Kung bibigyan ka ng papel na lukot at punit, itatapon mo lamang ito. Dahil sa tingin mo ay hindi mo na ito mapapakinabangan pa. Ngunit kung ikaw ay bibigyan ng lukot at punit na pera ay magagawan mo pa ito ng paraan. Ipinapahiwatig nito na mahalaga ang pera sa atin at laging mayroong paraan tungkol dito.

Mayroon ngang kasabihang “hindi namumunga ng pera ang mga puno.” Na siyang totoo. Dahil ang mga pera ay hindi basta-bastang pinipitas sa mga puno.

Ang kahirapan ay parte na ng ating lipunan. Ito ay araw-araw na nararanasan ng mga taong kabilang sa mababang antas ng lipunan. Pilit na nilalabanan ng bawat indibidwal ang suliranin na ito upang mabuhay at makapagpayuloy ng bagong yugto ng buhay.

Maraming kabataan ang hindi nakakapag-aral dahil sa kahirapan. Maaaring dahil sa kawalan ng trabaho ng mga magulang. Ngunit ang kahirapan ay hindi hadlang sa tagumpay. Bagkus, gawain itong inspirasyon sa pagkamit nito.

Ang mga pera ay hindi rin napupulot sa basurahan. At hindi ito basta-basta itinatapon. Kailangan mo pa itong paghirapan.  Kung mayroon ka naman nito, dapat ay hindi mo ito sinasayang o ginagamit sa hindi importanteng bagay.

Kung sa tingin ninyo ay malabo na  ang pag-asa na malagpasan ang paghihirap, ay nagkakamali kayo diyan. Marami pang paraan, para umahon at guminhawa. Para sa mata, kailangan lamang ng salamin para luminaw ang paningin.

Maraming kapos sa pera na hindi makabili ng kanilang pangangailangan dahil sa pangungurakot ng ilan at ang pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin. Sana ay unahin ng gobyerno ang pagtulong at hindi ang kung anu-ano pang ginagawa. Kailangan lang natin maging matibay sa mga dadaanan nating pagsubok sa buhay. Pagsubok lamang iyan, huwag mong itigil ang laban! Pagsisikap ang tunay na sikreto ng tagumpay.

Isotopic Abundance Ratio Analysis of the Consciousness Energy Healing Treated Flutamide using LC-MS and GC-MS Spectrometry

Flutamide is used to treat prostate cancer, which acts by blocking the action of exogenous testosterone binding through its androgen receptor. This study was designed and performed to investigate the impact of the Trivedi Effect®-Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment on the structural properties and the isotopic abundance ratio of flutamide using LC-MS and GC-MS spectroscopy. Flutamide sample was divided into control and treated parts. Only the treated flutamide received the Trivedi Effect®-Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment remotely by a famous Biofield Energy Healer, Dahryn Trivedi. The LC-MS spectra of both the samples at retention time (Rt) 3.4 minutes exhibited the mass of the deprotonated molecular ion peak at m/z 275.08 [M-H]-. The peak area of the treated sample was significantly increased by 92.42% compared to the control sample, which indicated that the solubility profile of the treated sample was significantly increased compared to the control sample. The LC-MS based isotopic abundance ratio of PM+1/PM (2H/1H or 13C/12C or 15N/14N or 17O/16O) in the treated flutamide was significantly increased by 59.48% compared with the control sample. The GC-MS based isotopic abundance ratio of PM+1/PM in the treated flutamide sample was increased by 10.39% compared with the control sample. The results indicated that the 13C, 2H, 15N, and 17O contributions from (C11H11F3N2O3)+ to m/z 277 in the treated sample were significantly increased compared with the control sample. The isotopic abundance ratio of PM+1/PM (2H/1H or 13C/12C or 15N/14N or 17O/16O) in the treated flutamide was significantly increased compared to the control sample. The changes in the peak area and isotopic abundance could be due to changes in nuclei possibly through the interference of neutrino via the Trivedi Effect®-Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment. The new form of treated flutamide was formed that might have increase the chemical bond strength, stability, solubility, bioavailability, and efficacy, which could be very much useful to design more efficacious pharmaceutical formulations against prostate cancer, androgen-dependent skin and hair conditions including acne, seborrhea, hirsutism, and scalp hair loss, hyperandrogenism, as well useful for feminizing hormone therapy aimed at transgender women.

Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) has been highlighted in the health care sector in recent decades. On the other hand, due to its low demand, POCT is at a disadvantage compared to conventional equipment, since its cost is inversely proportional to the volume of use. In addition, for the implementation of POCT to succeed, it is essential to rely on the work of a multidisciplinary team. The awareness of health professionals of the importance of each step is perhaps the critical success factor. The trend towards the continuous advancement of the use of POCT and the great potential of its contributions reinforce the need to implement quality management tools, including performance indicators, to ensure their results. This review presents some advantages and disadvantages concerning POCT and the real need to use it. A worldwide call for the availability of easy-to-use health technologies that are increasingly closer to the final user is one of the main reasons for this focus.

Lingid sa ating kaalaman marami ng mga pangyayari ang nagaganap sa ating bansa sa kasalukuyan na kailangang bigyang pansin lalo na ang kahirapan na laganap sa buong bayan. Isa pang malalang problema ang druga kabilang dito ang mga kabataan.

Masisisi ba natin kung sila'y nalulong at napabayaan ng kanilang pamilya? Ang magulang ang dapat na gumabay sa kanilang mga anak ngunit subalit paano nito matutustusan ang pangangailan ng kanilang mga anak kung hindi naman sapat ang kanilang kinikita sa pang araw-araw na pangangailangan upang buhayin ang kanilang pamilya.

Hindi lang druga ang problema ng kabataan sa panahon ngayon, mga child workers na laganap at nakakalat sa ating paligid na naghahanap ng pagkakitaan. Sa murang edad sadsad na sila sa pagod at hirap dala ng kanilang trabaho. Isa pang lumalang problema ngayon ay ang prostitusyon kung saan dito naghahanap ng pag asenso ang karamihang kabataan lalo na ang mga kababaihan. Sila'y naghahangad lamang ng pag asenso sa ganoong pamamaraan.

Ngunit sa lahat ng mga kabikabilang problema sa ating pamayanan ang edukasyon ang pangunahing problema sa ating lipunan. Ika nga ng ating mga magulang ang edukasyon lamang ang tanging kayamanan na maibibigay sa kanilang mga anak. Ngunit paaano ito magiging kayaman sa maraming naghihirap nating mga kababayan na hindi nakapag-aral man lang?

Hindi ba't ito ang sanhi kung bakit karamihan sa ating kabataan ang hindi nakapag-aral dahil sa nagmamahalang matrikula sa ating paaralan. Wala kang mapapsukan na magandang trabaho kung wala kang hinahawakang diploma. Kung may trabaho man hindi sapat ang sahod para sa pang araw-araw na pangangailangan. Ganito ba ang gusto mo kaibigan?

Kung hindi lang sana ganito ka dungis ang sistema ng ating gobyerno hindi sana nating kailangan maghirap pa tulad ng nararanasan natin sa panahon ngayon. Malas nga lang tayo dahil sila'y mapagsamantala at makasarili. Hindi nila inisip ang kapakanan ng taong bayan na lalong naghihirap dahil sa kanilang kagagawan.

Sila'y nagpakayaman gamit ang pera ng kaban bayan habang tayo'y halos walang laman ang tiyan. Tama ba ang ginagawa nila? Pabayaan nalang ba nating magpatuloy ang kanilang pagnanakaw habang tayo'y baon na baon sa utang? Kailan pa tayo kikilos at makikiisa para sa ating bayan? Mag bingibingihan nalang ba tayo at magbulagbulagan ngayong alam naman natin kung ano ang tunay na dahilan kung bakit laganap parin ang kahirapan sa ating bayan?

Ikaw ano ang maitutulong mo bilang Kabataang Pilipino? Ika nga ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan, ngunit paano magiging lider ang isang Kabataan kung sila mismo hindi kikilos sa kung ano man ang mga nangyayaring problema sa ating bayan. Bigyan sana natin ng pansin ang mga kaganapan na lalong nagpapahirap sa ating buhay. Bilang Kabataang Pilipino malaki ang ating maitutulong sa ating bayan para sugpuin ang mga buwayang nagpapataba at wala ng ginawa kundi ang magpalaki ng tiyan.

Tayong mga Kabataan ang daan para sa kaunlaran ng ating bayan. Tayo ang tatapos sa mga nasimulan ng ating mga bayaning nakikipaglaban para sa kapakanan ng buong bansa. H'wag sana nating ibalewala at kalimutan ang kanilang paghihirap para makamtam natin ang tagumpay at tunay na kapayapaan.

Gather up a handful of images that seem to go together, and voila! It’s a photo essay, right? Well… no. Though, this is a common misconception.

In reality, a photo essay is much more thoughtful and structured than that. When you take the time to craft one, you’re using skills from all facets of our craft – from composition to curation.

In this guide, you’ll learn what makes a photo essay an amazing project that stretches your skills. You’ll also learn exactly how to make one step by step.

  • Photo essay vs photo story

A photo essay is a collection of images based around a theme, a topic, a creative approach, or an exploration of an idea. Photo essays balance visual variety with a cohesive style and concept.

What’s the difference between a photo essay and a photo story?

The terms photo essay and photo story are often used interchangeably. Even the dictionary definition of “photo essay” includes using images to convey either a theme or a story.

But in my experience, a photo essay and a photo story are two different things. As you delve into the field of visual storytelling, distinguishing between the two helps you to take a purposeful approach to what you’re making .

The differences ultimately lie in the distinctions between theme, topic and story.

Themes are big-picture concepts. Example: Wildness

Topics are more specific than themes, but still overarching. Example : Wild bears of Yellowstone National Park

Stories are specific instances or experiences that happen within, or provide an example for, a topic or theme. Example: A certain wild bear became habituated to tourists and was relocated to maintain its wildness

Unlike a theme or topic, a story has particular elements that make it a story. They include leading characters, a setting, a narrative arc, conflict, and (usually) resolution.

With that in mind, we can distingush between a photo essay and a photo story.

Themes and Topics vs Stories

A photo essay revolves around a topic, theme, idea, or concept. It visually explores a big-picture something .

This allows a good deal of artistic leeway where a photographer can express their vision, philosophies, opinions, or artistic expression as they create their images.

A photo story  is a portfolio of images that illustrate – you guessed it – a story.

Because of this, there are distinct types of images that a photo story uses that add to the understanding, insight, clarity and meaning to the story for viewers. While they can certainly be artistically crafted and visually stunning, photo stories document something happening, and rely on visual variety for capturing the full experience.

A photo essay doesn’t need to have the same level of structured variety that a photo story requires. It can have images that overlap or are similar, as they each explore various aspects of a theme.

Photo essays can be about any topic. If you live in a city, consider using your nature photography to make an essay about the wildlife that lives in your neighborhood . 

The role of text with photos

A photo story typically runs alongside text that narrates the story. We’re a visual species, and the images help us feel like we are there, experiencing what’s happening. So, the images add significant power to the text, but they’re often a partner to it.

This isn’t always the case, of course. Sometimes photo stories don’t need or use text. It’s like reading a graphic novel that doesn’t use text. Moving through the different images that build on each other ultimately unveils the narrative.

Photo essays don’t need to rely on text to illuminate the images’ theme or topic. The photographer may use captions (or even a text essay), or they may let the images speak for themselves.

Definitions are helpful guidelines (not strict rules)

Some people categorize photo essays as either narrative or thematic. That’s essentially just calling photo stories “narrative photo essays” and photo essays “thematic photo essays.”

But, a story is a defined thing, and any writer/editor will tell you themes and topics are not the same as stories. And we use the word “story” in our daily lives as it’s defined. So, it makes far more sense to name the difference between a photo essay and a photo story, and bask in the same clarity writers enjoy .

Photo stories illustrate a particular experience, event, narrative, something that happened or is happening.

Photo essays explore an idea, concept, topic, theme, creative approach, big-picture something .

Both photo essays and photo stories are immensely powerful visual tools. And yes, the differences between them can certainly be blurred, as is always the case with art.

Simply use this distinction as a general guideline, providing extra clarity around what you’re making and why you’re making it.

Creating photo essays is an amazing antidote if you’ve ever felt a lack of direction or purpose in your photography. Photo essays help build your photographic skills in at least 3 important ways.

1. You become more strategic in creating a body of work

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut of photographing whatever pops up in front of you. And when you do, you end up with a collection of stand-alone shots.

These singles may work fine as a print, a quick Instagram post, or an addition to your gallery of shots on your website. But amassing a bunch of one-off shots limits your opportunities as a photographer for everything from exhibits to getting your work published.

Building photo essays pushes you to think strategically about what you photograph, why, and how. You’re working toward a particular deliverable – a cohesive visual essay – with the images you create.

This elevates your skills in crafting your photo essay, and in how you curate the rest of your work, from galleries on your website to selecting images to sell as prints .

2. You become more purposeful in your composition skills

Composition is so much more than just following the rule of thirds, golden spirals, or thinking about the angle of light in a shot.

Composition is also about thinking ahead in what you’re trying to accomplish with a photograph – from what you’re saying through it to its emotional impact on a viewer – and where it fits within a larger body of work.

Photo essays push you to think critically about each shot – from coming up with fresh compositions for familiar subjects, to devising surprising compositions to fit within a collection, to creating compositions that expand on what’s already in a photo essay.

You’re pushed beyond creating a single pleasing frame, which leads you to shoot more thoughtfully and proactively than ever.

3. You develop strong editing and curation skills

Selecting which images stay, and which get left behind is one of the hardest jobs on a photographer’s to-do list. Mostly, it’s because of emotional attachment.

You might think it’s an amazing shot because you know the effort that went into capturing it. Or perhaps when you look at it, you get a twinge of the joy or exhilaration you felt the moment you captured it. There’s also the second-guessing that goes into which of two similar images is the best – which will people like more? So you’re tempted to just show both.

Ultimately, great photographers appear all the more skilled because they only show their best work. That in and of itself is a skill they’ve developed through years of ruthlessly editing their own work.

Because the most powerful photo essays only show a handful of extraordinary images, you’re bound to develop the very same critical skill (and look all the more talented because of it).

Photo essays are also a great stepping stone to creating photo stories. If you’re interested in moving beyond stand-alone shots and building stories, shooting photo essays will get your creative brain limbered up and ready for the adventure of photo stories.

A photo essay exploring the natural history of a favorite species is an exciting opportunity for an in-depth study. For me, that was a photo essay on emotive images of the American dipper (Cinclus mexicanus) as it hunts in streams. 

9 Simple steps to create your photo essays

1. clarify your theme.

Choose a theme, topic, or concept you want to explore. Spend some time getting crystal clear on what you want to focus on. It helps to write out a few sentences, or even a few paragraphs noting:

  • What you want the essay to be about
  • What kinds of images you want to create as part of it
  • How you’ll photograph the images
  • The style, techniques, or gear you might use to create your images
  • What “success” looks like when you’re done with your photo essay

You don’t have to stick to what you write down, of course. It can change during the image creation process. But fleshing your idea out on paper goes a long way in clarifying your photo essay theme and how you’ll go about creating it.

2. Create your images

Grab your camera and head outside!

As you’re photographing your essay, allow yourself some freedom to experiment. Try unusual compositions or techniques that are new to you.

Stretch your style a little, or “try on” the style of other photographers you admire who have photographed similar subjects.

Photo essays are wonderful opportunities to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and grow as a photographer.

Remember that a photo essay is a visually cohesive collection of images that make sense together. So, while you might stretch yourself into new terrain as you shoot, try to keep that approach, style, or strategy consistent.

Don’t be afraid to create lots of images. It’s great to have lots to choose from in the editing process, which comes up next.

3. Pull together your wide edit

Once you’ve created your images, pull together all the images that might make the cut. This could be as many as 40-60 images. Include anything you want to consider for the final essay in the wide edit.

From here, start weeding out images that:

  • are weaker in composition or subject matter
  • stand out like a sore thumb from the rest of the collection
  • Are similar to other stronger images in the collection

It’s helpful to review the images at thumbnail size. You make more instinctive decisions and can more easily see the body of work as a whole. If an image is strong even at thumbnail size to stand out from similar frames while also partnering well with other images in the collection, that’s a good sign it’s strong enough for the essay.

4. Post-process your images for a cohesive look

Now it’s time to post-process the images. Use whatever editing software you’re comfortable with to polish your images.

Again, a photo essay has a cohesive visual look. If you use presets, filters, or other tools, use them across all the images.

5. Finalize your selection

It’s time to make the tough decisions. Select only the strongest for your photo essay from your group of images.

Each image should be strong enough to stand on its own and make sense as part of the whole group.

Many photo essays range from 8-12 images. But of course, it varies based on the essay. The number of images you have in your final photo essay is up to you.

Remember, less is more. A photo essay is most powerful when each image deserves to be included.

6. Put your images in a purposeful order

Create a visual flow with your images. Decide which image is first, and build from there. Use compositions, colors, and subject matter to decide which image goes next, then next, then next in the order.

Think of it like music: notes are arranged in a way that builds energy, or slows it down, surprise listeners with a new refrain, or drop into a familiar chorus. How the notes are ordered creates emotional arcs for listeners.

How you order your images is similar.

Think of the experience a viewer will have as they look at one image, then the next, and the next. Order your images so they create the experience you want your audience to have.

7. Get feedback

The best photographers make space for feedback, even when it’s tough to hear. Your work benefits from not just hearing feedback, but listening to it and applying what you learn from it.

Show your photo essay to people who have different sensibilities or tastes. Friends, family members, fellow photographers – anyone you trust to give you honest feedback.

Watch their reactions and hear what they say about what they’re seeing. Use their feedback to guide you in the next step.

8. Refine, revise, and finalize

Let your photo essay marinate for a little while. Take a day or two away from it. Then use your freshened eyes and the feedback you received from the previous step to refine your essay.

Swap out any selects you might want to change and reorder the images if needed.

9. Add captions

Even if you don’t plan on displaying captions with your images, captioning your images is a great practice to get into. It gives context, story, and important information to each image. And, more than likely, you will want to use these captions at some point when you share your photo essay, which we dive into later in this article.

Add captions to the image files using Lightroom, Bridge, or other software programs.

Create a document, such as a Google or Word doc, with captions for each image.

In your captions, share a bit about the story behind the image, or the creation process. Add whatever makes sense to share that provides a greater understanding of the image and its purpose.

Photo essays allow you to explore deliberate style choices, such as a focus on shapes, patterns, textures, and lines. Since each photo is part of a larger essay, it encourages you to be bold with choices you might not otherwise make. 

5 Examples of amazing nature photo essays

1. “how the water shapes us” from the nature conservancy.

This gorgeous essay, crafted with the work of multiple photographers, explores the people and places within the Mississippi River basin. Through the images, we gain a sense of how the water influences life from the headwater all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Notice how each photographer is tasked with the same theme, yet approaches it with their own distinct style and vision. It is a wonderful example of the sheer level of visual variety you can have while maintaining a consistent style or theme.

2. “A Cyclist on the English Landscape” from New York Times’ The World Through A Lens series

This photo essay is a series of self-portraits by travel photographer Roff Smith while “stuck” at home during the pandemic. As he peddled the roads making portraits, the project evolved into a “celebration of traveling at home”. It’s a great example of how visually consistent you can be inside a theme while making each image completely unique.

3. “Vermont, Dressed In Snow” from New York Times’ The World Through A Lens series

This essay by aerial photographer Caleb Kenna uses a very common photo essay theme: snow. Because all images are aerial photographs, there’s a consistency to them. Yet, the compositions are utterly unique from one another. It’s a great example of keeping viewers surprised as they move from one image to the next while still maintaining a clear focus on the theme.

4. “Starling-Studded Skies” from bioGraphic Magazine

This beautiful essay is by Kathryn Cooper, a physicist trained in bioinformatics, and a talented photographer. She used a 19th century photographic technique, chronophotography, to create images that give us a look at the art and science of starling murmurations. She states: “I’m interested in the transient moments when chaos briefly changes to order, and thousands of individual bodies appear to move as one.” This essay is a great example of deep exploration of a concept using a specific photographic technique.

5. “These Scrappy Photos Capture the Action-Packed World Beneath a Bird Feeder” from Audubon Magazine

This photo essay from conservation photographer Carla Rhodes explores the wildlife that takes advantage of the bounty of food waiting under bird feeders . Using remote camera photography , Rhodes gives viewers a unique ground-level perspective and captures moments that make us feel like we’re in conversation with friends in the Hundred Acre Woods. This essay is a great example of how perspective, personality, and chance can all come into play as you explore both an idea and a technique.

The possibilities for photo essays are truly endless – from the concepts you explore to the techniques you use and styles you apply.

Choose an idea, hone your unique perspective on it, then start applying the 9 simple steps from above. 

  • The life of a plant or animal (your favorite species, a species living in your yard, etc)
  • The many shapes of a single species (a tree species, a bird species, etc)
  • How a place changes over time
  • The various moods of a place
  • A conservation issue you care about

As you zero in on a photo essay theme, consider two things: what most excites you about an idea, and what about it pushes you out of your comfort zone. The heady mix of joy and challenge will ensure you stick with it. 

Your photo essay is ready for the world! Decide how you’d like to make an impact with your work. You might use one or several of the options below.

1. Share it on your website

Create a gallery or a scrollytelling page on your website. This is a great way to drive traffic to your website where people can peruse your photo essay and the rest of the photography you have.

Putting it on your website and optimizing your images for SEO helps you build organic traffic and potentially be discovered by a broader audience, including photo editors.

2. Create a scrollytelling web page

If you enjoy the experience of immersive visual experiences, consider making one using your essay. And no, you don’t have to be a whiz at code to make it happen.

Shorthand helps you build web pages with scrollytelling techniques that make a big impression on viewers. Their free plan allows you to publish 3 essays or stories.

3. Create a Medium post

If you don’t have a website and want to keep things simple, a post on Medium is a great option.

Though it’s known for being a platform for bloggers, it’s also possible to add images to a post for a simple scroll.

And, because readers can discover and share posts, it’s a good place for your photos to get the attention of people who might not otherwise come across it.

4. Share it on Instagram

Instagram has changed a lot over the last couple of years, but it’s still a place for photographers to share their work thoughtfully.

There are at least 3 great ways to share your photo essay on the platform.

– Create a single post for each image. Add a caption. Publish one post per day until the full essay is on your feed. Share each post via Instagram Stories to bring more attention and interaction to your photo essay.

– Create a carousel post. You can add up 10 photos to a carousel post, so you may need to create two of them for your full photo essay. Or you might create a series of carousel posts using 3-4 images in each.

– Create a Reel featuring your images as a video.  The algorithm heavily favors reels, so turning your photo essay into a video experience can get it out to a larger audience.

I ran a “create a reel” challenge in my membership community. One member created a reel with her still images around a serious conservation issue. It gathered a ton of attention and landed her opportunities to share her message through YouTube and podcast interviews and publishing opportunities. Watch it here.

5. Exhibit it locally

Reach out to local galleries, cafes, pubs, or even the public library to see if they’re interested in hanging your photo essay for display. Many local businesses and organizations happily support the work of local artists.

6. Pitch your photo essay to publications

One of the best ways to reach an audience with your work is to get it published. Find publications that are a great fit for the theme and style of your photo essay, then pitch your essay for consideration. You gain a fantastic opportunity to share your work widely and can earn a paycheck at the same time.

Remember that if you want to get your photo essay published, you may want to hold back from sharing it publicly before you pitch it to publications.

Mga Sanaysay Tungkol sa Edukasyon

Tunay nga na ang maayos na eduksyon ang pamana ng mga magulang na hindi mananakaw ninuman. Hindi lahat ng tao ay may kakayahang makakuha ng maayos at pormal na edukasyon. Kaya naman sa mga taong may kakayahang makapag-aral at makapagtapos ng kanilang pag-aaral ay hindi dapat ito gawing biro o kaya ay ipagsawalang-bahala lamang bagkus ay maging mapagpasalamat.

Malaki ang naitutulong ng edukasyon sa buhay ng tao. Upang malaman ang kahalagahan nito, magandang mabasa mo ang mga halimbawa ng sanaysay tungkol sa edukasyon na nasa ibaba. Ang mga sanaysay na ito ay masusing pinag-isipan ng mga sumulat na maaring makaapekto kung paano mo tinatanaw o tinitingnan ang edukasyon na mayroon ka ngayon. Maaari mo rin itong gawing gabay kung sakaling gagawa ka din ng sanaysay sa kaparehong tema.

Ang pagkakaroon ng isang mataas at matibay na edukasyon ay isang saligan upang mabago ang takbo ng isang lipunan tungo sa pagkakaroon ng isang masaganang ekonomiya. Mataas na edukasyon na hindi lamang binubuhay ng mga aklat o mga bagay na natutunan sa ating mga university at paaralan. Bagaman, kasama ito sa mga pangunahing elemento upang magkaroon ng sapat na edukasyon, ang praktikal na edukasyon na nakabase sa ating araw-araw na pamumuhay ang siya pa ring dapat na piliting maabot. Matibay ang isang edukasyon kung ito ay pinagsamang katalinuhan bunga ng mga pormal na pag-aaral tungkol sa Mathematics, Science, English at mga bagay na tungkol naman sa buhay at kung paano mabuhay ng maayos.

Ang edukasyon ang nagiging daan tungo sa isang matagumpay na hinaharap ng isang bansa. Kung wala nito, at kung ang mga mamamayan ng isang lipunan ay hindi magkakaroon ng isang matibay at matatag na pundasyon ng edukasyon, magiging mahirap para sa kanila na abutin ang pag-unlad. Marapat lamang na maintindihan na ang edukasyon ay siyang magdadala sa kanila sa kanilang mga inaasam na mga mithiin.

Ang unang layunin ng edukasyon ay upang magkaroon ng kaalaman sa mga bagay-bagay at impormasyon sa kasalukuyan, sa hinaharap at sa kinabukasan. Ito ang nagsisilbing mekanismo na humuhubog sa isipan, damdamin at pakikisalamuha sa kapwa ng isang tao. Ito rin ang dahilan ng mga mabubuti at magagandang pangyayari sa ating mundo at ginagalawang kapaligiran.

Ang edukasyon ay kailangan ng ating mga kabataan sapagkat ito ang kanilang magiging sandata sa buhay sa kanilang kinabukasan. Ang kanilang kabataan ang siyang estado kung saan nila hinahasa ang kanilang mga kaisipan at damdamin sa mga bagay na kailangan nila sa kanilang pagtanda. Ang edukasyon ay mahalaga sapagkat ito ang nagiging daan sa isang tao upang magkaroon ng mga kaalaman tungkol sa kanyang buhay, pagkatao at komunidad na ginagalawan. Ito ang naghuhubog ng mga kaisipan tungo sa isang matagumpay na mundo na kailangan ng bawat isa upang lubusang mapakinabangan ang daigdig at malaman ang mga layunin nito.

Ang kabataan ay nararapat lamang na magkaroon ng sapat na edukasyon sa pamamagitan ng kanilang karanasan at pormal na programa na nakukuha sa mga paaralan. Ito ang kanilang magiging armas upang maharap nila ang mga bagay na kaakibat ng kanilang magiging kinabukasan. At dahil sila ang ating pag-asa, nararapat lamang na ibigay natin sa kanila ang lahat ng edukasyon na kailangan nila upang maabot nila ang mga pangarap na nais nilang matupad. 2011 Mga Sanaysay sa Filipino.

Ang Edukasyon ay mahalaga sa bawat isa dhil dito nakasalalay ang kinabukasan ng bawat tao at kung ano ang kanyang kahihinatnan d2 sa mundo. At ito ang ating sandata para magkaroon ng magandang buhay. Maraming paraan upang makamit natin ang isang mabuting hinaharap. Ang paghahanda para sa ating kinabukasan ang mabisang paraan upang makasiguro tayo sa ating pamumuhay. Ngunit may mga hadlang din na maaring pumigil sa ating pagtatagumpay, kaya marapat lang na maging maagap ang bawat isa sa atin upang tagumpay na malagpasan ang mga ito. At ang pagkamit ng tagump[ay ay kailangan buo determinasyon, tiwala sa sarili, may pananampalataya sa Diyos at marami pang mga katagian na dapat nating taglayin para makamit natin ang magandang bukas. “KAHIRAPAN AY DI HADLANG SA KINABUKASAN”. Lagi natin tandaan na tayo gumgawa ng ating sariling kapalaran kaya kung anuman ang ating tatahakin ay nakasalalay sa ating mga kamay. at lagi tayo sasandal sa ating Panginoon sa lahat ng ating mga ginagawa dahil walang imposible sa kanya kung tama at nararapat ang iyong ginagawa.

Edukasyon…susi ng tagumpay. Ang tanging yaman na kahit kailan ay hindi makukuhalalong-lalo ng hindi mananakaw ng kahit na sino man dito sa mundo. to ay pinakaimportante o pinakamahalagang bagay para magtagumpay sa ating mga buhay. Anu-ano ang kahalagan ngedukasyon para makatulong sa ating bayan! Paano makakamit ang tamang edukasyon! Paanomakakatulong ang edukasyon sa ating buhay!

Ang kahalagahan ng edukasyon para makatulong sa ating bayan ” halimbawa sa isangkomunidad iilan lamang ang may alam tapos ang karamihan ay walang pinag-aralan” mahalagatalaga ang edukasyon para umunlad ang ating bayan. #akakamit ang tamang edukasyon sa pamamagitan ng pag-aaral ng mabuti.

Sa buhay natin ay hindi lahat nakukuha ng walang paghihirap at pagsisikap, ganoon din sa pag-aaral. Dadaan ka muna sa butas ng karayom at ika nga nila bago ka makakatapos sa pag-aaral, kailangan malakas ang loob mong harapin ang kahit na ano man ang hadlang o suliranin dahilkung lahat ng hadlang ay kaya mong lampasan. Siguradong may maliwanag na bukas angmaghihintay sa iyo. Malaki ang tulong ng edukasyon sa ating mga buhay lalo na kung nakataposka ng iyong pag-aaral. Kapag nakatapos kana sa pag-aaral at nakakuha kana ng magandang trabaho ay gaganda na ang takbo ng buhay mo pero syempre pagdating naman sa trabaho dapat galingan ang pag tatrabaho para sa ikakaunlad ng buhay. Nakakapanghinayang lang ang iba nanakapagtapos na nga at lahat-lahat ay ayos ay hindi naman ginagamit ang pinag-aralan. Sayang lang ang ginastos at panahon na inilaan sa pag-aaral.

Kaya habang may buhay at may pagkakataon pang puwedeng mag-aral, sikapin at pilitin nating makakuha ng edukasyon para sa ikauunlad ng buhay dahil mahirap na hanggang sa kamatayan ay mangmang. Kaya nga nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa. Gagawa ka ng may pagtitiwala at pananalig sa Amang Lumikha para ang tulong Niya ay makakamit.

Edukasyon daw ang tanging paraan tungo sa magandang Kinabukasan. Gaano nga ba Kahalaga ang Edukasyon? Bakit ba napaka-importante nito? Ilan lang yan sa mga katanungan ng bawat isa sa atin.

September 18, 2009 namatay ang pinakamamahal kong Ama. Halos dinamdam ko ng sobra ang pagkawala niya. Unti-unti akong nanghina, nawalan ng lakas ng loob at unti-unting nawalan ng pag-asa. Sobrang sakit ang naramdaman ko noong mga panahong yon. Parang nadurog yong puso ko at nawalan ako ng ganang mag-aral. Kaya noong 2010, tumigil ako sa pag-aaral. Siguro nga sinayang ko lang ang mga oportunidad. Ang bawat pagkakataon ay binalewala ko lang. Kaya heto ako ngayon, walang natapos at punong-puno ng pagsisisi.

Sa panahon ngayon may mga taong nakapag-aral nga, ngunit wala namang mabuting asal. Yong puntong nakapagtapos nga sila ng magandang kurso, ngunit hindi naman umaakto ng maayos ayon sa kanilang pinag-aralan. Sa mahaba-habang panahon na lumipas, natutunan kong Pahalagahan ang Edukasyon. Para sa akin kasi, ang Edukasyon ay hindi lang pataasan ng marka o ng natapos na kurso. Kailangan mo ring panindigan na talagang may Pinag-aralan ka. Kailangan mong matutunan kung paano rumespeto ng ibang tao at kung paano irespeto ang sarili mo. Edukasyon ang masasabi kong pinaka-matibay na pundasyon. Para sa akin napakahalaga nito, dahil ito lang ang daan upang makamit natin ang ating mga mithiin. Edukasyon ang magsisilbing tulay natin sa pag-abot ng ating mga pangarap. Kaya nitong baguhin ang buhay ng isang tao. Kapag may pinag-aralan ka, madali na lang para sa’yo na abutin at kamtin ang hinahangad na tagumpay.

Ang Edukasyon ang pinakamahalagang pamana ng ating mga magulang. Lahat ng bagay sa mundo ay lumilipas, pero ang Karunungan kailan man ay hindi kumukupas. EDUKASYON lamang ang NATATANGING bagay na hindi MA-AAGAW ninuman. Hindi SAPAT na NAKAPAGTAPOS ka lang, kasi para sa’kin kailangan BAONIN mo rin ang KARUNUNGANG natutunan mo sa loob ng PA-ARALAN.

Prayoridad sa sektor ng edukasyon ang susi sa ating kaunlaran!Maraming beses na natin itong narinig. Ilang mga dakilang tao na rin angpaulit-ulit na sinasabi ito. Ilang pag-aaral na rin ang nagpapatunay na malaking bagay ang sapat at dekalidad na edukasyon ng mgamamamayan para sa kaunlaran ng isang bansa.

Ngunit sa ating bansa, sa matagal na panahon ay napabayaan ng ating pamahalaan ang mahalagang sektor na ito ng ating lipunan. Sakawalan ng magandang plano sa sektor ng edukasyon, maging ang mga college graduates natin ngayon ay hindi na nakakahanap ngtrabaho. Sa pag-aaral ng Labor Force Survey ng National Statistics Office, lumalabas na kahit nakatapos sa kolehiyo, 18% ng mga walangtrabaho sa Pilipinas ay mga college graduates. Pangatlo ang mga college graduates sa listahan ng mga madalas walang makuhangtrabaho mula taong 2006 hanggang 2011.

Hindi na nakakagulat ito dahil marami sa mga kolehiyo sa bansa ay nakakakuha ng zero passing rates sa mga professional examinations.Sa lahat din ng professional exams sa lahat ng disiplina sa bansa, lubhang mababa ang average passing rates. Sa datos ng Commissionon Higher Education o CHED, noong 2010 ay 33.91% ang average passing rate at noong 2011 naman ay tumaas lamang ito sa 35.37%average passing rate. Ibig sabihin, lubhang kakaunti lamang ang pumapasa sa mga exams dahil na rin sa hindi dekalidad na edukasyon samaraming bilang ng mga colleges at universities sa bansa.

Ang isa pang dahilan ng patuloy na mababang kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa ay ang kawalan ng mga mahuhusay na guro sa bansa.Kung titingnan ang teacher-pupil ratio ng Pilipinas kumpara sa mga karating bansa nito, tunay na may problemang kinakaharap ito. Sadatos ng United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization o UNESCO, noong 2009, sa bawat isang guro sa Pilipinas ay 39pupils ang tinuturuan nito o may ratio na 1:39. Samantala, ang teacher-pupil ratio sa bansang Malaysia ay 1:13 lamang; Thailand ay1:16; Indonesia naman ay 1:17 lamang; at maging ang bansang Vietnam ay may teacher-pupil ratio lamang na 1:20.

Tulad ng pagkain, tirahan, at trabaho, isang karapatang pantao ang pagkakaroon ng sapat at dekalidad na edukasyon. Dapat itongpahalagahan dahil bahagi ito ng pangangalaga ng dignidad ng tao. Ayon sa turo ng Simbahan, ang edukasyon din ang nagbibigaykakayahan sa sinuman na makilahok sa pagpapatakbo ng lipunan at sa pagsisigurong ang lahat ay nakikinabang sa mga bunga ng pag-unlad. Ang patuloy na pagbaba ng kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa ay patunay lamang ng napakalaking pagkukulang sa pangangalaga atpagtataguyod ng karapatang ito.

Panahon na samakatuwid na iangat ang sektor ng edukasyon sa ating bansa. Kailangang matukoy ng pamahalaan ang napakahalagangkontribusyon ng mga paaralan sa kaunlaran ng ating bansa. Kailangan ang tunay, mabilis at epektibong reporma para sa sektor ngedukasyon sa Pilipinas.

Kasalukuyan ng ipinapatupad ng pamahalaang Aquino ang programa nitong kung tawagin ay K+12. Ito ay ang pagdaragdag ng taon saBasic Education ng bansa. Sa programang ito ay hindi na tatanggapin sa unang grado ang batang hindi nag-kinder bilang unang hakbangsa pagpapatupad nito. At ang isa pa ay ang dalawang taong dagdag sa high school na ibig sabihin ay magkakaroon ng tinatawag naSenior High. Sa loob ng dalawang taon sa Senior High ay maaaring mamili ang isang estudyante ng kanyang espesyalisasyon naTechnical/Vocational course o isport at iba pang pagpipilian.

Ang programang ito ay naglalayong mapataas ang kalidad ng edukasyon ng bansa. Ang Pilipinas na lang kasi ang bukod tanging bansa saAsya ang may pinakamababang bilang ng taon sa Basic Education. Suportado ang programang ito ng ilang sektor tulad ng mga nasanegosyo. Sa ganitong paraan diumano ay maari ng makapagtrabaho ang mga Pilipino kahit high school lang ang tinapos.Napakalaki ng problema ng bansa pagdating sa edukasyon. Sa mga pampublikong paaralan pa lamang ay masyadong siksikan sa mgasilid. Bukod sa walang maayos na bentilador ay hindi na rin matutukan ng maayos ng mga guro ang kanilang mga estudyante sa sobrangdami. Ganito ang sitwasyon sa Metro Manila.

Naiiba naman ang kwento pagdating sa mga malalayong lugar sa bansa. Naririyan ang mga estudyante na maraming oras ang ginugugolsa paglalakad ng ilang milyang layo makarating lang sa paaralan. Mas malala pa sa iba, dahil tumatawid pa sa ilog at peligro ang inaabottuwing umuulan dahil sa rumaragasang baha. Mayroon ding dagat pa ang nilalangoy. Ganito kahirap ang dinaranas nila para langmakapagtapos sa elementarya at high school. Kung mahina-hina ang loob ay napipilitan na lang silang tumigil. Ayon na rin mismo saKagawaran ng Edukasyon ay malaki rin ang kakulangan ng mga silid, aklat at guro sa bansa. Sa kabila ng maraming tapos at lisensyadongguro ay may kakulangan pa rin. Inirereklamo rin nila ang mababang pasahod sa mga guro. Taon-taon rin ay naglilimbag ng aklat perokinakapos pa rin. Ang matagal ng problemang ito ng bansa ay matagal ng pinagpasa-pasahan ng ilang nagdaang administrasyon.

Sa pagpapasimula ng Pamahalaang Aquino sa K+12 program na ito ay mistulang dinadagdagan lang ang problema sa edukasyon ngbansa. Napakaganda ng layunin nito pero tulad ng ibang programa ay hindi naman naaangkop ang pagpapatupad nito. Bakit kaya hindimuna unahin ang mga kasalukuyang pagkukulang ng pamahalaan sa kasalukuyang suliranin. Kumpletuhin ang mga kulang na silidpaaralan. Magbigay ng mga aklat na tama ang nilalamang impormasyon. Magdagdag pa ng mga guro at dagdagan ang kanilang sahod atbenipisyo.

Hindi dapat gumaya ang Pilipinas sa ibang bansa na dinagdagan ang bilang ng taon sa pag-aaral upang tumaas lang ang kalidad ngedukasyon. Hindi nasusukat sa dami ng taong pinasok sa eskwelahan ang katalinuhan ng tao. Kaya namang matutunan ng mga Pilipinoang dapat na matutunan sa kasalukuyang umiiral na sistema. Ang katunayan dito ay ang mataas na kalidad ng edukasyon sa mgapribadong paaralan. Dahil ito ay suportado ng mga kagamitan at tamang pagtutok sa pag-aaral ng mga bata ng kanilang magulang. Maymga nananalo pa ngang estudyanteng Pilipino sa mga patimpalak sa ibang bansa.

Kung dadagdagan ng taon ang pag-aaral ay malulunasan ba nito ang kahirapan? Mababawasan kaya nito ang mga drop out? Kung sangayong sistema pa nga lang ay marami na ang drop out ay paano na kaya kapag tuluyan ng ipinatupad ito. Kahit sabihin pang libre angpag-aaral sa mga pampublikong paaralan ay gumagastos pa rin ang mga magulang sa mga pang-araw-araw na baon ng mga bata. Ibigsabihin nito kapag dinagdagan ng taon ay panibagong dalawang taon din ang dagdag pahirap sa mga magulang. Ang sinasabing para makapagtrabaho na kahit high school lang ang tinapos ay hindi rin totoo. Sa kasalukuyan, kahit may mga tinapos sa kolehiyo ay hirapmakahanap ng trabaho. Karamihan dito ay mga nagsipagtapos ng Nursing.

Bakit hindi baguhin ng pamahalaan ang paglunas sa problemang pang-edukasyon ng Pilipinas. Halimbawa nito ay ang malawakangpagpapatupad ng distant learning sa mga malalayong lugar. Nandiyan na ang teknolohiya ng Internet. Maaring sa halip na araw-araw napasakit sa pagpasok sa eskwelahan ay gawing lingguhan na lang. Pwede ring gamitin ang telebisyon sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ngmga educational channel na panonoorin ng mga bata na kasabay ng turo sa aktwal na panahon sa paaralan. Marami pang alternatibongparaan ang naghihintay na linangin para makatulong sa pag angat ng edukasyon ng Pilipinas. Nagagamit na ito sa ibang bansa.

Ang K+12 ay hindi sagot sa suliranin ng bansa pagdating sa edukasyon. Ito ay dagdag problema at walang malinaw na direksyon at hindinapapanahon. Huwag na sanang gawing mas komplikado ang problemang ito sa pamamagitan ng isang solusyong sa huli ay magigingdagdag pa pala sa suliranin.

Ang kaalaman sa paghawak ng pera ay isa sa mga batayang kasanayan upang maayos na makapamuhay sa makabagong panahon. Ang paksang personal na pananalapi ay nakabuo na ng mga batayang kaalaman na dapat ituro sa mga mag-aaral na nais magaral nito. Bagamat pwede kang matuto ng personal na pananalapi sa pamamagitan ng pananaliksik sa Internet, dapat nating siguruhin na lahat ng Pilipinong mag-aaral ay nabibiyayaan ng ganitong kaalaman. Kaya naman nais kong ipanukala na isama ang tamang paghawak ng pera sa ating pangkalahatang kurikulum ng edukasyon.

Tayo ay naghahangad ng masaganang pamumuhay para sa ating mga pamilyang Pilipino. Upang matupad ang ganitong adhikain, kinakailangan ang masusing paghawak sa pananalapi ng pamilya. May mga prinsipyo at pamamaraan na pwedeng magamit upang makatiyak na ang ating mga pamilya ay hindi malalagay sa alanganin sa larangan ng pananalapi. Maiiwasan ang pangungutang at kung anu-ano pang panandaliang remedyo kung ang paggamit ng pamilya ng pera ay pinaplano. Ang kaalaman tungkol sa personal na pananalapi ay lubhang makatutulong kung paano mapapabuti ng ating mga pamilya ang paghawak ng pera.

Kasama sa mga aralin sa personal na pananalapi ang pagtatakda ng kung magkanong halaga ang nais mong makamit sa loob ng isang takdang panahon. Kalakip nito ay ang mga napiling pamamaraan kung paano makakamit ang layuning ito. Nais nating himukin ang ating kabataan na mangahas na mangarap ng isang magandang kinabukasan para sa kanyang sarili at sa kanyang magiging pamilya sa araw ng bukas. Ang adhikaing ito ay posibleng mapukaw kung maipakikita ang mga posibilidad na pwedeng mangyari kung ang isang tao ay magsusumikap. Ang pag-aaral hinggil sa personal na pananalapi ay pwedeng magsilbing punla upang magkaroon ng ganitong kamalayan.

Sa pagmamasid natin sa ating pamayanan ay mapapansin natin ang marami sa ating katandaan na naghihikahos. Sila marahil ay nagkamal ng malaking halaga noong kanilang kabataan ngunit sa kanilang pagtanda ay nabaon na sa kahirapan. Ito ay tanda ng kawalan ng sistematikong pagpapaunlad sa kanilang kabuhayan. Malaki ang maitutulong ng sapat na kaalaman sa paghawak ng pera upang maiwasan ang masadlak sa ganitong kalagayan. Tuldokan na natin ang kawalan ng tamang gabay na pananalapi na siyang sanhi ng kahirapan ng ating katandaan. Turuan na natin ang ating kabataan sa wastong pamamaraan sa paghawak ng pera.

Talamak pa rin ang kahirapan sa ating bansa. Isa sa mga dahilan ng ganitong kalagayan ang kakulangan ng kaalaman sa paghawak ng pera. Marami tayong maling kaisipan na dapat lang na ituwid kung gusto nating maiwasan ang kahirapan. Kailangan nating patatagin ang personal na disiplina upang makamit natin ang masaganang pamumuhay. Kinakailangan na gamitin natin ang ibat-ibang pamamaraang pang pinansiyal upang hindi tayo masadlak sa kahirapan. Siguraduhin natin na ang ating mga mag-aaral ay nabibigyan ng tamang kaalaman tungkol sa pananalapi. Paramihin natin ang mga mamamayang naiaangat mula sa pagiging mahirap sa pamamagitan ng kaukulang edukasyon.

Makabuluhan at nararapat na idagdag sa pangkalahatang kurikulum na pang edukasyon ang mga aralin tungkol sa personal na pananalapi. Tulungan natin na mapaunlad ang pamumuhay ng mga kapwa Pilipino at mabawasan ang kahirapan sa ating bansa. Makibahagi tayo sa mga nagsusulong na isama ang mga aralin sa personal na pananalapi sa mga pinag-aaralan sa mababa, mataas, at kolehiyong antas ng edukasyon. Sama-sama nating ipahatid sa mga kinauukulan sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon at maging sa ating mga mambabatas sa Kongreso ang pangangailangan na maipatupad ang panukalang ito.

Ang mga natutununan ay makatutulong sa kanila hanggang sa kanilang pagtanda. Ang kailangan lang gawin ng kabataan ay buong pusong tanggapin ito sa pamamagitan ng pag-aaral nang mabuti at pagsasabuhay nito. Kung lubos na maiintindihan ng bawat mag-aaral ang tunay na kahalagahan ng edukasyon, maiiwasan sana ang mga karaniwang suliraning hinaharap ng kabataan ngayon gaya ng hindi planadong pagkabuntis, maagang pag-aasawa at pagtigil sa pag-aaral. Ang edukasyon ay isang bagay na hinding-hindi maaagaw ninuman. Ito ay kailangan upang maisakatuparan ang pangarap ng isang bata. Di nga ba’t ang mga kabataan ang pag-asa ng ating bayan? Kaya dapat lang na magkaroon ng tama at angkop na edukasyon para naman ang pangarap ng ating mga ninuno na mabuting kinabukasan para sa bayan ay makamtan.

Ang pagkakaroon ng isang mataas at matibay na Edukasyon ay isang saligan upang mabago ang takbo na isang lipunan tungo sa pagkakaroon ng isang masaganang ekonomiya. Mataas na Edukasyon na hindi lamang binubuhay ng mga aklat o mga bagay na natutunan sa ating mga unibersidad at paaralan. Ang unang layunin ng Edukasyon ay upang magkaroon ng kaalaman sa mga bagay-bagay at impormasyon sa kasalukuyan, sa hinaharap at sa kinabukasan. Ito ang nagsisilbing mekanismo na humubog sa isipan at damdamin at pakikipagsalamuha sa kapwa ng isang tao. Ito rin ang dahilan ng mga mabubuti at magagandang pangyayari sa ating mundo at ginagalawang kapaligiran. Ang Edukasyon ay mahalaga sapagkat ito ay nagiging daan sa isang tao upang magkaroon ng mga kaalaman tungkol sa kanyang buhay, pagkatao at komunidad na ginagalawan. Ito ang naghuhubog ng mga kaisipan tungo sa isang matagumpay na mundo na kailangan ng bawat isa upang lubusang mapakinabangan ang daigdaig at malaman ang mga layunin nito.

Tunay ngang ang edukasyon sa buhay ng bawat isa ay kapara ng isang walang katapusang paglalakbay sa mundong sinasaklawan ng aspektong ‘pagbabago’. Ito ang pinaka-makapangyarihang sandata na kahit sinuman ay walang kakayahang baguhin at angkinin sapagkat ito ay permanenteng nakaukit na sa diwa at kamalayang pantao ng isang nabubuhay. Sa bawat umaga ng ating buhay, tayo ay binabasbasan ng Poong Lumikha ng kalayaan upang makaanib at makasabay sa kung ano mang kakatwa ang sumasaklaw sa ating lipunang kinabibilangan. Hindi man lingid sa ating kamalayan subalit buhat nang tayo ay nasa sinapupunan pa lamang ay batid na natin ang espiritu ng ‘pagkatuto’. Maging sa kauna-unahang pagsambit natin ng salitang “mama” hanggang sa tayo ay unti-unting nabihasa sa ating “abakada” tayo ay nabibilang na pundasyon ng edukasyon. Karaniwang pamantayan sa edukasyon na kung ang tao ay nasa gulang tatlo na ay maari na itong magsimulang pumasok sa isang paaralan. Ito rin ay patuloy na nag-iiwan ng hindi mga matatawarang implikasyon ng pagbabago sa aking pagkatao na siyang dahilan kung bakit ganito ako katatag ngayon. Bukod sa mga karaniwang talakayin, prinsipyo at pang-akademikong layunin na siyang ipinapabatid ng edukasyon, ito rin ang nagsilbing balangkas upang mabuksan ko pa ang lagusan sa kabilang ibayo. Mula dito ay binigyan din ako ng pagkakataon upang makakilala ng iba’t ibang deskripsyon ng aking kapwa tao at mga karanasang aking daldalhin habambuhay. Ito ay ang aking karanasan noong ako ay nasa ika-4 na baitang. Ang karanasan na marahil para sa akin ay mapanglaw at natatangi lamang.

Isa akong walang kwentang mag-aaral. Oo, tama ang nababasa mo. Wala akong ibang inisip noon kundi ang makawala sa paaralan na kapara ng isang bartolina sa akin ay nagbibigay lamang ng pasakit at matinding paghihirap. Ang tanging namumutawi na lamang sa aking isipan noon ay ang pagpasok buhat sa kagustuhan ng aking mga magulang. Hindi man hayag sa aking mga magulang ang kanilang pangingimbulo subalit nararamdaman ko ito. Pinipilit ko itong labanan subalit wala akong magawa. Sapagkat noo’y wala pa akong kabatiran patungkol sa mahalagang papel ng edukasyon sa aking magiging kinabukasan. Wala pa akong alam sa edukasyon maliban sa ito ay “mahirap at walang kwenta”. Nagdaan ang maikling panahon at dito ay nakilala ko si Ginang Adora Madayag. Ang aming guro sa asignaturang Filipino. Siya ay may edad na sa panahong iyon subalit napakalakas ng kanyang impresyong iniwan sa akin. Hindi ko maipaliwanag subalit dahil sa kanyang mga pangaral ay tila unti-unting nagbago ang pagtingin ko sa aking sarili na noo’y walang pakialam sa halaga ng edukasyon. Sa kanya ko rin natutuhan na hindi lamang pala akademikong kaalaman ang batid na ipamalita ng mga talakayin sa paaralan bagkus ay naglalayon din itong bigyan ang lahat ng pagkakataong makabuo ng pagkakaibigan at pamilya sa lahat ng aspektong sinasaklawan nito. Hindi lang dapat kaalaman ang ating panghawakan mula sa ating mga guro nararapat ding maunawaan natin ang tunay na karunungan mula dito. Sa markang “90” ako nagsimulang yumabong at nagpatuloy sa pagkamit ng aking mga adhikain sa paaralan. PHOTO ESSAY | Filipino American Activists Commemorate 50th Anniversary of Philippine Martial Law

On the evening of Sept. 20, an estimated 100 Filipino American activists and community members from BAYAN USA Seattle, Malaya Movement, International Coalition of Human Rights in the Philippines Seattle, Kabataan Alliance Washington, and the International League of People’s Struggle Seattle-Tacoma gathered for the 50th anniversary of martial law being declared in the Philippines by Ferdinand Marcos.

Several local Filipino American activists traveled to New York City to protest President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s first visit to the U.S. under his term at the United Nations General Assembly. As reported by ABS-CBN, three Filipino American activists were arrested outside Asia Society’s headquarters, where Marcos Jr. had been invited to deliver an address.

The commemoration included a flash choir mob at the Seafood City entrance inside Westfield Southcenter mall, with participants singing “Bayan Ko,” “Babae,” and “Tatsulok” with the accompaniment of a guitar. The performance was followed by clapping and cheering from onlookers, before the crowd made its way to the parking lot.

Candles were lit and used to create stage lines for various speakers, including a couple of martial law survivors from the Marcos era in the Philippines. The event wrapped up with chants and another performance from choir and community members.

‘May With Mary’ in the Vatican Gardens

PHOTO ESSAY: Throughout the month of May, the Vatican Gardens is open to pilgrims from around the world for a special tour in honor of the Blessed Mother.

ROME — Created last year in collaboration with the Vatican Museums, the “May With Mary” pilgrimage includes 10 stops at some of the most important images and statues of the Madonna in the Gardens, which are all replicas or miniatures of existing sanctuaries across the world.

Offered every Wednesday and Saturday, the tour led by Sister Emanuela Edwards of the Missionaries of Divine Revelation allows pilgrims to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Vatican Gardens by walking through the various Marian images, which have all been gifted to or from popes, found throughout the Vatican's beautiful grounds.

“There are about 27 images of Our Lady that adorn the Vatican Gardens, which reflect the many ways in which the Holy Fathers wanted to honor our Blessed Mother throughout the centuries,” Sister Emanuela, head of the Educational Activities Office of the Vatican Museums, told the Register.

“Because we have apparitions of Our Lady from all parts of the world in the Vatican Gardens, we are reminded of the many ways in which Our Lady has tried to tell people to come back to her Son.”

The Marian grottos, frescos and statues featured in the “May With Mary” tour are connected to the devotions of people across the globe who have turned to the Queen of Peace in times of war and struggle. For this reason, the pilgrims stop at each shrine to pray for this same intention: peace.

“Given the state of our world today and the call from our Holy Father, being so incessant for peace, we have decided this year to offer the pilgrimage for peace,” Sister Emanuela explained. “At each sanctuary of Our Lady, we say a Hail Mary for peace, and throughout the visit, I underline where and how Our Lady has intervened in the story of humanity to bring about peace.”

Our Lady of the Watch (Italy)

According to tradition, on Aug. 29, 1490, the Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant, Benedetto Pareto, near Genoa in Italy and asked him to build a chapel on a local mountain.

The Italian name of the shrine is Madonna della Guardia, meaning “Our Lady of the Watch.” The shrine is so called because in the Middle Ages, the mountain on which the shrine is built was a strategic observation station for monitoring the movement of armies and ships.

“Genoa is also the place where Pope Benedict XV came from,” Sister Emanuela pointed out. At the time, because of the unresolved dispute between Church and state in Italy, “the popes couldn’t leave the Vatican, and so the people of Genoa sent a part of Genoa to the Holy Father, to give him consolation.”

“Just as mountains were used in antiquity to watch over the city, so Our Lady of the Watch is here in this high point of the Vatican, to look over the Holy Father and all who come to visit the gardens.”

Our Lady of Lourdes (France)

Between Feb. 11 and July 16, 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared to 13-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in the Massabielle grotto near her home. According to Bernadette, the Lady she saw was a young woman of 16 or 17 clothed in a white robe and a blue sash, with yellow roses covering her feet and a large rosary on her right arm. On March 25, she told the young, poor and uneducated girl: “I am the Immaculate Conception.”

Since 1858, thousands of pilgrims have come to Lourdes every year, seeking a cure for their illnesses and asking for the intercession of Our Lady.

“This grotto was a gift for Pope Leo XIII, who was very devoted to Our Lady and who wrote a Marian encyclical every year of his pontificate,” Sister Emanuela explained. “Also, he was involved in the Roman question and couldn’t leave the Vatican during his pontificate. Because he couldn’t visit Lourdes, the bishop of Tarbes made this wonderful grotto, and it was brought here into the Vatican so that the Pope, although being here, could visit the grotto of Lourdes.”

“Many of the Holy Fathers have been particularly devoted to this grotto,” Sister Emanuela shared, noting that Pope Benedict XVI would often come here to pray the Rosary. Something unique about it, she added, is that the altar in the grotto is the actual altar that was placed in the Massabielle grotto after the apparitions. It was gifted to the Vatican in 1965 by Pope St. John XXIII.

Another “curious thing,” Sister Emanuela continued, is that Our Lady “doesn’t have a rosary with the typical five decades. She has a rosary with six decades, because in that place in France, where Our Lady appeared, there was a practice of saying an extra decade for the holy souls. So when Our Lady appeared to speak to a young girl of that place, she appeared with a rosary that she recognized.”

Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexico)

According to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared five times to Mexican peasant St. Juan Diego and his uncle, Juan Bernardino, in December 1531. She identified herself as “the Mother of the True God” and instructed St. Juan to have the local bishop build a church on the site. As a sign for the bishop, she left an image of herself imprinted miraculously on his tilma , a poor-quality “cactus-cloth” garment.

“The moment we see on the statue,” Sister Emanuela pointed out, “is the moment when Juan Diego finally arrives to see the bishop, and he lets his tilma fall down. The roses, as you can see, fall to the ground, and on his tilma we see an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is miraculous in many ways.”

“Our Lady, who we can call the first evangelist, is quite rightly celebrated as the patron of the Americas since she appeared to convert the whole of the Americas,” Sister Emanuela also said, pointing out that “Our Lady appeared with the look of the Indigenous people of that place because she is the Mother of All Nations.”

“At a time when we’re praying for peace, I think it’s very important to remember that Our Lady appeared as an Indigenous person to remind us that she is the mother of everyone and, therefore, that we are all in the great family of God.”

Our Lady of Fátima (Portugal)

One of the best-known modern apparitions of the Virgin Mary occurred in Fátima, Portugal, in 1917, on the 13th day of each month for six months, when Our Lady appeared to three Portuguese children: Siblings Sts. Francisco Marto and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Venerable Lúcia dos Santos.

“On this statue, we can see Our Lady, who bends over towards the shepherd children,” Sister Emanuela said, noting that the halos around the Virgin Mary’s head are “an allusion to the Miracle of the Sun” that occurred during her final apparition on Oct. 13, 1917. The statue also has the date “13 May 1981” engraved on it, in memory of the attempted assassination of Pope St. John Paul II, who claimed that “a Mother’s hand” had deflected the bullet.

“Our Lady appeared in Fátima with a peace plan for the world, to call people back to the Gospel, and to consecrate themselves to her Immaculate Heart,” Sister Emanuela emphasized, underlining that Pope Francis followed the Fátima appeal by consecrating the cause of peace to the Queen of Peace.

“When war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, Pope Francis consecrated the world to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart. It is very beautiful to think that even today Our Lady’s message resonates in the lives of these Holy Fathers, who have listened to the call of our Blessed Mother and acted just as she said.

“And so we invite all our guests to pray for peace in the world and in these war-torn places, exactly as Our Lady asked of the three Shepherd children long ago in Fátima.”

“This is a statue inspired from a devotion that started in Seville, but which later got taken to Panama, of which she [Santa Maria la Antigua] is the patron. You can see that Our Lord looks like a little man. This is because, in the Middle Ages, they wanted to show that although he was a child, Jesus was still God.”

“With one hand he is blessing, but in the other hand, he holds a robin red breast,” Sister Emanuela pointed out. “This a reference to the homilies of St. Isidore of Seville, who told the story of how a robin came to visit Christ while he was on the cross. The robin tried to remove the thorns from his head but instead injured himself, and that is how he got his red breast.”

“Our Lady is holding a rose because she is the Immaculate Conception. The rose doesn’t have any thorns: It is as it would have been in paradise, before original sin.”

Our Lady of Częstochowa (Poland) : At the heliport stands a statue of the Queen of Poland, donated by the Pauline Fathers to Pope St. John Paul II, so that Our Lady could greet him as he traveled to and from the Vatican by helicopter.

12 graduates awarded library prizes for best senior essays

Each year, the library invites Yale College seniors to submit their senior essays for consideration to win one of three prizes for excellence: the Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award, the Diane Kaplan Memorial Prize, and the Yale Library Map Prize. The winners are selected by librarians or faculty members, and the prizes are funded by Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

The prizewinners are each awarded a cash prize in the amount of $500 (honorable mention recipients receive $250), and all winners’ essays are published on EliScholar, Yale Library’s digital platform for scholarly publishing. As is the tradition, students receive their awards at their residential commencement ceremonies.

The Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award

The Harvey M. Applebaum ’59 Award recognizes a student whose senior essay or capstone project substantially draws on national government information or intergovernmental organization (IGO) information, including documents or data. Yale Library has been a designated federal depository library since 1859.

The Applebaum award was presented to Henry H. Carroll , Davenport College, for the essay “Ship Shaping: How Congress and Industry Influenced U.S. Naval Acquisitions from 1933—1938.” Read Henry Carroll’s essay .

Honorable mention was awarded to Nina Grigg , Benjamin Franklin College, for the essay “Surveyor: Scratching for a Wild Moon.” Read Nina Grigg’s essay .

The Diane Kaplan Memorial Prize

The Diane Kaplan Memorial Prize recognizes prizewinning students’ excellent use of research materials from the library’s diverse collections and also the high quality of their writing.

Three students received the Diane Kaplan prize this year:

Leo Egger , Trumbull College, for the essay “‘Living Its Strange Life’: A Literary Biography of Margery Latimer from the Archives in 18 Scenes.” Read Leo Egger’s essay .

The Library Map Prize

The Library Map Prize recognizes students whose senior essays or projects make use of one or more maps or charts in substantive ways. Students may either create the maps or refer to maps found online or in the library’s special collections.

This year the Map Prize was awarded to two seniors:

Lisa Dong , Pierson College, for the interactive StoryMap essay “So, Where Are Your Really From?: A Digital Humanities Repository Mapping ‘Home, Identity, and Belonging’ within the Intimacies of the Fuzhounese Experience.” View Lisa Dong’s web-based essay .

Nick McGowan , Pauli Murray College, for the essay “Rebirth: Investigating Industrial Gentrification and the Land Use Policy in Chicago’s West Loop.” Read Nick McGowan’s essay .

The Department of History Prizes

The library also stewards the funds for three American History prizes, selected by faculty members in the Department of History. This year, five prizes were awarded for best senior essays.

Julia Aerin Hornstein , Ezra Stiles College, won the Howard R. Bilang isang miyembro ng isang komunidad at bahagi ng isang lipunan mayroon kang tungkulin na makilahok sa mga bagay at kaganapan na alam mong makakatulong para sa iyong pamayanan.

Ang Bolunterismo naman ay naglalarawan sa kusa nating pagkilos o pagtulong sa mga taong nangangailangan. Dito, hindi tayo naghihintay ng kapalit at gusto lamang natin na matulungan ang mga tao at mapaganda ang kanilang antas ng pamumuhay.

A Soldier’s Final Journey Home

Sgt. Kennedy Sanders was killed in a drone attack on a U.S. outpost in Jordan. A collection of photos offers a glimpse into her life.

“This is what they sent us,” Oneida Sanders said, kneeling beside a heavy wooden chest in her living room. “These are Kennedy’s things.”

Sgt. Kennedy Sanders’s belongings were shipped home to her parents after she was killed: Dog tags, identification cards, Polaroids of her family. Gold jewelry and a quarter that appeared to be stained with blood.

The items offered a glimpse into the person, soldier and daughter that Kennedy was and who she had hoped to become.

Kennedy was serving on a U.S. military outpost in Jordan in January when an Iran-backed militia launched a drone attack on the base. Less than 24 hours later, two uniformed service members showed up on the doorstep of Oneida and Shawn Sanders in the small town of Waycross, Ga.

Ms. Sanders wasn’t home that morning, but her husband, Shawn, was. He told her to return home right away and then began calling family members and friends, asking them to come to the house.

When Ms. Sanders arrived, one of the soldiers read a statement informing them that their 24-year-old daughter had been killed in action.

“As soon as I got into the house and saw the two officers standing in the living room, I collapsed,” Ms. Sanders said.

The last time Ms. Sanders heard her daughter’s voice was the day before she was killed. They had talked about the type of Girl Scout cookies Kennedy wanted her mother to send and her decision to re-enlist in the Army.

Kennedy’s unit, a team of engineering specialists trained to deploy on short notice and build infrastructure like roads and airstrips, had arrived in Jordan shortly after the war between Israel and Hamas began in October. The soldiers were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, a mission to combat the Islamic State, which has claimed the lives of 113 U.S. service members since it began in August 2014, according to the latest Defense Department casualty report .

Sgt. William Jerome Rivers and Sgt. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett were also killed in the drone strike in Jordan.

Kennedy’s parents have grappled with the pain of outliving their child ever since. “It’s heavy," Ms. Sanders said, pausing briefly, her voice notably changed when she spoke again. “It’s heavy.”

Family had always been important to Kennedy. Even as an adult she preferred being home. From a young age, she looked after her twin brother, Kendall. She was protective of her younger brother, Christian.

She was known in Waycross for her athletic ability, leadership, work ethic and style. She was polite but didn’t have time for small talk. But when people got to know her they usually found she was an extrovert, the life of the party, Ms. Sanders said.

During a dignified transfer in February at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, Kennedy’s flag-draped transfer case was the last of the three carried off a military cargo plane. President Biden stood, hand over heart, on the cold, wet tarmac to pay his respects as the commander in chief.

Mr. and Ms. Sanders said that Mr. Biden met with them privately at Dover and expressed a genuine understanding of their tremendous pain as he, too, had lost a child.

Mr. Biden posthumously promoted Kennedy from specialist to sergeant and awarded her a purple heart, one of the military’s most distinguished decorations.

After the dignified transfer at Dover, Kennedy’s remains were returned to Waycross.

Kennedy’s parents did not see their daughter’s body until just before the public viewing on Feb. 16. The family still has not received the official autopsy report from the Defense Department, leaving them to speculate about the precise cause of her death.

“You know, if you think about an explosion victim, your mind goes all types of directions,” Ms. Sanders said. “I didn’t know what was coming back to us in that box.” Seeing her daughter’s body in one piece “was a relief for me,” she said.

People from Waycross and the surrounding area filed into the viewing for Kennedy. For hours, friends and neighbors approached Ms. Sanders in tears to hug her, pray with her and offer their condolences.

“I don’t feel strong,” she said, referring to the day of the viewing. “I feel like, at any moment, I can have a breakdown, at any second, but it is a very deliberate and conscious effort just to get up every day and shower, brush my teeth, do basic things.”

The next day hundreds of people attended Kennedy’s funeral service at the local middle school. Ms. Sanders was overwhelmed with emotion as she and her family slowly made their way down the aisle to see Kennedy one final time.

As the service ended, pallbearers placed Kennedy’s flag-draped casket in the back of a horse-drawn carriage to be taken to Oakland Cemetery.

At graveside, service members folded the flag, and an officer knelt to hand it to Mr. Sanders, himself a former Marine.

Kennedy and her family — her father, cousins and uncles — dedicated their lives to the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force.

The family has found that it is not alone, as the city of Waycross has come together to preserve Kennedy’s memory.

The street she grew up on is now named after her, a sprawling mural has been painted on the side of a business downtown, and scholarships in Kennedy’s name have been created. Her name was recently engraved on the Waycross Veterans Memorial.

Months after her death, a task as simple as opening the mail can bring the harsh reality of Kennedy’s absence rushing back, as it did in April when Ms. Sanders received a letter from the county election office informing her that her daughter would be removed from the list of registered voters.

“Whenever you deal with this, you are in disbelief and shock for a long time,” said Ms. Sanders. “But every now and then, you know, something happens that makes you realize that it’s really real, and she is really gone.”
