Online schools in the Philippines

Online-Schools-Philippines

As years go by, the idea of what higher education looks like slowly evolves beyond the four walls of a classroom. Nowadays, health crisis or not, it’s possible to earn your degree entirely online through open universities, which offer programs specially designed for distance education.

If you’re working full-time or if traditional face-to-face learning does not suit your needs and circumstances, then enrolling at an online school in the Philippines can be a fantastic option to continue your education.

Table of Contents

Degree program offerings, mode of teaching, learning environment, student support, polytechnic university of the philippines open university, university of the philippines open university, online education from ama university, cap college foundation, asian institute for distance education, benguet state university open university, central luzon state university distance, open, and transnational university, visayas state university open university, new era university online education, mapua malayan digital college, convenience, flexibility, reduced costs, lifelong learning, what should i look for in an online school/university/college.

An open university’s reputation is usually derived from its years of operation. Generally speaking, well-established online schools tend to provide education of higher quality because they have years of experience in offering virtual learning. They already have reliable systems in place and are well-adapted to the online mode of teaching.

You should choose an online school that offers a degree program that you are interested in and will help you in advancing your career. Most open universities offer online degrees in information technology, business administration, and education. Some schools also offer degrees in liberal arts and the sciences, such as psychology, journalism, and political science.

You should also consider the degree level that you’re going to pursue. Some open universities focus their attention on postgraduate degrees, while some offer college education and only confer baccalaureate degrees. Some schools also have diploma and certificate programs, which may also be ladderized to a higher degree.

Online-Colleges-Philippines

While open universities usually hold their classes primarily online, some also require occasional face-to-face sessions for immersion or mentorship purposes. Thoroughly inquire with the university about how they implement their classes and ensure that it has the flexibility that fits with your needs and schedule.

Because most, if not all, of your classes will be held online, the open university must have reliable learning management systems in place that support your learning. What type of learning materials will be provided? How will these be delivered to you? How will you communicate with your professor and classmates?

A good open university has a learning ecosystem that is rich, interconnected, and easy to navigate. There must also be a wide selection of educational resources made available and easily accessible.

Studying at an online university comes with its own unique challenges, so the school must have systems and services that can provide assistance and support for its students. It must have a responsive hotline where students can readily ask questions or air grievances.

Some online schools provide a laptop and pocket WiFi to make sure all students have internet connectivity. Some also have scholarship opportunities to aid those who may have financial constraints.

For emotional support, some open universities have thriving online communities where students can join clubs and organize events. Some schools also have a dedicated career center that aids their students to find employment after graduation.

What are the advantages of online schooling?

While studying for a traditional degree would usually require you to take a leave from your job to go to school, enrolling at an open university allows you to balance your work and education, and still have time to spare to pursue your other passions.

Gone are the days of commuting to school and wasting precious hours stuck in traffic. Pursuing an online degree lets you make the most out of your time and energy.

Online-Universities-Philippines

For some of us, the four walls of a classroom and an 8AM to 5PM schedule may not be the most conducive conditions for learning. With online schooling, you can bring your coursework to your couch, to a cafe, or even to the beach. You get to study on your own terms, and you get to decide where, when, and how you study.

With online schooling, you only pay for the essentials like tuition fees, a few miscellaneous fees, and your internet bill. In the long run, you get to save thousands of pesos by avoiding the costs of daily transportation and nearby housing.

You also don’t have to put your career on hold if you pursue an online degree. This could translate to being more desirable in the workforce and earning that promotion much earlier than if you had to take a leave from work.

Open universities make education much more accessible and feasible, no matter what stage you are in your life. You can be a fresh graduate eager to gain new skills, or a full-time worker in your 30s planning to change careers. You can be a senior wanting to learn new things even in your retirement.

Open universities are open to anyone who wants to continue their education beyond traditional methods and who carries the philosophy of lifelong learning.

It’s good that now many schools have started teaching online, I even thought that this is a safer option especially during covid-19. I kept waiting for my Lutheran school to be in this format

Doctor in Sustainability

Program description.

The Doctor in Sustainability (DSus) is a professional doctorate program that aims to produce graduates who can develop research-based solutions to persistent sustainability challenges. It will address the need for professionals with advanced academic training who are expected to develop transformative research approaches to address wicked problems based on practical issues in their profession.  The threats and complex challenges that human society is facing now calls for a pluridisciplinary approach that transcends  traditional solutions, promotes intersectoral cooperation and collaboration and takes on intergenerational equity perspectives.

The DSus will marry the theoretical frameworks from academic community and the practical knowledge and experiences drawn from the field and work-base setting and with enough flexibility to strengthen the students’ proficiency in the pillars of sustainability — economic, social, and environmental. By providing a shared learning environment for the practitioners and academics working on sustainability, this program shall allow for co-design and co-creation of knowledge that promotes partnerships and collaborative action not only in academic courses but also in actual application in the field through their dissertation.

The program aims to produce graduates who:

  • have a clear grasp of sustainability worldviews;
  • can make sense and anticipate complex problems;
  • develop innovative, participatory and research-based solutions to problems which do not seem to have obvious optimal solutions using pluridisciplinary approaches;
  • link and apply use-inspired knowledge in adaptive settings;
  • have the strategic competence to manage transitions by designing, facilitating and implementing interventions and transformative strategies; and
  • cognizant of the relationships across systems scales and their implications to intergenerational equity

The program aims to produce professional doctorates who are: analyst, facilitator, communicator, integrator, negotiator, and translator of pluridisciplinary perspectives and is designed to accommodate different disciplines, philosophies of science and methodologies, as long as these lead to innovative solutions that can contribute to a transition of societal, institutional and regulatory structures towards sustainability.

Program Goals

The Doctor in Sustainability program aims to develop graduates who are able to:

  • Demonstrate highly advanced systematic  knowledge and skills in highly specialized and/or complex interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary field of learning;
  • Utilize of complex research/creative work and/or professional practice and/or the advancement of learning with full independence in individual work and/or in teams of interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary setting;
  • Apply a more complex setting that demands leadership in research and creative work with strategic value added; and
  • Apply a significant level of expertise-based autonomy and accountability to professional leadership for innovation, research, and/or development management in highly specialized or interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary fields.
  • Evaluate the complexity of sustainability issues and challenges in institutional, local, national, regional and global settings from the lenses of sustainability concepts and frameworks;
  • Design pluridisciplinary, intersectoral, and intergenerational equity-informed sustainability frameworks, models and systems that can be used in analyzing and evaluating actual scenarios, managing transitioning to sustainability and developing sustainability transition pathways
  • Generate transformative, innovative and context-based solutions and  institutional support systems  in addressing a wide range of wicked and complex global societal and environmental challenges;
  • Demonstrate advanced leadership in professional sustainability research settings through management of pluridisciplinary teams, informed, reflective, and participatory decision making, and collaborative partnerships.

COURSE INFORMATION

The context of business and management has undergone rapid and profound changes within the last decade. No longer can the study of business and management be confined to the functional and technical areas, as was the tendency in the past. Moreover, business and management practitioners must now manage and be accountable for the substantial impact of their activities not only on internal members, financial stakeholders and customers, but also on members of the immediate community, on society as a whole, and on the environment. There is an urgent need to advance the state of business and management knowledge to reflect these new realities.

Aware of these developments and guided by Lasallian values, De La Salle University aims for the creation and dissemination of practice-oriented management knowledge that will help uplift society. In pursuit of this mission, the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Program is designed to advance the professional development of practicing managers, entrepreneurs, management academics and other professionals in the business and public management arena by: expanding their knowledge and perspectives in critical areas of management related to promoting humanistic, socially responsible and sustainable business; and equipping them with research and change management skills.

Anchored on SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The goal is to produce the Lasallian DBA – a practice-oriented management scholar who is able to source, assimilate, evaluate, create, disseminate and apply management knowledge guided by humanistic and ethical values.

The DBA Program involves intensive coursework (36 units) and dissertation writing (12 units), which may be completed in a minimum of three years or a maximum of ten years. Applicants should possess an MBA degree or an equivalent Master’s degree in business or management.

Applicants holding a Master’s degree without a substantial management and research component may be required to demonstrate competence or complete coursework in the following areas; Business Ethics, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Organization Behavior, or Strategic Management.

Applicants must have at least 3 years management experience (responsibility for planning and achieving goals, budget allocation and personnel decisions) and at least 5 years of work experience.
