Question and answer

Can my v8 animal dyson vacumm cleaner be left pluged in ready for use next time?

Yes, you can leave your Dyson V8 Animal vacuum cleaner plugged in and ready for use next time. However, please make sure that the machine stays upright when using it and do not use it while checking for blockages as this could cause personal injury. Additionally, it is suggested to store the machine indoors and only clean it with a dry cloth.

How do I clean it?

How do I empty it?

To empty the clear bin of the Dyson V8 Animal vacuum cleaner, follow these steps: 1. Make sure the machine is unplugged before emptying the clear bin. Be careful not to press the power trigger ("ON"). 2. To make emptying easier, it is recommended to remove the wand and floor tool. 3. To minimize contact with dust/allergens while emptying, put the clear bin into a plastic bag and empty the contents. 4. To remove dirt, hold the machine by the handle, pull back the red lever, and lift it to release the extractor. Keep doing this until the base of the bin opens automatically and remove the dirt. 5. Carefully take out the clear bin from the bag. 6. Seal the bag tightly and dispose of it as usual. 7. To close, push the extractor down until it is in the normal position and manually close the base of the bin. You will hear a click when the base is securely in place.

My Dyson animal will no longer charge. What do I do?

If your Dyson V8 Animal vacuum cleaner will no longer charge, please follow these steps: 1. Check the battery: If the battery needs replacing, please contact the Dyson Helpline for assistance. 2. Use the correct charger: Make sure to use only Dyson chargers specifically designed for charging the V8 Animal. 3. Battery safety precautions: The battery is a sealed unit and under normal circumstances poses no safety concerns. However, if liquid leaks from the battery, do not touch the liquid and follow these precautions: - Skin contact: Wash with soap and water if there is any irritation. - Inhalation: Expose to fresh air and seek medical advice if there is respiratory irritation. - Eye contact: Immediately flush eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. - Disposal: Wear gloves to handle the battery and dispose of it immediately following local ordinances or regulations. 4. Battery disposal: Dispose of or recycle the battery in accordance with local ordinances or regulations. Keep used batteries away from children as they can still be harmful if swallowed.

Only charges for a short minute or two

My Dyson animal +will no longer charge. What do I do?

1. My wife and I disagree about how much we can use the v8 animal, cleaning the house. One of us considers it like a "broom," for small and quick jobs only. The other thinks of it like a vacuum sweeper, for light work, but the whole house. 2. Also can you say how long a new battery should last in-use? (45 min?) 3. And one more question: will it serve adequately cleaning oriental rugs ... one of short ply and one medium? Or should we follow with the corded sweeper... Thanks! Erick

I was told that this stick vac would stand. Does it stand? I can't make mine stand. Why is it so hard to push on carpet? It feels like it is grabbing the carpet and doesn't want to move. I just purchased this vacuum.

I can not get the stick off the motor. I push the red button, but it won’t come loose.

You unpacked my new dyson and it will not charge. When I plug it in a small red light goes on and it does not charge. What am I doing wrong?

Worked fine last week. Now doesn’t come back on. Charged it overnight but still no luck. No problems before this.

I cleaned the filters for my Dyson V8 Animal Cordless Vacuum and now it will not run properly. It will work for a few seconds and then it stops. I removed the filters and put them back but it will not work. The battery is fully charged. Not sure why this is happening and unfortunately, my warranty expired March of 2023.

Can't find the answer to your question in the manual? You may find the answer to your question in the FAQs about the Dyson V8 Animal below.

My Dyson vacuum is losing suction. Why is that?

Your Dyson vacuum cleaner losing suction power can be due to the following causes: - The suction power is not set to maximum - The dust container or dust bag is full - The hose, brush or tube is clogged

How often should I check the filter?

A clean filter is important to maintain the vacuum cleaner's suction power. Therefore, check the filter regularly. When a filter is clogged, dust absorption decreases and energy consumption increases.

What do I do with a smelly vacuum cleaner?

A commonly used method is to put a little washing powder in the dust container or the dust bag.

How often should I vacuum my house?

For allergy sufferers, vacuuming the house at least twice a week is recommended.

Why is the suction power of my Dyson V8 Animal vacuum cleaner low?

It could be due to a blocked filter or dirt bin. Clean them thoroughly to restore the suction power.

How can I maximize the battery life of my Dyson V8 Animal?

To extend battery life, avoid leaving the vacuum cleaner on charge when the battery is fully charged. Unplug it from the charger once it's fully charged to prevent overcharging.

How can I clean the brush roll of my Dyson V8 Animal?

To clean the brush roll, first, remove it from the vacuum cleaner. Use a pair of scissors or a knife to carefully cut away any tangled hair or fibers. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage.

Why does my Dyson V8 Animal have a pulsating sound during operation?

The pulsating sound is typically an indication that there is a blockage in the vacuum cleaner. Check the cleaner head, wand, and hose for any obstructions and clear them if necessary.

What should I do if my Dyson V8 Animal is not charging?

If your vacuum cleaner is not charging, ensure that it is properly connected to a working power source. Check the charger, cable, and wall socket for any signs of damage. If the issue persists, contact Dyson customer support for further assistance.

Was the vacuum being used on boost mode? Dyson recommend only using it for short bursts of cleaning as it can cause unnecessary wear on the battery. It is normal for the batteries to get hot if you are using boost mode for more than a couple of minutes due to the high amount of power boost mode consumes. If you were using it on the regular mode and it was still getting more than “warm” I would contact support.

Dyson Troubleshooting (Dyson V8, V10 and V11 etc.)

Robbert Tigchelaar

At Vacuumtester.com I receive daily messages about Dyson vacuum cleaners. It often concerns Dyson problems, where people are curious what the solution is. I have written dozens of guides on solving specific Dyson problems on this website.

On this page I list the most common problems and how you can solve them – in most cases – quickly. A complete Dyson troubleshooting guide!

Various Dyson problems

Dyson vacuum cleaners come in many types and designs. When I look at the problems that I often receive in my inbox, it turns out in many cases to be the cordless Dyson vacuum cleaners. Specifically the following models: Dyson V7, Dyson V8, Dyson V10 and Dyson V11.

The problems can be divided into the following categories:

  • Notifications: a Dyson can provide notifications on the LCD screen or with lights near the battery.
  • Loss of suction power: the Dyson hardly sucks anything anymore
  • Electricity problems: the vacuum cleaner no longer charges or the battery suddenly has a very short life
  • Bad smells: the vacuum cleaner smells
  • Weird noises: suddenly makes a lot of noise
  • Visible issues: Damage or Dyson parts not fitting together properly

Top 5 Dyson problems in a row

Over the past year I've been keeping track of which Dyson problems have come up the most. View the top 10 below for an interesting overview.

  • The battery of the Dyson vacuum cleaner lasts very short
  • The vacuum cleaner battery no longer charges at all
  • The Dyson stinks of dog
  • Dyson vacuum cleaner suddenly makes a lot of noise
  • The Dyson no longer sucks properly

Have you experienced a problem with your Dyson vacuum cleaner yourself? Share your problem at the bottom of this page, so that I can continue to monitor which problems occur most often.

Dyson troubleshooting

Of course I would like to help you to solve these problems as soon as possible. As I mentioned in the introduction, I have already written a manual for all Dyson problems on Vacuumtester.com. You can quickly find the problem solution in the overview below. You can also click through to the complete manual (often with video!) for handy step-by-step plans.

For many problems I have made useful videos, where I help you step by step. Check out my YouTube channel for interesting video tutorials.

Buying Dyson replacement parts

When you have come to the conclusion that you need new Dyson parts, there are a number of factors to consider. It is very important to know which Dyson you have so that you buy parts that actually fit your vacuum cleaner. For example, a filter for the Dyson V8 is different from that of a Dyson V11.

In addition, I recommend that you buy parts from Dyson yourself. I have found that many problems with a Dyson are caused by the use of aftermarket parts. In other words: parts that are not Dyson's own. Check out a complete guide to all the Dyson parts out there here.

I have found that many Dyson problems are caused by the use of aftermarket parts.

Preventing problems with your Dyson vacuum cleaner

It is interesting to think about how you can possibly prevent or postpone problems in the future. For example, I previously did research into the Dyson vacuum battery life , where I already gave tips on how you can use your battery for longer.

Below are some interesting tips that will help you extend the life of your Dyson vacuum cleaner and parts (and thus prevent problems):

  • Clean the Dyson filters regularly
  • Replace the filters of your Dyson vacuum cleaner at least every 12 months
  • Check the vacuum cleaner regularly for blockages
  • Keep the parts clean; For example, regularly remove hair from the brushes
  • Charge the battery at 20% battery life
  • Use the Dyson vacuum as little as possible in turbo mode
  • Only buy and use parts from Dyson itself

Fortunately, the various activities above are not a chore. For example, watch the video below to see how easy it is to clean a Dyson HEPA filter.

Check your warranty period at Dyson

When you have bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner, it is strongly recommended to register it on the Dyson website. This allows you to see exactly when you bought it and what your rights are in terms of warranty. You may experience problems within your warranty period, which means you may be entitled to a replacement battery.

I hope my article has solved your Dyson problem. If not, leave a comment at the bottom of this page so I can help you.

It’s quite possible that it’s broken. This often happens with trigger buttons. I’ve written an article on how you can replace this Dyson trigger yourself.

Thanks for sharing all your experiences. I have the Dyson V11 Animal. It’s a little over 2 years old and I use it daily to keep our carpets clean with 2 cats. I clean the V11 motor head religiously (cat hair accumulates at both ends of the bar) and recently replaced the exhaust filter(OEM) A blockage does not appear to be the issue. All of a sudden the torque head’s beater bar has started to chatter/vibrate loudly. It happens intermittently, not a constant issue. Sound familiar? I’m wondering if my motor is going out?

Hi Barry, in some cases, there could also be a blockage in the vacuum wand or at the motor’s air inlet. I recommend reading this article on a Dyson air way blockage and following all the steps!

Thank you. These instructions just helped me to replace the worn out battery on our V8 Animal in 5 minutes! Now it's humming along again with 3 blue bars. Great! (Note: I was concerned I might strip the screw head but I just pressed harder while turning and the screwdriver did not slip. Then I saw that the replacement battery came with four new replacement screws. So, it's all good.)

I have a stripped screw that won't extract. I have already drilled the hole ho so now no screwdriver will work. Any suggestions?
