Essay on My Pet in 150 words

I have a pet dog and his name is Chandler. He is named after my favourite “ Friends ” character and has been with us for the last nine months. His colour is golden and his tail is bushy as he is a golden retriever. Chandler is very energetic and likes to play a lot with all of us. He runs extremely fast when chasing cats. He is very playful. We take good care of his diet. I give him foods like eggs, meat, fish, bread, rice, etc. Whenever I return from school, he wags his tail in joy and jumps and hops all around me as if celebrating. Chandler knows everybody in our family and whenever he sees a new person, he barks at them, but he is sweet and does not bite anyone. He is very intelligent as well and gives us handshakes with his paws. He understands whatever we tell, and on command, he sits and rolls over too. He is an essential part of our family and we all love him very much.

Essay on My Pet in 250 words

My pet dog is a Golden Retriever and his name is Cheddar. He is named after a dog seen on the famous sitcom “Brooklyn 99”. Cheddar is a very energetic and playful dog. He likes to go on walks a lot and play with frisbees and balls. My dad brought him home a year ago. Although I somewhat wanted a cat, now I love him the most. Bella, my sister is crazy about dogs, she wanted a dog since time immemorial. At first, our mother was sceptical about getting a pet, but now Cheddar is her favourite. She treats him just like the way she treats us.

My sister is particular about his timely vaccinations, eating habits, cleanliness, etc. She bathes him twice a week and every evening, we take him out for a stroll in the neighbourhood as well as the park. As mentioned before, Cheddar is quite active. Hence, we play with him in the park a lot. We throw a ball or a frisbee and play a game of fetch with him. He likes to roll in the leaves and it is fun to watch him do so. Along with being active, Cheddar is smart as well. At home, when his food is served, as long as we don’t say the word “go” he patiently waits. On command, he jumps and shakes hands with us using his paw. When told, he can roll over too. He amuses us with his daily fetching of random things like slippers, or one of his toys. We love him with all our heart and he has become an essential member of our family.

Essay on My Pet in 300 words

My pet’s name is Mario. He is a two-year-old German Shepherd. I was in 6th grade when my father brought Mario home when he was just 45 days old. His cute little face was so fluffy I could just hug and kiss him all day. I bought a soccer ball, with which he and I used to play all day long. Being in school, I used to think about what is he doing right now or today I’ll take him for a walk to the park, where we will play soccer, etc.

His unconditional love has always been there as a stress reliever. His loyalty, unwavering support and companionship have been with me in my good and bad times. Now that he is an adult, I have taken all his responsibilities like feeding him, bathing him, taking him for walks, etc.

Mario once fell ill due to a cold, and whatever he was eating, he was not able to digest it. I got s worried that I took him to the vet, where he was given a penicillin shot as an antibiotic treatment. I was so scared that I held him with my hands and he was lying there, unconscious. Two hours later, he gained his consciousness and started licking my face. All my sorrow and sadness vanished away in a second, seeing his beautiful eyes and fluffy tail wavering all over the table.

Now that he is completely healthy, I take him for his walks every day, where he is always filled with excitement to explore the other world. As a loyal friend, my dog, Mario, has never demanded anything except for 3 times of meals and a walk. Whether it’s a game of fetch in the backyard or a stroll in the park, every shared moment is a treasure that adds richness to my life.

Both cats and dogs make wonderful pets, each offering unique qualities that appeal to different people. Cats are generally more independent animals. Dogs are social animals that thrive on companionship. They usually need more attention, exercise, and social interaction.

Dogs are known as the best friends of humans because they bring loyalty, joyous moments, unconditional love and life-teaching lessons. Some of the best dog breeds for domestication are German Shepherd, Siberian Huskey, Golden Retriever, Labrador, Beagle and Boxer.

Best Tips On How To Write An Essay On My Pet For Classes 1, 2 & 3

Shaili Contractor

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Pet’ for Class 1, 2 and 3 Children

Few lines on ‘my pet’ for children, short essay on ‘my pet’ for kids, long essay on ‘my pet’ for kids in english, what will your child learn by writing an essay on pets.

Growing up with a pet is the most wonderful experience. Having a constant buddy around to play with, children are most excited about having a pet at home. In fact, it is often the children who plead with their parents to adopt and bring home a pet. The pets, too, form a close sibling-like bond with the children of the house. So when it comes to writing about their pets, children will have several ideas to pen down. Let’s help them organise their thoughts and feelings and write an essay that will be engaging for the reader. Most children will be confident about this topic but may need a structure to help them articulate their ideas. There may also be some children who don’t have pets of their own and may have to write this essay from their imagination. These tips will help children write a few lines, small compositions and long essays on the topic of ‘My Pet’.

Children who have a pet may be full of ideas in their minds. But those who don’t have a pet at home will have to write based on their experience with someone who has pets, maybe a friend or a relative. When guiding a child on how to write an essay on pets, there are a few things you can ask them to incorporate in the write-up. Here are some key points that could help them write an impressive essay:

  • Start with an introduction about how animals are important to humankind.
  • Progress to the next step by stressing how bringing home a pet can be a different experience and contribute to one’s well-being.
  • Go on to describe which animal would be ideal to have as a pet.
  • Describe the qualities of the animal and how they came into your life.
  • Elaborate on the pet – name, behaviour and qualities.
  • Mention how you look after them and care for them.
  • Speak about how you spend time with the pet and the facilities you have made for the pet to feel safe at your home.
  • Speak about how popular the pet is in the neighbourhood.
  • Write about who the pet is closest to.
  • Conclude by stressing the importance of the pet’s presence at home and how it completes the family.

A short essay on ‘My Pet’ for a first-grader would entail writing a few descriptive lines about the pet. Here’s is an example of how to help your child write a few lines on the topic:

  • The pet I have is a dog, a man’s best friend.
  • We call him ‘Rafa’.
  • Rafa is a Labrador and white in colour and has a bushy tail with a black tip.
  • He eats pet food that we buy especially for him from the supermarket.
  • We have trained him to perform some actions like “Sit”, “Fetch the Ball,” and “Shake hands.”
  • We have a small kennel for him where he rests during the day when we are all away at school.
  • Once we come back home, we take him for a walk around our apartment complex.
  • He is the star of the apartment as everyone loves him. He is also playful with them.
  • Rafa is also our watchdog as he keeps a close eye on strangers who enter the apartment.
  • My dog is a part of my family, and we love him very much.

Students of class 2 are expected to display a higher level of writing proficiency. By now, children are familiar with linguistic aspects of English like grammar, punctuations and spelling. When asked to write about their pet, they would be required to compose a paragraph on the topic that would carry more weightage in terms of marks or points awarded. Here is a sample of an essay on ‘My Pet’ for Class-2 students:

A pet is like a family member. Having a pet is more like looking after a child, but pets cannot speak. If you shower them with love and affection, they will be most affectionate and loyal to you. My family and I always wanted a pet, so we got a cat. We call him ‘Tom’. Black and white in colour, Tom has a long tail that he curls when he’s hungry or wants us to cuddle him. We feed him pet food from a small bowl that we got for him. We take him for walks around our small bungalow, during which he loves climbing on our walls. Tom loves chasing mice and is scared of the dogs around our house. We love spending time with Tom, and he loves us too.

Children in the third grade will generally be expected to write a long essay on their pets. This might sound challenging but let’s make it simple for them. Guide them to split the topic into various points and then elucidate their thoughts to compose a long paragraph. Here’s a guide that will help your child write a long essay on ‘My Pet’.

Dogs are a man’s best friend. It is indeed true as dogs are the most loyal and friendly animals. My parents also love dogs. They both have had dogs as pets when they grew up. So, when we moved into our new home, the first thing that we did after setting up the house was to go and get a puppy.

We reached the animal rescue centre, and our eyes fell on a little puppy who was just two weeks old. It was a Golden Retriever, and we got him home immediately. We named him Marco and set up a kennel for his home. We placed him there and looked after him for the next few weeks till he became comfortable. Once he started moving and jumping around, he followed us just like every other puppy. He would wag his tail if he wanted to go out or just jump on us if he wanted to fall asleep.

Every night my father takes him out for a walk. Marco enjoys this time with my father and eagerly looks forward to it. Just when I am going to be back from school, Marco waits behind the door for me. As I enter, he jumps all over me to welcome me home. He gives my mother a cuddle when he finds her relaxing on the chair when she is tired. Marco is a part of our family, and we love him very much. He has made us better human beings by showing his affection through actions and words.

Writing an essay on ‘My Pet’ will help children understand how to express their thoughts about a pet and write in a manner that will make an impact. Expression, writing creatively, and structuring are the most important takeaways from this essay. Children will also get a deeper understanding of caring for animals. The ones who don’t have a pet at home will be encouraged to think creatively and write based on their observations and imagination.

Encourage your child to follow these tips and read through these essays before writing their own essay on their pet. This beginner’s guide will help children channelise their ideas and ace the skill of essay writing. Children will learn the depth and nuances of creative writing, which will help them not just in the English subject but other subjects too.

My Pet Essay

500 words essay on my pet.

Pets are a blessing that only lucky people get to have. I have been lucky enough to have many pets since my childhood. My pet is a cat whom we call Mingi. It is white and grey in colour. Mingi is 3 years old and has been with me ever since she was born. Through my pet essay, I will make you learn all about Mingi and why it is so dear to me.

my pet essay

How Mingi Became My Pet Essay

Mingi has short hair and also a glossy coat. It is a female and love to have milk and chicken. Sometimes, I treat it with fish as it loves the taste of tuna. Moreover, Mingi is a very loving pet that stays with me at all times.

Ever since I was little, I liked cats. I love how clean and majestic they are. Although, there were no plans to keep a pet cat. My mother did not allow me as she would end up doing all the work for the pet.

However, she used to keep a bowl of fresh water in our garden to ensure no birds or animals remain thirsty during the summer season. A lot of pigeons and sparrows come to my garden to quench their thirst.

One fine day, a cat came to drink the water. It started coming regularly afterwards and gave birth to kittens in our garden. My mother gave them food as well and some milk every day.

However, one day all of them were gone except for a little kitten. I started to feed it regularly and became close to it. As the mother did not return, I decided to keep it as my pet.

After taking permission from my mother, I finally got to keep Mingi by promising to bear its responsibility. Ever since Mingi has been in my life. It was so little but now has grown into a big and beautiful cat.

A Clean Pet

Cats are one of the cleanest pets that do not require a lot of effort to maintain. I hardly have to worry about Mingi being dirty as it cleans itself regularly. I conduct a bathing session every month with my mother.

It is not easy but Mingi is now used to it. We also comb Mingi’s coat twice a week so no dead hair remains and her hygiene is intact. Moreover, it may sound rare but we also brush Mingi’s teeth every week.

During winters , Mingi gets cold so we have got her a warm coat to protect her from the cold. Mingi remains indoors mostly and never dirties our house. Ever since it was little, she knew where to relieve herself so she’s always been low maintenance and love.

Conclusion Of My Pet Essay

All in all, Mingi has been a blessing that happened by chance. However, she is now an inseparable part of my life. I love spending time with her and she manages to make my saddest days happier.

Essay on My Pet Dog for Students

Essay writing is a crucial part of language studies. Not just that, it is also a mandatory question in the school exam. Essay writing is included in the exam to check students’ imagination and how well they can weave their thoughts into words. It also evaluates someone’s understanding of language and grammar. Many people love to have dogs as their pets as they are friendly, loyal and a great stress reliever. Students can get a free essay on My Pet Dog at Vedantu’s site.

An Introduction On My Pet Dog

The relationship between humans and dogs can’t be expressed in words. Dogs are loyal and friendly and their love is unconditional. Make friends with dogs and you will never feel lonely. A dog is a domestic animal. Dogs are harmless unless someone attacks them.

On the way back from school, I found a helpless hungry puppy lying on the roadside. I brought it home. It was obvious, my mother burst with anger on seeing this. But with time, my mother accepted him and allowed him to stay with us. He has sparkles in his eyes which attracted us. My sister called him Sheru and that’s how he got a new name. Sheru does not demand much but good food, frequent conversation, exercise and a little fun activity.

Sheru is a member of our family. He loves to play and jumps all around the house. Everyone in the family loves him dearly as he is a stress buster for us. He is loyal and is a protractor of our family. There are a lot of lessons for why everyone must have dogs at home. Life becomes easy when you have an anytime available mate like them. They provide sympathy in our bad times, behave like a bodyguard in times of crises and a loving sibling at the time when we are lonely.

Long Essay on Pet Dogs

Around the world, people keep various animals as their pets. Some are fond of cats, while others prefer fish aquariums, some love to play with cows in the cattle field. But by far, the most adored animal on the planet is a dog. It is called a man’s best friend for the same reason. The loyalty of a dog is unmatched and unbeatable. The best instinct in dogs is to protect their owner. In a world that is constantly changing and there is a rush in every aspect of life, pets provide a sense of security and peace for their owners. When the owner returns home, he/she finds a dog waiting and jumps towards them with a sense of joy and excitement. Dogs are an excellent company. A loyal confidante and undeniably cute. There are various instances in which dogs have shown their bravery, saved the lives of their owners. Some dogs, even though they aren't physically savage, still manage to rescue their owners from danger. The dogs can sense something wrong before it even happens. Animals are gifted with a sixth sense.

For introverted people, dogs tend to be the perfect companions. The company of a dog is what a person needs when he/she is sad or upset. Dogs provide love and support, and they accurately detect when their owner is sad or crying.

Studies have shown that being in company with a dog can result in less anxiety. For someone battling with anxiety disorder, I can vouch for it, that dogs are the greatest stress busters, and sometimes even replace therapy sessions. A long walk with a dog can do the trick.

Types of Dogs

Dogs come in a variety of breeds. The most famous dog breeds are Labrador retrievers, bulldogs, german shepherds and pugs.

Although all the dogs are extremely friendly, nothing can beat a labrador when it comes to friendliness. They are loving and understand when their owner is upset or happy. The German shepherds, Dobermann and the bulldogs are quite protective, they serve well if the owner is living alone. The smaller breeds like pug and chihuahua are cute and are not that hard to tame. Pomeranians with their long hair are a little hard to maintain, but still can be done.

In a real-life incident that happened in 2013, a mountain dog called Bella saved her owner out of a burning house. That's how protective and caring the dogs are.

The reason dogs are so protective when it comes to their owners is that they consider them a family. But for a dog to act right when it's being protective it needs to be trained. Most dogs act aggressively when they are protective.

Short Essay On My Pet Dog

Owning a dog is also a huge responsibility and commitment. Owning a dog means taking care of it like a family member. It is like having a younger sibling or a small child in the home that constantly needs care and attention.

Before owning a pet, one also needs to know how to train a dog as it is quite important.

The dogs also need timely health checkups and they need to be taken to the vet constantly. The diet should also be taken care of since most dogs are allergic to some things.

How Do Dogs Positively Affect Human Health?

Research has shown that, in the company of dogs, humans are more cheerful and happy. It is also known to reduce anxiety in humans as well as lower blood pressure. In severe cases, being in the company of dogs has cured depression and other mental health issues.

Health Around Dogs

Any scratches or bites from dogs can be painful and may even be infectious, especially when dogs don't feel safe around something or are scared. The dog injuries can be prevented by training them and also taking a handful of precautions. Regular visits to the vet clinic can be helpful to keep any dog's infections or mites on the bay.

When petting the dog make sure the hands are washed before and after. This will reduce the risk of infections if any.

The dogs also need hygienic surroundings. The food supplies and the dog utensils should be kept clean.

It is a human need to be loved and appreciated, and dogs do that pretty well. With the company of a dog, a human can seldom feel alone. Humans are more likely to recover from illnesses when they are in the company of a dog. The interesting fact is that owning a dog will increase one's physical activity and well-being, as you need to consistently take them out for a walk outdoors, it is a win-win for both the owner and the dog.

For example, a new puppy will need to be taken to the vet for vaccinations and check-ups. It will also need to be trained on things like potty training, manners, and obedience. An older dog may need special care if it has arthritis or other health problems.

Cats need routine vet check-ups and vaccinations as well. They also require regular grooming, which can be done at home with a brush designed specifically for cats. In addition, cats should have a litter box that is cleaned out regularly.

Other pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, and mice also require routine vet check-ups and vaccinations. They should have a clean cage with fresh food and water daily. These small animals also like to play so offering them some toys is a good idea too.

No matter what type of pet you have, there are some general things to keep in mind such as feeding them nutritious food, providing them with fresh water, exercising them regularly (if possible), and keeping their living area clean. By following these tips, you can help your pet live a long and healthy life .

Having a pet is a great joy but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. Taking care of your pet requires commitment, patience, and knowledge about the health needs for your specific animal. With the right amount of care, you can ensure your pet has a long and happy life.

I hope this essay has given you a better insight into my pet and what it means to me. Having a pet can bring joy and companionship, but more importantly, unconditional love. Not only do I get to experience the pleasure of owning something that loves me unconditionally, but I also have an animal companion who gives me support regardless of any obstacles we face together. My pet is not just another four-legged member in our family but rather my best friend for life.

Essay on My Pet | 500+ Words

Pets are not just animals; they are cherished members of our families, bringing joy, love, and companionship into our lives. In this essay, I will argue that having a pet has numerous benefits and can positively impact our physical and emotional well-being. My pet, in particular, has been a source of comfort and happiness in my life.

Companionship and Emotional Support

One of the most significant benefits of having a pet is the companionship and emotional support they provide. According to a study conducted by the American Psychological Association, interacting with pets can reduce stress and anxiety. My pet, a loyal and loving dog named Max, is always there to comfort me when I’m feeling down. His presence alone brings a smile to my face and eases my worries.

Physical Activity and Health

Owning a pet encourages physical activity and a healthier lifestyle. Taking care of my pet requires regular walks and playtime, which keeps me active and fit. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that pet owners are more likely to meet daily exercise recommendations, leading to improved physical health. Thanks to Max, I enjoy the outdoors and stay active throughout the year.

Responsibility and Routine

Caring for a pet teaches responsibility and the importance of a daily routine. Feeding, grooming, and providing for my pet’s needs require commitment and consistency. Studies have shown that children who grow up with pets develop a strong sense of responsibility. My pet has taught me valuable life skills, such as time management and empathy.

Social Connection

Pets can also enhance our social lives. When I take Max for walks or to the park, I often meet other pet owners and strike up conversations. Research by the University of Western Australia indicates that having a pet can increase social interactions and help combat feelings of loneliness. My pet has introduced me to new friends and created opportunities for meaningful connections.

Stress Reduction

Stress is a common part of life, but pets have a remarkable ability to reduce stress levels. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), interacting with pets can lower cortisol, a stress hormone, and release oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and relaxation. Whenever I pet Max or play with him, I can feel my stress melting away, and I become calmer and more content.

Unconditional Love

Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of having a pet is the unconditional love they offer. Regardless of our flaws or mistakes, our pets love us wholeheartedly. Research published in the journal “Psychosomatic Medicine” suggests that the bond between humans and their pets can boost emotional well-being and even extend our lifespan. Max’s unwavering love has been a constant source of comfort and happiness in my life.

Mental and Emotional Health

Pets play a vital role in promoting mental and emotional health. They can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that pets can provide emotional support and improve overall well-being. Max has been my confidant during challenging times, offering a listening ear and a comforting presence when I needed them most.

Conclusion of Essay on My Pet

In conclusion, my pet has brought immeasurable joy, comfort, and love into my life. The evidence supports the idea that owning a pet is not just a responsibility but also a privilege that can positively impact our physical and emotional well-being. From companionship and emotional support to physical activity and stress reduction, the benefits of having a pet are far-reaching.

Through my experiences with Max, I have learned valuable life lessons about responsibility, routine, and the importance of caring for others. My pet has also introduced me to new friends and strengthened my social connections. Most importantly, Max’s unconditional love has been a source of unwavering support, contributing to my mental and emotional health.

In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, the presence of a beloved pet can bring solace, happiness, and a sense of purpose. My pet, Max, has enriched my life in countless ways, and I am grateful for the wonderful companionship he provides. In the grand tapestry of life, pets like Max hold a special place, offering us a profound and enduring bond that brings warmth and meaning to our existence.

My Pet Dog Essay

Pets are the closest thing to humans. Humans can choose their pets based on their environment, their level of affection, and their busy life schedule. Pets that are commonly kept include dogs, cats, and birds. Here are a few sample essays on the topic ‘My Pet Dog’.

  • 100 Words Essay On My Pet Dog

Dogs are the best choice as a pet because they understand their owners very well and support them in whatever condition they are in. I decided to get a dog as a pet after realising my affection for both street dogs and other people's pet dogs. Dogs are regarded as a person's best friend. I was not sure which dog breed to choose, but in the end, I decided on the Pomeranian breed. I went to a pet store to check out the different coloured Pomeranian dogs. I was highly confused but at the end chose an adorable brown coloured Pomeranian. I named him 'Benji', he was only a month old when I took him home.

My Pet Dog Essay

Dogs are the only animals who love their owners without any reason. They start trusting their owners completely. On the day when my mother and I were going to purchase my pet dog, I was overcome with excitement. We both have the same love of animals, so I was sure she would be confused once she entered the pet store. She questioned me after entering the store as to why I wanted a dog only as a pet rather than a cat or bird, and I told her that I have a special affection for dogs.

Benefits | Dogs can help their owners with their mental health issues, can teach us new skills, can act as living examples of what their owners have taught them, and, most importantly, need regular exercise, which also helps us to maintain good cardiovascular health.

We discussed which dog to buy for the complete two hours before deciding on a white Persian dog with large black eyes and a short tail. I was staring at my new pet the entire time I was returning home and I named him Pluto. Finally, we ended up happily having a handsome dog that improved our health and mood and we love him dearly.

New Member Of Our Family

I decided, along with my mother, to purchase a puppy from a pet store on December 10, 2022. We went in the evening to finalise the puppy after she gave her permission. At the pet store's corner, I noticed a stunning white pomeranian sitting quietly and observing us. He was sitting with his gorgeous fluffy tail moving from left to right. We looked at many dogs, but this one grabbed my attention. I asked the shop owner if I could hold him in my hands, and he agreed. The dog was so kind that he began to play with me and lick me. After choosing to take him home with me, we proceed to buy his food, treats, leashes, toys, and shampoo.

My dog, Shero, accompanied me around the entire store. He seemed genuinely happy to be with me, which thrilled me. I had some concerns about whether he would be comfortable in the car and whether he would become anxious while driving, but nothing of the sort occurred. Instead, he reacted exactly the opposite of what I imagined. He sat next to me in the car the entire time we were travelling home and was enjoying the scenery. I got the feeling that he perhaps thought that he could now enjoy his life in the outside world.

First Experience At Home

After returning home, he initially felt some fear of unfamiliar objects, smells, and environment, but with time he got attached to everything. He was jumping on the bed, the couch, and playing with the toys we had bought for him. After some time, he began to bark, and as it was my first day with him, I was unaware that he did this when he was hungry. After finishing his meal, he slept for two to three hours. My family and I talked about his trainer while he was asleep so that he might learn new tasks that would make him stronger and more active, both of which are excellent for his health. I was staring at him while he slept and wondering how the atmosphere in the house had changed. The atmosphere in the home was now cheerful, joyful, and entertaining. He is now a member of our family.

Essay on My Pet Dog for Students and Children in 1000+ Words

Animals have a major role to play in balancing an environment . Apart from that, in certain respects, they are useful to humans. People love to have a lot of animals in their homes. Among them, the dog really is an animal that you can see “my pet” as a companion in many homes.

Pets are an immense gift to anyone’s life. They’re the only people that love us unconditionally. Pets still give us everything they have without waiting for much in exchange—the primary aim of every pet’s life to make their owners pleased.

Even the word ‘owner’ is growing today. People prefer their dogs to be children and be their guardians. This is how the bond with pets is increasing. People should not treat them worse than people. E.g., they’re celebrating their birthdays, have the matching outfits, and much more.

The canine has been a human partner since prehistoric days, so we find these dogs worldwide. There are hundreds of these breeds. However, every variation has one common factor, honesty , and fidelity to the lord.

My favorite pet dog

I believe that pets deserve it. Dogs are the most popular pet you can see in anyone’s location—the greatest friend of man and the most loyal animal, the canine. I love bits whenever it happens to my pet.

We got him once he was a kid, or we saw him develop into a big dog. Both my members of the family love them from all their souls. We love his dumb shenanigans, and without him, we can’t picture our lives. Well, we call him Bruno.

My family likes dogs very much. There are only a few dogs with various types in my neighborhood. Still, Bruno is the name of my favorite dog amongst all these breeds.

I chose him, along with his few distinctive attributes. Bruno refers to a popular dog breed named Labrador retriever. Bruno is a full-bodied chocolate-colored body with such a black border across the neck.

Bruno is my pet dog, and he is faithful , genuine, and very devoted to his owner. Bruno is quick to train.

In quite a short time, he learned to dive, comprehend, and follow my orders. He takes up my orders easily and executes them immediately. Bruno is a very healthy dog, guy.

My dad adopted Bruno while he was a child. His friend had given birth to pets, and they wanted to put the pups available for adoption. We’ve persuaded our dad to buy one for us.

Considering that they knew our families well, they readily decided. Little did we realize that after his arrival, our lives would forever change.

Bruno came in as a gift to our family. Belonging to a Labrador breed, he is black, and pure black tar. He became my companion as a puppy with his adorable little paws and eyes. We haven’t been able to stop gushing about this charm. My brothers and sisters used to compete with one another to have the most opportunity to enjoy with Bruno.

When my pet Bruno grew up, he learned a lot of tricks. We taught him to follow our orders, and he really knew two tricks. We enjoyed introducing him to friends and family in our community. I’ve always taken Bruno out with me since he loves to take a stroll on the lane.

Besides, my brothers and I have taken on the task of keeping Bruno tidy. We took turns each week to bathe him or clean him neatly. I recall getting a bow for him out of my pocket money. Bruno liked it, and he wagged his tail in happiness . Bruno has been here thru thick or thin, and we’ll be forever grateful to him for his dedication.

At midnight, the fire broke out during our home. He saw the risk that we were in. My pet dragged my quilt aside and kept me awake. He took me to a kitchen. To my utter surprise, I noticed that a heap with dry fuel was lying there, and then all the fire climbed to the roof, or at once, and the other house members climbed from sleep. They kept the fire under control in the next few minutes. This action of Bruno cherished us all the more.

I’m taking excellent care of him, and every day I bathe him with soap. I feed him with milk and wheat. Occasionally, I even give bones and skin. It is regarded as a family member. Any member of a household is respected and valued. Visitors who visited the house enjoy it, too.

Several proposals were made for me, but I’m not going to be aware of it at any time. Separation is now out of the question, as he reacts to my affection. He’s still by my side, and his faithfulness is unquestionable. My pet is really loyal to me.

My Pet Changed my Life

We did not realize what we’d learn until we got a pet dog. He changed things forever since Bruno came through our lives. Bruno has shifted the definition of allegiance to us. We have heard how this loyal companion has always served for our comfort and wellbeing.

Certainly, Bruno has made us stronger human beings. We are much more humane for animals today. There was one incident where the stray dogs will hurt a kitten, or to our delight, Bruno rescued the little kitten or took her home.

In many other words, we learned many things from my pet. He was shielding us while we sleep at night. He was trying to cheer us up if any of us was down. Bruno’s obedience has encouraged me a lot and is kind to my family. So, all the praise for improving our life goes to Bruno.

10 line on My Pet

  • The name of my pet dog is Bruno. That’s from the German Shepherds’ group.
  • He’s two years old, fluffy, black, and tan.
  • He’s going to be happy to see me once I come back from training.
  • It prevents our houses from intruders, particularly during the nights.
  • He spends much of his time with my dad or me.
  • He’s very patient with us, but he’s highly violent when he spots an outsider.
  • He’s going with my dad for morning hikes, and with me for evening hikes.
  • We’re feeding him with nutritious food, new milk, and poultry.
  • He likes to move, hop, and run. He’s been swamped all the time.
  • 10. When I get angry, my pet perks me up by kissing me and showering a lot of affection. I do enjoy him too much.

Pets are also a member of the house. They give the owners genuine affection. In reality, the word “keeper” is fading some days. People imagine their dogs to be their offspring and their own guardians. This is how the relationship with dogs has grown over the years. From honoring their special days to dressing them up in quirky clothing, we treat pets like children.

And all of them have held dogs as the companion of animals for some point in time. Dogs are the safest pet creatures you can hold. They are obedient to their owner & even supportive in their everyday tasks.

The obedience that a dog displays to its owner is the best lesson human beings can gain from them. They are the companions of men who are always true to them and in their good or poor days. Further, all they have to is a little piece of bread as well as a lot of affection.

My pet essay is an essential children’s essay subject. Essay composition is a talent that young people are increasingly cultivating by practice. It helps to develop a sound comprehension of the language and strengthens students’ writing skills. Hope you liked this essay on my pet.

My Pet Dog Essay – 200 words

My pet dog is a pug. It is fawn in colour and has a small built. We have named it Swigi. It has been with us since the last 2 years. I still remember the day me and my sister went to the pet shop with my father to bring it home. I somehow wanted to pet a cat but my elder sister, Riya is almost crazy about dogs and was adamant that we get a dog as a pet. Other members of my family also believed that keeping a dog as a pet was a better choice and so a cute little one month old pug came home with us that day and became a part of our family.

Though everyone in the family takes care of Swigi, my sister is especially particular about its cleanliness, vaccinations and eating habits. We make Swigi bath twice a week. It is actually my favourite time of the week. We take it to the terrace and bathe him with a pipe. We make sure it gets its food on time and goes for stroll twice every day. Swigi also accompanies us everywhere we go.

Swigi is quite an active dog and loves playing with ball. It is super fun playing with it.

My Pet Dog Essay – 300 words

My pet dog, Barney is a Labrador. It is light brown in colour and has a strong built. Having a Labrador as a pet serves a double purpose. You do not only get a great friend who is always ready to play with you but it also acts as a security guard for your home. Our home is a more secure place because of the presence of Barney.

Participation in Dog Show

Many people bring home pets and forget about them. We aren’t among those. We take good care of Barney and always love involving it in different activities. It has been with us since the last 5 years and we have made it participate in three dog shows since then. We got it trained for these shows and it made us proud by winning prizes in all these events. At the time of the first event, Barney was just 10 months old. It was hyper active and won the hurdle race. During the second event, it was 2 years old won the bird hunt game. In the third event, it again participated in a race and came third. Barney was 4 years old then.

My Pet Dog is Very Vigilant

Barney remains vigilant all the time. It barks at the sound of any hustle near the home especially at night. It has a strong smelling sense and grows suspicious if it experiences any strange or unfamiliar smell. Dogs are extremely faithful and want nothing but the best for their masters. Barney is no exception. It is very protective about our family and thus guards our house at all times.

I love spending time with Barney. It makes me forget all my tensions and worries. It stands near the front door waiting for me when it is time for me to come home from school and wags its tail as soon as it sees me. We are both extremely delighted to see each other.

My Pet Dog Essay – 400 words

I have an adorable Dachshund as my pet. It is an extremely lively dog and always keeps us on toes whenever we are out to play with it. We have named it Buddy and it indeed is our best Buddy. Dachshunds are very friendly and cheerful. Buddy has gelled along extremely well with our family and loves all of us dearly. We also love it with all our heart.

My Pet Dog’s Features

With their long and low bodies, Dachshunds look quite different from the other breeds of dogs. Here is how my Buddy looks like and behaves:

  • Buddy is chocolate brown in colour and is long haired.
  • It is a miniature sized Dachshund.
  • It has a very strong smelling power.
  • It has a very pleasant and friendly disposition. It befriends all our friends, neighbours and relatives who come home and is eager to play with them.
  • It is also very brave and clever. It always remains cautious about who roams around in the street next to our house and barks at any suspicious or unfamiliar person around.
  • It is also very curious about things.
  • It is Fun Playing with Buddy

Dachshunds are hyper active and always keen on playing different games. Buddy particularly loves playing with the ball. So every evening we take it out for around half an hour and indulge him in this activity. It is not only fun for Buddy but an extremely amazing experience for me and my brother too.

Buddy also loves travelling. We often go for weekend outings and Buddy is always super excited to go along with us. Since it is small in size, it is not a hassle to take it along. It does not even require much food which makes it quite travel-friendly.

It has been a year that we have brought him home and our friends and cousins have started visiting us all the more since then. A cheerful soul that it is, everyone is fond of it and wants to spend time with it.

We mostly keep it tied with a chain when it is home. My mother particularly makes it a point that Buddy is tied with its chain near the balcony. This is because the moment we untie it, it runs around the house breaking every single thing that comes its way.

Pet dogs are fun to be around and especially if it is a Dachshund, you can never get bored. Each day seems exciting and fun in its company. Buddy is the lifeline of our family.

My Pet Dog Essay – 500 words

When I was young, we had a Doberman as a pet. It became a part of my family even before I was born. So, I knew him from the time I was born. Doberman have a strong sixth sense and always remain vigilant. However, you can see their soft side when they are in the company of little kids and I have experienced this side of my pet Doberman whom we lovingly called, Bruno.

Why My Parents Decided to Pet a Dog?

My parents shifted to Goa soon after their marriage. They found a house on rent. It was a beautiful house that was well-suited for a family of two. However, the only problem was that the house stood aloof. It was at a distance from the other houses in the vicinity. In order to ensure the safety and security of my mother as my father went to the office, it was decided to bring home a pet dog. They decided to go for a Doberman as it is a fearless, brave and sturdy dog. Owing to this nature, Doberman dogs are also preferred in police and military services all around the world.

My mother was already fond of dogs and Bruno became her best friend in the new city. Since, Doberman require exercise every day, she took it for walk twice every day. My dad also enjoyed its company. Bruno grew extremely fond of me as soon as I was born and guarded me all the time. It also played with me.

Why We Had to Give Away Our Doberman?

I was extremely attached to Bruno and so was my mother. However, we had to give it away as my father got a good job opportunity in the United States and we had to shift there for two years. With heavy heart, we gave him to one of our neighbours who gladly took it home. We often called them up to ask for Bruno’s well being.

How I Found An Indian Spitz?

We shifted back to India after two years however, this time to a different city. I wanted to keep a pet dog again but my mother was not keen on it. However, it seemed like God heard my wish and fulfilled it.

One day when I was walking back home from school, I saw a Spitz struggling to get its leg out of a cycle tyre. I immediately went to help it. It was someone’s pet but seemed like it had lost its way. I helped it get rid of the tyre and gave a pat on its head. Spitzs are known to be quite affectionate. It began licking my arm. I looked around for its master but could not find anyone. As I began walking home, it started following me. I kept taking it back to the place I had found it for weeks in the hope to find its master but did not find anyone. Since then, it stays with us. I have named it Jiggles.

Dogs are very loving and caring. They shower love and are faithful to their masters. It is an amazing feeling to have a dog as a pet.

My Pet Dog Essay – 600 words

I have a pet dog named Roger. It is a German shepherd and it has been a part of my family since the last 3 years. It is very warm, friendly and playful. However, outsiders often find it dangerous. This is because of its built and colour. It is vigilant and guards our house all the time.

Why I wanted to keep a Pet Dog?

Everyone in my family is fond of Roger. We all treat him like a family member. We cannot imagine life without him. However, I still remember the time when I wanted to keep a pet dog and all my family members were against the idea. I was 8 years old that time and my friend, Aanya owned a very cute little pug. She always brought it to the park. Whenever I visited her place, I saw her playing with it. Both of them looked so happy and loved each other’s company. Many a times, I called Aanya to play with me at my home but she refused saying she was busy feeding or bathing Roger. I felt really bad and wished that I too had a dog as a company. It is then that I decided to bring home a pet dog.

How I struggled to get My Pet Dog?

I knew I wanted a dog as a pet but I wasn’t aware that it would be such a struggle for me to convince my parents to get one home. As soon as, the thought of keeping a pet dog came into my mind, I rushed to my mom and told her that I want to get one home. My mother just laughed and dismissed my request with a pat on my cheek. I repeated my wish and she again took it lightly. This infuriated me and I told her that I really wanted a pet. It was then that my mother realized that I was serious about it. So she made me sit and explained as to why we could not keep a pet.

Both my parents are working. Though my grandparents live with us, they are old and taking care of a pet would have been too much to ask from them. Besides, my brother was a toddler then and my mother feared that he might catch infection. She tried to explain all these points to me. But I did not listen to any of her explanations. I went to my grandmother and requested her to convince mom to get a pet dog. My grandmother also tried to explain the same points. However, I kept convincing her for days and she finally agreed to take care of the dog for half the day until I came home from school. The rest was all my responsibility.

Somehow, I also convinced my father. Since he has a liking for dogs, convincing him was not that difficult. So finally my mother had to agree. We went to a nearby pet shop and my heart went drooling over this 2 months old German shepherd who was sleeping peacefully in a small cage. I knew at once that I wanted to keep him.

Roger won everyone’s Heart

Roger was so small and cute that almost everyone in my family fell in love with it as soon as I brought him home. My mother who detested the idea of bringing a pet home also found it cute and grew fond of it over the time. Dogs love babies and are very protective about them. Roger and my younger brother thus became friends almost instantly. Super excited about including Roger in the family, I told all my friends about it the same day.

Roger has become an inseparable part of our lives today and I just love it. Dogs are really adorable. I feel that everyone should keep a pet dog.

500 Word Essay on My Pet Dog

From the moment I first laid eyes on that bundle of golden fur, I knew we were meant to be best friends for life. Cody, my golden retriever, has been an unconditional source of love, loyalty, and laughter for over a decade now. He is truly one of the greatest companions I could ever ask for. Cody came into my life as an 8-week-old puppy, with the most adorable teddy bear face and warm, curious eyes that could melt your heart. But don’t let that sweet look fool you – he was a rambunctious ball of energy from day one. My family and I spent months patiently potty training him, teaching him obedience commands, and redirecting his friendly puppy nipping. It was challenging but rewarding work.

As Cody grew into an adult dog, his true golden retriever personality blossomed. He is the gentlest, most affectionate creature, always eager to shower us with wet kisses and snuggle up for belly rubs at a moment’s notice. With his eternally wagging tail and bright, inviting expression, Cody makes an immediate connection with anyone he meets. One of the things I love most about golden retrievers is their eager-to-please demeanor and high intelligence. Cody lives to make his human family happy. He studies our faces and actions intently, following commands and picking up on our routines with ease. We’ve been able to train him to do all sorts of tricks and tasks – from fetching objects to cleaning up his toys to even pulling off the perfect “play dead.”

At the same time, Cody has a wonderful goofy, playful side that keeps us laughing every day. He gets intense and bouncy when he wants to play tug-of-war or fetch. He makes us chuckle by tilting his head inquisitively at new noises. And sometimes he just does silly things like drooling while he sleeps or getting the classic “zoomies” for no reason. Having a dog like Cody has been an amazing source of joy but also an incredible lesson in unconditional love, patience, responsibility, and living for each moment. Dogs don’t dwell on the past or future – they are fully present. Cody takes the good and bad of each day in stride. Even if I’m frustrated after a long workday, Cody is always ecstatic to greet me with a wagging tail when I walk through the door, his only care being that I’m home.

Cody’s deep loyalty and steadfast companionship has helped me through some tough times in life. He has an incredible intuition for emotions and always seems to know when I need an extra cuddle or kiss on a difficult day. No matter what, I know Cody’s unconditional love for me will never waver. That’s something special that every dog owner understands about the beautiful human-animal bond. After over a decade together, Cody is now an elderly dog with graying fur. But his warm, loving spirit and puppy-like zest for life remain as strong as ever. He reminds me daily to embrace each new experience with that same innocence, loyalty and joy. Cody is more than just a pet – he is a true friend for life. I feel so blessed to be able to share my life with such an amazing, loving animal.

800 Word Essay on My Pet Dog

I was walking home from class, huddled against the crisp wind, when I noticed a scruffy little dog sitting all alone under a streetlamp. His big brown eyes were wide with caution yet brimming with hope as our gazes locked. In that moment, I knew he needed me as much as I needed him. I cautiously approached, offering a few soothing words and holding out a hand to sniff. Rather than cowering or running away as I expected, the pup seemed to appraise me with wisdom beyond his years. After a moment’s pause, he tentatively nudged my hand with his cold, wet nose. My heart melted as I scooped him up into my jacket, feeling his warmth pressed against me. So began my journey with Tommy, the most remarkable indie pup I’ve ever known.

From the start, Tommy proved to be incredibly smart, obedient, and adaptable despite his life on the streets. Within a couple weeks, he had adjusted seamlessly to living indoors, grasping potty training and basic commands. But he was much more than an ordinary pup. Tommy always seemed to sense my shifting emotions, responding with the perfect mixture of playfulness, affection, and calm presence as each situation required.

His emotional intelligence allowed us to form a profound, unbreakable bond. Tommy became my shadow, greeting me with excited tail-wags and sloppy kisses whenever I walked through the door after class or work. He loved to snuggle up on my lap as I studied, seemingly content to just soak up my company and affection. During stressful periods, Tommy’s warm, grounding presence and deep brown eyes could instantly subdue my anxiety and remind me of what really mattered most. Despite being on his own at such a young age, Tommy never developed behavioral issues like excessive barking, aggression, or separation anxiety that many strays struggle with. Instead, he showered everyone he met with endless puppy energy and enthusiasm, his whole body seeming to vibrate with wriggling excitement when offered a pat or a treat. Even kids, strangers, and other pets were instantly accepted as friends in Tommy’s eyes.

As an indie mix, Tommy’s exact breed makeup was anyone’s guess. His scruffy tan and white coat gave him a coyote-like appearance. His tall, pointed ears and muscular build hinted at some terrier ancestry. But most striking were his wildly mismatched eyes – one a warm brown, the other an icy blue-gray. Whatever his origins, Tommy was simply one-of-a-kind. He loved to chase squirrels and birds into the brush, requiring me to wrestle him out of dense bushes or scale trees to retrieve my muddy, leaf-covered pup. He also had a bad habit of counter-surfing to swipe any tempting human food left unattended. More than once, I returned home to find him proudly licking his chops surrounded by a mess of scattered wrappers and crumbs.

But his best trick was his fearless composure around larger animals. Despite his small stature, Tommy never hesitated to strike up play with bigger dogs at the park or boldly approach horses. He seemed to lack any sense of self-preservation or awareness of his diminutive size. I’ll never forget the image of Tommy emphatically barking up at an enormous, bewildered draft horse while I chased him in mortified embarrassment.

As the years passed, Tommy transformed from a pup into a more dignified, albeit slightly mischievous adult dog. His protectiveness over me became more pronounced as his youthful enthusiasm mellowed slightly with age. Tommy appointed himself as a watchdog of sorts, keeping a keen eye on anyone who came by the house. Yet he never lost his loving, gentle demeanor with people and furry friends. Now Tommy has been by my side for nearly a decade, his face graying around the muzzle. With each passing year, I’m reminded how lucky I was to cross paths with this spunky, loving canine on that fateful autumn night. Tommy filled a void in my life that I never knew needed filling until he arrived.

From his endless affection and patience to his silly antics and misbehavior, Tommy has brought me more laughter, companionship, and joy than I ever could have imagined. However if you look at young children of the Doberman breed you will see their softer side and I have experienced this side of my pet Doberman which we affectionately call Bruno.

Why did my parents decide to get a pet dog ?

Soon after marriage my parents shifted to Goa. He took a house on rent in Goa. It was a beautiful home that was well suited for a family of two. The only problem though was that the house was a bit isolated. It was at a distance from other houses in the vicinity. To ensure my mother’s safety and security, when my father went into the office, he decided to bring home a pet dog. He decided to get a Doberman breed dog as it is fearless, brave and strong in stature. Due to this quality, the Doberman dog is preferred in police and military services around the world.

My mother was already very fond of dogs and Bruno became her best friend in the new city. Since the Doberman requires daily exercise, my mom used to take it for walks twice a day. My dad also enjoyed its company. Bruno loved me very much and from the time I was born, he used to protect me and play with me all the time.

Why did we have to give away our Doberman ?

I was very attached to Bruno and my mother was also very attached to it. However, we had to put it away because my father got the opportunity to work in the United States, due to which we had to live there for two years. With a sad heart we had to give it to one of our neighbors who happily took it to their home. We often spoke to Bruno to inquire about his condition.

How did I meet an Indian Spitz ?

After two years we came back to India. This time in a different city. I wanted to have a pet dog again but my mother was not ready for it but it seemed as if God listened to my wish and granted it.

One day when I was on my way home from school, I saw a spitz dog struggling to get his leg out of a bicycle tire. As soon as I saw all this I immediately came forward to help. It was someone’s pet but it seemed to have lost its way. I took his leg off the tire and stroked his head lovingly.

Spitz are very affectionate. He started licking my hand. I looked around for its owner but he could not be seen by me. As I started walking towards my house it started following me. I took it back to the place where I first saw it so that its owner would come back looking for it but for several weeks no one came to pick it up. Since then it has stayed with us. I named it Jiggles.

This is because of the texture and color of his body. It is alert at all times and guards our home at all times.

Why did I want to have a pet dog ?

Everyone in my family likes Roger. We all treat him like a family member. We cannot even imagine life without him. Although I still remember the time when I wanted to have a pet dog and all my family members were against the idea. When I was 8 my friend Anya had a very cute pug. She always brought him to the park. She used to play with her whenever I visited her. Both looked very happy and it seemed that both of them liked each other’s company. Several times I invited Anya to play together at my house but she refused every time saying that she was busy feeding or bathing Roger. It hurt me to hear this and I always wanted to have a dog as a friend. With that in mind, I decided to bring a pet dog into the house.

How did I struggle to get my pet dog ?

As soon as the idea of keeping a pet dog came to my mind, I went to my mother and told her that I want a dog in the house. On hearing this my mother laughed and slapped my cheek and rejected my request. I reiterated my wish and he again took it lightly. My mom’s behavior angered me and I told her that I really wanted a pet dog. Then my mother came to know that I was serious about it and then she sat down and explained to me why we cannot have a pet dog.

Both my parents work. Although my grandparents lived with us, it was not right to ask the old grandparents about taking care of the pets. Apart from this, when my brother was young, my mother was afraid that she might catch the infection. He tried to explain all these points to me but I did not listen to any of his explanations. I went to my grandmother and requested her to convince mom to bring home a pet dog. My grandmother also tried to support my mother but I kept on persuading her for several days and finally one day I convinced her. She agreed to take care of the dog for half a day until I got home from school. After that everything else was my responsibility.

Somehow I also convinced my father. Since he also likes dogs very much, it was not difficult to convince him. After accepting all this, finally my mother also agreed. We went to a nearby pet store and it took my heart to see this 2-month-old German Shepherd sleeping peacefully in a small cage. I knew as soon as I saw it that this was the one I wanted to have in my house.

Roger won everyone’s heart

Roger was so small and sweet that almost everyone in my family fell in love with him as soon as he brought him into the house. My mother, who loathed the idea of bringing home a pet dog, also found it cute as time went on. The dog is very fond of babies and is very protective of them. Roger and my younger brother thus became friends. I was so excited to add Roger to the family. I had already told all my friends about this day.

Roger has become an inseparable part of our lives today and I adore him very much. Dogs are really cute. I think everyone should have a pet dog.

Reader wants to become a literary contributor to my column. Good luck with that | Adams

short essay my pet

Sometimes, I tend to overlook the obvious, which helps explain why I’ve never informed readers on how they can become a literary contributor to this column, which has yet to be eliminated from Pulitzer Prize consideration.

Dan writes: Daily reader, especially of all things Vols. How do I become a member of your email group?

My response: It’s simple.

Start off by emailing me a resume. Also, write a 500-word essay on “Why I Want to be a Literary Contributor to John Adams’ column?”

Then, send me several references, not including next of kin. If one of your references is already in the group, please mention him or her.

That’s all you need for the first phase of the application process.

Next, I will send you topics on three consecutive days and ask you to respond as if you were trying to have your email published. Your emails will be judged on your quickness to respond as well as your creativity.

Don’t worry about spelling. Some of my contributors still can’t spell Josh Heupel’s name. I will clean up the spelling unless you miss the word by more than three letters. In that case, I will include it in my column for the purpose of ridicule.

Ken writes: John, you show great patience in dealings with your readers. Most can’t comprehend the idea that you don’t work for the Tennessee Athletic Department. A reporter’s job is to report the news, good or bad. A columnist’s job is to offer his option, popular or not.

As far as the worst hire, it has to be Fulmer. He hired Pruitt and Harper, plus fleeced UT for millions of dollars. Mike Hamilton was the best hire. He saved UT hoops with the Pearl hire. PS- Dave Hart sucked as well. Seemed like he had “little man disease.“

My response: My survey column on Tennessee’s worst hires has generated more responses than any other question.

Why? Probably because I tapped into readers' deep-seeded resentment for the past failures of Tennessee administrators and coaches. If you want to vent, you have come to the right place.

But in the future, please refrain from criticizing the physical appearance of your subjects. I didn’t think Hart was that short. I did think he had the darkest hair in the athletic department.

Pat writes: Just because people keep watching college football doesn’t mean the change is good or that it shouldn’t be reversed.  Put the PAC 12 back together and reform the Power 5 conferences so that we have a return of regional rivals.

We have to also enforce the requirements to play one team from each of the other power 5 conferences every year. No more patsies.

My response: The disintegration of the Pac-12 shouldn’t have happened. I blame its demise on awful leadership.

I wish we could could bring it back. And I wish we could bring back the Southwest Conference. If NIL deals had come along in the early 1980s, the SWC still would be with us. In fact, it would be flourishing.

It was ahead of its time in rewarding college athletes for their contributions.

Shemp writes: Having eight teams in the top 15 must be Greg “it’s always about the money” Sanctimonious’ wildest dream.

ADAMS: Readers divided on possible super conference in college football. Here's my advice.

However, those rankings are based on the teams’ independent strengths. Most of those teams have to play a schedule loaded with much of the other seven.

Last year, the Pac 12 started out with a lot of high placed teams until they started playing each other.

My response: The 247Sports preseason rankings have nine SEC teams among the top 19. That’s quite a compliment, but – as you point out – unattainable.

When I voted in The Associated Press poll, my preseason rankings were based on how I thought teams would be ranked in the final top-25 polls look. That requires you to weigh schedules heavily.

Here’s how I would rank the top SEC teams if I were compiling a preseason top 25: (1) Georgia, (3) Ole Miss, (7) Texas, (8) Tennessee.

I believe all four will make the playoff.

Under Relentless Russian Assault, Ukraine Adopts a Defensive Crouch

As Moscow’s forces retake land from which they were ousted at the end of 2022, the Ukrainian military has adopted a strategy of fighting while slowly falling back to more heavily fortified positions.

Reporting from villages in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine

  • May 22, 2024

At a high point for Ukraine in its war against Russia, when its army was sweeping Russian forces from the country’s northeast, a small-town police chief proudly hung a Ukrainian flag on his newly liberated city hall.

A year and a half later, the policeman, Oleksiy Kharkivskyi, was dashing into the burning ruins of the same town, Vovchansk , last week to evacuate its few remaining residents as Russian forces closed in.

“Everywhere they come is just razed to the ground,” Mr. Kharkivskyi said of the advance of the Russian troops , who have returned to the region with a scorched-earth ferocity, setting in motion one of the largest displacements of people since the first months of the war.

Russian troops punched across the border between Russia and Ukraine this month and pushed toward Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, which has a population of about a million people. Military analysts say Russia lacks the troops to capture the city but could advance to within artillery range, touching off a larger flow of refugees.

Militarily, the incursion seems intended to stretch Ukraine’s already thin and underequipped forces by diverting troops from the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, still seen as the likely target of a Russian offensive this summer. It has also had the destabilizing effect of sending thousands of dismayed, disheartened people from the border region deeper into Ukraine.

After more than a week of fierce fighting, the Ukrainian Army has fallen back to more heavily fortified positions about five miles from the border, which they have held now for several days. Even more formidable positions — trenches, concrete tank traps and bunkers — lie farther to the rear.

Regional officials say the attack has so far displaced about 8,000 people, and a frantic effort is underway to evacuate stragglers, mostly older people, from towns and villages in the path of the Russian advance.

Many have fled villages that lay in front of the defensive lines, an area given over to skirmishing and ambushes, and heavily bombarded by Russian artillery.

While hardly ideal as a strategy — and accounts from commanders and soldiers suggest Ukraine executed it with some mishaps — the tactic of defending while retreating in small steps allows a weaker force to inflict heavy casualties on attackers. Those on the offensive must storm row after row of positions as they move forward, continually breaking cover and exposing themselves to artillery.

Ukraine, with insufficient troops as a mobilization effort stalled for months and short on ammunition as the U.S. Congress delayed a spending bill, has used the strategy out of necessity after Russian forces took the city of Avdiivka in February.

It comes, of course, at a cost of slices of territory — and of misfortune for those living on the wrong side of the fortifications the Ukrainians will probably fall back on.

Vasily Holoborodko, 65, a retired airplane mechanic, had remained on his farm even as he watched soldiers build tank traps and trenches on the wrong side of his property — away from the Russian border.

When the attack came, he was soon caught in the fighting. Mr. Holoborodko made a dash for safety on Thursday, passing burning houses and blown-up tanks — and the more robust defensive lines.

“We barely got out,” he said. In his rush to flee, he left behind his chickens, his cat and his dog “to whatever God will give them.”

The villages dotted around pine forests north of Kharkiv are picturesque jumbles of brightly painted one-story homes, with gardens freshly planted. The fighting retreat, however militarily sound, has meant surrendering some to ruin.

“The tactics of the Russians have changed radically compared to 2022,” said Capt. Petro Levkovskiy, chief of staff of the operational battalion of Ukraine’s 13th Brigade, referring to the invasion that February. At that time, he noted, “They came in columns, marching to Kharkiv, because they thought they would be welcomed.” Russia occupied the border area until September 2022.

This month, heavy artillery bombardments from across the border in Russia announced the latest attack. “They fire artillery at long distances, destroy everything, then small groups assault, but in large numbers, from different directions,” Captain Levkovskiy said.

On a drive north toward the border from Kharkiv last week, pickup trucks and armored vehicles sped in the same direction, while cars overstuffed with people, bags of clothes and pet carriers raced south.

Wildfires burned through the pines, and smoke rose from burning villages farther north.

Sprays of dirt from fresh artillery strikes spattered the road. The window for evacuating civilians from areas in front of Ukraine’s fortifications is closing.

Scenes of anguish unfolded as people left homes, and sometimes pets, at a moment’s notice.

When an evacuation team arrived at his home in Bilyi Kolodyaz, Pavel Nelup, 30, quickly threw a duffel bag into the car and clambered in as artillery rumbled nearby.

“It’s scarier this time” he said of the latest Russian attacks. “Now we understand they won’t leave anybody alive.”

His German shepherd, left behind for lack of space, stared balefully at him from a gap under the fence, whimpering.

A neighbor, Elena Konovalova, 58, emerged to say goodbye to Mr. Nelup. “My precious, see you later,” she said. “You will be all right.”

Vitaly Kylchik, a chaplain with the 110th Territorial Defense Brigade helping with evacuations, urged her to leave soon, too.

“Don’t sit and wait like the people in Vovchansk,” he said of the town to the north, from where plumes of black smoke were rising. The city hall where the flag was proudly hung after liberation is now a ruin, residents said.

Daria Sorokoletova 40, a resident of Vovchansk, fled on Wednesday. Just as she left her home, an artillery shell hit it, blowing it to smithereens.

“There is nothing there,” she said. “There is nowhere to go back to.”

Even as its citizens are forced to evacuate , the Ukrainian government has defended the strategy of retreating to the defensive lines. Russia has advanced over about 50 square miles and captured about a dozen villages, many now in rubble.

On Friday, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said the Russian offensive had reached but not crossed a first line of defenses, beyond those villages.

“The first line is not the border,” Mr. Zelensky said. “It is impossible to build there because our people were getting killed” by artillery fire as they dug fortifications and laid mines, an effort that began in 2022 but intensified in recent months.

A guessing game for the generals awaits. How far Russia advances depends on how many soldiers both sides commit. For Ukraine, that calculation means moving defenders from other potential sites of attack.

“War is interactive,” Johan Norberg, a senior military analyst at Sweden’s Defense Research Agency, said in a telephone interview. “What the Ukrainians do or don't do is just as important as what the Russians do.” Capturing the city of Kharkiv, he said, would require Russia to commit “not just a few thousand but hundreds of thousands” of soldiers.

Residents have less assurances. After Ukraine reclaimed their village, Staryi Saltiv, in 2022, Mykhaylo Voinov, 63, and his wife, Olena Voinova, 54, repaired the roof, plugged shrapnel damage and replaced broken windows. In a lovingly manicured backyard, bird song mixed with the rumble of artillery.

“We live our life to the fullest, even knowing at any time we might have to pack and leave,” Ms. Voinova said. “Of course it’s very hard, but this is our land, we are ready to rebuild again and again.”

In one sign of the exodus, Elena Bubenko, 59, who takes in stray dogs and pets that her neighbors placed in her care before fleeing, is now caring for 116 dogs in the village of Tsykuni, north of Kharkiv.

If Ukrainian troops need to fall back beyond her village, she said, she would understand and just hoped to evacuate the animals in time.

“They should defend their own lives,” not the villages, she said. “Otherwise, who will be left to fight for us?”
