We have to keep trying to motivate our children to read lots of books. Because practice makes progress. Meaning, it’s vital to keep kids engaged in books every day for sustained periods of time.

You already know this.

Probably you’re trying every song and dance to keep your kids motivated. Right?

It can be exhausting. I get it.

My kids are like yours — they go through phases with reading and right now, screens are more interesting. It’s frustrating as a parent.

But we must keep trying!

One of you lovely readers emailed me yesterday to ask for a reading challenge, like a reading bingo. And so, I created this printable to help her and all of you.

But, first– don’t forget the book lists!

What is bingo.

Since its invention in the 1920’s, bingo has been and continues to be one of the oldest and most loved games that you can find all over the world. Bingo is a game of chance where numbers are drawn between 1 and 75 or 90 (depending on where in the world you are).

All of the players all have a bingo card with at least 16 different numbers on it. Depending on where you are located, the game may have slightly different rules or structure because different jurisdictions have evolved their own version of the game.

The basic premise is that players will mark off each number that they can match on their bingo card. How bingo works is, when a player has a row, column, or diagonal completely covered, they will call out “bingo!”

Who can play Bingo?

If you’re wondering who bingo is good for, the answer is everyone! People of all generations love bingo, and the teachers who use WordMint to create their bingo templates find that their students love it.

Students stick the Bingo sheet in the front of their exercise books.

They can then choose any of the reading challenges that they would like to complete in their spare time (or set one for homework!)

Students fill out a worksheet for each of the tasks, stick it in their exercise book and cross off the Bingo square.

If they complete 5 tasks in a row they get a certificate and win a prize!

I have included the ppt so that tasks and worksheets can be amended. I have also included PDF versions of the worksheets so that they can be printed easily.

Free Printable Winter Break Bingo

Winter break is coming up quickly so I created a fun Free Printable Winter Break Bingo to give to the kids.

Winter Break Bingo

With winter break quickly approaching, I created this bingo to send home with the kiddos.  Instead of homework over break, I wanted to encourage the students to read, play, and spend quality time with the families. I’ve included fun things like draw a winter picture, have soup for dinner, read in front of the fireplace, have an indoor snowball fight. Lots of different options for the students to choose from.

THIS RESOURCE WORKS WELL WITH

You can make suggestions too, such as if a student doesn’t have a fireplace, they have fire videos on Netflix or Youtube. Maybe you live in Arizona like us and don’t get snow, but you can still build a snowman out of play doh. Encourage the students to think outside the box and be creative. Winter break is a great time for us all to regenerate and take a break to get ready for the second half of the school year.

If the students bring back the bingo card after winter break with a, “bingo’, they get to take a trip to the treasure box.
