essay about science in everyday life

Understanding Science

How science REALLY works...

  • Understanding Science 101
  • Scientific findings frequently benefit society through technological and other innovations.
  • Technological innovations may lead to new scientific breakthroughs.
  • Some scientists are motivated by potential applications of their research.

Benefits of science

The process of science is a way of building knowledge about the universe — constructing new ideas that illuminate the world around us. Those ideas are inherently tentative, but as they cycle through the process of science again and again and are tested and retested in different ways, we become increasingly confident in them. Furthermore, through this same iterative process, ideas are modified, expanded, and combined into more powerful explanations. For example, a few observations about inheritance patterns in garden peas can — over many years and through the work of many different scientists — be built into the broad understanding of genetics offered by science today. So although the process of science is iterative, ideas do not churn through it repetitively. Instead, the cycle actively serves to construct and integrate scientific knowledge.

And that knowledge is useful for all sorts of things: designing bridges, slowing climate change, and prompting frequent hand washing during flu season. Scientific knowledge allows us to develop new technologies , solve practical problems, and make informed decisions — both individually and collectively. Because its products are so useful, the process of science is intertwined with those applications:

  • New scientific knowledge may lead to new applications. For example, the discovery of the structure of DNA was a fundamental breakthrough in biology. It formed the underpinnings of research that would ultimately lead to a wide variety of practical applications, including DNA fingerprinting, genetically engineered crops, and tests for genetic diseases.
  • New technological advances may lead to new scientific discoveries. For example, developing DNA copying and sequencing technologies has led to important breakthroughs in many areas of biology, especially in the reconstruction of the evolutionary relationships among organisms.
  • Potential applications may motivate scientific investigations. For example, the possibility of engineering microorganisms to cheaply produce drugs for diseases like malaria motivates many researchers in the field to continue their studies of microbe genetics.

The process of science and you

This flowchart represents the process of formal science, but in fact, many aspects of this process are relevant to everyone and can be used in your everyday life. Sure, some elements of the process really only apply to formal science (e.g., publication, feedback from the scientific community), but others are widely applicable to everyday situations (e.g., asking questions, gathering evidence, solving practical problems). Understanding the process of science can help anyone develop a scientific outlook on life.

Science writing and new media: science writing for the public, the science of everyday life.

This short, informal essay gives you a chance to satisfy your curiosity about the science of something close at hand, while at the same time practicing writing clear explanations and engaging your audience.

  • Class #3 : Proposal Due
  • Class #4 : Rough Draft Due, Workshop
  • Class #5 : Group Member Responses Due
  • Class #7 : Revised Essay Due

Instructions

Here’s an opportunity to satisfy your curiosity about the science of something close at hand, something we encounter every day but to which most of us are blissfully oblivious. Write a short essay on an aspect of “everyday” science or technology that you would enjoy sharing with readers. Though you will have to do some research, this is not meant to be written as a research essay. You will keep quotes to a minimum and mostly summarize or paraphrase your sources, just as if you were writing for a general interest magazine.

Some possible topics:

  • How my guitar or cello makes music…
  • How my bicycle, DVR, or contact lenses work…
  • Chemistry of making bread, or grilling steak…
  • Why my dog likes to play catch; why my canary sings…
  • Materials engineering or physics of my tennis racket, Razor scooter, skateboard…
  • Why hurricanes or tornadoes occur when & where they do…
  • A scientific principle…

This essay must be accurate and clear, but that’s just the beginning. You aren’t writing a technical manual but, rather, an informal essay. So you must fascinate your reader, keep her or him reading, convince them that your topic matters. Some suggestions:

  • Begin by choosing a topic that genuinely interests you. If you aren’t interested, your reader won’t be, either.
  • Form a question or a series of questions about your topic to make your research efficient and to give your essay a shape. For example, Why does barbecued meat taste so good? What makes it taste different than meat cooked on a stove? or What allows my watch to tell time accurately? What makes it waterproof? Why are there so many puffy white clouds on summer days?
  • Note that you aren’t writing a history of the science or technology involved—you are explaining how something works.
  • As you write your essay, aim to present your information in a way that makes it easy for the reader to follow.
  • To make your subject easier to grasp and to interest readers, you’ll probably want to begin your essay with an anecdote or a problem from personal experience. You may continue to use personal experience in your essay if it helps you relate your ideas to readers. You may also find metaphors or analogies useful in explaining your topic.

Using sources: When you draw on sources for your essay, you must use your own language, not theirs. If you cannot summarize or paraphrase (i.e., significantly change the wording) then use quotation marks and name the source in your text. For example: As the Engineering Handbook notes, tensile strength “is best defined as…” DO NOT, however, use lengthy quotations—they will spoil the tone and rhythm of your essay.

Revising Your Essay

  • Re-read all the comments you’ve received on your Science of Everyday Life essay, from classmates & instructor, and any notes you made.
  • Re-read your essay, with the notes in mind.
  • Consider: To revise means literally (etymologically) to “re-see”—to take stock of your essay’s meaning and its possibilities, and to do what it takes to achieve meaning for yourself, and meaning and pleasure in reading for your audience. So aim to re-see your essay and its potential. Don’t limit yourself to making line edits (copy editing): by itself, that’s not revision.
  • Think especially about shaping your essay, so that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. And about clarity: that’s key to the success of this kind of essay.

Make sure to hand in your first drafts—the ones with comments—along with your new one. Also respond to these questions and hand in with your draft:

  • What has changed in this draft? Please point to specific things.
  • What’s the main focus in this draft?
  • What do you like best about this essay?

Requirements

  • 3–4 pp. double-spaced (1000–1250 words)

Science and Technology: Impact on Human Life Essay

Introduction, part i: science in personal and professional life, part ii: science and technology in a multicultural world.

Science plays an important role in everyday life, and people depend on technologies in a variety of ways by creating, using, and improving them regularly. Sometimes, a person hardly notes how inevitable the impact of science can be on personal or professional life. Evaluating such technologies as the Internet, smartphones, notebooks, smartwatches, and brain-medicine interfaces helps recognize their positive and negative outcomes compared to the period when traditional lifestyles and natural resources like ginger were highly appreciated.

Most people are confident in their independence and neglect multiple technologies that determine their lives. During the last 25 years, technology has dramatically changed human interactions (Muslin, 2020). In addition to domestic technological discoveries like washing machines and stoves, four technologies, namely, the Internet, smartphones, notebooks, and smartwatches, are used throughout the day. Despite their evident advantages in communication, data exchange, and connection, some negative impacts should not be ignored.

Regarding my personal life changes, these technologies provoke mental health changes such as depression. I prefer to avoid my dependence on all these technologies that imperceptibly shape everyday activities. However, I constantly check my vitals, messengers, and calls not to miss something important. On the one hand, this idea of control helps improve my life and makes it logical. On the other hand, I am concerned about such relationships with technologies in my life. Similar negative impacts on society emerge when people prefer to communicate virtually instead of paying attention to reality. Technologies compromise social relationships because individuals are eager to choose something easier that requires less movement or participation, neglecting their unique chances to live a real life. They also challenge even the environment because either smartwatches or notebooks need energy that is associated with air pollution, climate change, and other harmful emissions (Trefil & Hazen, 2016). Modern technologies facilitate human life, but health, social, and environmental outcomes remain dangerous.

Thinking about my day, I cannot imagine another scientific discovery that makes this life possible except the Internet. Today, more devices have become connected to the Internet, including cars, appliances, and personal computers (Thompson, 2016). With time, people get an opportunity to use the Internet for multiple purposes to store their personal information, business documentation, music, and other files that have a meaning in their lives. The Internet defines the quality of human relationships, starting with healthcare data about a child and ending with online photos after the person’s death.

Although the Internet was invented at the end of the 1980s, this technology was implemented for everyday use in the middle of the 1990s. All people admired such possibilities as a connection across the globe, increased job opportunities, regular information flows, a variety of choices, online purchases, and good education opportunities (Olenski, 2018). It was a true belief that the Internet made society free from real-life boundaries and limitations. However, with time, its negative sides were revealed, including decreased face-to-face engagement, laziness, and the promotion of inappropriate content (Olenski, 2018). When people prefer their virtual achievements and progress but forget about real obligations like parenting, education, or keeping a healthy lifestyle, the Internet is no longer a positive scientific discovery but a serious problem.

Many discussions are developed to identify the overall impact of the Internet as a major scientific discovery. Modern people cannot imagine a day without using the Internet for working, educational, or personal purposes. However, when online life becomes someone’s obsession, the negatives prevail over its positives. Therefore, the human factor and real-life preferences should always be recognized and promoted. During the pandemic, the Internet is a priceless contribution that helps deal with isolation and mental health challenges. Some people cannot reach each other because of family issues or business trips, and the Internet is the only reliable and permanent means of connection. Thus, such positives overweight the negatives overall if everything is used rationally.

The Internet makes it possible for healthcare providers to exchange their knowledge and experiences from different parts of the world. This possibility explains the spread of the westernized high-tech research approach to medical treatment and the promotion of science in a multicultural care world. Biomedical research changes the way how people are diagnosed and treated. Recent genomic discoveries help predict the possibility of cancer and human predisposition to other incurable diseases to improve awareness of health conditions. The benefit of new brain-interface technologies (BMI) is life improvement for disabled people to move their prosthetics easily (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016). Instead of staying passive, individuals use smart technology to hold subjects, open doors, and receive calls. BMI has a high price, but its impact is priceless. At the same time, some risks of high-tech research exist in medical treatment. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (2016) underlines damaged neurons and fibers depend on what drugs are delivered to the system and how. The transmission of electrical signals is not always stable, and the safety of BMI processes is hardly guaranteed.

Some populations reject technologies in medical treatment and prefer to use natural resources to stabilize their health. For example, ginger is characterized by several positive clinical applications in China. Researchers believe that this type of alternative medicine effectively manages nausea, vomiting, and dizziness (Anh et al., 2020). Its major advantage is reported by pregnant patients who use ginger to predict morning sickness, unnecessary inflammation, and nausea. However, like any medication, ginger has its adverse effects, covering gastrointestinal and cardiovascular symptoms (Anh et al., 2020). The disadvantage of using traditional medicine is its unpredictable action time. When immediate help is required, herbs and other products are less effective than a specially created drug or injection.

There are many reasons for having multicultural approaches to medical treatment, including ethical recognition, respect, diversity, and improved understanding of health issues. It is not enough to diagnose a patient and choose a care plan. People want to feel support, and if one culture misses some perspectives, another culture improves the situation. Western and traditional cultural approaches may be improved by drawing upon the other. However, this combination diminishes the effects of traditions and the worth of technology in medical treatment. Instead of uniting options, it is better to enhance differences and underline the importance of each approach separately. The challenges of combining these approaches vary from differences in religious beliefs to financial problems. All these controversies between science and culture are necessary for medical treatment because they offer options for people and underline the uniqueness of populations and technological progress.

In general, science and traditions are two integral elements of human life. People strive to make their unique contributions to technology and invent the devices that facilitate human activities. At the same time, they never neglect respect for traditions and cultural diversity. Therefore, high-tech and traditional medicine approaches are commonly discussed and promoted today to identify more positive impacts and reduce negative associations and challenges.

What Is a Science Essay?

A science essay is an academic paper focusing on a scientific topic from physics, chemistry, biology, or any other scientific field.

Science essays are mostly expository. That is, they require you to explain your chosen topic in detail. However, they can also be descriptive and exploratory.

A descriptive science essay aims to describe a certain scientific phenomenon according to established knowledge.

On the other hand, the exploratory science essay requires you to go beyond the current theories and explore new interpretations.

So before you set out to write your essay, always check out the instructions given by your instructor. Whether a science essay is expository or exploratory must be clear from the start. Or, if you face any difficulty, you can take help from a science essay writer as well.

Moreover, check out this video to understand scientific writing in detail.

Now that you know what it is, let's look at the steps you need to take to write a science essay.

How To Write a Science Essay?

Writing a science essay is not as complex as it may seem. All you need to do is follow the right steps to create an impressive piece of work that meets the assigned criteria.

Here's what you need to do:

Choose Your Topic

A good topic forms the foundation for an engaging and well-written essay. Therefore, you should ensure that you pick something interesting or relevant to your field of study.

To choose a good topic, you can brainstorm ideas relating to the subject matter. You may also find inspiration from other science essays or articles about the same topic.

Conduct Research

Once you have chosen your topic, start researching it thoroughly to develop a strong argument or discussion in your essay.

Make sure you use reliable sources and cite them properly . You should also make notes while conducting your research so that you can reference them easily when writing the essay. Or, you can get expert assistance from an essay writing service to manage your citations.

Create an Outline

A good essay outline helps to organize the ideas in your paper. It serves as a guide throughout the writing process and ensures you don’t miss out on important points.

An outline makes it easier to write a well-structured paper that flows logically. It should be detailed enough to guide you through the entire writing process.

However, your outline should be flexible, and it's sometimes better to change it along the way to improve your structure.

Start Writing

Once you have a good outline, start writing the essay by following your plan.

The first step in writing any essay is to draft it. This means putting your thoughts down on paper in a rough form without worrying about grammar or spelling mistakes.

So begin your essay by introducing the topic, then carefully explain it using evidence and examples to support your argument.

Don't worry if your first draft isn't perfect - it's just the starting point!

Proofread & Edit

After finishing your first draft, take time to proofread and edit it for grammar and spelling mistakes.

Proofreading is the process of checking for grammatical mistakes. It should be done after you have finished writing your essay.

Editing, on the other hand, involves reviewing the structure and organization of your essay and its content. It should be done before you submit your final work.

Both proofreading and editing are essential for producing a high-quality essay. Make sure to give yourself enough time to do them properly!

After revising the essay, you should format it according to the guidelines given by your instructor. This could involve using a specific font size, page margins, or citation style.

How to Structure a Science Essay?

A basic science essay structure includes an introduction, body, and conclusion.

Let's look at each of these briefly.

  • Introduction

Your essay introduction should introduce your topic and provide a brief overview of what you will discuss in the essay. It should also state your thesis or main argument.

For instance, a thesis statement for a science essay could be,

"The human body is capable of incredible feats, as evidenced by the many athletes who have competed in the Olympic games."

The body of your essay will contain the bulk of your argument or discussion. It should be divided into paragraphs, each discussing a different point.

For instance, imagine you were writing about sports and the human body.

Your first paragraph can discuss the physical capabilities of the human body.

The second paragraph may be about the physical benefits of competing in sports.

Similarly, in the third paragraph, you can present one or two case studies of specific athletes to support your point.

Once you have explained all your points in the body, it’s time to conclude the essay.

Your essay conclusion should summarize the main points of your essay and leave the reader with a sense of closure.

In the conclusion, you reiterate your thesis and sum up your arguments. You can also suggest implications or potential applications of the ideas discussed in the essay.

By following this structure, you will create a well-organized essay.

Check out a few example essays to see this structure in practice.

How to Choose the Right Science Essay Topic

Choosing the right science essay topic is a critical first step in crafting a compelling and engaging essay. Here's a concise guide on how to make this decision wisely:

  • Consider Your Interests: Start by reflecting on your personal interests within the realm of science. Selecting a topic that genuinely fascinates you will make the research and writing process more enjoyable and motivated.
  • Relevance to the Course: Ensure that your chosen topic aligns with your course or assignment requirements. Read the assignment guidelines carefully to understand the scope and focus expected by your instructor.
  • Current Trends and Issues: Stay updated with the latest scientific developments and trends. Opting for a topic that addresses contemporary issues not only makes your essay relevant but also demonstrates your awareness of current events in the field.
  • Narrow Down the Scope: Science is vast, so narrow your topic to a manageable scope. Instead of a broad subject like "Climate Change," consider a more specific angle like "The Impact of Melting Arctic Ice on Global Sea Levels."
  • Available Resources: Ensure that there are sufficient credible sources and research materials available for your chosen topic. A lack of resources can hinder your research efforts.
  • Discuss with Your Instructor: If you're uncertain about your topic choice, don't hesitate to consult your instructor or professor. They can provide valuable guidance and may even suggest specific topics based on your academic goals.

December 24, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

We are all living in an era dominated by science. In simple terms science is a systematic study of physical world and universe on the basis of observation, experimentation and measurement.  The nineteenth and twentieth centuries saw unparalleled scientific inventions and discoveries which changed the life of man on this planet.

Today we are dependent on science and technology that our life will come to a grinding halt in case of any malfunction in technology.

Science has brought many comforts and convenience in our lives. In earlier times man lived in harmony with nature. Despite many difficulties and hardships posed by nature we lived a less complex, simple, tension free life.

SCIENCE IN EVERY DAY LIFE

However with advancement in science and technology, the pace of life has increased to such a proportion that many individuals are unable to cope with it.

Table of Contents

Advantages of Science in Our Daily Life

Electricity.

The invention of electricity and electricity bulb by Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin    has completely transformed our life. Our homes are now equipped with electrical gadgets which cannot function without supply of electricity.

The water supply, washing machines, coolers, air conditioners, computers , television , fans etc. all need electricity. Many trains run with electricity.

Computers have completely revolutionized our life. The schools, offices, banks, aircraft’s, spacecraft’s and health services are based on computers.

With the computers, data is processed at a very speed which is beyond the capacity of human brain. The computer work with total accuracy.

The records can be processed, computed, stored and retrieved at a faster pace. Even the warfare in the armed forces is now driven by computers.

Health Service

In earlier days thousands of people used to die due to epidemics, diseases like plague, malaria etc. But the science has invented vaccines and antidotes to completely eradicate these diseases.

Today, complex heart and brain surgeries are carried out through nano technology. X-ray, MRI, CT scan etc. can give us three dimensional images about the internal organs of our body. Many organs can be transplanted with the help of technology.

Space Exploration

We have now conquered the outer space. Since the time when we landed on the moon, efforts are afoot to set up human colonies in outer space. Today’s warfare is fought through satellites put in the space.

Thousands of communication and imaging satellites can pin point any place on the earth. India has landed its craft on Mars. Many mysteries of the universe are now being unraveled. We may even be able to find out the origin of our world because of scientific exploration.

TV/Mobile/Radio

TV/Mobiles/Radio has made this world a global village. Space and distance have lost meaning. Sitting at our home we can be connected with anyone in any part of the world in seconds.

We can switch on any radio station through satellite and watch any programme on TV from any country round the clock. Any news or event happening can reach us live. Even some of the military operations/exercises from war zone can be seen sitting in our drawing room.

While we have progressed in every sphere of life due to science and technology, it has its darker side as well. Science has also brought with it nuclear bombs and weapons of mass destruction.

In class 6, Science is broadly classified into three subcategories. They are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Physics is a part of science that deals with the fundamental constituents of the universe. It is an interesting and logical subject. It covers numerous topics such as mechanics, optics, electronics and the most important astrophysics. With the help of physics, we make cars, aeroplanes, house appliances and many others.

Chemistry is a subject that deals with an element found inside the earth's surface. It helps us in making various products such as medicine and cosmetics etc.

Biology is a subject that deals with living organisms. It is subdivided into two types: Botany and Zoology. It teaches us about various parts of our Human body, cells in the body such as blood cells, etc.

It is an era of scientific development. Many wonderful discoveries and inventions have been made by science. With its help, even impossible things have become possible now. One of the greatest wonders of science is the invention of electricity. Electricity is a great source of power. It moves our fans, cooks our food, lights our houses and shops, and runs our machines. It has brought about a revolutionary change in every field of life. Science gave us useful things such as mobile phones, telephones, etc. to stay connected. Science has done wonders in the field of agriculture, farmers in scientific tools for cultivation and growing more foods, crops, fruits, etc. Means of transport like buses, cars, trains, airplanes, and ships are also the contribution of science. Today we can reach any part of the world within a few hours. Medical science has made great progress. It has given legs, ears, and eyes to the disabled. Science in Everyday Life

Essay No. 01

Science is a great blessing to mankind. Nothing better has happened in the history of man than the advent of science in human life. The world into which science came was a world of ignorance, suffering, and hardship. Science has come to relieve us from sufferings, to remove our ignorance, and to lighter our toil.

Science is a faithful servant of man. It serves us in all walks of life. It is our servant in the home, in the field, and in the factory. Science has transformed our daily life. Gone are the days when only rich men could afford luxuries. Science has made them cheap and has brought them within the reach of everybody. Science has produced goods on a large market. These are sold at cheap rates in every market. Books, music, and all other forms of entertainment have been brought to our door. Radio, television, cinema help us in passing our time and also provide education to us.

Science is our most faithful medical attendant. It shows every care for our health. Because of science, we are cured of many diseases. It has given us the power to reduce epidemics. No longer are cholera, plague, and smallpox the scourge of mankind. Science has helped in reducing the death rate and has also enhanced the living age of humans.

Science has reduced distance and made traveling a pleasure. Science has annihilated time and space. Trains roar through deserts, jungles, and mountains while aeroplanes fly across thousands of kilometers in a matter of hours. The work of months and years can now be completed in hours.

Science is the greatest blessing to the poor housewife. A thousand devices have been placed at her disposal to lighter her toil. There is electricity-run kitchens in which cooking is a pleasure. There is no dirt, no smoke, and cooking with the help of gas and electricity can be done in the twinkling of an eye. Electricity helps her in washing and pressing clothes and even in cleaning floors.

Science has provided us with computers and machines which have greatly increased our efficiency. We are better connected to people today and information is only a click of the mouse away. Man no longer needs to do the back-breaking job of digging into mines with bare hands or tilling the soil with animals. Every factory is a standing tribute to the care and comforts that science has brought into our life.

Science educates us in many ways. Large printing presses produce the number of books at cheap rates. News is brought to us from every corner of the world through the newspaper, radios, and television.

However, science has done a great disservice to mankind in the field of armaments. Weapons of mass destruction, nuclear weapons, and sophisticated armament have endangered our lives and threaten to destroy the world. However, it is up to us whether we will destroy our world or make it more beautiful and comfortable with the help of science.

Essay No. 02

The advancements in science have brought about many changes in our lives. The civilizations have progressed leaps and bounds. Science has changed the human attitude towards nature and the universe. It has made mankind confident to face the challenges that the cosmos throws at us.

Science has made our everyday lives very comfortable. In the area of transport, we no longer have to depend upon the slow bullock-carts or the power of our legs, we now have trains, aeroplanes, ships, cars, and scooters to take us from one place to another.

Means of communications have vastly improved. Thanks to various advancements made in science we have come a long way from carrier pigeons and messenger boys to fax machines, Teletext, mobile phones, the Internet, and E-Mails. Computers have today taken over the function of a letter-writer, secretary, postal department, and information disseminator. At a press of a button a person sitting in his office in New York can receive all the information that he requires from any office around the world Communications have also brought about a sea change in the disaster warning systems around the world. Communication satellites moving in their orbits above the earth’s atmosphere can forecast many days in advance any cyclone, tidal changes in the sea, or an eruption of a volcano. They can also transmit the distress signals of a ship or an aircraft to the authorities in times of need

There was a time when the means of entertainment comprised of an evening at a local dance, music, or puppet performance, today we prefer to spend the evening at a cinema hall, or in front of a television set. This transformation has been possible because of the invention of the television and moving pictures.

Agriculture, water resources, energy needs, and medicine are no longer dependent upon the ancient methods. New developments and new technologies have made growing crops, generating electricity, and curing many complex diseases very easy. New implements, new medicines, and new methods have made agriculture, power generation, and medical treatment more efficient.

To conclude we can say that science is the magic genie of today. It can do wonders for us if used carefully. It will, on the contrary, bring destruction and ruin if used in the wrong manner.

Essay No. 03

Science is a great blessing to mankind. Nothing better has happened in the history of man than the advent of science in his life. The world into which science came was a world of ignorance, suffering, and hardship. Science has come to relieve us of sufferings, to remove our ignorance, and to lighten our toil.

Science is a faithful servant of man. It serves us in all walks of life. It is our servant in the home, in the field, in the factory. It serves us at every step in life. Never was there a more helpful servant. It is only when we spoil the servant and do not keep him in proper control that he may cause some harm to us. But this is our own fault. A servant has to be kept under control.

Science has transformed our daily life. Gone are the days when only rich men could afford luxuries. Science has made them cheap and has brought them within the reach of everybody. Science produces goods on large scale. These are sold at cheap rates in every market. Books, music, and all other forms of entertainment have been brought to our doorstep. Radio, television, and cinema help us in passing our time in entertainment. Surely, the daily life of the common man is very different from what it used to be once.

Science is our most faithful medical attendant. It shows every care for our health. Science has cured us of many diseases. It has given us the power to keep epidemics under check. No longer are smallpox, cholera, and plague the ravages of mankind. Science gives us the power to kill the germs which spread these diseases. There is hardly any disease today which can be called incurable.

Science has made traveling a pleasure. No longer do we need to part sadly from our relatives and friends when we go to visit the holy places. Science has annihilated time and space. Trains roar through deserts and jungles and man travels with safety and speed. But already the trains and motor cars have become absolute means of transport. The airplanes fly across hundreds of kilometers in an hour. You can take your breakfast in Srinagar, lunch in Delhi, and dinner in Mumbai. The work of months and years completed in hours.

Science is the greatest blessing to the poor housewife. Now she need not always remain busy in the kitchen. A thousand devices have been placed at her disposal to lighten her toil. There are electricity-run kitchens in which cooking is a pleasure. There is no dirt, no smoke. Cooking is done in the twinkling of an eye. Electricity serves the housewife to wash and press her clothes and to sweep her floors. No one could be more grateful than the housewife to the science for its blessing. It has given her leisure to take rest, to study, and to attend better to her children.

No less happy could be the laborer with science. Science has taken upon itself the dirtiest of jobs. Man no longer needs to do the back-breaking job of digging into the coal and iron mines with his bare hands. Every factory is a standing tribute to the ease and comfort that science has brought into our life.

But this is by no means the end of the blessings of science. Another job that this servant does for us is to educate us. Science has built great printing presses which produce a large number of books at very cheap rates. It has placed at our disposal scores of means to expel ignorance from mankind. News is brought to us from every corner of the world through the newspaper, the radio, and the television. The result is that superstition and ignorance find it difficult now to thrive. No longer can clever people deceive the simple and ordinary people of the world.

However, there is the other side of the picture. Science has done the greatest disservice to mankind in the field of armament. The invention of gunpowder was hailed as a great achievement, but humanity should rue the day when this invention took place.

Steadily and relentlessly, gunpowder has been used and perfected into a hundred new more destructive weapons so that today artillery, gunfire, shells, and bombs have become a hellish terror to everybody. Curiously enough, in the laboratories of different nations, some of the best scientific brains are vying with one another in the production of newer weapons of death and destruction. And so the question arises, ‘Is science a bane or a boon ?’

If science meant for man’s happiness is employed by man for his own death and destruction, who can help him? It is certainly not the fault of science if we go on multiplying engines of destruction. Again, if science has invented ingenious methods of death and destruction, it has not been slow to invent effective means of counteracting them. Thus against gas, there is the gas mask; against the tank, anti-tank gun; and against aerial bombing, anti-aircraft guns. It is reported that some effective weapons have been made to tame the fury of the nuclear bomb. It is not science that is responsible for the war. It is the beast in man. Alfred Nobel had invented dynamite to help workers in mines and to construct roads in hilly areas but not to blow up men and their property. In holding science responsible for the havocs of modern war, we thus do a great injustice to it.

It has been found that the energy generated by the release of an atom bomb is sufficient to burn about four square kilometers of land, say, about 80,000 people. But if the same energy is applied for constructive purposes, it is capable of working wonders. It has been found that one pound of uranium, when converted, into energy is equivalent to 15,000 tonnes of coal. Therefore, the lovers of peace denounce atomic weapons and not atomic energy which is at present being applied in the field of agriculture, medicine, industry, and as a source of power on a limited scale.

Before us, not lies a new era in which the power of atomic energy has been released. That age will either be of complete devastation or in which new sources of power will lighten the labor of mankind and improve the standard of living all over the world. It is for us to decide, whether we will destroy the world with the atomic bomb or rebuild it with atomic energy.

Essay On Science In Everyday Life [Best One]

Essay On Science In Everyday Life: “Science” is the study of and knowledge about the physical world and natural laws. We can not change these laws but can use them intelligently to make our lives more comfy and luxurious.

Edward Teller has correctly said, “the science of today is the technology of tomorrow”. Once we understand any law of this nature, we turn it into an opportunity to create a technology that will assist us in saving our time and much more than that.

INTRODUCTION

Today, we are all surrounded by various technologies that have made our life full of comfort and simplicity. All these technologies have been derived with the help of science. Without science, these inventions were impossible. In our daily life, we use science in almost every walk.

No doubt science is a discovery of humans but science has discovered many techniques and methods to humans we use in our daily life. It has turned the complexities of life into simplicities. It has helped us save time. We are more efficient and productive compared to when we did not use science.

USES OF SCIENCE IN EVERYDAY LIFE

Everyone is well aware of how deeply science is involved in every aspect of man’s life. From sunrise to sunset, we are indulged in using various gadgets, technologies, and methods offered by science. For example, Electricity, which is considered the greatest invention, has purely based on the laws of electron dynamics.

Even some of the scientific inventions are called the wonders of science . Machines, devices, vehicles, smartphones, tablets, laptops, the internet, the IT revolution, air conditioners, blowers, geysers, heaters, TVs, and many more, all are gifts of science used in everyday life. This is not a pep talk but it is a fact.

USE OF SCIENCE AT HOME

Gone are the days when only rich men could afford a luxurious life. Science has made the luxury so cheap that the common man can also afford it. Fridges, Washing machines, fans, coolers, air conditioners, lighting, geyser, hair drier, massager, water purifiers, air purifiers etc. have made our life no less than a life of a king.

Science is proved to be a blessing to the housewife. The household devices have made her life much lighter. Today, we can handle the complete house with the help of appliances offered by science. Cooking is now a pleasure in a kitchen facilitated with kitchen devices. Cleaning is done by vacuum cleaners, washing is done by washing machines.

USE OF SCIENCE IN TRAVELLING

Human life is not limited to homes. We are social creatures so there is a need for travelling to meet people and execute other important tasks like education, professional jobs, providing services etc. Science has made travelling a joy. It has offered us various modes of travel and transport.

Trains roar through deserts, jungles, and mountains while aeroplanes fly in the air covering thousands of kilometres in a while. In the past, a journey which took months is today possible in a time duration of some hours. Road vehicles like cars, buses, and bikes made travelling an excellent experience. This is all because of science.

USE OF SCIENCE IN COMMUNICATION

Communication is something that makes humans distinct from other living beings on earth. Science has developed multiple methods of communication that help us communicate better. With the help of e-mail, the internet, computers, telephones, smartphones etc. we can connect to anyone in the world within seconds.

Communication is not limited to individuals. When it comes to flashing our message to the crowd, mass communication helps us. Science has given us multiple methods of mass communication like T.V. newspapers, magazines, social media etc.

USE OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION

Science has also helped us with education. Today, we can take education from sitting in our homes with the help of online learning, online classes, video conferencing and online tests. In the period of lockdown, Science has kept us enabled to pursue education.

Thanks to I.T. (Information Technology) which has made information accessible to everyone. With the help of Information Technology, today anyone can acquire knowledge almost of each type from various sources.

USE OF SCIENCE IN THE WORKPLACE

Science has grown our productivity and efficiency by producing multiple devices for our work. Those were the days when offices were stacked with a bunch of files. It was a very difficult task to find specific data. But nowadays it is done with a single click.

With the use of A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), we need fewer human resources. Machines do the work much faster and more efficiently.

To sum it up, There is no doubt that science has the greatest benefits to mankind. It definitely has made the most influence in adding comfort to our everyday lives. The wonders of science have made our life wonderful. A special thanks to science and the great scientists who made this possible.

Anything Eric R. Kandel says about neuroscience or the relationship between art and neuroscience is noteworthy. He is not only brilliant at explaining difficult and complex scientific ideas and data in simple language but also well-informed about—and sympathetic to—twentieth-century art, and avails himself of an impressive range of art-historical literature. Recognizing and Addressing Microaggressions in Everyday Life

This essay about microaggressions discusses their subtle yet harmful impact on daily interactions. It explains how these covert acts, fueled by historical prejudice, erode respect and understanding. The essay emphasizes the importance of mindfulness, empathy, and courage in recognizing and addressing microaggressions. It highlights the shared responsibility of society, especially allies, in challenging oppressive behaviors and fostering inclusive, equitable environments. The essay calls for a shift in societal consciousness to achieve true equality and respect for all individuals.

How it works

In the delicate dance of human interaction, microaggressions perform subtle, often unnoticed steps, leaving behind emotional scars. These covert yet powerful acts weave through daily life, burdened by historical prejudice and bias, weakening the fragile bonds of mutual respect and understanding. Recognizing and addressing microaggressions requires a fusion of mindfulness, empathy, and the bravery to challenge societal norms.

Microaggressions, resembling tiny barbs embedded in everyday conversations, manifest in various forms, each carrying a distinct sting of discrimination. Whether as overt as a racial slur or as understated as a dismissive look, their impact is profound, undermining the sense of belonging and dignity of those they target.

A seemingly harmless comment such as “You’re surprisingly articulate for someone like you” is laden with implicit bias, reinforcing damaging stereotypes and dismissing individual achievements.

Navigating the complex web of microaggressions requires acute awareness and a willingness to speak out against inequity. It demands confronting discomfort head-on and challenging oppressive behaviors whenever they emerge. This involves creating spaces for difficult conversations and holding ourselves and others accountable for the impact of our words and actions.

Importantly, the responsibility of addressing microaggressions does not lie solely with the victims; it is a shared duty that calls for the active engagement of all societal members. Allies, who stand in solidarity with marginalized communities, are crucial in dismantling oppressive structures and advocating for meaningful change.

At its core, addressing microaggressions requires a societal shift in consciousness. It necessitates recognizing that seemingly benign words and actions can cause significant harm and that genuine equality can only be achieved through a steadfast commitment to empathy and understanding.

In summary, recognizing and confronting microaggressions is not only a moral imperative but also an essential step towards creating a more inclusive and just society. By nurturing mindfulness, empathy, and the courage to challenge injustice, we can begin to dismantle the systems of oppression that sustain discrimination, fostering a world where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their race, gender, or any other facet of their identity.

Holograms step out of science fiction into everyday life

H olographic technology, once confined to the realm of science fiction, is now making its way into the real world. Dutch company Holoconnects is leading the charge with its innovative AI-powered holographic displays, promising to redefine the way we interact with digital content.

"It's a really exciting time right now," said Steve Sterling, Managing Director of Holoconnects North America. The company recently displayed its technology at South by Southwest in Austin, demonstrating its potential for various industries.

The Holobox , Holoconnects' flagship product, works by capturing a subject's image against a white backdrop and projecting it into a specially designed box. This creates a three-dimensional hologram that can be customized with AI-powered graphics and atmospheric effects.

One of the first applications of Holoconnects' technology is in the hospitality industry. The company is currently installing its devices in 30 hotels across Scandinavia, where they will be used as check-in kiosks.

"There's a motion detector here," explained Sterling. "You walk up, the hologram greets you, and then you can check in using the touch buttons."

Healthcare is another promising area for holographic technology. "We're going to connect doctors to patients," said Holoconnects co-founder and CEO Andre Smith. "Imagine a doctor being able to appear as a live hologram in a rural area, providing much-needed medical care."

The possibilities extend beyond healthcare and hospitality. In retail, for example, customers can use the Holobox to interact with product samples, customize their purchases, and make instant purchases.

"The possibilities are endless," concluded Roel Gijsbers, CEO of 270 Degrees , a company using the Holobox Mini for commercial applications.

Holoconnects' technology marks a significant step forward in the evolution of digital interaction. As the technology continues to develop, we can expect to see holograms become increasingly commonplace in our everyday lives.
