What Role Should Business Play in Society?

  • Mariana Mazzucato

business role essay

Companies talk the talk of creating stakeholder value, but most don’t walk the talk. In this article, the author outlines two major reasons why — an insular financial sector and stock buybacks — and describes a new model for a truly symbiotic relationship among business, government, and citizens. For this model to succeed, business and government in particular need to address three key questions: What should we create? How should we evaluate social impact? And how should we share?

We must reconsider how value is created in capitalist economies.

The private sector is often considered to be the heart of wealth creation and innovation — the late 1990s and early 2000s success story of Silicon Valley being a prime example. In this model, shareholder value is seen as the ultimate measure of a company’s success. Indeed, the idea that businesses are the most productive actors in the economy has served as a convenient justification for high incomes and great wealth.

From articles on “Successful Wives of Successful Executives” to “Women Rising: The Unseen Barriers.”

Essay structure

An essay is a kind of paper that requires strict construction. To make it look good, read the information about what should each part contain and make sure you stick to it. It necessarily should contain the thesis statement, the body, the introduction and the conclusion.

Write the thesis statement

Your thesis statement illustrates the target audience your aspect of view about the subject and tells what your essay is about. It highlights your attitude towards the topic. The thesis statement is the first step in creating your essay and, probably, the most complicated. It has to interest the reader and make him want to read it till the end. If this part is vague or unclear, your paper will receive a low mark for being non-coherent.

Write the body

This is the main part of the writing, so it has to be very informative and contain some convincing argument. In other words, your thoughts have to support or refute some statements in order to explain your standpoint. For instance, if the topic of your paper is The role of business in a society of the United States, take a moment and realize what you think about it. Does it have a great impact on the economic and social life of citizens? Is the speed of its development is considered to be high, or it hasn’t changed at all for last decades. Your personal opinion counts a lot.

Write the introduction

Do you know some entertaining or even shocking information about corporations or trademarks that closely related to the subject of your essay? The facts from history can reinforce the impression from reading your paper. So, the introduction is the part where you generate the best and most striking idea on the role of business in society.

Write the conclusion

It’s a place where you put the summary of the words said before. Basically, the conclusion has to be short and relevant. Try not to use those phrases that have been used million times in other essays. Be authentic and bring your side of view to the readers in the form you think is most understandable.

Writing about the world of the business and its role in modern society is not an easy task. For completing this task, you have to know a lot on this subject and understand all the principles and rules. How to Write a Business Essay: an Ultimate Guide

Table of Contents

Writing an essay can be boring. A lot of essays are basically the same thing over and over again. You write an introduction, then you write your supporting paragraphs, and then you create a conclusion. Overall, the process is not a lot of fun, and you can often feel as though you are simply going through the motions for the sake of churning out extra work. But since you have to write an essay, it’s worth considering the many ways that you can make the process faster and easier. In this ultimate guide, we’ll discuss the best way to write a business essay so you can get through the process faster and with relatively little trouble.

A graphic of a man sitting behind a desk, writing, with the title text: "Business Essay Writing Guide"

It might seem obvious, but the first thing you need to do when you write an essay is to read the essay question. You need to be sure you understand each part of the essay question and how the parts of the question work together. You would be surprised how many students only glance at the question and then write a paper that only partially addresses the assignment. You don’t want to lose points because part of your paper isn’t on topic. If you find any parts of the paper that you don’t understand or that require explanation, be sure to contact your instructor for clarification before you start writing.

Read the essay rubric

These days, most essays have a grading rubric included with the question. A grading rubric is like a cheat sheet for writing your essay. When you review the essay rubric, you’ll see exactly how your instructor will grade your paper and what your instructor will be looking for. When you write your paper, you will therefore know exactly what to include and how to write about it in order to maximize your points—and you’ll also see what you can spend less time on because it won’t contribute to your overall grade.

Make friends with your library

Many students automatically turn to search engines like Google in order to research their papers, but this is not the most effective way to find high-quality business sources for your paper. Instead, take advantage of your library’s databases. Your college or university library will likely have dedicated business databases that collect high-quality academic articles on business topics. Using these resources in your paper will make your essay stronger and more effective, and it will put your paper on a solid academic footing.

Compile your sources before you write

Many students use the start-and-stop method to write their papers, composing a sentence or two and then stopping to look up more information in order to keep going. This, however, is an inefficient way to work. A better way is to read through your research sources before you start and copy into a separate file a series of quotations and facts that you might use in your paper, creating in-text citations and reference list entries for each before you start. Doing so will make sure that you don’t have to stop for research and have a ready bank of pre-cited material to work with as you write.

Outline before you write

Outlining is an important skill that will both save you time and improve the quality of your essay. Take time before you write to lay out your paper from beginning to end. Start with your thesis statement and carefully lay out the body paragraphs with a topic sentence, supporting details (including research, quotes, and citations ), and a closing paragraph . Plan your transitions to link paragraphs together. Any amount of outlining can be helpful, but the more effort that you put into outlining at this stage, the easier it will be to write your paper, and the less likely it will be that you get stuck in a tangent that goes nowhere or meander into a point that requires you to change your thesis and revise you whole essay.

Remember to revise and proofread

When you finish the draft of your paper, you aren’t done yet. The first draft is rarely the finished product. You should always set aside time to read your work back and to make revisions to make it clearer. You also need to carefully proofread for mechanical grammar, punctuation, and syntax issues to ensure that your paper is as close to perfect as possible. You don’t want to leave points on the table because your paper had easy to fix minor spelling or grammar errors.

Consider professional writing help

Another great way to get your paper done quickly is to seek out custom professional help from an essay writing service with academic experts. An online writing company such as this can create business papers for college students and deliver them fast. When you utilize professional writing assistance, you can receive a custom-written essay that can serve as a great model to help you understand how a professional would approach your business topic and organize and develop an essay to address your assignment. Using a model such as this can save you time and effort as you work on your own paper, allowing you to focus on the learning process more than the mechanics of academic essay writing.

Leadership Essay

27 August, 2020

Author:  Richard Pircher

As a college student, you must write essays on a regular basis since the latter is one of the most common types of home assignments. All this means is that in order to get good grades and be successful with writing the papers, you need to have a sound understanding of the structure. Additionally, what you should never neglect is the variety of essay types. Indeed, your essay will significantly differ from one type to another: description essay will most likely have a structure that is slightly different from an argumentative one.

Leadership Essays

What you may have already encountered in your academic life is the work on a leadership essay. Although it sounds pretty complicated and vague, it is mostly possible to master an essay on leadership. Below is a guide for you to get an insight into this particular essay type.

What is a good leadership essay?

A good leadership essay is the one in which the essay writer has fully covered the topic of leadership and understood its core ideas. More specifically, to end up with a flawless leadership essay, you will need to indicate what makes a person a good leader. For achieving the latter, you will most likely need to conduct research and trace how a particular person reaches his or her goals. In other words, the task is to discover which actions the person undertakes, what their followers say about him or her, and how the person organizes the work. So, a leadership essay implies providing real-life success examples and further revealing them.

Above all, a good leadership essay is the one that follows a precise, clear, comprehensive structure. Structuring your essay about leadership in the most coherent way leads to a win-win situation: you have fewer troubles and barriers to writing a brilliant essay, and your teacher is able to comprehend the essay easily. This guide is what you will need to refer to to get an insight into how the flawless structure for a leadership essay looks like and how it will let you take a benefit.

How to write a Leadership essay?

To write a leadership essay that stands out, you first need to brainstorm all the ideas that you have and come up with a topic for your essay. If you are struggling with this step, you may think of some of the most influential people, read about them, and find out what makes them unique. Or, you can pick any topic which is mentioned at the end of this article. After you have chosen an issue, it is time to structure your essay appropriately.

how to write a leadership essay example

As you already know, an essay constitutes three essential sections: introduction, main body, and conclusion. Below is the more detailed description of each of the parts.

Introduction

Of course, your leadership essay introduction will always vary depending on the topic of the essay. However, you can always begin by stating your vision of leadership regardless of the topic. Additionally, to motivate the reader and instantly catch his or her attention, you may use a quote of a famous leader, or simply a quote which you find relevant to the topic. Be aware that you should avoid outlining the essence and the role of the leadership in your introduction; leave it for the body paragraphs.

What you may also do in your leadership essay is ask a question, which will most likely intrigue the leader. Or it will at least give your reader an overview of what you will dwell on  in your essay.

Body Paragraphs

You will need to divide the main body into 3-5 paragraphs to make the structure more comprehensive. What you have to do at this point  is  give your reader a sound understanding of your ideas. Therefore, try to fit each idea in a single body paragraph so that you do not confuse your reader. Do not hesitate to indicate your examples to strengthen your arguments. For instance, you may explain a fact that makes a particular person you are writing about a real leader.

Also, always stick to your thesis statement and don’t forget that the body paragraphs should reveal the parts of your thesis statement.

As you may already know, you need to restate your opinion and briefly summarize all the points from the main body in conclusion. For instance, if you wrote your essay on qualities of an effective leader, state the most fundamental qualities and indicate why they matter the most. Besides, try not to copy what you have already written in the body – it is better to restate your opinion using different words. And, of course, beware adding any new and extra information; indicate only those points that you have already outlined in the text. Finally, keep in mind that it is always favorable to keep your concluding remarks short.

Leadership Essay Examples

Writing a leadership essay requires some research and time. In case you feel the necessity to go through an essay example, below is a leadership essay sample you can refer to.

Is leadership an inborn or an acquired feature?

Is everyone capable of becoming a leader, or is this ability innate? A lot of researchers have been struggling to answer this question. One assumption about leadership implies that the leader is the person who possesses particular characteristics. Another assumption claims that leaders are capable of acquiring specific features over their life span. As the evidence shows, leaders own many features that distinguish them among others and make more and more people become their followers. These might be cognitive abilities, psychological traits, professional qualities, and a lot more, and all of them will be either acquired or innate. Based on the importance of leadership qualities, such as commitment, stress resistance, and the ability to make quality decisions, it is reasonable to claim that leaders are made, not born.

One can deem commitment as one of the top fundamental qualities of the leader. In essence, such a feature indicates that a person is passionate about the common goal, strives to be a team player, and makes every effort to reach a shared goal. As the history shows, none of the successful companies was uncoordinated by an influential, committed leader: Apple, Amazon, Microsoft – all of these companies are examples of dominant teams led by a dedicated leader. A committed leader also inspires his or her team to achieve common goals and put more effort into the shared activity. Besides, commitment is unlikely to be an innate feature; it instead comes with experience. This is so, since commitment implies dedicating oneself to the shared task, and one can reach it only via learning and continuous self-improvement.

Stress resistance is another incredibly important feature that every good leader should possess. This is because only a stress-resistant leader has sufficient capabilities to overcome any complexity and not let the anxiety and stress prevent him or her from making proper decisions. Besides, such a leader will most likely have a positive influence on the team, as long as leading by example will motivate the team members to attain the same emotional stability. What is so far familiar about stress resistance as an effective leader’s feature is that it can be either innate or attained. However, although some researchers admit that emotional stability is something one is born with, it is not entirely true; many people still put a great effort into self-improvement, changing the attitude to unfortunate situations, and so on. Therefore, being resistant to stress can be mostly attributed to a personality.

An ability to make high-quality decisions most likely determines the chances for an enterprise’s success. In particular, such quality is incredibly fundamental for a company of any size and professional orientation. Additionally, it is one of the top tasks of a good leader to make final decisions. What he or she should do implies brainstorming, discussing various opinions in the group, making forecasts, analyzing all the pros and cons. However, the leader is the one to make a final decision. Thereby, he is in charge of researching the market, discovering all the hidden truths, and analyzing the organization’s potential and capabilities to result in the most effective decision. As it flows logically from the latter, an ability to make sound quality decisions is purely a professional quality. This leads to the conclusion that one has to work hard to become a genuine leader and master the skill of making effective decisions.

Overall, the leader may possess a multitude of different skills and master them perfectly. However, what has so far become transparent is that any leader, regardless of which team he leads, must possess three essential qualities. These qualities are commitment to the common goal, ability to handle and resist stress, and, finally, an ability to make effective decisions. All of the three qualities are most likely to be acquired over a lifetime. The statement below leads to the conclusion that even though some qualities can be innate, most are not the ones that leaders are born with. Hence, this answers an essential question: leadership feature is acquired, and not necessarily inborn.

ORDER PAPER LIKE THIS

The role of business in society is an issue that has been debated many times due to issues such as corporate social responsibility. However, I believe that the role of business in society is compound and ranges from supplying goods to improving the welfare of the society.

Supply of goods and services

I can say this is the main responsibility of the business in the society. The society has needs in terms of goods and services and businesses are, therefore, established with the sole purpose of meeting these needs and also to make profits. Businesses purchase goods from the society, take them through various processes to make a final product that will benefit the society in general. Such instances may include buying maize from farmers to produce maize flour and other products. In addition, companies do not just buy from farmers but also develop new products and innovations to ease the way of life in the society. This is best shown through use of machineries and social websites where people can communicate from any part of the world within seconds. Innovation will help the society lower costs enhance quality of products and ensure products and services are delivered quickly. This is best shown by Apple where people obtain technological products for communication and other uses. The products provided should be healthy so as not to compromise on the health of the society. A healthy society is important for productivity since business needs healthy individuals to work for them. The business should also be able to give people a choice in terms of goods provided. This is by providing diverse products in the market and various industries for consumers to specialize in their areas and pursue their interests. In addition, this should offer consumers a variety of areas where they want to eat, shop and what to buy.

Employment is another role of the business in the society since the society has human skills that are critical to businesses. These skills assist the business run its operations such as manufacturing, production among others. As a result, the members of the society employed earn incomes, pay taxes for development in the same society and also buy goods for daily consumption. The incomes earned will assist the society build wealth for future spending, assist the disadvantaged and hence meet various societal needs. In addition, businesses should provide a platform for young entrepreneurs who desire to be leaders in the future by being role models. The young people will later assist the society achieve some of its social needs such as clean water for healthy living.

Social Interactions

Businesses should offer the society a place to interact and socialize by sponsoring employees for abroad trips in order to understand each other and people better. Socialization will enhance peaceful coexistence; social-cultural interactions hence remove issues such as stereotyping.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Though corporate social responsibility is taken to be voluntary, I think it should be core for businesses to take it seriously. This is because, business, in addition to offering employment and goods to the society, also need to thank the society for peaceful coexistence. The society provides the environment around which the business operates. As such, businesses should let positives externalities trickle down to the society. This may be in the form of supply of water to the surrounding community for free. The society would find it difficult to disrupt the activities of a business that provides free services such as water. Moreover, the business should engage in sponsoring some activities of the society such as educating the disadvantaged or students for the poor backgrounds. This is because, the society employs human skills and some students from poor backgrounds are unable to offer these skills due to lack of education. By supporting education, the business is providing a platform for having adequate skills in the future for its continued success. Furthermore, businesses should be advocates of climate such as go green activities. These are campaigns geared towards encouraging people to use renewable sources of energy such as gas to avoid cutting down of trees. Trees assist in controlling issues such as soil erosion, cleaning of the air for healthy living and global warming. Such spearheading will bring awareness of the importance of conserving the environment for a better tomorrow. The environment being conserved will also benefit the businesses in return since there will be readily available materials for companies’ manufacturing processes. Such materials may include water as a result of conserving the environment. Moreover, businesses should be advocates for human rights such as freedom of expression. This is by encouraging effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining, following labor laws, having clear rules and principles of labor that forbid coercion and use of child labor to advance business interests. Also, this may one may be done by ensuring that there is no workplace discrimination based on gender, age, ethnicity among other forms of exploitation.

How HR chiefs went from ‘lepers’ to C-suite power players

Photo illustration of a row of black office chairs with a red and gold throne in the middle and a sign on it that reads "Reserved for CHRO."

Lisa Stevens took on an exciting new role in 2019: She became chief people officer at Aon , a professional services and management consulting firm with more than 50,000 workers across 120 countries.

It was her first time taking over an HR function, having previously come up through the ranks working for decades in business operations. Little did she know that a global pandemic was about to hit, sending society at large into total upheaval . Soon, she was tasked with figuring out how to transition an entire company to remote work , provide mental health support for employees, and make sure staff didn’t overtax themselves as work and personal time blended .

“We really moved from being 80% operational…into spending 60% of that time, if not more, on strategic initiatives,” she tells Fortune .

Stevens isn’t the only HR leader who has seen their job evolve since the COVID pandemic, as workforce and talent issues take on a new urgency for executives. C-suite leaders ranked “failure to attract or retain top talent” as the fourth-biggest risk facing organizations today, according to a recent survey. By comparison, that category didn’t even crack the top 10 in 2019.

HR was once considered a sleepy backwater of the C-suite, a lesser-than role akin to a paper-pushing hall monitor. But a combination of the pandemic , a period of social upheaval , and a tight labor market has coalesced to turn it into a new kind of powerhouse position, with CHROs wielding never-before-seen clout and importance in the C-suite.

“I think there may have been a bias against HR because of the perception that it is a softer field. And I think HR has come a long way in showing that that’s not the case,” Liana Passantino, a senior principal at Gartner’s human resources practice, tells Fortune . “HR and workforce issues have become a greater priority to CEOs, to boards, and to company strategy in recent years.”

How HR became a key player in the C-suite

CHROs weren’t always in the limelight. HR leaders have historically been some of the lowest-paid executives, excluded from the C-suite level, and relegated to focus on nonstrategic issues like payroll, hirings, firings, and benefits.

“Back when I was in HR, I remember I had a [fellow HR] colleague once who used to say, ‘We’re the lepers,’” says Mira Greenland, chief revenue officer at outplacement and career coaching firm INTOO. “Because it was a core cost center. Nobody wants to end up over in HR.”

But those days are over. Jennifer Wilson, who leads Heidrick & Struggles’s global human resources officers practice, says 2020 and 2021 were “record-breaking years” for hiring CHROs, as companies rushed to upgrade their people leaders during COVID and the racial reckoning that followed the murder of George Floyd in the U.S. She says demand hasn’t let up since.

“Every big issue on the CEO’s agenda, basically, is a people issue, and that has made the CHRO role more prominent,” she tells Fortune . “We’ve seen more work than ever for us in that sector.”

CHRO salaries have skyrocketed, and around 13% of HR executives at S&P 1500 companies were among the top five highest-paid C-suite positions at their organizations in 2022, up from 0.5% in 1992. Some CHROs now earn as much as $8 million annually. And many HR leaders are becoming CEOs in their own right, with General Motors chief executive Mary Barra serving as the most famous example of an HR head taking the top job.

“Good companies always highly valued HR and gave them a place at the table. Other companies may be coming to that or are being forced to come to it,” says Andy Gold, CHRO of enterprise shipping firm Pitney Bowes . “HR really does help drive business results.”

Those changes follow a fundamental evolution of the role itself over the past few years. Once considered purely operational, the CHRO role has taken on new strategic responsibilities and expanded within an organization.

“During COVID, many HR leaders became part of cross-functional teams to respond to this evolving situation,” says Passantino . “That has elevated their position and, maybe to some extent, the connections with other functions like finance, real estate, IT, and so on.”

The rise of remote work forced HR departments to figure out how to build connections virtually , quickly followed by navigating bringing workers back into the office without alienating the entire company. DEI initiatives also took center stage , sending companies scrambling to reevaluate what programs they have to champion and support diverse talent. The labor market upheaval over the past few years, often called the Great Resignation, forced organizations to become more competitive than ever with their hiring strategies and put HR on the front line of that battle. And there was also an increased emphasis on employee well-being, as more workers experienced mental health concerns and loneliness. That led to spending money on new benefits, training managers to spot mental health concerns among their employees, and coaching leaders to talk about their own well-being.

“You see more analytics and business strategy being applied,” says Tom Wilson, managing director at Frederickson Partners, an executive search firm. It’s not just that HR is kind of the fun crew, organizing picnics and engagement surveys. They’re doing real, proper business work.”

The emergence of AI technology over the past few years has only propelled the HR function to new heights and solidified its place in the C-suite. CHROs are leveraging technology in more innovative ways and planning how companies can save costs and rethink the workforce of the future. AI wasn’t a topic that HR discussed a few years ago, Steve Patscot, leader of Spencer Stuart’s human resources practice, says. But that’s also changed.

“Not only do you have to think about it as a vehicle for transforming your function, but it’s how it’s transforming your entire workforce and your culture, and the employment implications of that,” he says.

Will CHROs be able to hold onto their new power?

HR is more elite than ever, but it still has a long way to go before it’s considered a permanent key player in the C-suite.

Many CHROs remain dramatically underpaid compared to their C-suite counterparts—a phenomenon likely driven in part by the fact it’s one of the few C-suite roles that are held mostly by women. While S&P 500 COOs were paid $7 million annually on average in 2022, and CFOs made $6 million, HR chiefs earned just $4.2 million, according to an analysis of executive compensation data from Morningstar. And despite making gains in the boardroom , it’s estimated that fewer than 40 HR leaders serve as directors of Fortune 500 companies.

“For a long time, people talked about, ‘HR needs a seat at the table.’ That was the expression for so long,” says Passantino. “You’ve got that seat now. What are you gonna do with it? How do you keep it? How do you prevent HR from becoming less important again?”

For CHROs to keep their new status moving forward, they must ensure that their organizations don’t put talent strategy on the back burner again, and Patscot says there are three factors that HR’s continued ascendance depends on to keep going. The first is that CEOs continue to demand more from the function and recognize its importance and value. Secondly, HR leaders must continue to grow, learn new aspects of business, and figure out how to add to the organization in new ways. And third, CHROs must deliver on their promise of an AI transformation. All of this won’t be an easy lift, and many people think HR “hasn’t fulfilled its end of the bargain to be a true strategic partner,” Patscot says.

“If you took a survey of who thinks HR is blowing it away right now, I think the results would be reasonably mixed,” he adds. “Because the expectations are so different and so high from so many constituents.”

The path of the CHRO is also more fraught than other C-suite positions right now, stuck in the middle as CEOs and workers duke it out over return-to-office mandates , employee expectations around pay and benefits, and unionization efforts . As a result, HR faces high expectations from multiple stakeholders and could easily be considered a failure by any one of them.

“Some people continue to have a pretty narrow definition of what HR is and what it should be,” says Patscot. “And that’s, you know, a little disappointing.”

PANAMA CITY (AP) — Panama’s Supreme Court rejected a constitutional challenge to the candidacy of leading presidential contender José Raúl Mulino on Friday, removing an element of uncertainty two days before the May 5 vote.

The court was ruling on a challenge from lawyer Karisma Etienne Karamañites, who argued that Mulino was not eligible because he had not been selected through a primary by the Achieving Goals party of former president Ricardo Martinelli.

Magistrate María Eugenia López, the Supreme Court’s president, read a statement on behalf of the court Friday, noting that there had been eight votes to reject the constitutional challenge and one dissent.

“What has moved this constitutional tribunal in the historic moment in which we find ourselves is the defense of our country and democracy, as well as institutionality, social peace, the right to elect and to be elected, political pluralism, and let’s not forget the important role played by the political parties,” she said.

Panama’s Electoral Tribunal in March barred Martinelli from standing , cutting short his attempted political revival, because he had been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for money laundering. Panama’s constitution bars anyone sentenced to five years or more for a crime from holding elected office.

When Martinelli was blocked, Mulino, a 64-year-old maritime lawyer and former security minister, instantly became the frontrunner, despite not having Martinelli’s charisma or popular appeal.

Martinelli has campaigned for his former running mate from inside the walls of Nicaragua’s embassy, where he took refuge in February after receiving political asylum from that government.

With Mulino still in the race, seven candidates will compete in Sunday’s election.

Another candidate, Melitón Arrocha, who had been trailing in polls, announced he would end his campaign and throw his support to ex-President Martín Torrijos.

business role essay

The Role of the Business Communication Essay

Introduction.

Communication is important in people’s lives, as it is a mean of exchanging information from one person to another (Kushal, n.d, pp 1). In business, communication is necessary, as it plays a role in negotiation between an entrepreneur and the customer, and between the distributor and the entrepreneurs, among others.

Therefore, business communication involves flow of information, which requires feedback. In an organization, communication may flow through various channels, hence contributing to controlling and directing employees. Communication involves feedback, thus avoiding any misunderstanding and it contributes to effective transfer of messages from one party to another.

An organization has the duty of communicating its rules and regulation to the employees. Business communication has also changed with the trends in technology.

In the early years, communication was evident in terms of paper work and telephone calls; however, today, communication has expanded to video conferencing, emails, cell phones and satellite, all of which have led to effective communication. Business communication can be divided in to two – oral communication (which can be formal and informal) and written communication. Normally, formal communication involves interviews, meetings, discussions, and speeches, while informal involves grapevine.

Verbal communication has been evident for generations and it creates a high level of understanding, and feedback is immediate, thus contributing to quick decision-making. However, this method faces the challenge of language barrier due to the many existing nationalities.

Nevertheless, verbal communication is commonly evident in interviews, telephone conversations, and video conferencing. The second type of business communication is written communication, which incorporates, reports, and agendas among others (Management study guide, n.d).

Current types of business communication range from the use of internet, video conferencing, teleconferencing to the use of emails. Effective communication is an important tool to any business and organization, as it contributes to efficiency at the place of work in terms of getting tasks accomplished within the required time.

According to Kushal (n.d, p1), “without communication, uniformity in the business activities cannot be brought about.” Therefore, business communication is a type of communication that contributes to meeting the organization’s needs.

The role of business communication in daily activities at my workplace, and its current trends.

Communication is very important at the workplace and it can vary from oral to written communication. Generally, it contributes greatly to the organizations’ activities; hence, every employee is required to have effective communication skills when addressing customers and his fellow employees.

In addition, good communication skills contribute to resolving issues very fast, thus avoiding delays. In my line of work as a human resource assistant, communication is very effective as my job entails communication with the staff. This takes place in form of emails, phone and video conferencing.

When my manager is out of the country, video conferencing and emails have proven to be effective in ensuring that communication takes place. My boss is able to communicate quality and urgent information to me, which in return is communicated to the rest of the staff through the phone or via email. Some of my daily activities involve updating Medicare accounts for the staff, updating information about their leaves, reviewing their payroll, and renewing contracts among other tasks.

All these tasks require the use of internet or phone. In addition, when I need to pass an important notice throughout the department, written communication is applicable, which involves notices and memorandums. Therefore, in my workplace, it is a requirement for all employees to be at par with the advancement in technology in order to be capable of operating computer programmes such as emails.

Business communication is efficient, as it assists me in sharing important information to the rest of the staff on time, especially through the internet; therefore, delay in information is not evident in my organization due to the many modes of communication available. In addition, communication contributes to the internal and external functions at the workplace. Internal functions include communication within the organization that contributes to employees’ job satisfaction and increase productivity, thus decreasing the levels of turnovers.

This is evident, as the management ensures that information is available to employees on time, about how they are required to perform a certain task and the terms of rewards when the job is completed. Employees are thus motivated due to the information communicated. The external function of business communication occurs when our staff relates with the outside environment, such as the customers, whom our organization works hard to please through delivering quality services.

The current trend at my workplace is cloud computing that involves the use of computers and internet in order to enhance communication. This trend has proven sufficient in the organization as it involves a large number of services, such as Google, yahoo, face book, twitter, and MySpace among others. Such services have led to instant messaging through chats, for instance, in yahoo and g-mail, therefore providing the staff with urgent and instant messages in which they provide an instant feedback.

The impact is contribution to effective communication of urgent information without having to post a letter. Video conferencing is also evident in the workplace, whereby, a manager is able to address his staff on an important matter, and he can actually see the staff he is addressing via the aid of a webcam. Therefore, work is becoming paperless at the place of work, as emails are replacing memorandums and minutes of workplace meetings.

Monge and Desanctis (2008) describes electronic communication as a link to distance, cultures, organizations, and the departments within them, hence responding to the customers’ demands fast. Electronic communication therefore comprises of emails, and teleconferencing among others.

However, information must be communicated effectively in order to enhance understanding, as is the case of face-to-face communication. With the changing technology, business communication has also changed and adopted new type of communication, such as internets, which have yielded to instant messaging like chat messages and instant feedbacks; as opposed to a letter that requires time before the sender can get a reply, as it has to go through the process of posting.

In any business, professionalism is highly regarded, as it is the key to attracting customers. in this case, customers are confident on the information on the services and products offered. Therefore, business communication aids in sharing information on every crucial matter, thus ensuring that the matter has been attended to promptly.

Business communication modes include electronic communication, written communication, verbal communication, and non-verbal communication. In spite of the used type of business communication, how well the message is communicated is what makes a difference, since when a message is conveyed wrongly, it could cost the organization a lot. Therefore, organizations should make sure that their employees acquire quality communication skills, to avoid errors either in typing, writing, or verbally.

Meet Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky's kids, all of whom had roles in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'

  • Actors Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky, who have been married since 2010, have three children.
  • Their eldest child, a daughter named India Rose, starred alongside Hemsworth in "Thor: Love and Thunder."
  • The couple also has twin boys named Sasha and Tristan.

Insider Today

Chris Hemsworth is known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his kids are unfazed by his A-lister status.

"I guess it's just normal for them," Hemsworth told Entertainment Tonight in 2022 of the children joining him on the set of the fourth "Thor" film. "They come on set and they get excited for a couple of minutes and then they realize it's a pretty boring process."

Hemsworth and fellow actor Elsa Pataky, who have been married since 2010, have three children together: a daughter and twin sons. Photos and videos of the kids regularly appear on their Instagram profiles, whether they're celebrating birthdays or going on vacations.

Most recently, Pataky and their sons supported Hemsworth at the world premiere of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" in Sydney.

Here's everything to know about Hemsworth and Pataky's family.

Their eldest child, daughter India Rose Hemsworth, 11, made her acting debut in 'Thor: Love and Thunder'

India was born on May 11, 2012.

"It was just a name we liked," Hemsworth told E! News of him and Pataky choosing their firstborn's name. "I always kind of liked Indie or Indiana for a boy and she liked India. We sorta went, 'Oh well, whether it's a boy or girl that will decide.' It just seemed to fit."

India starred alongside her father in " Thor: Love and Thunder ," the fourth film in the stand-alone "Thor" franchise.

In the film, she plays Love, the daughter of the villain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). At the end of the 2022 movie, after Gorr's death, Thor adopts her and the two go off on adventures as the duo Love and Thunder.

Hemsworth told Entertainment Tonight that she was supposed to have a minor role in the film, but took on a more pivotal role when the story changed. The actor said that India enjoyed the experience, but he's not pushing her into more acting roles.

"I want her to have a childhood, and I think so does she," he said.

Twin boys Sasha and Tristan Hemsworth are 10 years old

They were born on March 19, 2014. Hemsworth recently told Vanity Fair that Tristan's name was inspired by Tristan Ludlow, Brad Pitt's character in the 1994 drama "Legends of the Fall." Sasha was named after a stuntman friend of the actor.

Like Pataky and India , the twins also had roles in "Thor: Love and Thunder." Tristan briefly played young Thor early in the film and Sasha had a cameo as an Asgardian child.

"It felt like a fun, one-off family experience," Hemsworth told reporter Kevin McCarthy . "I don't want them to now go and be child stars and actors. It was just a special experience we all had and I loved it. They had a great time."
