The workshop concluded on a pleasant note with an inspiring speech from a CBSE official and an aim of continuing to build upon our innovations. The readiness workshop provided us with a clear image to carve a pathway for a future filled with innovation.

Is Technology a Boon or a Bane? An Essay

Through neocolonial trade relations, globalization has caused a world-wide division of labor, resources, and consumption—between former colonizers and the colonized. Technology—the latest in the choir of idols worshipped by the modern West—exacerbates this schism even as it reduces it. This article explores the implications of the products of technology for work, class, and caste in this last phase of neocolonialism. Technological devices that de-class us, by replacing human and animal workers, can also re-class us by dividing owners from the operators of machines.

Technology A Boon Or Bane Essay For Students

Introduction:

Technology has become a vital part of our daily lives in the modern period, penetrating many parts of our existence, including education. As students traverse the educational world, they must critically evaluate whether technology is a blessing or a curse. This essay will investigate both points of view, offering a more nuanced understanding of the impact of technology on kids.

Technology as a Boon:

One cannot ignore the countless benefits that technology provides to schooling. With the introduction of the internet, information accessibility has witnessed an incredible increase. Students now have access to a multitude of information, allowing them to widen their minds beyond the constraints of traditional textbooks. Online resources, educational apps, and e-books have transformed the learning experience, creating a dynamic and interactive academic environment.

In addition, technology has changed the way students interact and communicate. Virtual classrooms, video conferencing, and collaboration platforms enable students to communicate with one another beyond geographical barriers. This interconnection not only improves the learning experience, but it also prepares pupils for the globalised world into which they will inevitably be thrust.

Technology has improved the efficiency of administrative operations within educational institutions. Technology, from online registration systems to automated grading, has reduced administrative burdens on both students and educators, allowing them to focus more on the core aspects of teaching and learning.

Furthermore, technology technologies have made personalised learning experiences possible. Individual student needs are met via adaptive learning platforms, which ensure that each learner advances at their own speed. This personalisation accommodates various learning styles, enabling a more inclusive educational environment.

Technology as a Bane:

While the benefits of technology in education are clear, it is critical to recognise its downsides. The digital divide – the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not – is one of the key worries. Inequitable access can worsen existing discrepancies in educational achievement, separating rich and impoverished students.

Another challenge in the digital age is the prevalence of diversions. Students’ attention can be diverted away from their academic responsibilities due to the pervasiveness of smartphones and social media. During study hours, the temptation to engage in non-educational activities may impair academic performance and focus.

Furthermore, the quick speed of technology advancement makes it difficult for educational institutions to stay up. Outdated infrastructure, a lack of educator training, and financial constraints can all stymie successful technology incorporation into the curriculum. This implementation gap may result in an inefficient use of available resources.

Conclusion:

Finally, the impact of technology on pupils is a complicated combination of benefits and drawbacks. While technology has clearly transformed the educational landscape by providing unparalleled access to information and fostering global communication, it is not without drawbacks. The digital divide, possible distractions, and the need for constant adaptability all pose issues that must be addressed.

Finally, a balanced approach is essential. To reap the benefits of technology while reducing its negatives, educators, legislators, and the technology industry must work together. We can maximise the good impact of technology on students by prioritising fair access, supporting responsible use, and providing continual professional development for educators, transforming it into a true boon for the educational journey.

Essay on Modern Technology Boon Or Bane

Students are often asked to write an essay on Modern Technology Boon Or Bane in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on Modern Technology Boon Or Bane

What is modern technology.

Modern technology is all the new tools and gadgets we use every day. Think of smartphones, computers, and the internet. They make life easier by helping us talk to friends, find information, and do our work.

Technology as a Boon

Technology is a gift because it saves time and makes hard jobs simple. For example, washing machines clean clothes quickly, and with the internet, learning new things is just a click away. Doctors use technology to treat sick people better.

Technology as a Bane

Sometimes technology can be a problem. People might use it too much and not talk to each other face to face. Kids might play video games all day instead of playing outside. It can also break and cost a lot of money to fix.

Technology is both good and bad. It depends on how we use it. If we use it to help us and be careful not to overuse it, technology can make our lives much better.

250 Words Essay on Modern Technology Boon Or Bane

Modern technology: good or bad.

Modern technology is like a coin with two sides. One side shows us how it makes things better, while the other side shows us the problems it can cause. It’s important to look at both to decide if technology is a good thing or a bad thing.

Technology Makes Life Easier

First, let’s talk about the good side. Technology, like computers and smartphones, has made life much easier. We can talk to friends and family no matter how far they are. We can find answers to our questions instantly by searching on the internet. Also, doctors use new tools to help sick people get better. In schools, tablets and smart boards make learning fun for kids.

Problems with Technology

On the other side, technology can cause problems. Some people spend too much time on their phones or playing video games. This can make them less active and even lonely because they don’t talk to people face-to-face. Also, machines are doing jobs that people used to do, which means some people can’t find work.

Keeping a Balance

In the end, it’s all about balance. Technology can be a good thing if we use it to help us and not let it take over our lives. We must remember to spend time with others and not just with our gadgets. We should also learn new skills so we can work with technology and not be left behind.

To sum up, modern technology can be a good helper or a problem, depending on how we use it. It’s up to us to make sure we use technology to make our lives better and not let it cause new problems.

500 Words Essay on Modern Technology Boon Or Bane

Introduction to modern technology.

In today’s world, modern technology is a big part of our lives. We use it every day for work, learning, and fun. It includes things like computers, smartphones, the internet, and many machines that make jobs easier. People often wonder if technology is a good thing (a boon) or a bad thing (a bane). This essay will look at both sides to help us understand technology better.

First, let’s talk about how technology is a boon. A boon means something that is helpful or beneficial. Technology makes many things easier and faster. For example, with the internet, we can find information in seconds. Before, we had to go to a library and look through many books. Now, we can learn about anything from anywhere at any time.

Another good thing is how technology helps doctors. They use special machines to check what’s wrong inside our bodies without any cuts. This is much safer and less painful. Also, we can talk to friends and family who live far away because of apps on our phones. This helps us feel close even when we are not.

Technology in Education

Technology has also changed how we learn. Many schools use computers and tablets to teach lessons. This can make learning more interesting and fun. There are games and programs that help with math, science, and languages. Students can also take classes online if they cannot go to school.

But technology can also be a bane, which means it can cause trouble or harm. Sometimes, people spend too much time on their phones or playing video games. This can make them less active and not as healthy. It can also make it hard to talk to others face-to-face because they are used to texting or chatting online.

Another problem is that not everyone has the same access to technology. Some people cannot afford computers or the internet. This can make it hard for them to learn or find jobs because so much now depends on technology.

Technology and Safety

We must also think about safety. When we use the internet, we can share too much personal information. This can be dangerous because there are people who might try to steal or use this information in bad ways. Parents and teachers need to help kids learn how to be safe online.

In conclusion, technology can be both a boon and a bane. It helps us do things quickly and learn new stuff, but it can also be harmful if we use it too much or in the wrong way. It is important for everyone to use technology wisely. We should enjoy the good parts and be careful to avoid the problems it can bring. This balance will help us make the best of what technology has to offer.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Technology: Boon Or Bane

Twisha Kaul

Technology is one of the greatest inventions of humankind. It is so powerful that it shapes our thinking and our way of life within no time. It is ever-evolving.  Technology is a tool invented and sharpened by humans to make their life easier. Those who know the correct application of technology, be it any sphere of activity, have managed to make lives easier for themselves and, to some extent, also for others.

Technology has proven to be helpful in various fields, whether it be education or infrastructure. Online classes help children learn things while sitting at their homes comfortably during a curfew or some illness. Educational games help to create competitive skills within them, which allows them in the real world.

Online shopping has made it easier for people to buy products that are not available in their nearby shops or are too expensive. Online shopping brings with it, various sources of a job for the unemployed. Technology also helps us connect with our long-lost friends via multiple apps like skype, WhatsApp, etc.

But other than good aspects, technology has some harmful effects on children as well. From the surveys done every year, it is seen that the increase in usage of devices has caused many health problems in children like hypertension, migraine, etc. The use of these also leads to body damage, both physically and mentally. Technology has separated children from their parents. Due to this, children hardly talk to their parents and are busy chatting with their friends.

Writing is an art, but technology has taken away people’s minds from it. Standard English is not used while chatting on the phone. Instead, children are seen using abusive and slang language, which can cause damage to their thinking.

It is seen that technology has its pros as well as cons. It only depends on how people use it in their lives. If used judiciously, it’s a boon or else a bane.

Is Technology Boon or Curse for Our New Generation?

Is Technology Boon or Curse: This has been a very trending topic for a very long time as a Technology

Reported by Pankaj Bhatt

Published on 4 May 2024

Is Technology Boon or Curse: This has been a very trending topic for a very long time as a Technology boon or curse. A fast-forward one-liner statement is not a sufficient answer to this. In our everyday presence innovation has established its way, and instruction has been changed. A distant memory is the hours of looking over an Encyclopaedia. With data at the tips of our fingers, learning is currently unfathomable. (In spite of the fact that there is, obviously, the contention that innovation has antagonistically affected students’ learning plans, because of advanced interruptions and the effect on their capacities to focus.)

For our society improving education is an enormous issue. Grades, our apparent presentation against various countries, and various components have pushed training to the forefront of national authoritative issues, straightforwardly beyond healthcare reforms. Innovation can be used to improve educating and learning and help our children to be successful.

If Technologies are making us Slaves and we are getting fully dependent on them then obviously it is cursed. But if it gives us that one extra edge to achieve in our career then it’s a boon. A proper investigation of all the points and seeing the pros and cons are required to understand the effect and impact of technology on our new generation.

Pros of Technology

  • To understand certain concepts clearly sometimes  traditional learning  is not sufficient. To understand various disciplines better digital simulations and models can be helpful for students and also make them acquainted with the wonders of the modern world.
  • Communication is one of the important aspects of a student’s life. Ineffective communication is just not worthy in regard to education. Since innovation has filled up communication holes and has smoothened the flow of knowledge. Regardless of whether in a customary or a virtual study hall, with online joint effort, everybody can simply shape a network where educators dole out activities to their students continuously and children may request explanations, assuming any.
  • Gone are the days when they needed to experience heaps of books to locate a particular reference to improve their tasks and activities. With innovation, research has been a serious compelling device. Since a great deal of time is spared during research, children can join a ton of data and information in their ventures.
  • With the help of digital simulations and models, teachers are able to know the progress of their students. They are also able to prepare lessons for the students in an effective manner and even students have a clear view and understanding of the topic.
  • There is much technological advancement has been done so far and is in progress. Different artificial intelligence, World Wide Web is helping people to work efficiently and accurately. Apart from this, this modern era of Technology is enhancing people to utilise their time properly and get help in the field of development and discoveries. Many new inventions are made complicated things very easy to understand and more advancement can be done.

Cons of Technology

  • One of the great disadvantages of the internet is that students have become so dependent on technology that they are not able to use their own brains. They have become slaves to technology and don’t bother with learning or memorizing anything because they can just “Google it” on smartphones.
  • Technology has created distractions for them. While working on any topic if they find new links or popups on the pages, they easily get distracted and tend to click on those links. Leading to wastage of time and misuse of technology they even spend a lot of time gaming.
  • Sitting too long in Infront of a screen per day shows physical changes to the brain. This is concerning because it is affecting our brain organizing, self-controlling, planning, etc activities. It is also affecting our sleep schedules and quality.
  • Kids are not spending enough time with their family and friends. They like to connect virtually with people, sharing their life info like photos and texting online. Which is cutting them from society and creating social disconnects.

If our new generation is getting too attached to technology that to even search the small answer, they are dependent on the internet, then it will decrease their passion towards searching for new things. Kids are not utilizing it for useful purposes and using it for wasting time decreasing their creativity using so much on social media platforms.

We have made much advancement in different fields with help of Technology but so many sacrifices have also been taken.

However, proper utilisation of Technology for upgrading yourself is a boon. We have affected nature so much in the cost of getting development. That’s why our new generation needs to understand that Technology can be a boon or bane for them. Proper sustainable development can make Technology a boon otherwise severe impact can be seen.
