The Introduction

In the introduction of your essay you will explain the point of the essay. This is where you give a brief statement about what you’re going to talk about, but you don’t want to get too in depth. You can start by explaining the issue and summarizing your opinion.

Paragraph 1

The first paragraph should be the strongest point that you have about your topic. This should be the most important part or the part that will support your view or opinion the best. You can choose to argue for or against something, but paragraph one needs to do it better than the other paragraphs.

Paragraph 2

The second paragraph should be your second strongest point about your topic. This will give a good method of support for your view, but it’s not as good as the one you made in the first paragraph. You will gradually give points that are less and less important.

Paragraph 3

If you have a third paragraph it will be the weakest of your arguments in support of your point. That doesn’t mean that it should be completely weak, but it will not be as strong as the first two that you made. You are not required to have three body paragraphs.

Wrap up everything that you’ve said throughout the essay. This is the paragraph where you will create a summary of the information you gave and why you stand behind your opinion or the main point of your essay. You need to be able to summarize the content in different words.

Writing using a good handwriting and typing properly are the two main ways in which students express their knowledge. In this view, some people believe, that students must put lot of effort to produce good handwriting, which helps them with proper presentation of their work. For example, a perfectly described answer written in a bad handwriting by a student, annoys the teacher completely as she has to struggle reading it, thus leading to poor grades. Thus, it is extremely important for students to have a good handwriting.

Secondly, few others believe, that students must not waste their time to improve their handwriting in this age of computers. Moreover, students must ensure to enhance their typing skills in order to progress fast in the current age. For example, a well-read student having a good handwriting, fails miserably when asked to type a report on his project in a limited time. Thus, in the current age, it is extremely important, for students to have a good command on the typing speeds and skills.

Let’s say I am writing about the use of technology in the classroom, then I can start my essay like below:

Technology in the classroom is an issue that teachers debate. While some teachers believe that it can be a distraction, others believe that it can be a useful tool. Personally, I believe that technology may distract students, but it can also help students if used in the right way.

In this introduction, my thesis statement is: Personally, I believe that technology may distract students, but it can also help students if used in the right way.

Body Paragraphs:

Now, divide the body of your essay into at least 2 body paragraphs. In each paragraph, try to write about the thesis statement in your introduction. As an example, if I am writing about using technology in classrooms and if my thesis statement is “Technology can be a distraction in the classroom but can also help students if used in the right way”, then my body paragraph can look like this:

“Many people believe that technology can be a distraction in the classroom. For teachers, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep up with all the new gadgets that are being created. For students, distractions from technology can lead to lower test scores and less interest in learning. It is important for schools to have a plan for the use of technology to avoid these distractions.”

The first point I made in the thesis statement is that “ technology may distract students”. Therefore, in this paragraph, I am talking about how technology can lead to distractions and what types of problems it may lead to.

Since my second point in the thesis statement is that it can also help students if used in the right way, my second body paragraph can be like this:

“However, technology is a powerful tool for many aspects of the learning experience. With technology, students can learn anytime, anywhere, and at their own pace. Students can explore deeper and more complex topics at their own level without the limitations of a teacher’s lesson plan. Students can also collaborate on group projects from across the globe with technology that allows them to work together face-to-face in real-time.”

The second point I made in the thesis statement is that “ it can also help students if used in the right way”. Therefore, in this paragraph, I am talking about how students can benefit from the use of technology in the classroom.

The conclusion is the final paragraph of an essay. It sums up what has been said, and it reinforces the main points. It should be short and to the point. Usually, the conclusion includes a re-statement of the thesis statement or a call for action.

In conclusion, technology can be a distraction in classrooms; however, it can also be a helpful tool. Overall, it is important to find a balance between the benefits of technology and the distractions of technology.

Now, you can see that I am concluding by restating my thesis statement as a summary of what I discussed in the body paragraph. It is important that you do no introduce any new ideas in the conclusion.

Tips for writing an Excellent PTE Essay

Find a good essay writing template.

There are many templates you can find online, but it is also important to have some that you have created. The only way an essay will be effective is if it is well-organized and thought out. The idea is to use a template that takes care of all the seven criteria of evaluation and you can focus on writing an essay that answers the question.

The other benefit of using templates while writing essays is that it will give you a clear outline of the structure and flow of your essay. The template enables you to write an essay that is amply structured and has fewer grammatical or lexical errors.

Learn to use your template and modify it according to the essay topics

It is important to know how to use your template and only then you can improvise on it when you are asked a that needs you to modify the template. The best way to learn how to use your template is to try writing an essay using the template for various types of questions.

Get a tutor to help you with your essay!

It is better to get the help of an experienced tutor or someone who has written essays for PTE before. He or she can help you with the structure of your essay and correct some mistakes that you may have made.

Invest a little time in planning your thoughts before you start writing your essay

In contrast, people who emphasize the importance of books are primarily focusing on the academic learning process. Nevertheless, this argument cannot hold water. For instance, an undergraduate with the good academic performance but not enough experience is unlikely to be employed by a company.

In a nutshell, due to the mentioned-above discussion, we can safely reach the conclusion that experiential learning plays a vital role in formal education and should not be discount. Despite the fact that learning from books is important, students should focus on putting their knowledge into real practice.

RIT students took home the Grand Prize at GameFest 2024 for developing the game 'Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword'. Some of the creators include, Twig Sheherlis, left, John Haley, and Amanda Rowe.

At RIT, award-winning student games spring up like mushrooms.

A team of students won the Grand Prize at GameFest 2024 for developing Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword . The platformer game follows Mica, a little mushroom on a journey to claim a powerful weapon and rescue its village after the residents are captured by a gigantic bird. A demo of the game is available on Steam , with a more complete game currently in development.

GameFest, held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in April, is an annual showcase of student talent in game development. The competition brings together students from around New York state and the Northeast to exhibit their games. Thirty-eight games were accepted this year.

“Since it’s a more public event and they only allow so many submissions to showcase their games, just getting in is a small success,” said John Haley, a third-year game design and development major who worked on Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword . “Winning the Grand Prize is a dream come true. Having all the work put into the game to make it a professional well rounded experience and being acknowledged for that work done is incredible.”

Ugly the Cat: Missiles and Mayhem was named a finalist at GameFest 2024. The RIT student-created game was made for a production studio course involving the PlayStation 5 dev kit.

Three other RIT student games were named finalists at the 2024 competition, including:

• Ninjas on Trampolines —finalist in the Excellence in Design, Stupid Fun (to Play) category.
• Value —finalist in the Excellence in Design category.
• Ugly the Cat: Missiles and Mayhem —finalist in the Technical Excellence category.

How did Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword grow?

The idea for Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword sprouted in 2022 from the Game Music Jam hosted by Berklee College of Music. For the collaborative jam, game developers were given one week to make a game. Then composers were randomly assigned to each game and given one week to make music for it.

The prototype for the game, called Sword of Morel , won the Game Music Jam. The original game creators included Haley; Twig Sheherlis, a third-year game design and development major; Amanda Rowe, a third-year game design and development major; Liam Armitage, a third-year game design and development major; Dariel Ravelo-Ramos, a third-year game design and development major; Tyler Samay, a third-year game design and development major; and Ethan Lin, a third-year computer engineering major. It also included music composition work from Florida Polytechnic University student Andrew Ptaszek and Berklee College of Music student Quinne Houck.

In the game, players meet Grandmashroom, who leads them to a mysterious temple to claim the Blade of Grass—a powerful weapon with the ability to pull Mica up ledges and over dangerous obstacles. Players take control of the sword that they can move in full 360-degree movement in order to climb up obstacles and ledges found throughout the game.

“It’s similar to games like Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy and Deepest Sword , but less rage inducing and more focused on fun mastery of the mechanic,” said Haley.

In Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword, players must time their jumps and angle the blade to overcome challenges and traverse a mystical world.

In 2023, the game was submitted and accepted into RIT’s MAGIC Maker Program , which provides students with the funding, studio space, and mentoring support to manage their own digital media projects and prepare them for publication and investment-readiness. The team’s goal was to have a demo completed by the end of the program. That demo won the GameFest 2024 Grand Prize.

“ Mushroom Kid’s Big Grass Sword has been an engaging and challenging experience in learning what it takes to attempt to take a game all the way,” said Haley. “Learning the financial, marketing, and publishing side of game development has been an interesting process and I am happy to do it with such fantastic team members.”

The core team of current game creators hope to make the complete game a reality and submit it to more competitions. They launched a Kickstarter to help create a full release of the game.
