How to create letters with pictures in PowerPoint slides

To create a picture like this, you need two simple steps:

   1.   Create a shape from a letter.

   2.   Add a picture to the shape.

To create a shape from a letter, do the following:

   1.   Add any shape to the slide, for example, a rectangle:

   1.1.   On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, select Shapes :

   1.2.   In the Shapes list, from the Rectangles group, select and add to the slide the Rectangle shape:

   2.   Add the letter you would like to use in front of the shape, for example:

   3.   Select the shape and the letter and then on the Shape Format tab, in the Insert Shapes group, choose the Merge Shapes dropdown list and then select Intersect :

   4.   Right-click on the shape and then choose Format Shape... in the popup menu:

   5.   On the Format Shape pane, in the Shape Options tab:

  • Choose Picture or texture fill ,

  • In the Insert Pictures dialog box, choose the picture location, select the picture file, and then click Open or Insert :

LETTER WRITING STRUCTURE AND LAYOUT

DEFINITION • A Letter is really a piece of conversation in writing.

LAYOUT • 1.The Indented Style • 2.The Block Style • 3.The Semi- block Style • 4.The Hanging – indented Style

THE FULL- BLOCKED STYLE

COMMON COMPONENTS OF BUSINESS LETTERS • 1 Heading • 2 Date • 3 Reference • 4 Inside address • 5 Attention line • 6 Salutation • 7 Subject • 8 Body • 9 Complimentary close • 10 Signature • 11 Identification marks • 12 Enclosure

HEADINGS • Name, address and other details are printed on the top of the page • Any other information is indicated in the margin.

RULES OF WRITING DATE • Typed two space below the last line of the letter head • Indicated on the upper right hand corner or depending on the format you adopt • Preferable way of writing should be in a logical order, if so no comma is used

CONTINUED • Name of the month and year is written in full • No suffix as –nd or –th is added to the day. • EXAMPLE: 2 August 2007 August 2, 2007

REFERENCE • Now a days companies prefer to indicate the reference number in the body of letters: Thank you for your letter No. AB/46/P497 of April 2, 2009.

INSIDE ADDRESS • Should be written two spaces below the date and two spaces below the attention line • If no attention line then two space above the salutation in the left margin • The details should not be abbreviated • Names should not be misspelt

SPECIAL MARKINGS • It ensures prompt attention • It’s written two space below the inside address and two space above the salutation • This line is generally underlined • Example: • Attention: The Sales Manager

SALUTATION • Two spaces below the attention line/inside address • Depends upon-1.personal relationship • 2.form of the inside address If the name of the recipient has been used in the inside address it is usual to use personal salutation. Addressing a firm, company, a board, etc use ‘Dear Sirs/Madams.’

SUBJECT • Purpose- to let the reader know immediately what the message is about. • It saves time • Type the line in a double space between the salutation and the first line of the body of the letter.

SAMPLE • To • Mr. R. K Sinha • Sales Executive • Raipur, (C.G) • Dear Sir, • Sub: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE- 24 AUGUST 2009

BODY • Main purpose is to convey a message • First paragraph, reference, to any correspondence which has already taken place should be given • Second paragraph should state main message • Closing paragraph states expectations, wishes, or intentions

CONTINUED • The paragraph should not have any heading • Participial ending should be avoided • If used it should end with ’I am,’ as- Hoping to hear from you soon, I am, Yours faithfully

COMPLIMENTARY CLOSE • Typed two space below the last line of the body of the letter • The close must agree the salutation • ‘Yours’ should be placed before sincerely, faithfully, etc. • ‘s should not be used at any cost

SIGNATURE • Placed below the complimentary close • Name is typed four space below the closing line providing enough space for signature • Routine letters of the firm may be signed by other officer by inserting ‘for’ or pp (per procurationem).

ENCLOSURE • If there is anything attached to the letter it must be indicated against the enclosure line • Typed two lines below the last line of the letter on the left hand side • The abbreviated form Encl. is used

FORMS OF LAYOUT • Standard size of paper-8 1/2 by 11, others- 8x10 inches, 5x10 inches • Margins – one inch on the sides, one and half inch on the top and bottom • Envelopes- According to the size of the paper with least folds • In window envelops address should come under window.

PUNCTUATION • Open Punctuation-No commas, no full stops in entire letter except body • Mixed punctuation- The comma is put after the date, the house number, the salutation, and the complimentary close and the full stop follows after the last line of the address

CONTINUED • Closed style – This is the conventional style • All the parts of the letter are punctuated properly Of the three styles, the mixed punctuated style is most accepted

GIST OF THE PRESENTATION • HEADING- • 1/5th of the space • DATE- • Right side, follow logical order, -nd and –th should not be used

CONTINUED • INSIDE ADDRESS • Details not to be abbreviated, take care of spellings • ATTENTION LINE • Should always be underlined

CONTINUED • BODY- • 1st para-Reference • 2nd para-main message • 3rd para- expectations, intentions • Participial ending to be avoided, if not then use ‘I am’

CONTINUED • COMPLIMENTARY CLOSE • ‘s should never be used • Signature should be above your name • PAGE • Standard size is 8 ½ by 11 • 1’’ margin on sides and 1 ½’’ at top and bottom

Anna Delvey appeared at immigration court Thursday morning sporting a custom outfit created by her OutLaw agency client, SHAO New York, for their second “fashion presentation.” She staged the first last year at her East Village apartment with her business partner, Kelly Cutrone, while on house arrest.

This time, the infamous scam artist wore a custom black oversize twill suit (complete with a scarlet letter), a high-waisted pencil skirt, a white cotton button-down shirt with built-in shoulder pads and a silk velvet pussy bow tie.

The hearing was about her $10,000 bail bond, an update on the court-ordered ban on her social media and the terms of her house arrest. Sketches for the look were provided to Page Six exclusively Wednesday and included her ankle monitor.

FERC Takes on Long-Term Planning with Historic Transmission Rule

FERC acted today to ensure the transmission grid can meet the nation’s growing demand for reliable electricity with a new rule that outlines how to plan and pay for facilities that regions of the country will need to keep the lights on and power the American economy through the 21st Century.

Today’s rule, Order No. 1920, marks the first time in more than a decade that FERC has addressed regional transmission policy – and the first time the Commission has ever squarely addressed the need for long-term transmission planning.

“Our country is facing an unprecedented surge in demand for affordable electricity while confronting extreme weather threats to the reliability of our grid and trying to stay one step ahead of the massive technological changes we are seeing in our society,” FERC Chairman Willie Phillips said. “Our nation needs a new foundation to get badly needed new transmission planned, paid for and built. With this  new rule, that starts today.”

The grid rule adopts specific requirements for transmission providers to conduct long-term planning for regional transmission facilities and determine how to pay for them. It reflects tens of thousands of pages of comments, filed over the course of the past three years, from hundreds of stakeholders representing all sectors of the electric power industry, advocacy groups and state and other government entities. 

The rule requires transmission operators to conduct and periodically update long-term transmission planning over a 20-year time horizon to anticipate future needs. It also provides for cost-effective expansion of transmission that is being replaced, when needed, known as “right-sizing” transmission facilities. And it expressly provides for the states’ pivotal role throughout the process of planning, selecting, and determining how to pay for transmission lines.

“We need to seize this moment,” Chairman Phillips said. “Over the last dozen years, FERC has worked on five after-action reports on lessons learned from extreme weather events that caused outages that cost hundreds of lives and millions of dollars. We must get beyond these after-action reports and start planning to maintain a reliable grid that powers our entire way of life. The grid cannot wait. Our communities cannot wait. Our nation cannot wait.”
