25 Teacher Cover Letters Examples To Help You Get Hired

Your guide to a killer cover letter that will get you that interview.

Teacher Cover Letter Examples

Whether you are sending out resumes hoping to land your first teaching job or looking to shift to a new school or district, one fact remains the same: All the best credentials, experience, and passion will go unnoticed without a strong cover letter. The main rule? Sell yourself the way a publicist would. Cover letters aren’t a time for modesty. They’re a time to highlight your accomplishments and make your passion for teaching known. Below you’ll find our tips for creating the best cover letter possible and our top teacher cover letter and CV examples.

3 top tips for crafting a teacher CV or cover letter:

Keep it short and sweet..

You’ve only got about 30 seconds to capture a hiring director’s attention, so start with what we call “the elevator pitch.” Imagine you have the time between the elevators closing on one floor and opening again on another floor to sell yourself. Instead of rehashing everything on your resume, use the space to craft a paragraph or two that will convince them you are a standout candidate and are worth moving on to the next step.

Emphasize why you’re a great match.

Read the job description and find the overlap between the skills you bring to the table and the skills they need. If the job description calls for certain qualities or uses specific language, repeat them in your cover letter! The ultimate goal for your cover letter is to say, “You’ve got a problem? I’m the ideal person to solve it.” Be professional and use concrete examples.

Individualize!

Tailor each and every cover letter to fit the specific school, district, and job for which you’re applying. Research the school and its culture. That way, you can address their expectations and also use specific examples of achievements in your history to show why you’re the right candidate for the position.

Personalizing your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter salutation

Always aim to address the recruiter from the get-go of your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter.

  • the friendly tone (e.g. "Dear Paul" or "Dear Caroline") - if you've previously chatted up with them on social media and are on a first-name basis;
  • the formal tone (e.g. "Dear Ms. Gibbs" or "Dear Ms. Swift") - if you haven't had any previous conversation with them and have discovered the name of the recruiter on LinkedIn or the company website;
  • the polite tone (e.g. "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear HR Team") - at all costs aim to avoid the "To whom it may concern" or "Dear Sir/Madam", as both greetings are very old-school and vague.

List of salutations you can use

  • Dear Hiring Manager,
  • Dear [School Name] Selection Committee,
  • Dear [Specific Department] Team,
  • Dear [Principal's Name],
  • Dear [Superintendent's Name],
  • Dear [Director of Human Resources],

First introductions in your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter

Within your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter introduction , genuinely state what you like about the organization.

Research the latest company projects, honorary awards, company updates, etc.

Write up to two sentences to let recruiters know what impresses you about the company,

This would help you to set a good tone for the rest of the communication.

Storytelling in the middle (or body) of your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter

You've got your whole resume sorted, detailing your achievements and skills. What else can you write in your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter ?

For starters, take the time to re-assess the job requirements and re-discover the most crucial skills and requirements (or keywords).

After making a list of these important keywords, look back on your experience to select just one of your past accomplishments.

Choose the achievement that is the most noteworthy, relevant to the role, and matches the required skills.

Use the next between three and six paragraphs to narrate how:

  • you've grown your skill set, thanks to your achievement;
  • you'd use the know-how you've gained in your new role;
  • your accomplishment could help your potential employers grow.

Remember that recruiters don't need a retelling of your whole resume, but want to find out what makes you, you.

Closing remarks to end your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter

Of course, you'll have to show gratitude to the recruiters, who have assessed your profile at the end of your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter .

A "Thank you for the consideration" would work wonders, instead of the standard "Sincerely yours".

Do you want to make an even better impression?

Close off your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter by promising how you see yourself excelling in the role and the positive impact you'd bring about.

A sentence that encourages some further action on the recruiter's end could also be a good way to close off the communication (e.g. provide your availability for an interview).

The zero experience kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter: shifting the focus to your unique value

Don't worry if you have no conventional professional experience . Within your whole experience, there's plenty more you can write about in your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter.

Take, for example, your biggest achievement or award - dedicate your cover letter body to describe it and the job-relevant skills you've learned.

Your professional ambitions could also take center stage. Describe what you plan on achieving in the next five to ten years and the efforts you're making towards your dreams.

Key takeaways

Creating your kindergarten teacher assistant cover letter should be a personalized experience for the role and the recruiter, where you:

  • Format your cover letter using the same ATS-friendly font (e.g. Railway) as you did for your resume;
  • Greet recruiters, using their name, and follow up with two sentences to introduce yourself, your interest in the role, and to stand out;
  • Map out one key success from your career (or life) that has taught you job-crucial skills;
  • Substitute your lack of experience with an achievement from your internships, degrees, or volunteering gigs;
  • End with a promise for your potential or your availability for an interview.

The best way to start a Preschool Teacher cover letter is by grabbing the reader's attention with a strong opening line that highlights your passion for early childhood education. Mention your relevant experience and how it aligns with the job description. For example, "As a dedicated and creative preschool teacher with over 5 years of experience in fostering child-centered curriculum and student creativity, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your team." This not only shows your enthusiasm but also communicates your qualifications right from the start. Tailoring your introduction to the specific role and school will also demonstrate your interest and commitment.

Preschool Teachers should end a cover letter by summarizing their interest in the position and their qualifications. This can be done by restating key points made in the body of the letter, such as their passion for early childhood education, their experience in the field, or specific skills they possess. They should also express enthusiasm for the opportunity to interview and contribute to the school or organization. For example: "I am eager to bring my creativity, patience, and experience in early childhood education to your esteemed preschool. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss how I can contribute to your team." Remember to end with a professional closing like 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards,' followed by your full name. It's also important to include your contact information, so it's easy for the hiring manager to reach you.

A Preschool Teacher's cover letter should ideally be about one page in length. This is because hiring managers often have to go through numerous applications and a concise, one-page cover letter ensures that your key points are not overlooked. In this one page, you should introduce yourself, explain why you're interested in the position, highlight your relevant skills and experiences, and conclude with your contact information and a thank you note. Remember, the goal is to provide a snapshot of who you are as an educator and how you can contribute to the preschool, not to detail every aspect of your career history.

Writing a cover letter with no experience as a Preschool Teacher can seem challenging, but it's important to remember that everyone starts somewhere. Here are some steps to guide you: 1. Start with a Professional Greeting: Address the hiring manager by name if possible. If not, use a formal greeting such as "Dear Hiring Manager." 2. Introduction: Begin your cover letter by introducing yourself and expressing your enthusiasm for the position. Mention where you found the job posting and why you're interested in the role. 3. Highlight Relevant Skills: Even if you don't have direct experience as a Preschool Teacher, you likely have other skills or experiences that are relevant. Perhaps you've babysat or worked as a camp counselor. Maybe you've volunteered at a local community center or have experience in another educational setting. Highlight these experiences and explain how they have prepared you for a role as a Preschool Teacher. 4. Showcase Your Education: If you're a recent graduate, be sure to mention any relevant coursework or degrees. This could include a degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field. If you've taken any courses in child psychology, child-centered learning, or creative learning, be sure to mention them. 5. Show Passion for Teaching: Preschool teaching is as much about passion as it is about skills. Show your love for teaching and working with children. You can do this by sharing a brief story or anecdote that demonstrates your passion. 6. Close Professionally: Thank the hiring manager for their time and express your interest in the opportunity to interview for the position. Provide your contact information and let them know you're available to provide further information if needed. 7. Proofread: Make sure to proofread your cover letter for any spelling or grammar errors. A well-written, error-free cover letter shows your attention to detail and professionalism. Remember, the goal of a cover letter is to show the hiring manager why you would be a good fit for the position. Even without direct experience, you can still demonstrate that you have the skills, passion, and dedication needed to be a successful Preschool Teacher.

Director of Rising Stars Academy

1898 S Clyde Morris Blvd #610

Daytona Beach, FL 32119

It was sad and heartbreaking for me to leave my previous position at the Bright Horizons preschool, where I left a group of 52 wonderful angels who were under my direct care. Fortunately, I found the opening for a similar position in Rising Stars Academy online, and was instantly enamored in your emphasis on providing an enriched educational experience and developing family bonds. I think I’d fit in great and could help create an educational foundation for your pupils.

In Bright Horizons, I came up with the idea of doing special weekly themes to energize the kids and stimulate their imagination. Overall, it was a massive success, with over 120 themes in total being created. I got several commendations, from both the parents and even 3 personal commendations from the director.

By helping to foster lifelong relationships with our little community, Bright Horizons was eventually nominated at the Kids for Community 53rd Family Picnic as the most friendly, inclusive, and character-building preschool in the district. It’s an achievement I am most proud of, as I personally put in a lot of work to make everyone feel welcome in our group.

Rae, I’m absolutely certain I could recreate that (and more!) as a preschool teacher for the Rising Star Academy. Could we schedule a meeting to talk some more about my plan to raise the average test scores of your students?

Delightful, right? Every parent would love a preschool teacher like that.

Preschool Teacher Cover Letter Template

This is how you can write an effective preschool teacher cover letter:

1. Fix Your Preschool Teacher Cover Letter Formatting

To be trusted with caring about the youngest, you can’t submit your cover letter on a coffee-stained piece of paper you played a few tic-tac-toe games with one of your little ones.

That just won’t cut it.

You need to  format your cover letter properly to get anywhere:

  • Firstly, you need proper  cover letter margins : 1” of space on every side.
  • Set the line spacing to 1 or 1.15. Double between paragraphs.
  • Speaking of paragraphs, plan enough space for 3 or 4. Don’t go over one page—that’s the only recommended length for a cover letter .
  • Last but not least, your cover letter font choice matters a lot. Don’t pick anything that looks like child-like scribbles—go with a tried-and-tested font like Calibri or Arial.

2. Prepare an Elegant Header for Your Preschool Teacher Cover Letter

When you start out your cover letter, keep one thing in mind: consistency.

In general, your  cover letter header should mirror the design of your resume’s header. Nice matching patterns are pleasant to look at, anyway.

Other than that, this is how to write the rest of your  cover letter address :

  • Start with your  contact information at the top. E-mail address, phone number and name are staples, but LinkedIn and other professional websites are a plus as well. Skip this if your contact info is already in the header, as mentioned above.
  • Skip a line, write down the date and place of writing.
  • Leave another blank line, then include the contact info of the kindergarten and the name of the person who’s most likely to read your letter.

On that last note, if you don’t know the name of the person, finding out can be a little like a game of cat and mouse. However, the easiest route is usually best: just call in directly.

3. Utilize the Opening of Your Preschool Teacher Cover Letter Properly

Between 2018 and 2019, the number of preschool and kindergarten teachers almost doubled at 45.7% growth .

That’s an astronomically, incomprehensible number of candidates you have to go up against.

That means, your cover letter should swing for the fences from the very beginning. After a polite cover letter greeting ( Dear + the recruiter’s name), start with a strong opening paragraph:

  • The first sentence of your cover letter should express your excitement, name the job you’re applying for, and mention your years of experience.
  • Then, immediately prove your value by briefly describing a couple of your proudest professional achievements . Use numbers to really make them stand out!

4. Prove You’re the Asset Their Pupils Need

Believe it or not, recruiters are much like children.

All you need to win them over is a bit of candy.

In this case, the candy we’re talking about is achievements and career wins!

Utilize the middle of your cover letter to keep showing your achievements from previous jobs. Using numbers is super crucial here. “Entertained children” sounds really drab in comparison to “Provided entertainment to over 45 children daily while maintaining 100% accident-free record.”

To top that, try to tailor the content of your preschool cover letter to what the job posting said. By showing you have the skills to fix the issues that they need fixed, you pull ahead of your competition as the clear #1 choice.

5. Demonstrate Why Teaching at This Preschool Would Be the Best

Do you know why you’re applying for this position in particular?

In early childhood education, “because you’re hiring” isn’t too convincing.

This job requires special amounts of patience, empathy, and love for kids. Making them open up, broadening their horizons, and encouraging to ask questions are  crucial qualities of a good preschool teacher.

Especially since they get so attached, you really need to convey the message that you’re going to stay for a long time. Make that your top priority.

Try to find out what makes this facility different from others, something that really speaks to you. Mention that in your preschool cover letter—this will show you’re in tune with their values and goals.

6. End Your Cover Letter for Preschool Teachers on a Strong Note

One thing to avoid is a boring close-out. You want to do the complete opposite, and write a cover letter ending that will leave jaws agape.

How exactly do you do that?

By offering them something they clearly want and need to see:

  • Reiterate that you are a great fit to hire. Tell them why you think so, and how excited you are to work with their pupils.
  • Make a promise to deliver on something exciting for the school, like “increase test scores by an average of 25%.”

7. Sign Off and Name the Preschool Teacher Cover Letter

We’re just about heading for nap time, but first, one more thing to sort out: signing off.

Sometimes, it can be a difference-maker. And some recruiters really don’t leave any stone unturned.

  • Use a polite statement like “Sincerely” to end your letter.
  • Sign with your full name, repeat with your LinkedIn or e-mail and phone number.
  • If you have a digital signature and/or were asked to include any cover letter enclosures , now would be the time.
  • Save the document as a PDF and give your cover letter file a good name . It’s all about standing out.

Pro Tip: Don’t be shy and definitely send a  follow-up on your job application about a week or so after your original e-mail.

Dear Ms. Nelson,

The looks of amazement and delight that I see on young children’s faces when they are exploring something new has kept me working in childcare for the last five years. Now that I have completed my education to be a preschool teacher, I am interested in your open teaching position at Great Start Preschool.

My childcare experience in both in home and center-based daycare establishments has given me a broad background in the developmental levels of toddlers and preschoolers. I also have practice in providing enriched experiences such as sensory tables for young children to explore safely.

I have the ability to communicate and engage with children with special needs, especially children who use sign language. As a fluent speaker of American Sign Language, I can also incorporate signing into the preschool curriculum.

My aim is to put my experience to work in a position that fits my training. Thank you for your consideration for your teaching position, and I look forward to discussing this with you further.

In addition to my academic background and professional experience, I hold certifications in Massachusetts’ Certified Early Childhood Education and CPR and first aid. My proficiency in classroom management, curriculum development, parent communication and creative lesson planning further positions me as a strong candidate for this role.

I am excited about the opportunity to bring my passion for early childhood education to Creative Corner School and contribute to the growth and development of its students. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how my skills and experiences align with the needs of your esteemed institution.

Sincerely, Anne Johnson

Your cover letter is an essential part of showing why you’re the perfect person for the preschool teacher role. It’s your chance to connect personally with potential employers and give them a quick insight into your passion and qualifications for nurturing young minds.

Making sure your cover letter looks professional and is easy to read is key to making a great first impression. Here’s how to get your cover letter formatting right, so nothing distracts from the wonderful things you have to say:

  • Font style and size: Go for clear, professional fonts like Arial or Times New Roman, keeping the font size between 10 to 12 points. This ensures your letter is both tidy and easy on the eyes.
  • Spacing: Use 1.15 to 1.5 spacing within your paragraphs and put an extra space between paragraphs. This makes your letter more comfortable to read.
  • Margins and alignment: Stick to 1-inch margins all around and align your text to the left. This setup gives your letter a clean and organized look.

Choose a preschool teacher cover letter template

Cover letter contrast image

When selecting a cover letter template , you want something that reflects the warmth and professionalism of a preschool teacher. Look for designs that are neat and inviting, echoing the friendly and nurturing nature of your role.

If your job involves creating a welcoming, engaging environment for kids, choosing a template with some flair — like a tasteful splash of color — can add a personal touch to your application, showing a bit of your creative side.

Matching your cover letter and resume templates can also help your application look polished and coordinated, emphasizing your attention to detail and making a strong, cohesive statement about your readiness for the preschool teacher position.

Did you know that 83% of hiring managers consider cover letters important? Yet, many job seekers overlook writing one. Creating a cover letter can greatly enhance your chances of getting noticed — and it’s easier than you might think.

Let’s simplify the process so you can put together an engaging preschool teacher cover letter without any fuss.

Understand the preschool teacher job description

Tailoring your cover letter for each preschool teaching position is crucial. A personalized letter demonstrates your genuine interest and allows you to showcase how your experience and skills are a perfect match for what the school is seeking. A generic letter may seem like you’re not particularly enthusiastic about the job.

Also, many schools use applicant tracking systems (ATS) to screen candidates. These systems scan for keywords related to the job description.

To ensure your preschool teacher cover letter passes ATS , include keywords from the job posting. This strategy not only makes your letter more effective but also increases your chances of getting through the ATS screening.

Include your contact information

Though it might seem obvious, adding your contact details at the top of your cover letter is essential. The main goal of your cover letter is to prompt the hiring manager to contact you, after all.

Make it easy for potential employers to reach you by placing your contact information prominently in the header. And, double-check to ensure these details are accurate and match those on your resume.

Your contact info should include:

  • City and state
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Links to relevant professional online profiles (if applicable)

Aim for a professional tone. If your email address sounds too casual or playful, it might be a good idea to create a new one based on your name or initials.

Address the hiring manager personally

A personalized greeting in your cover letter demonstrates your effort and commitment. Try to find the hiring manager’s name in the job listing or on the school’s website.

If you can’t find their name, addressing it to the school’s hiring team or the early childhood education department is a fine alternative.

Start strong in your opening paragraph

Making a great first impression is important, no matter where you are in your teaching career. Your introduction should briefly present who you are, mentioning your qualifications and your enthusiasm for the preschool teacher position.

For those new to teaching:

I’m thrilled to apply for the preschool teacher position at [School Name], as advertised. With my recent graduation from [Degree or Program] in [Relevant Field], I’m eager to bring my passion for early childhood education and my commitment to creating a nurturing learning environment to [School Name]. I look forward to the chance to start my teaching journey and make a positive difference in the lives of young children.

For experienced preschool teachers:

I am excited to apply for the preschool teacher role at [School Name], as advertised. With [Number] years of experience in early childhood education and a proven record of creating engaging and educational classroom environments, I am well-equipped to contribute to [School Name]’s success. My background aligns perfectly with the needs of your school, and I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to share my love for learning with your students.

Keep your introduction concise, focusing on your qualifications and excitement for the role in just a few sentences. Passion is key in early childhood education, so this is the perfect moment to convey your enthusiasm for teaching young learners.

Explain why you’re the best candidate for the job

In the body of your preschool teacher cover letter, take the opportunity to showcase your skills and explain why you’re the perfect match for the role.

  • Share your teaching and classroom management experience: Talk about your experiences in educating young minds, focusing on achievements or innovative teaching methods you’ve used. Give specific examples of how your teaching style has positively impacted your students.
  • Highlight transferable skills: Alongside your teaching experience, emphasize transferable skills such as effective communication, caretaking and adaptability. Your cover letter should present a mix of hard and soft skills , showcasing you as a well-rounded educator.
  • Mention unique qualifications or experiences: Whether it’s special awards you’ve received, collaborative projects you’ve led or unique educational approaches you’ve introduced, share how these experiences have prepared you for success as a preschool teacher.

Example body paragraphs for a preschool teacher cover letter:

In my role as a preschool teacher, I’ve adopted a nurturing, creative approach to education, significantly contributing to [Examples of Positive Outcomes]. At [Previous School], I designed and led [Specific Activity or Project], which resulted in [Quantifiable Result or Impact]. My commitment to engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences has consistently encouraged growth and curiosity among my students, and I am dedicated to creating environments that foster educational exploration.

I have initiated projects that achieved [Specific Achievements], highlighting my ability to inspire learning and reach educational goals. My enthusiasm for early childhood education drives me to continually explore new methods and strategies to enhance the learning experience and satisfaction of both children and their families at [Your School].

Finish your cover letter on a high note

Conclude your cover letter by reiterating your excitement for the position and the unique value you bring to it. Aim to leave a lasting impression without repeating content from earlier in the letter. Invite future discussions, but avoid sounding pushy.

Example closing paragraph for a preschool teacher cover letter:

I am excited about the opportunity to bring my expertise in early childhood education to [Your School] to contribute to its mission and enrich its community.
