Paper Presentation
Paper Presentation, located in downtown New York City, has been in operation since 1990 .
If you can imagine seventeen thousand square feet of wrapping paper, stationery, envelopes, presentation folders, greeting cards , fountain pens, sealing wax and stamps, pre-printed invitations for almost any event you could imagine, notebooks, custom wedding and party invitations, correspondence cards, and accessories, all at about 10 percent less than at other paper suppliers— well, it’s not a dream, it’s real. And if you can imagine finding such a place in the middle of Manhattan, well that’s not a dream either.
Totally different, not just different views.
In terms of stationery, Paper Presentation’s stock and variety of paper sizes is practically unmatched with that of anyone in the business. On the upper level of the store are a handful of graphic designers and a meeting space where they create artistic and beautiful wedding invitations and custom designs for practically any event. A busy store always, they have many regular, local customers, as well as a great deal of tourists. This mega-store requires a team of about 30 staff members, with additional staff in their offices and warehouse in New Jersey.

Burger and Lobster
The moment I walked into Burger and Lobster, I knew that it was not a typical seafood restaurant. Huge lobsters swam in tanks by the door, and a whimsical chalkboard announced the restaurant’s grand total of three menu items: the burger, the lobster, and the lobster roll. When Burger and Lobster opened in January of 2015, no one knew whether its limited menu would appeal to New Yorkers. Vanessa, the general manager, was especially skeptical. “But after just a few weeks, ” she told me, “the restaurant was a huge success! I couldn’t believe it. ” Since then, Burger and Lobster’s reputation has continued to grow, and the wait on weekends can be up to an hour. When I stopped by on a sweltering July afternoon, I could see why the restaurant has become so popular. Housed in a former tae kwon do studio, Burger and Lobster feels both casual and upscale, with high ceilings and simple décor (I especially liked the lobster trap light fixtures). With seating for up to 300 people at a time, the restaurant can easily accommodate large groups, and the downstairs space is available for private events. Even better, every item on the menu is $20 and comes with generous portions of salad and fries. Burger and Lobster has a distinctively American feel, so I was surprised to learn that the company is based in the UK. According to Vanessa, it all started out with four friends who had known each other since high school. They already owned several high-end London restaurants, and when they decided to do something fun and different, Burger and Lobster was born. The first restaurant was so successful that the business multiplied, and now has eight locations in London and several others in Manchester, Wales, and Dubai. All of Burger and Lobster’s locations have the same laid-back atmosphere, but Vanessa told me that the New York restaurant is the most fun. “A lot of our servers are actors and actresses, ” she explained, “and they’re always having a good time. Last week, two of them performed a scene from Dirty Dancing, and everyone loved it! ”In spite of its relaxed environment, Burger and Lobster is very serious about the quality of its food. Vanessa explained that they buy all of their lobsters from the same group of lobstermen in Nova Scotia, while their beef comes from carefully selected Nebraskan ranchers. “We work really closely with them to make sure all of our food is of the highest possible quality, ” Vanessa added. We had the opportunity to try the food for ourselves just a few minutes later, when the server presented us with all three of Burger and Lobster’s menu items. The lobster paired perfectly with the lemon garlic butter (as did the fries), and once we managed to bite into the towering ten-ounce burger, we found that it was juicy and filling. The Manhattan Sideways team especially enjoyed the creamy lobster roll on soft butter brioche, a choice that felt refreshing and summery. Though we did not sample the drink menu, Vanessa told us about the signature cocktails and wines that Burger and Lobster has on tap, as well as its many beer options. When we had eaten as much burger and lobster as we could—the portions were quite large—Vanessa took us on a tour of the restaurant’s lobster lab. This area, which was designed by a marine biologist and is regulated by a complex computer system, can hold up to 4000 pounds of lobster at any given time. “We go through a lot of lobster, ” Vanessa told us. “On weekends, sometimes we use as many as a thousand per day. ” While the smaller lobsters are kept downstairs in the lab, the “big boys, ” as they’re affectionately known, are kept on the main floor for customers to admire. Between six and eighteen pounds, some of these lobsters are estimated to be eighty or ninety years old, and they are quite an impressive sight. We even got a chance to hold one of the big boys, a six-pounder who remained surprisingly calm as we lifted him by the claws. Burger and Lobster’s Manhattan location has received rave reviews, and Vanessa told us that the company will soon bring its high-quality food and impressive service to other locations in New York and the United States. But until then, anyone hoping to experience Burger and Lobster will have to make their way to this cool, casual spot on West 19th Street.
Peter McManus Café
Four generations of the McManus clan have operated this jovial Irish tavern, making it among the oldest family-run bars in the city. Its originator, Peter McManus, left his quaint Irish hometown and disembarked in Ellis Island with “basically five dollars and a potato in his pocket, ” as the story goes. He opened the first McManus as a longshoreman’s bar in 1911 on West 55th Street, which he then converted into a thriving general store during Prohibition while migrating his liquor business into a number of speakeasies. Once the restrictions ended in 1933, the shop was so successful that Peter kept it going and found a new spot on 19th Street in which to revive his bar. Peter’s son, James Sr., spent close to fifty years working in and later running the pub. It then passed into the hands of James Jr., who now stands beside his own son, Justin, serving beer and cracking jokes over a century later. Knowing that they will find pleasant conversation and an intriguing cast of characters at McManus, people often come alone to see what the night holds for them. The atmosphere at McManus is merry, but patrons still respect the history and charm that suffuse every corner of the space. Much of the bar is original, including the stunning Tiffany stained glass windows, the hand carved woodwork and crown molding, and the terrazzo floor that can no longer be made today. “We try to preserve it and are pretty protective of it. This bar was built to last, ” Justin said.
Bottlerocket
Tom Geniesse is in love with the Flatiron District and he believes he has chosen the perfect location to house his cleverly laid out wine shop. As he explained, there are two ways to shop for wine - first - the old fashioned way with the wines alphabetized by country. Thus, along the walls at the front of the store, multiple wine regions from around the world are represented alphabetically, beginning with Argentina. It is down the center of the shop, however, that Tom'sother idea for displaying wines comes to fruition: The same wines that line the sides are now separated by category - Meat, Seafood, Take-out, Treats, Gifts, Value, Events. Get the idea? The fun doesn't stop here, though, for next to each bottle Tom has a "resume" of each wine, providing tools to make wise choices. Collectors with deep pockets can find a fine selection as can university students who prefer not to spend a great deal. Bottlerocket is designed to build a bridge for consumers to make the right decision. When asked what drew him into the wine business, Tom said that he was a "crazy entrepreneur" who had lots of different jobs but continuously found himself disappointed in wine shops. "I always wanted to know more, and this is a result of that effort. "

This Paper Source has it all - cards, gift wrapping, stationery, stickers, decorations, and much more, at a lower price than Papyrus. I appreciated that they had a Lunar New Year corner and LGBTQ friendly wedding cards, though I hope that in the future they'll have more than 1-2 cards! Their attentive employees are eager to help, and I like that they have post-Christmas/Hanukkah discounts (50-75% off). However, when checking out discounted items, triple check that they apply the discounts from the displays, as the bar codes often did not reflect the display discounts. I had to go back and get a refund due to the mismatch in the barcode system. Note: They don't have a loyalty program yet but will soon, likely using the system from Barnes & Noble, who just bought them.
Paper Source near Union Square at 75 Fifth Avenue is a great location when I need to buy gifts or need a special gift wrap and don't forget a bow! They have balloons for every occasion too. I frequently find an unusual gift idea for a friend. There's greeting cards for every occasion. Yup, if you're in the neighborhood I suggest you visit this store. It's quality merchandise and fun to shop here.

I came all the way here in the rain because it's supposed to be open till 9pm and at 7:49pm they were closed with no explanation...
Taken at 7:49pm
Stopped in here quickly to warm up on a cold day. Other than clothing stores, there are not a lot of regular retail options on this stretch of 5th avenue. I was the only customer in the store, plus 2 employees. The people were very accommodating and helpful and didn't "hover" over me, which I appreciated. There a lot of neat little gift ideas and cards here, plus the traditional paper and pen and sticker selection. Also good for holiday specific options. They had a nice little Easter display when I visited. Just a nice little escape from the digital into the traditional.
Arrived at 8:06. Wouldn't let me in store. Store posting closes at 8:30. Store attendant guarding door. Rude. On Mother's Day. :/
Andrea and Rose here were absolutely lovely. I rushed to the store, arriving at 7:30 to have 2 gifts wrapped. They kindly agreed to wrap them last minute for me and did it with a smile. They really saved me by being able to graciously help me with this last minute gifting project. And the wrapping looked impeccable. Their service was very much appreciated.

This store has EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING! I could spend an hour inside easy. It's kind of like papyrus on steroids. From cards to cute little gifts to go with the card this place is awesome. Staff is really helpful showing you where things are because you can get overwhelmed when you go inside! Other than that this place is perfect. They even have balloons. Things are on the pricier side.. that I guess is the only downside other than that really nice quality stuff!

I went in today because I confused them with Paper Presentation. Though they did not have the paper selection I wanted the sales team was helpful and accommodating during my search. The first thing as I entered the store I was greeted by a warm and welcoming greeting. Though I did not make a purchase today, the service I received today was friendly and that really goes a long way with me. I'll try them out again and hopefully they will be able to suit my paper needs next time around.
I love everything about Paper Source, especially this location. Their staff are extremely friendly, and kind. Their store is very clean and organized which makes me always coming back to buy me. Paper Source is my go-to place for cards and small nik-nac gifts. I promise you, you will find a perfect gift for someone. Check out their cool wrapping paper too! It'll make wrapping gifts a little more fun to do.
If you are looking for a Valentine's Day card this place has a nice selection of crafty/Etsy types. Very "pink" in here and it seems the kind of shop set up more for the ladies. Plenty of craft paper products - wrapping paper, foil, cards, gifts, stationary, seasonal items, etc. Prices seemed ok for what was offered here, but I'm no expert on this stuff. Kind of on par with Papyrus, and also they are a chain store with locations popping up around the city. Hmmmmm......wonder how much wrap and ribbon it would take to cover my naked body and send it to my Valentine?

A paper is bad enough, but presentations are even more nerve-wracking. You've got the writing down, but how do you turn it into a dynamic, informative, enjoyable presentation? Why, here's how!
Guidelines and Audience
- Know how long the speech must be.
- Know how many points you're required to cover.
- Know if you must include sources or visuals.
- If you're presenting to people you know, it'll be easy to know what to break down and what to gloss over. But if you're presenting to unknown stockholders or faculty, for instance, you need to know about them and their knowledge levels, too. You may have to break your paper down into its most basic concepts. Find out what you can about their backgrounds.
- Does the facility have a computer and projector screen?
- Is there a working WiFi connection?
- Is there a microphone? A podium?
- Is there someone who can assist you in working the equipment before your presentation?
Script and Visuals
- Only have one point per notecard -- that way you won't end up searching the notecard for your information. And don't forget to number the cards in case you get mixed up! And the points on your cards shouldn't match your paper; instead of regurgitating information, discuss why the key points of your paper are important or the different points of view on this topic within the field.
- As you go through this outline, remove any jargon if it may not be understood.
- If you won't have access to the proper technology, print visual aids on poster board or foam-core board.
- If using presentation software, use words sparingly, but enough to get your point across. Think in phrases (and pictures!), not sentences. Acronyms and abbreviations are okay on the screen, but when you talk, address them fully. And remember to use large fonts -- not everyone's vision is fantastic. [7] X Research source
- It's okay to be a bit repetitive. Emphasizing important ideas will enhance comprehension and recall. When you've gone full circle, cycle back to a previous point to lead your audience to the right conclusion.
- Minimize the unnecessary details (the procedure you had to go through, etc.) when highlighting the main ideas you want to relay. You don't want to overload your audience with fluff, forcing them to miss the important stuff.
- Show enthusiasm! A very boring topic can be made interesting if there is passion behind it.
Practice, Practice, and More Practice
- If you can grab a friend who you think has a similar knowledge level to your audience, all the better. They'll help you see what points are foggier to minds with less expertise on the topic.
- It'll also help you with volume. Some people get rather timid when in the spotlight. You may not be aware that you're not loud enough!
- Do the same with your conclusion. Thank everyone for their time and open the floor for any questions, if allowed.
- Make eye contact with people in the audience to help build your connection with them.
