Tourism in Mizoram is a fast growing sector and is projected to bring in revenue in the future years to come as there has been numerous developments and trends in the sector, the accessibility to the state is easier with number of flights coming in and out of Mizoram has increased over the decade proving its significance for tourism in Mizoram, the recent availability of inland helicopter service enhances the transportation that connects all the districts of the state. Today’s tourist are becoming more and more cautious in the destination they pick through internet sites and other print media’s and therefore it is very important to develop tourism with the latest trends and technology to attract maximum tourist as Mizoram has a lot of unexplored destinations unknown to national and international tourists . The attitude of the Mizo people towards tourism also plays a significant part in attracting maximum number of tourist, and how hospitable are the people towards tourist coming from different parts of the world. This paper intends to find the attitude of the Mizo people towards tourism and how they welcome the tourist and branding Mizoram as one of the best tourist destination in Northeast India. It also intends to find the perception of the people in terms of its significance to the state and its economy and comment on how they view the infrastructure and facilities available in the state to attract maximum number of tourist from all around the world.

Tourism is an important economic sector in Meghalaya, contributing 7% (approx) to the state GDP. An inquiry into the tourism development of a destination presents a valuable insight into the nature of progress and acts as a base for the way forward. Accordingly, the current study aims at exploring the tourism development of Meghalaya. It is qualitative in nature, with a focus on interviews conducted with knowledgeable personalities in the field of tourism for input. The objectives of the study is to generate excessive public attention towards tourism in the Theni District, to know the interest of Tourist's visits to the Theni District, to analyze the transport and accommodation facilities of the study area, to know and to comprehend the amount of expenditure and the required financial needs of tourism in the Theni District and to offer findings and suggestions for the development of tourism in the Theni District. Public relations represents a strategic form of communication, which focuses on gaining the audience's understanding and acceptance, as well as on the process of building a good relation between an organization and the public. (Petrovici, 2014) The borders between countries have started to disappear; thanks to the effects of globalization as transportation has become much easier compared to the last century or even the last decade. The industry of Travel and Tourism has exponentially grown in the past few years and with it, the competition; along with Advertising and Marketing Public Relations playing a major role as a tool for promotion. (Vesajoki, 2002) Hence, in the tourist sector Public relations is more than a necessary as it gives a third party view about the place by building a positive image of the location and all that it has to offer without sounding/looking sales-y and in increasing the visibility of the destination to attract a significant number of tourists. (Ceylan, 2007) Nagaland is one of the seven sisters situated in the extreme part of North East India known for its rich bio-diversity, its lush and pristine forests and its diverse cultural heritage; with a total of 16 tribes which showcase their own unique cultural elements. (Ngullie M. Z., 2016) The outside world knew the Nagas as Head-hunters, although this is a thing of the past; traditionally they were fierce warriors, yet Nagas are amiable by nature and highly hospitable to guests and visitors. Nagaland is popularly referred to as the “Land of Festivals” because each of the 16 tribes has at least 2 festivals during the sowing season and during its harvest, life in Nagaland is one long festival. (S, 1997) The tourist scene in Nagaland is a relatively new concept started only in 1981 when the Department of Tourism was established; the Government of Nagaland has been taking up multi-developmental activities over the years and has witnessed development in a few major districts and has attained much appreciation from the nation and in international levels from the promotion of the Hornbill Festival in December, which has become a mega tourism event in the State. The exquisitely picturesque landscape, the vibrantly colorful sunrise and sunset with a lush and verdant flare; this is a land that represents extraordinary beauty, moulded perfectly for a breath-taking experience to whoever visits. However, the issues in terms of tourism in Nagaland is prevalent, with the majority of the tourists that Nagaland receives is during the Hornbill Festival that happens during December each year. According to previous research “The state of Arunachal Pradesh held the highest 40% of tourist interests followed by Assam 20%, then Meghalaya 20%, Tripura 10%. The states like Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur shared 10% among themselves. The data demonstrate that interests of tourist are relatively lower in these states. Only people who visited these places were largely interested in buying wooden products in majority and made 70% of the total respondents. The 15% respondents have also shown their interest to buy products made by tribal people, 10% silk product and 5% woolen products. Apart from tourism, these products are the main sources of income for the local people.” (Archan Mitra, 2017) This research aims to find the issues faced by the tourists and to find out how Public relations would help in achieving sustainable tourism in Nagaland. The maximum of the advertising for tourism revolves around the major festival that happens once a year, first week of December where the government has embarked upon exploiting the cultural assets of the state. This takes away from the fact that Nagaland is more than that one festival, with a colorful and vibrant history of culture and culinary treasures; scope for rural tourism which is a part of eco-tourism showcasing the rural life of the indigenous people of each district while enjoying the landscape. This is exactly what this research aims to find out, how to create a tourist friendly, easy, comfortable and safe way for tourists to enjoy the full experience to be a Naga and to find out how public relations play a major role in doing so. This would help in the awareness and scope for the promotion of tourism in Nagaland which in turn contributes to India’s tourism and economy as a whole. The following are the objectives: To compare the tourist foot traffic in other NE states (Local) To analyze the tourist inflow from 2015-2018 in Nagaland (Local) To identify the issues related to low tourist inflow To develop a strong Public relation consultancy to increase tourist inflow. This research is to conclude that Public relations could majorly help in the proper placement of the state as a safe and comfortable stay with beautiful landscapes by offering a third party view of travelling in the interiors of Nagaland all round the year. The usage of Public relations would help in branding and placing the state in a positive light in defiance of the past records and misconceptions of it being unsafe and unwelcoming because of the prevalent insurgency and violence made popular by media. The unique food habits and way of life which was a negative aspect for some till date henceforth could be used as a unique selling point of the state with the help of good PR.

This is the first time that India is releasing a happiness report. It was prepared by a professor of strategy, Rajesh K Pillania, of the Management Development Institute in Gurugram.

All the states and the union territories in the country were part of the survey. Mizoram is followed by Andaman-Nicobar Islands, Punjab, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh on the happy list.

Family relations and friendships, income and growth, work-related issues, social issues, physical and mental well-being, religious and spiritual matters and whether COVID-19 affected lives are the major parameters on which happiness was measured.

The survey also pointed out that gender differences did not affect the happiness quotient. Instead, age, marriage, income, and education had a more crucial role in determining a person’s happiness.

Married couples are more happy than single people, as per the survey.

Ecotourism in Mizoram: Problems and Prospects

As in North Eastern India, Mizoram is one of the Seven Sister States listed. On 20 February 1987, it became India's 23rd state. Nestled in the north-eastern part of India at the southern tip, it is a mountainous state. Aizawl is the capital and one of the least-frequented towns in India. There are 10 major national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in the state and it is a hotspot for biodiversity. It has a trans-boundary basin called Kaladan on the river. For the more adventurous spirit, the scenery and rivers are ideal for various outdoor sports and activities. The environment is unbelievable and the climate is really viable. One of India's most stable states is Mizoram. For tourists, it has many destinations. Tourism development has been negatively impacted by the lack of a state tourism policy. During 2009-14, 42 tourist lodges and highway restaurants in the state incurred a maintenance cost of Rs. 734.05 lakh, against which, according to a CAG estimate, only Rs. 266.85 lakh was received as revenue. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India's report said the growth of tourism in Mizoram was unsatisfactory. Mizoram has 36 recognised tourist spots that the State Department of Tourism has established. There are currently 31 tourist lodges available and 5 restaurants on the highway. The capital city with decent facilities for accommodation is Aizawl. Recently, the Hnahlan region has become known for its new winery plants that produce grape wine. The state is doing exceptionally well since acquiring statehood to maintain unity and peace. The state's economy is focused primarily on agriculture, and the state has few cottage industries and some small-scale agro-based industries. If proper values are practised about indigenous people and the climate, the industry will develop in a healthy way. It is vital that things are not done harmfully and that nature admires them.
