First party cookies are the cookies served by the owner of the domain. In our case, that's TC Global. Any cookie we place ourselves is a "first-party cookie."

Third-party cookies are cookies placed on our domains by trusted partners that we've allowed to do so. These can be social media partners, advertising partners, security providers, and more. And they can be either "session cookies" or "permanent cookies":

Session cookies only exist until you close your browser, ending what's called your "session." Then they're deleted.

Permanent cookies have a range of lifespans and stay on your device after the browser is closed. On the Site, we try to only serve permanent cookies (or allow permanent cookies to be served by third parties) that have a limited lifespan. However, for security reasons or in other exceptional circumstances, sometimes we may need to give a cookie a longer lifespan.

Web browser cookies may store info such as your IP address or other identifiers, your browser type, and info about the content you view and interact with on digital services. By storing this info, web browser cookies can remember your preferences and settings for online services and analyze how you use them.

Along with cookies, we also use tracking technologies that are very similar. Our Site may contain small transparent image files or lines of code that record how you interact with them. These include "web beacons," "scripts," "tracking URLs," or "software development kits" (known as SDKs):

Web beacons have a lot of different names. They might also be known as web bugs, tracking bugs, tags, web tags, page tags, tracking pixels, pixel tags, 1x1 GIFs, or clear GIFs. In short, these beacons are a tiny graphic image of just one pixel that can be delivered to your device as part of a web page request, in an app, an advertisement, or an HTML email message. They can be used to retrieve info from your device, such as your device type, operating system, IP address, and the time of your visit. They are also used to serve and read cookies in your browser or to trigger the placement of a cookie.

Scripts are small computer programs embedded within our web pages that give those pages a wide variety of extra functionality. Scripts make it possible for the website to function properly. For example, scripts power certain security features and enable basic interactive features on our website. Scripts can also be used for analytical or advertising purposes. For example, a script can collect info about how you use our website, such as which pages you visit or what you search for.

Tracking URLs are links with a unique identifier in them. These are used to track which website brought you to the Site. An example woold be if you clicked from a social media page, search engine, or one of our affiliate partners' websites.

Software Development Kits (SDKs) are part of our apps' source code. Unlike browser cookies, SDK data is stored in the app storage. They're used to analyze how the apps are being used or to send personalized push notifications. To do this, they record unique identifiers associated with your device, like your device ID, IP address, in-app activity, and network location.

All these tracking technologies are referred to as "cookies" here in this Cookie Statement. However, no Personal Information identifying the user is collected nor any data capture mechanisms are employed. The user may change browser settings to accept or reject cookies on personal preference. You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify the browser setting to decline cookies if you so prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use other interactive features of the Site that may depend on cookies. If you choose to accept cookies, you also have the ability to later delete cookies that you have accepted. If you choose to delete cookies, any settings and preferences controlled by those cookies, including advertising preferences, will be deleted and may need to be recreated. We process and keep all data for our own use and, if you wish to opt-out from tracking by TC Global you can do so at [email protected]

Here are the major benefits of doing PhD in UK:

A PhD is an internationally recognised postgraduate academic degree offered by universities and higher education organisations to candidates who have completed considerable and unique research in their chosen subject. PhD degrees differ based on where you are and what subject you are studying.

However, in general, the PhD is the highest degree a student may obtain (with some exceptions). It normally comes after a master's degree, while some universities enable students to go straight to a PhD after completing their bachelor's degree. Some universities will also allow you to 'upgrade' or 'fast-track' your master's degree to a Ph.D. if you have the appropriate grades, knowledge, skills, and research ability.

A PhD traditionally entails three to four years of full-time study during which the student completes a major piece of original research that is submitted as a thesis or dissertation. Some PhD schools accept a portfolio of published articles, while others also demand coursework.

In addition, students must perform a 'viva voce,' or oral defence of their PhD. This can be done with a small group of examiners or in front of a large panel of examiners (both usually last between one to three hours). While Ph.D. students have typically been required to study on campus under tight supervision, advances in remote education and e-learning have led to an increase in the number of institutions enrolling part-time and distance-learning PhD students.

Universities in the United Kingdom do research in all key topic areas, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and so on. In addition, the UK government intends to assist overseas researchers by instituting a three-year post-study visa and extending studentships to international students earning PhDs. This is a primary reason why one should pursue PhD programs in the United Kingdom.

Let us now introduce you to the additional reasons why PhD programs in the UK are so popular among Indian students:

  • Popular Study Destination: With more than ten institutions in the top 100 universities list worldwide, the United Kingdom is a popular study destination for international students.
  • Greatest Research Infrastructure: The United Kingdom is home to some of the world's best universities. These are famed for their cutting-edge research infrastructure; thus, pursuing a PhD in the UK is a dream come true for overseas students.
  • Various Culture: PhD programs in the United Kingdom give international students the greatest infrastructure/facilities as well as the opportunity to discover diverse cultures.
  • Career and Scope: Studying at one of the world's most prestigious PhD universities in the United Kingdom will provide you with a rewarding career. Students with a PhD can pursue commercial research, business-oriented research, or academic careers.

Universities in the United Kingdom feature cutting-edge infrastructure and world-class amenities to support PhD students' research. Its programs are well-known across the world. As a result, international students find it challenging to select a PhD program that best meets their talents and interests.

The table below lists some of these popular degrees, as well as the colleges that offer them:

International students chose the United Kingdom because it is recognised for its excellent standards in the field of research. Most PhD universities in the United Kingdom are well known for their research outputs. We've compiled a list of the best PhD programmes for you below:

While qualifying standards fluctuate significantly amongst colleges, the following are common criteria found at the majority of UK universities:

  • You must have been accepted to study at a UK institution and have received confirmation of acceptance (CAS).
  • In most cases, a PhD applicant must demonstrate strong performance throughout their undergraduate degree. Admission to the PhD program requires an upper second-class honours degree. This must be in an area relevant to the PhD program.
  • International students may be asked to submit a research proposal outlining their research objectives and methodologies.
  • Your PhD program must be full-time or part-time .
  • You must be fluent in the English language. A minimum IELTS score of 7 is required. Other examinations, such as the TOEFL and PTE , with scores of 90 and 60, respectively, are also acceptable.
  • You must be financially capable of paying your fees, or your PhD funding should be granted to cover your tuition and living expenses in the UK.
  • For PhD aspirants, there is no centralised application portal. As a result, students must send their applications to their desired university's application portal on their own.
  • A master's degree or, in some instances, a four-year bachelor's degree is the minimum qualification needed for admission to a PhD program in the UK. International students may be expected to submit a research proposal outlining their research interests and methodology as part of their application. They must also provide proof of English language in the form of IELTS/TOEFL result sheets.
  • Most institutions require personal statements, letters of recommendation (LORs) , and previous academic records to be sent through email.

Before proceeding to find out the popular universities for aspirants to study PhD in the UK, let's quickly go through some of the major requirements to study in the UK which one needs to ensure:

  • A degree comparable to a Masters degree in the United Kingdom or a four-year bachelors (Hons) degree is required.

  • Submit the application form and application cost.
  • Submit the needed papers and criteria as specified by the institution.

  • If your university offers scholarships or financial help, apply for one.
  • Wait for a decision on admittance.

The cost of studying for a PhD in the UK for an Indian student ranges from 18 to 36 lakh INR each year; however, this is only a concern for PhD students who are self-funded and pay all costs. PhD students from other countries will be required to pay significantly more. PhD students can get funding from the UK Research Council in the form of a tuition fee grant and a stipend of around £15,000 (INR 14,95,380) to cover living expenses. A significant percentage of PhD students self-fund, and other sources of support include government programs, both British and international governments, businesses, and the university itself.

The majority of UK institutions offer a Studentship to postgraduate research students (PhD and MRes). These prizes are supported by the department, college, or an external entity and often pay tuition costs plus a stipend. Some studentships additionally pay the cost of attending seminars and workshops connected to research initiatives undertaken by PhD students in the UK. Applicants are chosen for such rewards based on their academic performance in master's and bachelor's degrees.

Furthermore, institutions and other external entities provide grants to overseas students seeking a PhD degree in the United Kingdom. Some examples are as follows:

UK Research and Innovation, a financing body, also offers financial possibilities to overseas students in the UK based on research initiatives. It works with other countries, inviting their citizens to perform research on a predetermined topic. The funds are intended to be used totally for the project.

The PhD cost in the UK is relatively expensive, but so are the returns. PhD graduates from the United Kingdom are observed conducting commercial research after graduation in education, science, technology, medicine, and other sectors. Apart from working in academia or pursuing higher education, students are frequently seen working in the commercial sector, undertaking research for corporate organisations.

We have tabulated the earnings for several PhD job descriptions below to give you a better idea of what professions after PhD look like in the UK:

With an average pay of £49,825, the UK is without a doubt one of the best PhD locations. Not only do overseas students have a greater rate of return, but they also have an easier time obtaining PhD scholarships in the UK.

Studentships and doctoral training

Get a studentship to fund your doctorate.

UKRI studentships offer funding for doctoral research. They also offer you access to training, networking and development opportunities to help you build a research and innovation career.

Our expectations for research organisations, supervisors and students are set out in the statement of expectations for doctoral training .

You could get:

  • a minimum stipend of £19,237 per year for your living costs, which is paid to you in regular instalments
  • support for your tuition fees (minimum £4,786 per year)

The stipend is usually non-taxable and does not need to be paid back. Some research organisations may offer more if you study in London, or they or one of their collaborators might decide to top up the payment. This will be outlined in the studentship advert from the research organisation.

We normally pay the support for tuition fees directly to your research organisation.

The levels given here are for the academic year 2024 to 2025. UKRI’s approach to doctoral stipend and fee levels will be reviewed through the  new deal for postgraduate research .

Additional support for your doctoral studies

As a UKRI-funded doctoral student, you may be able to access additional funding to cover the cost of other related training and development opportunities.

This could include:

  • conference attendance
  • language training
  • overseas research visits
  • internships or placements with a non-academic partner

The availability of support will depend on the research organisation and the training grants they have on offer. You should contact the research organisation you are interested in applying to, to find out what you could get.

Extra support if you have a disability

If you have a disability, you may be entitled to a Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) on top of your studentship.

You should speak to your research organisation’s disability advisor to assess your needs. They can help put the right support in place, including a DSA application if necessary. You cannot claim DSA directly from UKRI.

DSA helps to cover the cost of any additional support that a person studying for a doctorate might need as a result of a disability, mental health problem or specific learning difficulty.

The allowance covers:

  • non-medical personal assistance
  • specialist equipment
  • extra travel costs
  • general expenses

Find out more about DSA in our framework .

If you are a research organisation you can download claim forms and guidance for DSA .

Who can apply

Any prospective doctoral student wishing to study at a UK research organisation, including prospective international students, can apply for a UKRI studentship.

All UKRI-funded doctoral students will be eligible for the full award, both the stipend to support living costs, and home-level fees at the UK research organisation rate.

How to find opportunities

Many UK research organisations offer some form of studentship funding from UKRI. These opportunities will depend on the subject you want to study and will normally be advertised by the research organisations.

Research organisations may have additional opportunities that do not involve UKRI. UKRI supports around 20% of all UK-based postgraduate researchers. You should speak to the research organisation you are interested in to find out what studentships are available.

You could also consider using a specialist website like   FindaPhD  to look for opportunities.

When to apply

Research organisations set their own deadlines for applications.

Many open for applications early in the academic year and close in January or February. This is not a hard and fast rule. It is important that you check the deadlines for the research organisation where you want to study.

How to apply

You cannot apply to UKRI for a studentship. You must contact the research organisation you are interested in studying with and use their application process.

For doctoral students who are already studying with a studentship, there are opportunities to get additional funding to support placements that are separate from your doctorate.  Find training and development opportunities .

  • How Much Does a PhD Cost in the UK?
  • Funding a PhD

Choosing to dedicate the next few years of your life towards a PhD is no light decision. Not only will it require you to dedicate an extensive amount of your personal time, but you’ll also need to consider how you’ll fund it. This raises the question, how much does a PhD cost in the UK?

The cost of a PhD can be divided into three key areas; tuition fees, living expenses and research expenditures. The combined cost of these are approximately  £20,000 per year  for UK students and can increase to over  £40,000 per year  for international students. A more in-depth breakdown of these costs can be found below. We’ve also compared these costs to other countries and outlined the various methods available to you to fund your PhD studies.

Tuition Fees

For UK ‘home’ students, the tuition fee for a PhD varies between £3,000 to £6,000 per academic year. For 2023/24 programmes, most universities opt for £4,712 per year within this range. Although this number may seem a little odd, it’s commonly adopted due to being the indicative rate set by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for UK universities.

International Fees

Unlike for UK applicants, the rates for international students don’t align with the indicative level set by UKRI. Following the implementation of Brexit, EU students now follow the same fee rates as other international students. International students will find that their tuition fees are higher than those of home students. For example, at the time of writing, the average annual PhD tuition charge at the University of Dundee is £4,825 for home students undertaking an Engineering PhD. This same average is £25,305 for international students.

International applicants will also find that the fee for PhDs in STEM subjects are greater than those in non-STEM subjects. For example, at the University of Bristol, a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering costs £25,300 per year whilst a doctorate in Medieval Studies costs £20,100 per year.

To summarise, international students can expect a tuition fee of between £16,000 to £25,000 per year, with an average of around £19,600 per academic year. Non-STEM subjects will generally be at the lower end of the range, whilst STEM subjects will be at the higher end of the range.

Part-time Fees

The above fees are based on full-time postgraduate study. If you’re doing a part-time PhD, you can expect the fee to be half of these amounts. Although this may appear to be a cheaper option, keep in mind that the average duration of part-time PhDs are twice that of full-time PhDs. Therefore, the total tuition cost will amount to the same value and the end of both courses.

Other Degree-related Costs

Research support fees.

If your research project requires a high use of consumables, equipment or other resources, you may have to support the cost of these through an additional annual fee. This additional annual fee, often referred to as either a ‘research support’ or ‘bench’ fee, often apply to laboratory-based STEM research projects. Bench fees vary between different projects, even those within the same field. Therefore, it is best to speak to the admissions team on a project-by-project basis to receive anything useful.

Another cost you will need to account for is travelling. As part of your degree, many supervisors will expect you to attend conferences, training workshops, or other collaboration opportunities. As a result, you will often need to travel to various destinations which aren’t always limited to the UK. Although some programmes will cover these costs, it’s not unheard of that some positions will expect you to fund this yourself. It’s impossible to put a value on this, as the extent of travel depends on each project. Therefore, it would be wise to speak with the admissions team and current PhD students. They can provide you with an accurate estimate and let you know whether the university will cover the expenses.

Overtime Period Fee

When you’re enrolled into a PhD programme, you will be given a period to complete your PhD within. This period is known as your ‘registration period’ and is usually 3-4 years for a full-time PhD and 6-7 years for a part-time PhD. If you’re given an extension due to not completing your PhD study within this time, you will need to pay an overtime registration fee. Although the amount depends on each university, the University of Leeds sets theirs as £290 for 2023/24.

Living Costs

From a 2022 survey of over 2,300 university students , the average living cost, covering expenditures such as rent, bills, food and recreation, was £924 per month. This equates to £11,088 per year.

Although this is an average cost, your true cost of living will depend on your location. Living in major cities such as London will draw significantly higher rent and travel costs than living in more rural locations. Although your living situation will in large be driven by the university you undertake your PhD with, you should factor it in when deciding which universities to apply to.

To put this into perspective, the survey average of £11,088 per year uses a rent average of £418 per month. In London, this average increases to £650 a month and can surpass £1,000 if staying in university halls or private student accommodation. This is supported by University College London (UCL) who state you should expect an average rent of £1,028 per month if living in private accommodation around their university.

Tip  – You can use this handy calculator for an estimated average cost of living for any UK university. All you need to do is select the university, and the calculator does all the rest.

If you’re an international student, you should factor in return flights back home. Although this may seem like a small expenditure compared to tuition fees and rent, they can add up quickly depending on the frequency and distance of your trip.

Finding a PhD has never been this easy – search for a PhD by keyword, location or academic area of interest.

How to Fund Your PhD

Studentships.

A studentship is a form of scholarship for doctoral students. They can either be partially funded, which cover tuition fees only, or fully funded, which also covers living costs through a ‘stipend’.

Studentships can be found in various places. Research Councils (RCUK) and European Social Fund (ESF) make funding available to university departments, who in turn make the funding available to doctoral students. Therefore, you will find that there are many postgraduate funding opportunities available to you, with the best places to look being the RCUK and ESF websites and the university departments themselves. External institutions which focus on research and development such as research trusts and charities would also be a useful place to look for a funded PhD.

Doctoral Loans

If you’re a UK student, you may qualify for a Postgraduate Doctoral Loan from Student Finance England. This form of financial aid is available for nearly all postgraduate research degrees undertaken in a higher education setting. They will allow you to borrow up to a total of £28,673 for 2023/24 courses .

Graduate Teaching Assistantships

Graduate Teaching Assistantships are a form of studentships which allow you to teach undergraduates as part of your research degree. This not only helps improve your academic skills, but it also enables you to receive a salary whilst you’re studying. As well as teaching assistantships, some departments also provide opportunities for demonstrations, marking papers, and tutorial support. The amount you can earn through these schemes will depend on how many hours you work and what agreements you make with your supervisor or course leader.

Working Whilst You Study – Part-time PhDs

A research student may opt for a part-time PhD as opposed to a full-time one. Although this would double the duration of their studies, it allows them to take on a part-time job to improve their financial situation. For students going down this route, it would be highly beneficial to pick up a part-time role in a position related to your industry. This will help refine your skills and increase your employability within this career role should you choose to pursue it after your degree.

If you’re an international student, keep in mind that you’ll likely be on a study visa. Therefore, there’ll be certain restrictions on what you can and can’t do alongside your study.

How Does This Compare to the Fees in Other Countries?

When considering the tuition fee of PhDs across different countries, the United Kingdom is generally considered as being in the ‘middle-ground‘ region.

A handful of countries offer PhD programmes for free. These include, but are not limited to, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Norway and Poland.

The middle-ground region comprises countries such as Austria, Spain, Russia and New Zealand where postgraduate fees range from £1,400 to £4,000 per academic year.

The upper-end region comprises countries such as Hong Kong and the United States, where postgraduate tuition fees for a PhD student can go up to £33,000 per year.

UK announces 75 scholarships in India’s 75th year of Independence

The UK government has partnered with leading businesses in India to offer 75 fully funded scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK from September.

London

This is the highest number of fully funded scholarships given for the one-year master’s programme to date.

HSBC, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons and Duolingo are supporting this special initiative to celebrate India’s 75th year of independence. The programmes on offer include Chevening scholarships for a one-year master’s programme, with the opportunity to study any subject at any recognised UK university. Further to this, the British Council in India is offering at least 18 scholarships for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) – covering over 12,000 courses across more than 150 UK universities. Along with these, the British Council is also offering six English scholarships.

The announcement comes as British and Indian leaders from international business and government gather in London for the India Global Forum.

Speaking at the India Global Forum, Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India, said:

In India’s 75th year, this is a great milestone together. Thanks to the exceptional support from our partners in industry, I am delighted to announce 75 scholarships for Indian students to experience the best of the UK. Nearly 30% of Chevening scholars in India come from smaller cities or are first generation students, making this an increasingly diverse programme

Hitendra Dave, CEO, HSBC, said:

We’re delighted to partner with Chevening for the ‘Chevening HSBC Scholarship’ programme. Our objective is to encourage young people with potential to become leaders and decision makers in their fields by leveraging the world class educational facilities offered under this programme. As a British bank with a significant lineage and legacy in India, we believe we have a meaningful role to play in developing leadership talent in the country.

During his recent visit to India, Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed the ‘India/UK Together’ programme, promoting the rich cultural ties between both countries. Education is one of the mainstays of the living bridge between the UK and India that connects our people through common values and affinities. Nearly 108,000 study visas were issued to Indian nationals in the year ending March 2022, almost double the number compared to the previous year.

Further information

HSBC India will sponsor 15 scholarships, Pearson India will sponsor two, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons and Duolingo will sponsor one each as part of the 75 scholarships.

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme offered in 150 countries, aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. India’s Chevening programme is the largest in the world with over 3500 alumni.

The fully funded scholarship includes tuition, living expenses and travel cost for a one-year-postgraduate programme. A minimum of two years’ work experience is required for candidates to be eligible for the award.

Further details, including on how to apply, can be found on the Chevening website .

Career Opportunities in UK

Being one of the largest economies in Europe, the UK has seen a significant decline in the unemployment rate. This reflects that study in UK for Indian students is an impeccable opportunity for them to build fulfilling careers in the country.

• Part-Time Employment in the UK As per the rules of the government, enrolled students are given an allowance to work for up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time, 40 hours, during holidays or vacation time.

While part-time employment is an option for students studying in UK , those students who are pursuing a course below the degree level are allowed to work only 10 hours a week (this was initially 20 hours but has been reduced since). Foundation Degree students are exempt from this cap and are allowed 20 hours. Students who are enrolled to study in UK from India can earn around £ 5 - £ 7/hour i.e., approximately £375 - £525/month during the term. They can also work 40 hours full-time during vacation time.

As UK education consultants, we often advise students to seek relevant employment opportunities by browsing through local newspapers and job shops, as well as the Universities and C career cells. While universities in UK assist students in seeking employment opportunities, they are not guaranteed part-time employment by the University.

As per the rules of the country, students looking to study in UK for six months or less, cannot work nor extend their visas further.

• Employment in the UK After Graduating

To attract international students, the UK government has altered its pre-set study visa rules for international students. Based on the new set of rules, international students from various countries, including India, are eligible to stay back for up to 2 years after the completion of their study program. Before the introduction of these new rules, students that completed their study in UK programs were allowed to stay back only for a maximum of 6 months. As a benefit to Indian students, the new visa rules apply to students who are enrolled to and are studying any subject at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This new visa requires a student to make a new application, which compromises payments of visa and health surcharge.

A prominent benefit to studying in the UK for Indian students is that it now gives them an opportunity to stay back and seek employment within the UK. During the stay-back period, if the student secures employment, they may switch their visas to the skilled work segment, which is a route that completes itself at immigration or settlement. Moreover, this doesn't restrict the type of jobs students are permitted to undertake. Although universities have opened their doors to international students, academic qualifications are still the main focus for universities in the UK when it comes to accepting the academically eminent.

This new route was launched in 2021, and eligible graduates in the summer of 2021 (Academic Year 2020-21) will now be able to apply for this route. This also includes those who have already commenced their course in 2020.

Thus now, study in UK for Indian students includes an application under this route after the completion of the program. In the time allowance of the visa, the students have secure employment and then switch their visas to that of a Work one and gain exposure.

Graduates looking to build careers in the field of Information Economy, Oil & Gas, Construction, Graphic Designers, Animators, Health Care, Restaurants, Medical Consultants, etc. are those who are going to greatly benefit from this route.

Education Cost in UK

The cost to study in UK is dependent on factors, like institution, course, location and funding opportunities. The apparent cost advantage is the shorter duration of the programs.

Living Expense

(The above conversion has been done at Rs 101.50*=£ 1. Subject to change*)

Testament to the multicultural environment and equal opportunities presented to the students, the satisfaction rate of international undergraduate students, with the cost of living in the UK , is higher than that of other study abroad destinations .

As UK universities offer a variety of courses across verticals, their programs have different durations. Being flexible to accommodate every student’s requirement, universities in UK also offer students the option of pursuing a Foundation Course and then deciding whether they would like to carry on studying and 'top-up' to a full degree, or only completing the course and moving on to employment. This offers students an option to take a break from their studies. This allows students to either return home or alternate between work and study, depending on the individual. <h2>Types of Accommodation</h2>

During education abroad, accommodation is one of the most important things that has to be factored into the total cost of education. Many institution and universities provide their Undergraduate, as well as Postgraduate students, with guaranteed accommodation in their Halls of Residence for at least their first year at the university, provided they inform the university within the given deadlines. This not only puts the student at ease but also the parents. These are the most common types of accommodation options.

  •   On-Campus: College hostels (self-catered or fully catered)
  •   Off-Campus: Renting a flat/apartment
  •   Homestay: With the Families near the institution.

Usually, organizations and universities offer stay periods that range from 40 weeks to 52 weeks. On average, an undergraduate student pursuing a 40-week long course can usually incur an expenditure of around Rs. 8 - 9 lakhs a year. While a postgraduate student may spend approximately Rs. 10 - 11 lakhs. To help students reduce the overall financial strain, there are various shops and establishments in the UK that offer a student discount. This helps students secure great deals on travel passes to help them reduce their cost of living. The option of private accommodation can prove to be more expensive than most university accommodations. As this option of accommodation isn’t inclusive of various facilities, the cost of living increases exponentially. Monthly expenses in UK definitely vary, based on the location of the university and city. As UK education consultants , we advise our students that if they wish to study in London , they should expect to approximately pay £13,521 as it is the most populous and expensive city in the UK.

Scholarships in UK

To help students with tuition or expenses, there are a number of scholarships available that have certain requirements and eligibility criteria to be met to be awarded. Universities in UK  are usually funded by the government. This means that, in some rare cases, as the funding is purely government based, the universities have very little leeway to offer monetary compensations that are available to disburse among students in the form of bursaries and scholarships. Regardless, there are many more universities that offer a certain number of awards to their enrolled students based on their merit and performance during the course.

There is a wide range of scholarships that are offered by individual departments within a university, but apart from these, there are many special awards available that are specific to students who  study in UK from India . These scholarships greatly assist students financially and are purely for Indian students.  Apart from these scholarships offered by universities, there is another important source of scholarships that are available to aspiring students. These include the British Government-sponsored awards like the Chevening Scholarship, Commonwealth Scholarship, DFID scholarship. These scholarships are extremely competitive, and the deadlines are much in advance before the start of the intake.

Scholarships For Biomedical Science in the UK Benefits

There are a lot of scholarships for biomedical science students who want to pursue their further studies in the UK. A few of the scholarships offered in the UK for Indian students in the biomedical science field are shown below:

This Blog Includes:

Ealing trailfinders rugby scholarship.

The goal of the Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club and the Trailfinders Rugby Academy is to identify and nurture the most talented and ambitious players to facilitate their educational path into professional rugby.

This rugby scholarship programme, created in partnership with Brunel University London, enables you to pursue a full-time rugby curriculum in addition to earning a degree that will prepare you academically for the rest of your life and help you pursue a professional rugby career.

Their scholarship plan provides bursaries and helps with tuition and living expenses at the institution. These numbers are fictitious and based on individual preferences.

UCL Graduate Research Scholarships

The goal of the UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) is to attract exceptional students to do research at UCL.

Prospective and present UCL research students from any nation are eligible to apply for UCL’s Graduate Research Scholarships (GRS) each year.

The UCL-RES fellowship consists of full tuition (either domestic or international) and an annual maintenance stipend that rises in line with inflation for the duration of the program’s research component. The full-time study rate for 2023–2024 is £20,622. For part-time students, the cost is determined “pro rata.” The rate for 2024–2025 needs to be verified.

  • For the course of the program’s research component, the scholarship also covers up to £1,200 in additional research expenses annually.
  • Awards are given for the standard duration of the study program’s research component. Subject to adequate academic progress, this is typically three years for a full-time MPhil, PhD, or EngD programme (or five years for part-time study). Please be aware that CRS/writing up the year(s) is not covered by the money.
  • The grant will be extended to the fourth year of research for students enrolled in integrated four-year PhD studies.

International Response Scholarship

Students who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programmes can apply for the International Response Scholarship.

The successful applicants will receive up to £200 for a single study bedroom in Goldsmiths residence halls, a full waiver of tuition fees for each year of study, and an allowance of £8,825.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships, which are intended for people who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK, are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, & Development Office (FCDO) and allow exceptional and motivated individuals to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable development.

  • Approved travel from the scholar’s home nation to the UK and back after the award; the CSC will not pay for the tickets of dependents or travel expenses incurred before the award’s confirmation.
  • Appropriated tuition: The CSC and the UK institution have an agreement covering the entire cost of tuition; scholars are not responsible for paying any portion of this amount.
  • A monthly living payment, or stipend.
  • Allowance for warm clothing, if appropriate.
  • Study travel grant to help pay for study-related domestic or international travel.

Chevening Awards

To offer many full scholarships for study on their one-year Masters programmes, Queen Mary collaborates closely with Chevening, the UK government’s international programme focused at creating global leaders. Except for students from the USA or the EU, the Chevening Awards are open to students of nearly every nationality.

  • Every Chevening award pays for all foreign tuition costs in addition to a stipend for living expenses, airfare, and other miscellaneous charges.
  • In addition, Chevening Scholars enjoy a year-long calendar of events designed to maximise their time in the UK and expose them to the greatest aspects of British culture.

Sanctuary Scholarships

For individuals who have sought refuge in the UK, such as students who have been displaced or impacted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a conflict in their native country, or for other reasons, the University of Sheffield offers Sanctuary Scholarships.

The ten fully-funded Sanctuary Scholarships provide a £9,840 award to support living expenses for each year of study in addition to covering the cost of tuition.

Clarendon scholarships

Typically, Clarendon scholarships are available for the entire duration of the fee requirement. This is the time frame during which you owe the university course costs.

When a course is known to take longer than expected, the academic division may decide to extend your scholarship to cover the extra time you need to complete it. Only living expenses are covered by the extension period; continuing fees are not. Should funding be extended, scholars will be informed via their offer letter.

  • Course costs are fully covered by Clarendon scholarships. Students with home and overseas fee status are touched by this.
  • Students enrolled full-time in courses will receive an annual living expense grant equivalent to the minimum rate of the Research Council doctorate stipend, which is often enough to support living expenses for one Oxford student.

Edinburgh Global Online Learning Masters Scholarship

Twelve scholarships will be available from the University of Edinburgh for its master’s degrees in distance learning.

Every scholarship will pay for all tuition costs and be awarded for the whole term of the academic programme.

School of Divinity Postgraduate Masters Scholarships

With great pleasure, the school is inviting deserving applicants to apply for a variety of Master’s scholarships.

  • There are several scholarships available that pay for tuition in full (at the UK, EU, and overseas rates). Additionally, partial prizes worth at least 50% of the tuition will be given out.
  • Your tuition money will be immediately subtracted from the awards.
  • Throughout their award, all recipients of scholarships are expected to be involved members of our postgraduate community and take advantage of opportunities to showcase their work to a larger student and staff audience.

Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development

One of Rotary’s six areas of focus—peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development—must be completed as part of the Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship Grants for Development.

  • A global grant scholarship has a minimum budget of $30,000, which can be used to pay for the following: travel expenses (as detailed in the grant terms and conditions), vaccinations, school supplies, tuition, room and board, household supplies, and language training programmes (but not if admission to a university is conditioned on improving language skills).
  • The majority of personal and other costs are not reimbursed by the scholarship funds.

MBA Types and Specialisations in the UK:

UK universities offer a variety of MBA programs to cater to diverse career goals. Here’s a glimpse into the two main categories:

Types of MBAs:

General MBA: This is a well-rounded option, perfect if you want a strong foundation in all areas of business. You’ll cover core subjects like finance, marketing, accounting, and leadership. This flexibility is ideal if you’re unsure of your exact career path or want to switch industries. It’s also a good choice if your undergraduate degree isn’t in business.

Executive MBA (EMBA): Designed for experienced professionals (often with 8+ years of work experience), EMBAs allow you to continue working full-time while pursuing your MBA. The classes are typically offered in intensive modules or on weekends. This format is especially attractive for Indian students who might need to balance their studies with existing work commitments back home.

Online MBA: This is a flexible option for students who can’t relocate to the UK for full-time studies. While online MBAs might not offer the same networking opportunities as on-campus programs, they can still be a valuable way to earn your qualification while staying in India.

Specialisations:

  • Finance: A popular choice for Indian students with a quantitative bent. Specialisation courses in investment banking, financial modelling, and risk management can open doors to lucrative careers in London’s financial district or other global financial hubs.
  • Marketing: Marketing offers a blend of creativity and analytical skills. Specialisations in areas like digital marketing, brand management, or market research can be a great fit for students who enjoy understanding consumer behaviour and developing targeted marketing strategies.
  • Entrepreneurship: The entrepreneurial spirit is strong in India! An MBA with an entrepreneurship specialisation can equip you with the skills and knowledge to launch your venture. You’ll learn about business planning, venture capital, and how to navigate the challenges of starting a new business.
  • Business Analytics: Data is king in today’s business world. This specialisation equips you with the skills to collect, analyse, and interpret data to drive better business decisions. This is a fast-growing field with excellent job prospects in the UK and globally.
  • International Management: The UK is a global hub for business, and this specialisation prepares you to navigate the complexities of international commerce. Courses in cross-cultural management, global strategy, and international trade can give you an edge in a competitive job market.

Remember: When choosing an MBA program and specialisation, consider your career goals, academic background, and work experience. Researching universities and talking to alumni can also be helpful in making your decision.
