DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the School of Medicine with approximately 250 Faculty, 127 postdoctoral fellows (both MDs and PhDs) along with over 320 support staff (not including hospital staff). In addition, the Department has 68 clinical residents distributed across the Divisions. The missions of research, education and patient care are intertwined, and are integral to the goals of the department.

The Department manages a university-affiliated children's health system with the physicians and leadership of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Rady Children's Hospital, and Rady Children's Specialists of San Diego, a Medical Practice Foundation, unifying pediatric patient care, research, education and community service programs.

Under the supervision of the PI, the incumbent will support the clinical research and quality improvement efforts of the study team. Support the clinical research operation; communicate with research participants, schedule visits, assist in the handling and processing of biological samples; shipping of samples for general lab assays and data entry. May be involved in clinical and quality improvement projects that also involve recruitment, and ensuring performance of protocols according to schedule, including data entry and reporting on data results back to participants. Incumbent will assist in the day-to-day operation of the research team. Responsible for assisting with and ensuring the quality of data collected, maintaining databases, ensuring adequate lab supplies for the function of the lab. Under supervision maintain a sample flowchart of active clinical studies and or quality improvement projects and how participants flow through these project protocols as well as monitoring study/project samples/data collections. Will assist clinical team with participant home study visits to collect questionnaire data and clinical specimens. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory or field experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience in processing and shipping laboratory specimens-ambient and frozen. Demonstrated experience with guidelines of biohazardous handling. Knowledge and strict utilization of universal precautions when handling laboratory specimens.

Experience managing biological samples, storage, and inventory.

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Proven effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritize workload and work independently.

Ability to maintain and protect confidentiality of participant information.

Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to propose alternative strategies to resolve issues.

Must be IATA-certified to process and ship human specimens.

Certified in hazardous materials handling.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and Clinical Research experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $40,340 - $46,771 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $19.32 - $22.40

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Responsibilities*

  • Assist with routine/standard pre-award functions (e.g., development of proposals, budgets, and compilation of applications) 
  • Assist with routine/standard post-award functions (e.g., reconciliation, monitoring terms and conditions, establishment of subprojects and/or subcontracts, forecasting, and reporting)
  • Review basic sponsor guidelines, interpret solicitation requirements, and follow established sponsor-specific financial regulations 
  • Establish and network with academic departments and research centers
  • Provide accounting support (e.g., journal entries, vouchers, non-po's, and researching transactions for compliance) 
  • Ensure departmental, school, university, and sponsor compliance with applicable policies, instructions, and guidelines
  • Assist departmental faculty and personnel interpreting the aforementioned policies, instructions, guidelines, and seeking clarification as appropriate
  • Review and approve standard transactions with a predetermined threshold
  • Special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications*

Depending on your own experiences and qualifications the following describes the expected Responsibilities for the Research Administration Assistant and Research Administration Associate .  We'll work together to find the title that is best-fit for you and also aligns with our unit's needs.  Here are the qualifications for each title:

Assistant Level:

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Intermediate in the following: word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Knowledge of enterprise-wide administrative systems

Associate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Intermediate word processing, advanced spreadsheet, and intermediate presentation software
  • Familiarity of enterprise-wide administrative systems

Both Assistant and Associate Level:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions while working with a very diverse group of colleagues, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to create basic reports, documents, presentations, and spreadsheets using standard software
  • Math skills including simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment, collaborate effectively with co-workers, and provide excellent customer service
  • Attention to detail and dependability
  • Ability to interpret and apply internal guidelines and policies
  • Experience making sound, independent judgments; ability to balance competing priorities, and effectively utilize time management

Work Locations

The College of Engineering, Resource Planning & Management Office operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. After initial onsite training/onboarding, this position will be classified as a FLEX position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus on average 2-3 days per week and working remotely the rest of the week. Additional Information

The salary range for this position is as follows:

  • Associate - $54,000 - $60,000

Research assistant.

We are seeking two full time Research Assistants to assist with data collection for a study aimed to understand the behavioral and interpersonal factors that contribute to HIV risk among people who inject drugs (PWID) in Cabell County, West Virginia. The study aims to recruit and follow a cohort of PWID for 18 months and develop and implement a risk reduction intervention. Follow-up interviews will occur every 3 months for the duration of the 18-month study period. The primary role of the Research Assistant is to support participant recruitment, data collection, and assist with participant follow-ups. The incumbent must be able to work in-person in Huntington, WV.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Research Program Coordinator and investigative team with writing a manual of procedures outlining established protocols for data collection and management.
  • Recruiting and interviewing participants about their health behaviors.
  • Data Entry.
  • Conducting oral HIV rapid testing and referring participants to related services at the health department as applicable. Training for administering HIV tests will be provided.
  • Supply ordering and inventory.
  • Conduct community outreach and recruitment activities to enroll participants in the cohort.
  • Run standard analyses and produce ad hoc reports related to study recruitment and retention.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
